Chapter 2:

That night, Simba tried to sleep, but he couldn't. He was just too excited to even try and count gazelles. Carefully wriggling out of his mother's grasp, he slowly walked out of Pride Rock. Sitting on the edge, he gazed up at the stars. A few nights before, his father took him out and told him about the Great Kings of the Past.

"Great Kings of the Past, you think tomorrow will be a good one?" he innocently asked.

He took the warm breeze that blew as a "yes". Simba chuckled. "Yeah I think so too."

"Simba?"

He turned to see his father looking at him with a hint of amusement.

"Oh uh, hey Dad," he sheepishly grinned.

Mufasa chuckled. "You know, if you go to sleep now, you'll have more energy to play with Malka and his new friends."

Simba gasped. His father was right! He'd be too tired to even think about Malka if he stayed awake. Still...

"Come on, just a bit longer," Simba quietly pleaded.

Mufasa rose a brow, prompting Simba to listen. He walked back into the den, Mufasa following close behind.

The boy's really mine, the king chuckled to himself.

Morning hit, and the cubs were ready to have fun.

"Man, why aren't they here yet!" Vitani exclaimed.

The adults chuckled to themselves.

"Honey, they live pretty far from us," Sarafina explained, "they probably won't be here for some time."

"Which why you guys should just run along and play," Scar joined in.

"Daddy, tell us a story," Vitani stated.

"Yeah, Mister Scar! Your stories are awesome!" Kula backed Vitani up.

Scar rubbed his head. "I told you just Scar is fine. Mister makes me feel old."

Vitani giggled. "Daddy, you are old."

The other cubs laughed, and the adults stifled their laughter. Scar playfully shrugged. "You know what, princess? You're right, I'm too old to be telling you young lads stories."

Realizing his trick, the cubs raced over to the now sitting lion.

"No no no, tell us a story!" Nala pleaded.

"Please, Uncle Scar?" Simba begged.

"I'll get my birds to attack," Tojo jokingly threatened.

"They may be feathery, but they're brutal," Chumvi warned.

Scar teasingly let out a deep sigh. "I suppose I could tell you brats a story,"

"Yeah!" all the cubs cheered.

Following Scar out to the grassy fields, Mufasa called out, "be back soon!"

"Trust me, we will" was his brother's retort.

Mufasa chuckled as his little brother went off with the cubs. Turning to Sarabi, Sarafina, and Zira, he sought out information from them. "Is everything prepared for the Mountain Pride visit?"

The three nodded, and all four of the lions went their separate ways until the arrival of the Mountain Landers.

"...And the cheetah, lion, and hyena all kept their lifelong friendship, and this friendship passed onto their kids. The end."

The cubs stared in awe as Scar told another one of his stories. He was so captivating, even the dullest story could be made exciting if it were told by him.

"Wow! That was awesome, Daddy!" Vitani cheered.

"Yeah, Uncle Scar, you rock!" Simba agreed.

Scar grinned. "Anything for you brats. Now go run off and play."

Laughing, the cubs did what they were told, and Scar walked back to Pride Rock. Not long after, Vitani's twin brother, Kovu, came to join.

"Hey, guys!" he greeted them.

"Hey, 'Vu."

Sitting down, he joined in on their conversation.

"I wonder when Malka will get here," Vitani wondered.

"They're probably running late," Chumvi suggested.

The cubs sat there, not wanting to play until their other friend was there. They made their way towards the waterhole, where in the far distance they noticed a large mass moving towards Pride Rock.

"Woah, that's a huge blob!" Kula cried.

"Are we under attack?" Tojo worriedly asked.

Chumvi cackled. "We're not under attack."

Simba got up and turned to his friends. "Maybe we should let my parents know."

The others agreed, and they made their way to the rocky monument.

Mufasa and Sarabi looked over the ledge of Pride Rock, Sarafina, Zira, and Scar nearby. They caught sight of the mass as well, and looked at each other in surprise.

"They're a bit early," Mufasa noted.

Inside the royal den, Nuka along with Dotty and Spotty were chatting with each other. Being too young to hang with the adults but too old to hang out with the younger ones, they've been an inseparable trio since day one.

"I bet Kovu's excited to see Kiara again," Spotty stated.

In search of an adventure, Kiara stumbled across the Pride Lands and ran into Kovu. The two grew inseparable, and would often spend some nights at each other's prides whenever they could.

"Haha, yeah, those are such an inseparable pair," Dotty agreed.

"The nost chaotic partners in crime," Nuka chuckled.

Not too long after, the other cubs came running up.

"King Mufasa. Queen Sarabi!"

"Mufasa, Sarabi!"

"Mom, Dad!"

"Uncle Muffy, Auntie 'Rabi!"

The royal couple turned to see the frantic year old cubs.

"King Mufasa, we're under attack!" Tojo wailed.

"No we're not, Tojo," Vitani sighed. She turned to her aunt and uncle. "Are we?"

The king and queen burst into laughter, while the other three adults stifled their own.

"No, 'Tani, we're not under attack," Sarabi finally answered.

"In fact," Mufasa proposed, "why don't you guys join us in greeting our guests?"

Excited, the cubs sprinted down the rocky slope cheering. Mufasa turned to the teens and adults chuckling, before heading down with his mate. A moment or so after, the teens walked out of the den.

"We're going off to the waterhole," Nuka informed his parents.

Nodding their heads, they watched as they walked off, still talking away.

"He really loves her," Scar commented.

Zira smiled. "Our baby's all grown up."

Scar smiled at the comment. "Damn right."

Arriving at the grassy fields, the lions looked out towards the crowd coming towards them. From afar, Mufasa could make out King Jahi, along with his mate, Alena, and the Mountain Lands prince himself, Malka.

Stopping in front of them, the kings shared a welcoming head-butt, whiled the queens nuzzled each other.

"We're so glad to see you guys again," Jahi commented.

Mufasa returned the grin. "As my mate and I."

While the royals caught up, the Mountain Lands cubs made their way to where the others were. Kovu called out to Kiara, and immediately the two ran off together.

"Simba!"

The Pride Lands cubs turned to see a reddish brown cub with black tufts running towards them.

"Hey, Malka!" Simba greeted him.

The group caught up and talked as if they hadn't been apart at all whatsoever. Malka's eyes lit up, and he ran off.

"Where'd he go?" Nala wondered.

"Who knows?" Tojo shrugged.

The cubs shook it off, and stared up a new conversation.

"So, these are the Pride Lands cubs!"

They turned to see Malka with an unfamiliar lioness cub eyeing them up and down.

She had a creamy brown coat, and a tuft smaller than Vitani's on her own head. Her light brown eyes held genuine disinterest.

"Uh, who are you?" Chumvi asked.

She wasn't answering, but was still eyeing them. Clearing his throat, Malka gestured to her.

"Guys, this is Tama, daughter of my parents' advisor," Malka answered. They found her standoffish attitude odd, but chalked it up to her being shy.

"Hiya, I'm Kula!" Kula's extroverted side popped out, "That's, Nala, Chumvi, Tojo-"

"And I'm Simba, prince of the Pride Lands," he introduced himself, then gestures to Vitani, "and this is my cousin, Princess Vitani."

"You can call me 'Tani, if you want," Vitani informed her.

Tama only nodded at them, while Malka's smile faltered.

"I can't wait to spend these few weeks with you guys!" Malka started up the conversation again.

They continued talking as they made their way to the den, intent on having as much fun as possible.

With the guests now here, the lionesses had decided then would be a good time to hunt dinner. Despite permission to stay back from Sarabi, the Mountain Lands queen insisted on helping.

"Good work, ladies," Sarabi congratulated them.

Dragging the kill back, they tried to go as fast as they could to the others.

"Malka's ecstatic to be here," Alena stated, "he's always talking about how much he misses your kids."

Sarabi chuckled. "Same with Simba," she replied, "I swear if I didn't know any better, I would've betrothed them two."

The females laughed, and continued their light talk while hauling the kill.

Waiting for their mates to return, the lions sat outside and caught up.

"Your kids haven't changed a bit," Jahi said to the king and older prince, "and Nuka's grown up so much."

Scar let out a happy breath. "Yeah, he turned three not too long ago."

Mufasa turned to the royal advisor, Waziri, who hadn't said a word. "Is everything alright?"

He sighed. "Yes, I'm just worried about Tama.

Scar was curious about this statement. "And why's that?"

The advisor explained, and the Pride Lands lions' hearts went out to him.

"I'm sure she'll be fine," Scar encouraged him.

Mufasa nodded in agreement. "Especially with the cubs here to make her feel at home."

Feeling slightly better, he thanks them for the reassurance, and engaged in their conversation.

While the adults were outside, the cubs stayed in the den playing games to pass time.

"Pinned ya!"

Nala had beaten Kula this round. As mean as it was, she could never come close beat her.

"Yeah yeah yeah, I know." Kula allowed Nala to help her up. Playfully glaring at her, she shot one last jab out. "Don't get used to it, creamy!"

Nala returned the look. "Whatever, brownie!"

Laughing, the girls separated, and Kula walked away. Vitani stood in the background, watching as Tama sat down, not interacting with anyone.

She doesn't seem very friendly, Vitani thought to herself.

"Hey, 'Tani."

She knew that voice anywhere. Turning back around, she grinned. "Heya, Malka."

Walking away, they didn't notice the pair of eyes staring them down.

Kiara and Kovu laughed as they ran across the fields. The two of them were an inseparable duo, and they made any little activity fun.

"So what's happened at the Mountain Lands?" Kovu asked her.

"Well, I started hunt training," Kiara explained, "and honestly..." she looked at Kovu, "that was the only good thing."

Kovu's smile faded. "What do you mean, what else happened?"

Kiara looked up at him; seeing she didn't want to talk about it, he didn't push her anymore.

"Hey, it's okay! You don't have to talk about it. Let's just keep playing."

Kiara wiped her eyes and nodded. Nudging Kovu on the shoulder, she ran. "Tag, you're it!"

Running after her, the two laughed and forgot all about the conversation.

Dinner was just about to be served. The cubs in the den were growing antsy, and their hunger wasn't helping.

"Oh come on!" Kula cried. She turned to Simba. "Can't you make your dad hurry? I'm starving!"

Chumvi facepalmed, and Nala walked up to calm her down. "Kula, you gotta relax-"

"But I'm starving!" she whined.

Malka shook his head, while the other Mountain Lands cubs rolled their eyes at her childishness.

Mufasa's and Jahi's roars sounded the area, and Kula wasted in no time sprinting towards the food. "Boy, I can't wait to dig my teeth into some-whoa!" Kula toppled forward as she tripped over her long, brown tail.

She's gonna fall, Chumvi thought. He went to catch her, but he was too late.

Kula fell, all right. Right on top of Tama!

"Oof!" the cubs fell to the floor in a heap.

Chumvi ran over to help Kula up as Malka did the same for Tama.

Kula gasped and tried to brush Tama's forelegs. "Oh Kings, I'm so sorry. It doesn't look like you scraped yourself."

Tama harshly batted her paw away before giving her an icy stare. "Ugh, get your paws off of me. Maybe you should use your eyes next time."

Kula bowed her head as Tama rolled her eyes her before walking right past her. Malka gave Kula a sympathetic look before going after Tama.

"Are you okay?" Chumvi asked.

Kula quickly recovered. "Y-Yeah, I'm fine."

The two walked out, still a bit surprised by her response.

The cubs had eaten and were now playing outside. Mufasa and Sarabi were keeping watch while the other adults simply hung out and conversed in the royal den.

"Come on guys, let's play!" Kula cried.

"Kula, we just ate," an irritated Nala argued.

Kula rolled her eyes and huffed. "You're no fun, Nala."

She got up and ran off towards the waterhole. Not long after, the lion cubs left with Malka, leaving Nala by herself.

"So...Nala, right?"

Nala turned to see Tama, the new cub.

She eyed Nala up and down for a moment, before slowly looking back up at her.

"I heard you had a pretty good reputation with wrestling," Tama voiced.

Nala blinked, wondering where this was going.

A side of her muzzle curved upward. "Guess the rumors weren't wrong."

Nala bashfully smiled and opened her mouth to answer, but was interrupted before she could do so.

"Pretty good? She's the pinning queen," Simba pridefully cut in.

Tama looked back and gave the prince a dirty look. "I'm sorry, did we invite you into our conversation?"

Simba was taken aback by her cold response, but before he could defend himself, the lioness cubs had already walked away and resumed their conversation.

Simba had no clue who Tama thought she was; she spoke to Nala and was rude to him. From that moment on, he had bitter feelings for the new cub.

If she thinks she can come into my home, be rude, and steal my best friend, she's got another thing coming.
