Day 8: Part 2

Entering her apartment an hour later Kate took her hat off and placed it on the kitchen bench

"Do you want a brew?" Mike's voice echoed through her head

"Kate?" he placed a hand on her shoulder

"Yeah… Yep?" she turned to face him leaning her back against the bench

"Do you want a brew?" he repeated

"No I'm fine" she smiled sadly

"Is everything okay?" he questioned

"Fine" she nodded

"Kate, talk to me" he stopped in front of her

"You sure this was the right choice?"

"Kate… you decided…"

"Yeah I know it's just…" she reached out and pulled him against her

"Your having second thoughts, about swapping?" he moved a lose piece of hair behind her ear

"No, it's… what if it dosen't work out there's only a fifty percent chance that it'll happen and…"

"Then we keep trying until it does Kate…" he moved his hands around her hips and lifted her up to sit on the bench

"What if it's too soon, we've only been married a day and…" Mike shifted forward placing a soft kiss against her lips to silence her

"I want a family with you Kate, this isn't a rush decision it's something we both want" he pulled back resting his forehead against hers

"I know… I guess I'm just not sure if I can handle you being out at Sea endangering your life" she ran her thumb across his bottom lip

"Kate…"

"I'm being stupid I know…"

"We can still change our minds; Marshall did give us a week"

"No… I want this, I want us to start trying for a family and if I'm out at sea there is higher risks for me then being stuck behind a desk" she moved her head back

"I know" he nodded

"But you have to make me a promise Mike, if we do this if we start trying for a kid you need to stop being so mighty and risking your life more than you should because if this works out and we manage to create this fragile little life…"

"It won't be just you I come home too"

"I don't want to have to raise our future kid or kids alone trying to constantly explain why their Daddy isn't home" she looked at him sadly

"Kate, the idea of having a family with you creating this whole other life I want that and I'd do anything to have that"

"Promise me you won't risk you life the way you have in the past" she gripped his shirt

"I promise" he placed his hand over hers

"Good" she began undoing the buttons on his shirt

"Kate… what are you doing?" he grinned

"We need to get some practise in, I mean I can stop if you want" she moved her hands back

"Don't even think about it" he pulled them back before moving his head in and meeting her lips in a passionate kiss

"I… love you Sailor…" she moaned against his lips when she pushed his shirt off his form

"And I love you Mrs Flynn" he lifted her up into his arms carrying her down the hall to the bedroom.

One Year Later:

"Hey Mumma" Mike entered her office closing the door behind him

"Kate?" he questioned confused,

placing his hat down on her desk he moved around stopping in front of her chair he smiled to himself at seeing Kate asleep her hands wrapped protectively around the bundle in her arms

"Kate…" he whispered knelling next to her chair

"Mmm" she slowly opened her eyes

"Afternoon sleepy head" her tired green eyes met his

"I thought you weren't due in until this afternoon" she yawned

"It is the afternoon baby" he reached across brushing the hair behind her ear

"I was doing paperwork and…" she looked down at sleeping baby in her arms

"Was he fussing again?" he ran his thumb across his son's nose

"Midnight, Two am, Four am and Six"

"I'm sorry I wasn't there" he looked up at her sadly

"It's ok, you have a job to do we get that"

"You want me to take him?" Mike slipped his hand under his small tummy supporting his head and lifting him into his arms getting a little squeak in return

"Thanks" Kate moved to stand stretching her muscles every inch of her cracking at the stiffness

"Why didn't you ask for help? It thought the whole idea of Marshall letting you bring him into work was so you'd have extra support, extra help"

"I can handle him he's only five months old, what I can't handle is the amount of paperwork Marshall keeps giving me" she ran her hands through her hair

"Kate… when you wanted to come back to work I agreed because you were sick of being couped up in the house but this is ridiculous your exhausted" he noticed the bags under her eyes and her tired form

"What am I supposed to do? Your out at Sea, and it's just me and Owen at home it's not like I can call, and you'll be right there in a flash"

"Kate…"

"I don't blame you Mike, when Marshall gave us that offer last year we accepted it but we made the decision for me to stay on shore because we wanted to start a family and believe me I don't regret Owen but I didn't expect it to happen so quickly…" she sighed

"I know…" he moved towards her pulling her into a side hug

"I get your out at Sea saving the world but we need you home too, I don't want to have to explain to Owen when he gets older why his Daddy isn't home all the time" she wrapped her arm behind his back while the other rested on Owen's back

"I'm sorry…" he sighed sadly

"I know you are" she closed her eyes when Mike placed a kiss on her forehead

"Time for the shore posting I think" Mike looked down when Kate's head whipped back

"What?" she asked in surprise

"You and Owen are all hat matter to me Kate, and I don't want to miss a second of watching my little man grow up"

"Your serious?"

"I already saw Steve before coming in here, the office next to door is now mine" he smiled

"So your..."

"Home Kate, I'm home" he leaned down placing a soft kiss against her lips a small gurgle interrupting them

"I think someone approves" she smiled across at Owen who now had his eyes open and was looking up at his Dad

"Hey little man" Mike's eyes were met with another ocean blue pair

"Did you think we'd end up here a year ago?" Kate brushed her thumb across Owen's cheek

"A year ago we were spending three weeks on a Patrol boat, this right here is all I ever dreamed off" Mike smiled when Kate rested her head on his shoulder they both looked at Owen with love in their eyes.

It is strange,

but true,

that the most important turning-points of life often come at the most unexpected times and in the most unexpected ways.

(So this is the end... I know it's not exactly what you'd probably expect but I just not sure how to continue it, so thanks for all the reviews and love hope you've enjoyed see you for the next story! Xx)
