Assignment 4 - Survival Skills - Task #5: Documents/Identifying Information: Write about someone trying to prove themselves in some way.
A Different Type of Matchmaking
Regulus is sick of his brother and his friend pining over each other. So when Remus sets out to ask another guy over to spend his heat with him, Regulus changes the names around in Remus' phone so that Sirius gets the text instead. Plus, it means Regulus can get some alone-time with James. Win-win.
Omegaverse. Mpreg mentioned but not featured.
Remus is so nervous. He's never sent a text like this before. He's never asked this from anyone before, because it's a big thing to do. It's important, it matters. Asking someone to basically move in with him for around five days and take care of him in every way.
Remus likes taking care of himself, but it gets tiring taking care of himself. But he's become good friends with Regulus in the last year since he sought Sirius out, and Sirius - in hopes to keep Regulus away from James - asked Remus if Regulus can have his spare room since Peter had moved back home and Remus had been looking for a roommate.
They lived in the same block and Remus supposed that Sirius wanted his brother as close as possible in order to keep an eye on him. Convenient location was also the reason why Regulus texted James to 'Fuck me six ways from Sunday' and the pair started a heat-based relationship though it was immediately clear that they were smitten with each other.
But Remus is tired of doing this alone. He's never shared this with anyone before. He's had sex - two relationships that went further. Well - the second guy ghosted him after they finally had sex, not that he's told Sirius or James that because they might actually kill his ex for that treatment. He's told Regulus though. He feels like when it comes to these things, Regulus understands a little better. Peter doesn't feel the same desire for Omegas that Alphas do, due to his Beta status. James and Sirius would focus more on destroying the guy rather than actually offering the emotional support Remus needs.
He stares at the message for ages, trying to fix it to sound casual. The first draft was quite long, but Remus is sure he's got it perfect.
Still, he waits for Regulus to get back from the shop.
oxo
"Is that okay?" Remus asks, handing the phone over. "I was thinking of inviting Simon over and…" he trails off. The content of the message explains everything.
'I know this is out of the blue, but I go into heat tomorrow and I was wondering if you wanted to spend it with me? I know what you're going to say - that having sex for the first time whilst I'm in heat would be weird - but… I'm free tonight if you're amicable? If so, come over anytime. Remus x'
Regulus reads it out loud. "Simon?" he asks, raising his eyebrows. "You're inviting Simon over?"
Remus nods. "I'm tired of being alone." Though he doesn't say it, he wants to spend it with someone else. He's sure Regulus has worked it out. The same way that everyone else has worked it out. But if Sirius felt the same, Sirius would have said something. It's apparently very obvious how Remus feels.
"You sure about Simon? Do you feel like that could be a real thing?" Regulus checks.
Remus hesitates. "I think he's nice, and he likes me," he admits.
"Is that enough?"
"Couldn't it be?" Remus asks, leaning back. Silence follows and he waits for Regulus to say something. "Maybe it'll turn into something more."
Finally Regulus sighs. "Send the message," he says.
"You think?" Remus checks.
Regulus nods. "Yeah. Send Simon the message. Trust me. You'll thank me one day."
Remus nods. He skims over the words once more before scrolling. He sees Sirius' name next to Simon's and that is cause for a moment of hesitation.
Regulus comes and sits next to him, leaning over. "Simon," he says. "Do it. In a few hours he'll have you bent over the back of this sofa. Though Simon isn't overly adventurous, I imagine. I bet he'd prefer it—"
"Let's not speculate," Remus squeaks, quickly clicking the name.
Regulus grabs the phone. "Just making sure it sends," he mutters. Remus covers his face with his hands, hiding his red cheeks, and doesn't move them until Regulus stands, placing the phone on the table. "So, you're definitely getting shagged tonight. Why don't you order a pizza? I have a bottle of Asti in the fridge - make a night of it?"
"That sounds like a plan," Remus agrees. Food and alcohol will take some of the tension away. "I'll order now." He heads over to his phone.
"It's on me," Regulus insists. "Go get the wine ready and why not wear that cardigan on the back of your door - the patterned one?"
"Isn't that a bit dorky for Simon? He's not a massive fan of the cardigans," Remus mutters, uncertainly.
"You've just invited the bloke over to shag you for six days. I'm sure cardigans aren't the thing on his mind," Regmus says with a smirk. "What pizza do you want?"
"He likes hawaiian," Remus mutters, uncertainly.
"And meat for you. Got it. Now, go get that wine, open the bottle and pour into our best glasses. I'll get the food ordered and get a bunch of sides."
"You're the best," Remus tells him before leaving the room. Regulus grins after him. Remus will soon find out just what a great friend Regulus is.
The pair needed a little push because they are both annoyingly oblivious to each other's feelings, so Regulus did what any good friend and good brother would do. He switched Sirius' name and Simon's name before Remus sent the message, and then switched them back.
All he has to do is keep Remus away from the phone just in case Remus tries to cancel out of panic, and everything will work itself out.
oxo
He gets a text from James. 'Sirius is about to come up. He's frantic and I don't understand what he's babbling about. Come and comfort me? ;)
Regulus grins. "Well, date night with James," he says, as Remus pours the champagne. "You might want to fix the cardigan buttons. Maybe some music to set the mood in here."
Remus rushes to get everything ready and Regulus says his goodbyes and heads to the staircase. He goes down a floor and knocks on James' door.
Sirius throws the door open. "Does my hair look alright?" he demands. "Should I go in my pyjamas or are they not sexy enough?"
"Remus loves the leather jacket, and I doubt you'll be wearing much of anything," Regulus points out. "But he's really nervous - he's never invited anyone to share his heat with him before. Just… you know what Remus is like, make it clear you want him."
"Yeah." Sirius rushes past. "See you in a few days. Don't have sex with James."
"I promise not to shag him in your room," Regulus calls after Sirius. He's grinning as he walks into Sirius' flat.
"I know that look. What did you do?"
Regulus' grin widens. "Does it matter? You get six days with me without Sirius checking up on us and trying to tell us to keep your bedroom door open. So let's lock the door from the inside and make the most of the quiet!"
oxo
It's his dream come true. Sirius has been in love with Remus for years. A crush back in school that just developed. He had been convinced when he was sixteen that Remus would be an Beta and was already preparing himself to have to fight people to accept the relationship. When he didn't present otherwise, they all made the assumption that Beta. After all, Alphas presented early and male Omegas were so very rare.
But an Omega. Remus presented not long before he turned eighteen, and the moment Sirius found out, he was already picturing their children (though he'd willingly stay home and look after the kids, because he wouldn't expect Remus to give up his dreams). Even if Remus doesn't want children, Sirius would give that dream up, because Remus is his dream.
But he's been taking this slowly. He's held back his jealousy when Remus has dated someone. He's been nice and kind to the guys, who just hurt him. He's laid all the groundwork to make their relationship stronger, so that when Remus finally turns his affections Sirius' way, Remus will not have a single doubt.
He's shown Remus that he's always going to be there (and making up for the incident that they don't speak of anymore). And though he didn't expect the start of their romantic relationship to be them having sex, he's also not going to consider turning it down.
Sharing a heat is a big deal. He can use this opportunity to lavish Remus with all the love he has to offer. He can prove to Remus that he's the perfect mate. Show Remus that he'll want for nothing. That he'll be so well looked after that no one else could ever be that attentive. He'll be gentle and kind and everything Remus deserves.
And this is more than sharing a heat. It's a romantic night before the heat starts. So the moment he gets the message, he's off the sofa, he's rushing to get changed into something Remus will find appealing and he's scrubbing his teeth in the bathroom because there's no way he's going there with bad breath. He tosses a jumble of clothes, his phone charge and a few toiletries into a rucksack and he barely reacts to Regulus who is outright admitting to shagging James because he doesn't want to stop for that conversation.
What if Remus has second thoughts and tells him not to come? What if Remus changes his mind? What if…
He gets downstairs as fast as possible and, sure that he looks as good as he could manage in the limited time he gave himself, he knocks on the door.
oxo
Remus wasn't expecting Sirius, but he moves aside anyway. Sirius drops his bag down just inside of the door and fixes Remus with a smile that makes his knees weak.
"Sirius," he murmurs.
"So, tonight is going to be fun," Sirius says. "You me, hanging out… spending time together. Alone."
Remus nods, trying to remember if he made plans with Sirius. He never usually forgets these things.
"And just to take out the tension," Sirius adds, reaching for Remus' hand and pulling him closer, "I'm going to kiss you."
His fingers slide around the back of Remus' neck, causing Remus to shiver. What is happening? Why is this happening? Not that he's going to waste time by asking those questions. Sirius wants to kiss him and he savours the moment as Sirius' lips move until they're so close to his. He can feel the warm breath on his lips. "Remus," Sirius whispers.
"Sirius," Remus murmurs because what are words anymore? Sirius just needs to kiss him already.
"I've been thinking for a long time - the longest time about doing this," Sirius admits. Remus' hands are clutching the front of his t-shirt, holding him close. "This okay?"
"Fuck yeah."
Sirius closes the distance, and Remus feels the light stubble against his jaw as Sirius' warm lips are on his, moving so slowly. Remus is pretty sure his legs are shaking, and he takes a step back, his hands still clenched around the material.
His back hits the wall and he drags Sirius back over. Sirius complies, his other hand sliding around Remus' waist as he presses Remus to the wall, lips seeking his again.
Remus has never been kissed like this. So soft and tender, so full of emotion, so… so desired like this.
He never wants this to stop. He just wants Sirius to fuck him up against this wall, though he knows that he's starting to feel his oncoming heat and is aware that it's not really approproate to ask this. It's just a kiss, even if it's the best kiss of his life.
He regretfully pulls away.
"I should have done that a long time ago," Sirius says. He quickly twists his head at the sound of a knock on the still-open door behind them. "You ordered pizza?"
Remus nods, somewhat dazed and Sirius is pulling out his wallet to tip the guy. He takes the pizza and walks into the house and Remus closes the door, leaning against it for a moment as he tries to make sense of the last few minutes.
He follows Sirius in and as he spots the two champagne glasses and the food and the lit candles, he remembers his plan. Simon is coming over, and Sirius is here. They must have made plans before but Remus forgot somehow. There's a first time for everything.
"I'm so glad I came up," Sirius says, as he opens all the boxes. "I'll pay half for the pizza. So… should we put on a film whilst we eat? Something romantic? Something that'll get us hot? If… if you're…" he hesitates. "Remus, I have every intention of getting you naked tonight. Just throwing that out there so we're on the same page. I know… you want this too. But can you just please… just… can you say you want this so I'm sure we're…" he trails off, realising he's repeating himself.
Remus takes a moment. Sirius wants him.
"I'd like that very much," Remus admits, his whole body feeling hot. He feels like he's having a panic attack but without the panic rising inside of him, though his skin feels hot and he feels overly aware of everything that is happening. There's a sharpness to everything.
"And I'll stay the night and… tomorrow you start your heat," Sirius pushes. "And I'll be here. Do you want that?"
"You want to help me through my heat?" Remus asks, leaning against the door-frame. He's watching Sirius carefully for even the slightest hint of regret or indecision.
"I will tend to your every wish," Sirius insists, his voice lowering. "You ask, you get."
A shiver runs through Remus at this.
"I consent," he murmurs. "So… where do we start?"
"With the pizza and the cheap booze," Sirius says, amused at Remus' reaction. "We can watch a film, snog a bit - until we can't keep our hands off each other anymore. Then we can move this to the bedroom. See what happens."
"Where you fuck me," Remus adds.
Sirius raises an eyebrow. "Unless you're willing to try something new."
"Like what?"
"I'm going to get a good five days with you. How about tonight, you fuck me."
Remus is dreaming. Or he's in a coma. Or perhaps he's dead and this is what his own heaven is.
"I… I could do that," he offers. What is happening? What did he do right and how can he keep doing it?
"Let's eat," Sirius insists, looking relieved at Remus' reaction as he reaches for pizza. "We want to keep our strength up, don't we?"
oxo
They make it through an hour of the film. The first thirty minutes is eating, then they move to the sofa, drinks in hand and Sirius' other hand caresses Remus' leg and he watches his friend - lover, he likes that word more - get more and more turned on, so worked up.
He's actually surprised when Remus grabs his glass and sets it down, before turning to him.
"I've never… been on top before. Are you sure you're comfortable with this?"
"I've never been fucked," Sirius responds. "But I've always wanted you to do this."
"Me?" Remus asks.
"When we were younger, we were convinced you were going to be a Beta - do you remember?" Sirius asks.
Remus nods.
"Well, I always felt like this for you, Remus. I thought if you were a Beta, and we got together… well, I liked the idea of you taking charge. When you did present as an Omega, I still felt the same. I like that you've not done this before, it means it's a first for both of us, and I wouldn't trust anyone else to be first."
Remus tries to process this. He can't. He searches around for a safe topic. "For the heat, I have everything in order. Spare sheets in the cupboard. Microwave meals… it should be easy, so if at any point you change your mind…"
"Remus, I'll be here for this heat - and… and for every heat and… well, if you'd like, in between the heats too."
"Like a boyfriend?"
"Yeah. If you'd like? But we can talk about that after the heat, okay?"
Remus nods. "Let me blow out the candles and lock up and I'll be right with you."
Sirius smiles. "I can't wait."
oxo
As the heat comes to an end, Sirius is shattered. He refused to allow Remus to touch a single one of those awful microwave meals, choosing to cook fresh meals himself. He's thrown so many things into the washing machine because he doesn't want Remus to be left with loads of stuff when his heat is over.
He makes sure Remus takes something each morning to prevent pregnancy. As much as Sirius would love to find out Remus is carrying his child, he's not going to take advantage of Remus' heat and forgetful nature and trick Remus. He wouldn't do that to Remus.
If it happens… Well, that's down to fate or careful planning. Sirius doesn't really have much time to think about that though. He's tended to Remus' every single demand in bed. He's made sure Remus has everything he needs. He's fallen asleep every night with Remus' arms around him.
They take a day to recover and spend most of it in bed, with Remus more than happy to take the lead once more. They order takeaway for dinner and curl up on the sofa with one of Remus' many blankets - a thick, onyx coloured one that is soft against their bare skin - and just kiss and hold each other and feed each other chocolates and just let the happiness wash over them both.
oxo
They're in James' and Sirius' place when it happens. Remus hasn't even thought about Simon since Sirius showed up at the flat, and Sirius is so happy, that he's not even commenting about Regulus being cuddled up against James on the sofa.
"You sending me that text was the best thing to ever happen," Sirius says, his fingers dancing over the back of Remus' neck. "Who'd have thought that my Remus Lupin of all people would have sent me a booty-call? Such unusual behaviour, but I love it. I love..." he trails off. "I love this."
"What text?" Remus asks, frowning. "I never sent you a text."
Sirius' hand stops and Sirius frowns slightly, staring at him. "Yeah. You sent one the other day, asking for me to help you through your heat. You… you did."
Remus pulls his phone out and opens his texts. Right there, it's clear that the message was sent to Sirius - which makes no sense because he checked the name twice before sending it to Simon. "Oh," he whispers. That's why Sirius was so forward. That's why Sirius kissed him.
Sirius' eyes are on him as he puts his phone down on the chair next to him. His hand moves away. "You didn't intend for me to get that, did you?" Sirius asks. The hurt is evident in his voice. "Did you write it and then not plan to send it or… or was that meant for someone else?"
Remus closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. This is it - this is the end of something so perfect. He turns, meeting Sirius' gaze.
"It was meant for someone else," he admits. "But only because I never knew you felt like this about me."
Sirius is quiet for a long moment, but Remus can see that he's holding back his emotions. Everything is starting to disappear from his face, and there's a blank mask replacing it all. This is the end of them. He's scared, because all he wants is to be with Sirius.
"Sirius, I changed Simon's name to your name in Remus' phone so he'd send you that message," Regulus says, also seeing what's happening.
Remus will deal with Regulus later. "Sirius, I'm glad you're the one to get the message. I chose Simon because he was nice and liked me and I thought it'd be enough. But… but had I known you felt anything more than friendship, I'd have sent that message to you months ago. I only chose Simon over you because I never realised you were one of my choices. Now I know… now I know how you feel, I'll never choose anyone over you because there's no-one I want more."
"What about Simon?" Sirius asks softly, his voice unable to hide the hurt he feels.
"He doesn't compare," Remus tells him. "When you turned up at the door and it all started happening - it was a dream come true. I… I'm glad your brother was an arsehole who tricked us, because we're together. Please don't be mad."
"Why would I be mad?" Sirius laughs, though it's a little shaky.
"Because… because if it had been you sending the text, I'd be really hurt and upset right now, thinking that you didn't really want me, and I'd probably assume you were settling for me," Remus murmurs. "And I'm scared that this is how you feel. Sirius, let me prove I'm sorry."
"Sirius, I know you like to sulk, but do you really want to do this?" James snaps, suddenly. "I've spent years hearing from both of you about your feelings for each other. You're together. You're happy. You're probably going to move in together by the end of the fucking day. So get over this, Sirius. Because if you keep this up, you're going to ruin this relationship and then Remus probably will end up with Simon."
"Over my dead body," Sirius snarls.
"He's right," Remus says. "Not about Simon, but about other stuff. I've felt things for you since before I presented. We're happy. I was actually thinking about clearing space for your belongings so you'd be comfortable during my next heat. Is it stupid that I'm already planning a future here? Should I stop planning that, Sirius?"
"A future? What kind of future?" Sirius mutters.
Remus sighs. "I should be going." He stands up.
"Why?" James asks, looking between them with concern.
"I don't want to get ahead of myself," Remus says softly. "But I think we need to take time to think about this." He turns to Sirius. "I think you're upset, and that's understandable. But I also know you can lash out and say hurtful things when in this mood. I don't want anything to upset this relationship - especially so early on when neither of us knows… knows where this is going. So I'm going back to my flat. I'm there if you want to talk about this, and I'll keep apologising if that's what you want too, but I don't want this to end and I don't want us to fight."
He quickly leaves and Sirius stares at the other two. "Why Simon?" he asks them.
James sighs. "Maybe because Simon doesn't sulk and whine like this?" he snaps. "Jealousy is ugly on you, that's why Remus left. I love you both, Sirius, but this is ridiculous. He was going to text Simon because you didn't admit your feelings, that's on you, not Remus. When you did admit how you felt, what happened? He chose you. He chose you over Simon and you can't see that he's mad about you."
"I was there. He sees Simon as the safe option," Regulus adds. "Maybe stop sulking over this and show him that you're the better option because you're doing a terrible job at it."
"You even said when you were leaving that you were going to prove that you're the perfect mate. Great going," James continues. "Because the perfect mate would be going down there to check on his upset partner."
Sirius stands and hesitates, looking between the doorway to his room and the front door. Finally he lets out a tired sigh and leaves the flat in search of Remus.
"You were tough on him," Regulus says.
"Sometimes you gotta be tough with Sirius. I don't want him to lose Remus because he's sulky and insecure. I want them to be happy."
"Oh, I was just saying I like tough James. You should try it out in the bedroom sometimes."
"Oi, I'm always like that in the bedroom."
"Potter. Get in the bedroom now and boss me around."
"Oh! You wanna… now. Right, sure."
oxo
The door is unlocked and Sirius walks straight in.
"I'm sorry I'm an insecure idiot," he says, as Remus glances up from his book. "Will you forgive me? Do you still want to be with me, because I can fix this."
Remus is quick to nod. "I know you're insecure," he says softly. "But there's nothing to fix, okay. I only want to be with you, and you need to realise that."
"It's just… you liked Simon for ages. He's the first person you slept with and—"
"And the first person you slept with was Marlene. Should I worry about her?"
"It's different," Sirius says.
Remus shakes his head. "Simon is a nice guy. But with him, it was me feeling lonely and hoping feelings would develop. With you, I'm already there. I'm committed to this relationship, but only if you are. You know I'd never cheat on you, Sirius."
"I know. I… I want that commitment. I want a family with you. I want to live together."
"And I'd like that also, one day," Remus tells him. "I swear to you that Simon is not a threat."
Sirius nods. "I trust you. I don't trust him, but I trust you."
"Why don't you sit down and relax? We can talk more and maybe watch a film? Have dinner together? I also wanted to thank you for helping me during my heat - the food was amazing. I've never finished a heat and been so stress-free before."
"I'd like that," Sirius admits. He turns around, locking the door before going to join Remus on the sofa. "And, if you'll have me, I'll make sure all your heats are like that."
"I'll always have you," Remus replies softly. "You're all I've ever wanted."
Feeling optimistic again, Sirius leans in for a kiss. "I'll do better, I promise."
"As long as you try, that's all I'm asking. I love you, and I know we can make this work."
"I… I love you too, and I'll show you just how much."
oxo
They've fixed things. Sirius wonders how long for, because things never stay fixed for him, yet he's willing to put the work in and do whatever it takes to keep Remus because he's never felt like this ever in his life. He's happy, so happy.
It's been almost a month. Almost time for Remus' next heat and Sirius is prepared. He's spent days making up food and putting it into containers in the freezer so that he doesn't have to leave Remus for too long in order to cook. He's bought new sheets, ones that are softer than the cheap ones Remus is used to, because he wants Remus to be comfortable and these aid in the comfort of Omegas. Something in the material is soothing to their heated skin.
He has other changes to make around here to help Remus, though he's doing these things bit by bit. They've broached the subject of Sirius' ruts, but Sirius is terrified of scaring Remus away. Something they can talk about in a few months time where things feel a lot more stable.
His stuff fills two drawers in Remus' room now. He has things hanging in the wardrobe. He's slowly moving in and Remus keeps making more space, though they've yet to talk about it. Again, he's scared.
That's why he's laying awake at two-am, Remus cuddled up into his arms. He's just thinking about how lucky he is, and how happy he is.
The phone on the other side of the bed beeps loudly, stirring Remus. He sees Remus sit up and give the widest of yawns. He looks around, his eyes falling on the lit-up screen.
"Two in the morning," Remus mutters, crossly, grabbing the phone. "I swear, someone better be dying."
Sirius sits up, wrapping his arms around Remus again. "Now we're both awake," he says, letting his lips triail down Remus' neck.
Remus laughs softly. "A few hours till my heat hits, I think we can wait until…" he trails off as he opens the text. "Simon."
Sirius pauses. He tries not to get jealous. Tries not to pull away. Why is Simon messaging Remus at this time of night?
"Yeah? Maybe he… lost track of time," Sirius mutters, trying to keep his voice even. He wants to read the message but he doesn't lean over to look. He just rests his head against Remus and closes his eyes. Staying as calm as he can.
"He wants sex," Remus tells Sirius, causing Sirius' eyes to snap open. "Not that I want to tell you that the message says that, but I don't want to hide things from you."
Sirius says nothing.
"What should I say back?" Remus asks.
"I think that 'no, not ever' would be a wonderful start," Sirius begins grumpily, causing Remus to laugh softy.
He hears the buttons click. "Want to know what I'm writing?" Remus asks.
Yes. So much yes. "I trust you," Sirius says instead. "That's all that matters - I know you won't cheat on me, and that's enough."
"I'm going to tell you anyway," Remus insists softly. "Because I know you, Sirius. I also want to be completely open with you regarding this." He clicks send on the message.
"I'm sorry but I'm not interested in a romantic relationship with you. I'm in a serious relationship. I have a boyfriend who is pretty much living with me and sharing my heats. I'm madly in love with him and I believe this is it for me. I can only offer friendship and nothing more. I hope that's enough, but if it's not, it's time to end this friendship." Remus reads the words aloud. "So…"
"This is it for me too," Sirius assures him. "And thank you."
"For what?"
"Sharing with me," Sirius admits. "So, how about we snuggle back up together and go back to sleep? Big day tomorrow."
"Sounds perfect."
