(after and during the end of Last Dances & Last Chances S3- the rest of prom night)
Prom night was blissful. At least the current moment was. Everything leading up to it was messy, as life tended to be for Austin, Ally, Trish, and Dez. Although there was disappointment tied to thinking of Piper and Gavin that night, the moment Austin and Ally shared now in the center of the dance floor made it all wash away. Ally had never felt more like a queen as she let herself become lost in more than just Austin's eyes… his hands now both on her waist, his sweet smile refusing to leave his face, the depth of his gaze as she gracefully clung to his neck and they swayed to the slow music rhythmically. Their crowns had been giddily returned to their heads by Trish after witnessing their kiss on the dance floor, which was followed by the room chanting for a second King and Queen dance.
Now they enjoyed a perfect slow dance, transfixed by the welcome shock of this beautiful outcome of a stressful night- which was preceded by many months of heartache and feelings all over the place in general. Despite all of that, everything felt clear to Ally now as she savored this dance. The crowd of students watching and filming them as they moved felt irrelevant to them- she only had one line of thought. Austin understood her, respected her, treasured her like nobody else ever would. How could this be more perfect?
Austin had never felt more content as he held Ally's waist in his hands, gazing at her beautiful features complemented by her stunning red dress and tiara, amazed at how lucky it was that playing the drums with drumsticks in the music store years ago led to this moment. He couldn't stop smiling even when he tried to relax his face as he reflected on Ally's importance to him. Meeting her had turned his life upside down and he could tell that every further moment they spent together would continue to change him in the best ways possible.
As they waltzed smoothly across the colorfully lit dance floor, he cherished the feeling of their bodies so close again. It hit him that he had been feeling incredibly lost in the past months. Something else hit him as he thought this- a strong blow of jealousy as he imagined Gavin in his position right now. How many times had they danced… or hugged… or kissed... But he forced those thoughts out of his mind and felt a little bit of weight lift off of his shoulders as Ally tipped down his head and gave him a light kiss, probably sensing his momentary agitation.
Gavin? Whose Gavin? Austin's brain said, feeling like he could lift off and fly as he realized that now he could kiss her any time. Anywhere. Well, to an extent. But they wouldn't have to hide so much anymore. This time their relationship would be real and present in their daily lives, and most importantly, it would have space and time to grow. He'd never been more excited about anything in his life- even his music- he realized, and something in Ally's glistening eyes was telling him that she was feeling similarly.
There were some cheers after Ally kissed him and other couples began to trickle onto the dance floor with them. Ally could see out of the corner of her eye that Trish was busy circling the whole venue, forcing everyone to hand over their phones so that she could delete any videos or pictures of her and Austin.
"Trish is one devoted manager." She commented with a slight disbelieving chuckle, and Austin broke his gaze on her to glance over at Trish's interesting antics. He wondered how far she'd go to try to keep their newly revived relationship out of the media… If something got leaked already they might not be able to go anywhere with the harassment of cameras being at an all time high.
"If she puts her mind to something, it gets done. One way or another." Austin replied, turning back to her.
"Yeahh, ethical principles are only sometimes relevant for her. But I mean, it clearly works." She said, still clutching Austin's neck happily as they swayed along with now large crowd of couples.
"Yeah, totally!… what's ethical principles?" Austin asked a little too seriously. Ally looked down for a second with insincere disappointment and almost lost her crown, but Austin readjusted it for her.
"I'll explain it to you later… your vocabulary is going to expand a lot now that you'll be around me all the time, I hope you realize that." She remarked, and Austin looked smug.
"Right… as long as you let me add some new dance moves to your vocabulary."
Ally rolled her eyes.
"Fine. No more new words for you."
"I'm kidding. The Ally way has charm."
"It does… but lucky for you I'm enjoying this too much to start dancing on my own right now."
"Phew, that's a relief…"
"Hey!"
Austin and Ally continued chatting playfully with a few kisses in the mix for many songs after their King and Queen dance. After Trish finished getting around to everyone to eliminate new material for celebrity gossip media, she and Jace tried their best to dance together with his cast leg, which turned out to be probably a more entertaining and memorable prom experience than if he hadn't broken his leg. They laughed a lot as his best moves almost sent him to the ground. Carrie and Dez joined the area of Trish, Jace, Austin, and Ally, trying their best to work with Carrie's tree-like "stupid beautiful" dress on the dance floor, and the night felt like a dream. Considering how close Ally was to not coming to prom at all, she couldn't have wished for a better night with her friends.
"Now… this is exactly how I pictured tonight."
After another hour it was close to 11:00 PM and they were some of the last few people still at the dance, so the 6 of them decided they should probably head out for a party they'd been invited to by a friend of Austin's at his beach house. His name was Jackson and he was a pretty normal, nice kid, but his little sister was another story. She got into a phase of trying to get sneaky photos of Austin the previous semester as a freshman at their high school, and Ally had heard that she made several hundred dollars off of it. It put her on edge to go to his house party for more reasons than just his sister, but she trusted Austin. He had planned to take Piper, but now that plans changed he asked if all 6 of them would want to join. Nobody had better plans so they all drove separate to the beach house, but Austin and Ally were the first to get to the door together.
"Are you sure this is a good idea? Wasn't Jackson's sister the one who sold a creepy picture of you in gym class to someone for $200? Do you think she'll be here?" Ally asked hesitantly as they stood in the mild light of Jackson's porch at 11:20. Austin had an arm around her as they awaited a familiar face to let them in, and he seemed confident that he knew what he was doing leading everyone to a house they'd never been to belonging to a kid he barely knew.
"Where there is concerningly loud music audible from the basement all the way to the front porch. And headache inducing strobe lights projecting onto the grass in the distance. And probably 20 cars parked alongside…" Ally thought to herself, not hiding her nervousness.
"Oh yeah that's right… she was. That's weird. But Jackson's a cool guy, this'll have to be fun." Austin replied, giving her a confident squeeze.
"You do remember that my idea of fun is curling up and reading by myself for 3 hours, right?" Ally reminded him. Trish, Dez and their dates were approaching the porch now too, and still nobody had opened the door.
"We're gonna have to work on that. Starting now."
"Right…" Ally said with a skeptical look, glancing at Trish nervously when the door finally swung open and it was Jackson's little sister who let them in.
"Isn't that the girl who-" Trish started under her breath.
"Yes..." Ally cut her off.
The younger girl had her hair in a blonde ponytail and was in pajamas and a robe, which made it weird for her to be the one answering the door to a prom after party. She seemed to be far too shocked by seeing Austin and Ally walk in to say anything.
They all awkwardly walked through the doorway and entered the chic beach house as the sister stared at them, assuming that the party was in the direction of the overwhelming noise of talking, singing, and music. The upper part of the house was strikingly well kept and nicely decorated, with bright walls, blue tones, gorgeous chandelier style light fixtures, and bamboo furniture.
"Wow, this place is incredible." Trish exclaimed quietly as the six of them shuffled through the dimly lit home and Jace's crutches banged into something ever so often. They heard the noises getting louder as they approached the back of the house and saw a staircase leading to the basement.
"Guys, I think we are at the wrong house. There's monkey's down there." Carrie informed the group, and they hesitated at the stop of the stairwell now all looking at her.
"Carrie I'm pretty sure those are people. Just really loud, rambunctious, and some might even call scary people." Ally replied nervously.
"Yeah Carrie, I've been to a monkey party before and it sounded NOTHING like this. It smelled nothing like this too." Dez reassured her, and Carrie seemed relieved.
"Guys, don't freak out! Jackson is really nice and doesn't own any monkeys. I think? But anyway, he said this wasn't going to be a huge party, but he promised it would be fun and have lots of snacks so that's all I needed. I'm sure it's gonna be fine."
"Austin… there were no less than twenty cars outside. And if we do some quick math, 3 or 4 people per car, about 22 cars, 2 times 4… that's a TON of people." Trish told him with slight irritation. Ally wasn't truly scared to be there as long as Austin was with her, but with every step closer to the basement she'd become more tense.
"Trish is right, this definitely seems a little bit different than what he was describing to you. But we may as well go down and see what's happening. If we don't like it we can just leave. I doubt it would upset Jackson, he wasn't even the one who let us in." Ally said in an effort to compromise.
"Ok, fine. Let's just check it out and decide if we want to leave once we see what's going on." Austin concurred to please his slightly anxious friends. He still had 100% confidence that the party would end up being fun, but clearly his friends were different people than him. And his girlfriend was clutching his arm for dear life, so maybe he wasn't seeing the situation clearly, but they made their way down the stairs anyway. Jace and Trish were very slow due to the crutches, so Trish yelled for them not to wait up.
"Can you believe this? Austin is crazy for thinking this is a good idea. I already had to delete videos and pictures of practically half of the prom's phones. I don't want to be Austin and Ally's personal security guard again against a bunch of possibly drunk idiots." Trish fumed to Jace as she helped him down the stairs.
"I totally get you Trish, this is not looking promising for an easy going prom party. Not with this group that is." Jace agreed.
"Yeah… Wait a minute. Don't look now, but there are probably ten girls watching us at the balcony above us." Trish whispered discreetly to Jace, and he looked confused but didn't look back. They were still high enough on the stairs to see the upper part of the house.
"Wow it's nice to be around someone normal. If I'd said that to Dez he would have yelled 'what girls above us?' or something else stupid." Trish continued, barely audible.
"Uh, thanks I guess?" Jace replied with a slight laugh, and Trish smiled at him for a quick second before getting another glance at the girls, who were creepily watching them together in the dark. That's when she realized that one of them was Jackson's sister, and the others had to be other freshmen from their school. All of them were also in pajamas…
"Oh no. Slumber party." Trish whispered once they were far enough down the stairs that the girls couldn't see them.
"That sounds like something Austin Moon should fear." Jace answered with a smirk.
"Exactly… there's no way they aren't here to terrorize Austin. We've gotta find him and Ally right now and warn them to get out of here." Trish said, and they picked up their speed trying to limp down the stairs. Meanwhile, Austin, Ally, Trish and Dez were in shock in the environment of Jackson's basement, weaving through senseless juniors and seniors from their school that didn't seem to be aware of what was going on at all. Most of them were just being very loud, dancing, playing haphazard games of pool and ping pong, throwing things back and forth, and grabbing handfuls of food. The others were either making out, trying to have a legitimate conversation, or doing something on their phones. It was a complete mess down there compared to the serene rooms they had passed through upstairs, complimented by a moonlit ocean view. This part of the house was just a raging, disordered zoo.
"I think monkey's would behave better than this." Ally said, sharing incredulous expressions with Austin, Carrie, and Dez.
"They did behave better than this. That monkey party I was at was surprisingly classy." Dez said, and it was too loud for Ally to attempt to question him further about this supposed party. Suddenly a guy in a floral suit made his way over to Austin and Ally with a chicken drumstick in hand, grabbing Austin's arm and lifting it to the air with his free hand.
"AUSTIN MOOON!" He yelled out, and some of the people cheered noticing that he'd arrived. Luckily most were so oblivious with all the craziness going on that they didn't react. Ally was still clutching Austin's arm and slapped the floral suit guy's arm away from his other one, so he gave her a scowl and sauntered off.
"Uhh, Austin? I know we haven't found Jackson yet, but I'm feeling like that fun little introduction was our cue to leave." Dez remarked, and Austin nodded disappointedly.
"I can't believe this is the small party Jackson was talking about. I wouldn't have thought he'd hold something like this." Austin answered nearly at a yell because of the volume in the room, looking defeated as a cheese curl landed in Ally's hair. He brushed it off and Ally gave him a consoling look.
"It's not like we didn't warn you." she thought to herself nevertheless, astounded by everything she saw around them. All of a sudden Trish and Jace appeared behind them in the sea of people and Trish grabbed Austin's shoulder.
"Austin we've got to get out of here. Not only is this place clearly a madhouse, but there is a whole slumber party of girls here that I'm sure is waiting to attack you at any moment." Austin seized up for a second as the group awaited his directions.
"Ok… RUN!" He squeaked out loudly as he saw the group of freshman girls looking at them through the basement window outside of the house. The six of them maneuvered their way through the crowd as fast as possible and Ally was barely holding on to Austin's hand as he flew to the stairs. She couldn't blame him, she'd heard the many stories of Trish's private meet and greets in the Full Moon Tour bus and how Austin rarely escaped them with all of his clothes still on.
When all six of them finally got to the top of the stairs, the lights were on and a dozen girl's screams erupted at the landing. Austin shrieked too as Jackson't little sister shoved Ally out of the way and Austin became lost in a pile of girls grabbing at his suit, keys, and even Ally's bag that he'd been holding for her.
"Hey get your hands off my bag!" She yelled, doing her best to pull girls away in her long dress and heels.
"Oh uh, and Austin! Get off him!" She corrected herself in the roar of screams, in slight physical pain seeing all of the things in her handbag scattering across the room. She was far more worried about Austin however, who meanwhile was still shrieking like a 14 year old girl himself, so she motioned for Dez and Trish to come help her shove everyone off of him. The scene would have been hilarious if it weren't such an overwhelming amount of girls. Trish grabbed Austin's jacket and Dez grabbed his shirt somehow, dangling them up high and backing away from the pile so that the girls would follow.
"I want it I want it!" One of them yelled, and enough of them stood to try to snatch the clothes that Ally could help him off the ground. He was now shirtless with a couple scratches on his chest and had a look of terror on his face. Luckily for him he hadn't lost his pants or shoes this time around. Ally grabbed up her heels in her right hand and with her left she took Austin's arm and ran him to the front door and out of the house.
"That just gave me PTSD to the meet and greets on my tour." He gasped out once they were on the front porch, but when he and Ally looked at each other they both had to laugh a little.
"Next time I say 'it's gonna be fine', we're listening to you." He said, and Ally placed a hand on his chest where he was scratched.
"Now you're catching on… do those hurt?" She was having trouble not staring at his strong upper half; his toned abs and chest were dreamy. She felt bad about how he lost his shirt though and was ready for them to get out of this place for the night.
"No, not really. Well maybe a little I guess." He responded, enjoying her touch. He stretched himself out and they chatted about everything that had just gone down while waiting for the others to join them. Eventually they all stumbled out and Trish informed Austin that he would never be seeing his shirt or jacket again- it was the price to pay to prevent another attack. They all agreed to just head to Dez' house for the rest of the night, which Austin began to feel like they should have just done in the first place. He felt terrible, he should have just listened to Ally's uneasiness. Everyone stopped at home to change into pajamas first and then arrived at Dez' house around midnight. The six of them were finally able to laugh at the night's events now that they could look back on it in the comfort of Dez' basement, complete with a huge comfy L-couch and massive TV playing a Zalien movie.
"We were in there for maybe 5 minutes and I saw enough insanity to last me the whole night. Maybe the whole week."
"I was definitely getting sick of wearing that suit, but when I imagined finally taking it off I had pajamas in mind, not a freshman slumber party."
"Did you see that kid covered in sand and chips in the backyard? In his most likely rented suit? I have a bad feeling he was drinking something other than water before we got there."
"How will Jackson ever see his basement the same after what was going on in the far right corner?"
"I am definitely feeling some cheeto dust in your hair Ally."
They were exhausted and slap happy, barely paying attention to the movie. Each couple was lounged together on the sofa trying to keep their eyes open as the hours of dancing and scrambling around caught up to them. Ally was slowly sinking from Austin's shoulder to his lap with every minute that passed, finding it hard to stay awake as he subconsciously played with her hair and she was completely relaxed into his warmth.
"Even with all that, thank you guys for making this the best night it could be." Ally made sure to say this before any of them completely fell asleep. Her dad wanted her home by 1:30 AM and she did too, so this was no sleepover, but that wasn't stopping any of them from drifting off to the not so peaceful ambiance of Zaliens. There were some tired mumbles of agreement in response, but what mattered most to her was Austin sleepily leaning down to kiss her forehead and then collapsing back into the sofa cushion. They were together again and her heart was full. That- and the crazy memories with her friends in the last few hours- was all she needed to have the best prom night ever.
I came up with my own weird little story line for this chapter so I hope that was somewhat interesting, haha :) I had a lot fun writing this, especially after some of my own dance experiences. I'll be posting another chapter sometime in the near future but I wouldn't expect for another week or so because I am very busy at the moment. As a hint to an upcoming chapter, there will be some travelling with Austin, Ally, Trish and Dez involved that I imagined to have taken place in season 3. Thanks for reading and giving feedback!
