Chapter 13: The Hidden Intention
After being rescued by the three bounty hunters, Kaiyu rushed towards the Jump City's union hospital to save Starfire. He tried to avoid the public eye's as he stayed low while moving swiftly like a ninja.
I need to get there fast! He thought. Before it's too late! It was the first time for him to feel worried about the fallen enemy who he had stabbed her with his poisonous dart.
At that time, he was doing his job to get the cargo from the target. The local vigilantes were interrupting his mission, so he didn't have the alternative in his head to surrender. Instead, he chose to kill the vigilantes once and for all. But when he was about to pull the trigger to kill the flying princess, he felt the hesitation to do it.
Why did I hesitate? He asked to himself. Were there any connections between us?
His question was soon answered when a series of flashbacks appeared like a pack of flashcards flipping it right in front of his own eyes. The buried memories he saw were all took place before coming down to planet earth. It made him uncomfortable at first with the instant outburst of the old forgotten memories as if it gave him a painful migraine.
However, when he carefully looked at what he saw in those flashbacks, some of them had...Starfire in it! He was deeply surprised to see her face in his memories in the beginning. But for some reason, it gradually felt...somewhat dearie for the Tamaran Princess.
Why is it so? He doesn't know. But when he recalled his father's words, "Protect her Kaiyu...You...are her bodyguard...", there is something he should remember what happened during the blank years. Knowing that Starfire could help him remember his buried memories, it is the race against time to get there quickly.
While this is going on right now, what happened to the three bounty hunters who broke him out of the detention cell?
Let us take a quick look back at the past and found out...their fate.
(During the escape)
The two humanoid bounty hunters were in front of the other two human bounty hunters. They were in charge of the lookout at any incoming police force. Both of them were carrying an A280C blaster rifle. It is a standard-issue army rifle for both the Republic and the Sith Empire. But it found its way into the underworld for those who favor its high accuracy and effectiveness at range.
While the two carry those bulky rifles, the human bounty hunter was carrying a DT-12 heavy blaster pistol. This gun is not only heavy, but it is also among the most difficult one for humans to use it. It was merely used by non-humans like the Rodian as they have big hands to cover the grip. Due to their wider trigger and thicker handle allowing for larger hands and fingers to operate a conventionally sized blaster, it is a bit strange for a human bounty hunter to carry such a weapon.
Then why he carries it? Well, that because his dominant hand was replaced with a prosthetic arm. He had lost it before he came to planet earth so he has been using that huge blaster pistol for some time.
Walking behind the Mandalorian's back as a rearguard, the human bounty hunter hopes the local police haven't noticed that the Mandalorian is already out of the police department.
As they are now...in the sewers.
"Are you sure we are going the right way?" The Rodian asked.
"My sense of direction never fails." The Trandoshan replied.
"You better be. The sooner we get there, the quicker I could get my hands on those fat stacks of credits."
"The guild master will split the cash into twenty-twenty. One for me, for you, for the human and the rest..."
"Will be in our boss's hands I know." The Rodian sighed as he quietly answered it so the Mandalorian would not hear their conversation. But too bad for them cause Kaiyu heard what were they talking about thanks to his helmet's enhancing hearing system. It enables him to eavesdrop even the quietest voices that an average person can not hear.
Their boss? He quietly thought, So the guild master hired him to operate this crusade. But...if the guild master hired their boss to rescue me, where is their boss?
As they kept walking further in the sewage, the human bounty hunter stopped his steps as he began to listen to an incoming message from his ear call receiver. The other three all looked back at the human bounty hunter when he mumbled his words.
"Yeah...we are on the way...yes...we successfully get him out...yes...got it."
"Who was that?" The Rodian asked.
"It's from the attacker team. They are pulling out from the gunfight. We will rendezvous with them in the sewerage."
"And 'him'?" The Rodian gave weird eye contact to the human bounty hunter, referring to their boss. The human bounty hunter noticed who him meant was as he shook his head to the side.
"Nope. No message from him. I think he is still busy taking care of his...medical errands." He paused his sentence right before he finished it. He could not say that their boss is dealing with the You Know Who Group in a particular pharmaceutical facility. If he uttered it, who knows how the Mandalorian will react. They better make sure he is not aware.
"Well then, let's get going. My scorekeeper is looking at my action with great interest." The Trandoshan hissed his words as he returned to move forward. The other three including the Mandalorian also followed pursuit, to reunite with the attacker team.
However, the Mandalorian's suspicion grew bigger and bigger after listening to their conversation. Especially with the human bounty hunter's word: "Medical Errands".
Taking care of his medical errands? What would he need to do that during the rescue operation? Unless...NO!
When he finally realized what was going on, he quickly drew his blaster pistol to kill the two humanoids first. The two humanoids heard the blaster's cocking as they looked back to see what went wrong with the Mandalorian. They saw he already drew the weapon and was ready to kill the two. They didn't have the time to react as they got shot point-blank in the head.
When he killed the two within a millisecond, it shocked the human bounty hunter deeply. Seeing his fellow bounty hunter got killed in the scene, he noticed that the Mandalorian already know the hidden intention of the crusade.
He reached to his heavy blaster pistol to stun him down for good but Kaiyu quickly turned back his body and shot the human's prosthetic arm off.
"OW!" the human yelled. He leaned against on the well as he slowly kneeled down on the wet ground painfully.
Kaiyu kept aiming at the human's head in case he made a move on him. "Now talk. Why the guild master hired your boss to kill the local vigilantes?"
The human bounty hunter shivered his body as he looked up to the Mandalorian's emotionless helmet. "B-because the guild master to eliminate the witness! While our boss takes care of it, we were told to break you out of jail and...erase your memories or something..."
"Why would he need that?"
"I-I don't know!"
PEW!
"AHH! My leg!"
"Bad answer."
"Alright alright! The vigilantes...one of them was a Tamarian Princess named, Koriand'r. He s-said something about the Siege of Tamara. I-I don't know much about the event but I do know that during the invasion, there was a small group of Mandalorians fighting against the invaders. And one of the Mandalorians happened to be...the former Grand Champion of the Great Hunt!"
"Princess Koriand'r? And...the former Grand Champion...of the Great Hunt?" Kaiyu asked.
"Y-yes!
Could it be...my father? What was he doing on that planet? Was it a Mandalorian way to help the defenseless royal family?
He couldn't stop asking himself that his father was on the planet Tamara, siding with the royal family to fight against the invasion. What made him do such a chivalry action must be answered right after he saved Starfire's life.
"So please! I told you everything! If you let me live, I will give you all my credits! What do you say?!" The human begged the Mandalorian to let him go.
"..." He looked down on the wounded bounty hunter, whether he should let him go or not. But before he decided to do so, he needs to know how the guild master got the information that he was in the police department.
He might have had his men hack into the police's security camera, which could gain access to show the location of every area in the facility.
Or...it could be something else that it is already 'inside' of him.
"...Do you have any ideas on how the guild master knows where I am?"
"Y-yes...he said that he implanted a small tracking device in your forearm. That is how we...know where you are being held. Still, it is weird for an employer to do so..."
It was within the expectation that the tracking device will be somewhere in his body, but did not expect that it will be literally inside of him. He felt a little disgust at the guild master's treatment. It almost made Kaiyu feel like a livestock. That has a chain around his neck that has the owner's name on the collar.
Huh...what a dirty thing to do to his employee. Especially to a Mandalorian! We are not anyone's pet!
After getting the answer from the human bounty hunter, he now knows what to do with the poor guy.
"Well then...there is something I need you to do for me if I let you go..."
"W-what is it?" he asked, hoping it won't cost his life. But he couldn't get the answer he wanted as Kaiyu knocked him out unconscious.
DONG!
"Something you will not notice that I am away..." And he began to do something to the poor human bounty hunter.
(A few minutes later)
When the attacker team has arrived in the sewer, the rescuer team were not there at the rendezvous point.
"Where the hell are they?" One of the members asked.
"Maybe they got lost." The other member replied. "The earth's sewers are actually bigger so."
"It can't be! They have the oversized lizard, the Trandoshan to guide the way!"
"Hmm...let's check the Mandalorian's tracking device." They all brought up their tracking fobs which were given by the guild master. It has a beeping alarm on the device so when the alarm beeps loudly, that means the Mandalorian is in that direction. They moved their body 360 degrees to find which path triggers the alarm loudly.
After doing this for a few seconds, one of the members found the path that beeps rapidly. "Ah! There it is! Come on." As they all followed towards the same direction where the Mandalorian and the rescuer team could possibly be there, they didn't notice that the sewer's exit which was behind the attacker team was shut tightly by a certain figure.
He locked the door down firmly so the attacker team cannot escape. And when he thinks the door is too tight enough, he got ready to initiate the trap that will kill them all at once.
Being unaware that the attacker team is now already on the verge of meeting their doom, they finally reached their destination and did not expect to see two corpses, and one unconscious injured on the ground.
"Huh?! Where is the Mandalorian?!" One of them asked.
"It seems he got away and beaten them down." One of them replied.
"If that's so, then why the tracking fobs is still beeping?!" They became to panic a little as they look back and forth to find where Kaiyu is. But then, the wounded human bounty hunter opened his eyes slowly and uttered something from his mouth. One attacker noticed it as he bent down to hear what he said.
"What? What did you say?"
"...un...rap...om..b.."
"Hey, this guy is still alive but barely could speak it clearly."
"Really? Well, what is he saying?"
"I think he said...'Run...it is...a..trap..om..b'..."
"W-what?" The attackers were dumbfounded when they heard the "trap". So when they took a step closer to listen to the wounded's words, their tracking fobs became incredibly loud enough that could almost burst their eardrums. When that happens, they notice the object that looks like the tracking device is above the human's head. As they saw what it was, they saw that the device is being glued on the proximity bomb that has about a dozen of them. And from that point onwards, they understood what was the last word that human bounty hunter was trying to warn them. But it was already too late.
BOMB
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Kaiyu ignited all the bombs which he planted on the wall as he pressed the buttons on his gauntlets. He now has taken care of the guild master's tracking device along with the mysterious figure's henchman. This will make him anonymous to save the local vigilantes without any concern about being observed by his boss.
"Two down...and one to go." He faced the Jump City's union hospital and immediately run towards it to be there on time.
