Kage's POV
"So the council said no dice to cutting off Veronica?" I said.
"Unfortunately." Master replied "So we'll have to take matters into our own hands."
"And you want me to sneak into the weapons locker and steal the spell Kalard created to seal the Phoenix." I confirmed.
"You're looking for an arrow." He said "You're a dispeller so you'll know it when you see it."
"I'll be back as quick as I can." I said slipping into the shadows.
I slowly and carefully slid by guards and slinked under the door into the unguarded room. I slid through the shadows until I found an ornate chest. Inside the chest was a glass case.
"The Arrow of Evil's Destruction…" I mumbled "This is it, but the spell…dammit…"
I heard a guard so I closed the chest, and took the arrow back to Master.
"Did you get it?" Jet whispered.
"Yep…Hey Makarov." I said "Do you understand the full gravity of this dispel?"
"Yes." he said walking off without looking at me "Let us leave it at that."
"Of course Master…" I said walking after him "Come on Jet we need to hurry."
Scruff's POV
On the train ride to Veronica we formed out a small plan, once we arrived at the city we'd break in and split up to find Éclair. I was put with the group in charge of protecting Lucy and Wendy while they broke in. When we arrived at Veronica the gates to the capital were already closed off.
The guards watching the gate were too busy chatting to notice us until it was too late.
"Who goes there? The gates closed for the night." They informed us.
"We say it's open!" Gray charged forward and blasted the guards away with some ice.
"Outta the way!" Natsu yelled blowing the gate down.
We went through the gate and headed deeper into the city to find Éclair and bring her back. We split up into groups and all headed our separate ways. My group didn't get very far into town before we got confronted by Carbuncle.
"I thought we could fool them into thinking we were just some girls and their pets." Lily said changing into his battle form.
I followed suit and took out my Ringblade "Looks like they're from Carbuncle, they must be assisting with security for the event."
"Hmm." Miss Wendy grunted.
"Are you scared?" Lily asked.
"No Sir." She said with a smile "We're here to help someone tonight, so I gotta be brave."
"The three of us will handle this Miss Lucy." I told her "You go on ahead."
"I guess I owe you one." She said as we made a hole for her to get passed.
I dodged a few men and cut some down with my weapon.
"Boomerang Blade!"
I threw the ring through the crowd of mages and let it cut some of them down. I was making decent work of my opponents when I saw Miss Wendy getting overwhelmed by some mages. I slid under them and scooped her out of the way of a magic blade.
"Ha! Thank you." She smiled.
"It was my honor." I smirked catching my Ringblade as it came back to me "Are you alright Miss Wendy?"
"Yes thanks to you." She said as I put her down "Let's deal with the rest."
Michelle's POV
"Why are we going through the sewer?" I asked Gajeel as we made our way towards the castle "And why couldn't I go with Big Sister."
"Stop complaining!" Gajeel growled.
We came out into a larger pipe room in the drain.
"Castle should be just past here." I told him.
"Move!"
Gajeel pushed me to the ground and out of the path of a few daggers.
"Gajeel!"
His face had surely been punctured by the attack.
"Come on now." The iron man growled cracking the daggers in his teeth "You gotta have something that tastes better than that."
The shadow moved and the man from Rose Garden emerged from the wall.
"You." I said throwing my shield at him "We are not done yet!"
He slipped away to avoid my attack.
"Enough running!" I screamed smashing the wall with my vines "Fight me!"
"Yeesh you're loud in this form." Gajeel laughed.
The assassin shot out from the wall and swung at me with a sword. I blocked it and took my own strike at him, breaking the bottom of his mask. He appeared to have a very sharp chin.
"Your name is Chase correct." I asked as I parried his strikes.
"Yes..." Was all he said swinging at me with his claws.
When he wasn't hiding in the shadows, he was much easier to get a hit in on, I had already left a few holes in his cloak and more of his mask was breaking.
"Take this!" I yelled slamming the hilt of my blade into his face, shattering his mask.
I saw his face, he was starkly handsome with soft yet sharp manly features and long black hair.
"Oh…oh boy…" I shivered
He's hot!
"Uhh…Gajeel you fight him!" I said hiding behind the man.
"Hey wait what?!"
Chase slipped back into the wall and suddenly the shadows were full of doppelgangers. When Gajeel struck the wrong one the real Chase slid down his club and pieced his body from the inside out.
"GAJEEL!"
"Ugh…" Gajeel flexed and broke all the metal on his body "Relax, even my guts are harder than Iron. Now get focused!"
"Y-yeah!" I said readying myself.
Chase slid back into the wall and made more fake shadows.
"If we can't find the real one…WE'LL JUST TEAR UP EVERY SINGLE ONE OF 'EM!" Gajeel yelled.
I threw my saw into the wall and dug into the shadows. I went the opposite direction as Gajeel and before long I caught the real one and chewed up his abdomen.
"Got ya'!" I cheered yanking him out of the wall and slamming him into the ground.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!" Gajeel yelled at me when we started heading towards the castle "Why did you stop fighting."
"I'm sorry…His face was just…"
"Well don't let it happen again." He scolded "Doing something like that could get you killed, we don't want that now do we."
"Keep saying things like that and Levy will get jealous." I giggled.
"Shut up!"
Kanji's POV
When everyone separated at the front gate, I went up to the roofs with Erza. It didn't take us long to get spotted by the Coordinator and Surge.
"So we meet again." Erza said staring the two down.
"It's the Lightning Dragon and Titania." Surge laughed "Come to get burned again?!"
"That thing on your back." I said "It converted my lightning into pure energy, that's why it burned me."
"You're sharp kid!" he yelled "My battery pack can convert different power sources into energy. Your magic is useless against me!"
"It's great to see you again." The woman laughed "I had something I needed to tell you."
"And what is that?" Erza glared changing into her Flame Empress Armor.
"Your taste in clothing is atrocious!"
"What a coincidence." Erza said charging forward "I was going to say the same to you!"
I dashed forward at Surge and shot a bolt at him. Her absorbed it and shot a beam that destroyed a nearby roof. I punched the air but once again my attack was just sucked into his battery. He fired off a barrage of lasers that I was forced to quickly dodge.
"Stop stealing my power!" I snapped.
I bolted forward and grabbed the batons used to absorb my magic. I started just letting out massive watts and filling the pack with energy.
"Get back…Stop that!" Surge said panicking.
"I get it now…you always shoot so quickly, this thing can only hold so much juice!" I smirked "I wonder what will happen if I overload it?"
I kept charging up the battery and Surge was quick to throw it off. There was an explosion that knocked the two of us into the nearby theater.
"My Backpack!" Surge snapped.
"Sshhh. We are at the theater."
I looked around and saw the Coordinator and Erza having a standoff near us. I jumped back towards Erza; her opponent was clearly dressed for the part in the play.
"I'll play along." Erza said Re-quipping into something else.
When the light cleared, I was stunned…she looked amazing. They say it's bad luck for the groom to see the bride in her dress before the wedding but Erza looked perfect.
Soon…just a few more days.
Surge pulled out an axe that also looked like some kind of electric guitar.
"I would much rather be slicing a cake but I suppose you will have to do." Erza told them.
"How ridiculous." Coordinator flicked her wrist "Huh?"
"What's wrong?" Surge asked "Make it disappear."
"I can't undo her re-quip…Impossible!"
"Never underestimate the will of a bride!" Erza yelled rushing ahead.
I dashed forward with Erza as she cut down her opponent and I blasted Surge away.
"BLEH!" "UGH!"
The two fell to the floor defeated.
"It's like your Bride form wouldn't take no for an answer…You two must be desperate to get married…ugh…" The Coordinator groaned passing out.
"What no!"
"Wait you're not?!" I said.
"No I am I mean…AHH! Don't look at me!" Erza cried "Get out of here I don't want you seeing my dress."
Erza forced me out into the street.
"You look great by the way!" I yelled out "Guess I should find the others."
Some Time Later.
By the time I had regrouped with the others a huge hulking metal creature was rampaging around the center of town.
"That thing is the Phoenix." I mumbled.
It didn't take me long to find the others, everyone except for Lucy, Natsu and Erza had met back up and were helping to protect the town. We attempted to deal with the monster but nothing was really slowing it down.
"Where the hell is Erza right now?!" Gray snapped.
"I don't know!" I said throwing a halberd at the monster.
Natsu was on top of the beast battling Dyst but he seemed to be at a disadvantage.
"That's Natsu." Gray commented when we saw a plume of fire appear above the Phoenix.
"He needs to get closer." I added.
There was a small breeze and I saw Bickslow's doll fly passed.
"Let's Rock Babies!"
Bickslow blasted the foot of the bird making it stumble briefly.
"Fairy Machinegun: Leprechaun!" Ever added her attack to the mix.
"Dark Ecriture: Slice!"
Freed's attack broke the ground and provided the room for one last blast to knock the beast into a crater.
"Come on Natsu!" Laxus yelled "Show him what a Fairy Tail Wizard can do!"
The rocking of the beast gave Natsu the opening he needed to defeat Dyst.
"He did it!" Scruff cheered.
"Yeah but we still gotta deal with that Firebird…" I mumbled.
"What are we gonna do?" Wendy whimpered.
"Same thing we always do." Cana said letting us know she was there "Work together to destroy that thing."
It seemed like our backup had finally arrived; Cana, Mira, Elfman, Alzack, Bisca, Macao, Wakaba and Lauren had come to provide assistance.
"We decided to screw the small team idea." Macao said.
"I got bored sitting around." Lauren joked "So why don't we get to breaking that thing apart."
We all split up and started to attack the monster.
"Sun Dragon Arrowhead Kick!" Lauren plummeted from the Sky and kicked the Phoenix in the head.
"Gray!" I yelled putting my fist in his hand "Let's do it!"
"Ice Make…"
"Lightning Dragon's Hammer…"
"Mjolnir!"
A giant ice hammer covered in lighting smashed into the skull of the bird. It was quickly blasted away by a different bolt of lightning.
"Are you trying to upstage me?!" I yelled up at Laxus.
"Ha!" Laxus snickered.
We hit the monster with a few more attacks before it began to charge up for a big attack, and subsequently suck the magic right out from us.
"This is bad…" I hissed.
There was a streak in the sky and an arrow lodged itself in the Phoenix's eye.
Erza?
It didn't seem to matter because the shot still went off. Natsu had to climb up and force the arrow all the way in. When the Monster finally began to crumble away the magic power it had taken started to dissipate.
"We won…" Scruff said "But…"
"Something feels off." I said finishing his thought.
Suddenly a flame of the guild's symbol appeared in the sky. That's when I heard the voice…that damn bird was thanking us for our help.
"It couldn't have…" I said stunned.
"It did." Kage said stepping out of the shadows "This was the only way…"
"Shit…" Gajeel grumbled.
Once we all got regrouped the mood turned pretty sour. The only sounds were shifting rubble and the soft sobs coming from Wendy and Lucy. No matter what Michelle tried Lucy was in no condition to calm down.
"I didn't know…She'd die too…" Erza said.
"Hey" I gave her a hug "You did nothing wrong."
"Please Big Sister." Michelle said rubbing Lucy's back "It will be okay…"
I want to help her…but I don't know what to say…
Once Natsu walked up, Lucy only seemed to get worse.
"Does…Does magic only cause sadness?" Lucy asked him "Because if magic is what made me cry…"
Lucy trudged forward and slumped onto Natsu.
"…There has to be magic to make me stop crying too…"
"WWWAAAHHHH!"
Lucy cried into Natsu's shoulder while he reassured her that Éclair was happy until the very end. We all waited till Lucy was ready to go. She was the one who had been affected the most so when she was ready we all headed back home.
"We have a guild hall to fix…again." Kage whined.
Lucy was pretty quiet on the walk back to the train home. I went up to her and put an arm around her shoulder and smiled.
All I did was nod "It'll be okay."
She gave me a small smile "Thank you."
When we got on the train I laid my head on Erza's shoulder to relax. Mira and Lauren shared our benches. The girls discussed the plans for the upcoming wedding and I was left with my thoughts.
Those tears…I hate seeing someone shed them, tears of loss…Lucy…
