A short story based on S08E20 "The Fortification Implementation"

"I want to say no, but it's too glorious. Get in here."

Leonard ducked his head and started going inside the Fort "Wow guys, you were right, it is cozy in here. You both did a great job!" Leonard said truly impressed with Sheldon and Amy's Fort.

He was really tired and exhausted from that misunderstanding with Penny but he found himself smiling over Sheldon and Amy's enthusiasm. Sometimes, he envies them because of their similarities and ability to communicate with each other.

"Not only that, look here!" Sheldon pulled the cover of the shelf beside him "We have a Physics lending library! Cool huh?" He continued. While Amy was watching them grinning with excitement.

"Well as much as I want to hang out with you guys, I think I'm going to head to bed. I'm exhausted." Leonard made a move to stand. Amy picked up a hint of sadness from his voice and asked "Is everything okay? You seem sad."

Leonard was taken aback by Amy's observation. "Err. I guess. It's just Penny and I had a bit of misunderstanding but I think it's all good." Amy placed her hand on Leonard's arm and asked "Are you okay? Is Penny okay?" Amy asked with a hint of worry in her voice. Sheldon was just watching the exchange between the two. Silently admiring Amy's sensitivity to other's emotions.

"We'll be fine, we'll talk tomorrow. Maybe we're just both tired because it's really late." Leonard paused and realized something "Hey. you kids are up late? What happened to Date Night Parameters" Leonard ask changing the subject.

He grinned at his best friend waiting for his answer. Amy once again picked up Leonard's teasing tone and blushed deeply. She didn't want to answer. Would it look like she was manipulating Sheldon? All she did was suggest a sleepover, nothing more.

She was about to answer but Sheldon beat her to it. "Oh, Amy's sleeping over. We're staying here in our Cozy McBlanket. Sorry, I didn't inform you beforehand but it was kind of a spur of the moment thing." Sheldon spoke casually about it like it's second nature to them to have sleep overs. Amy looked at Leonard hopeful, the pink hues in her cheeks still evident. "I hope it's okay?" Leonard smiled at Amy and began to stand up to leave the fort, before he disappeared, he looked back and said "Anytime, Amy!"

He ducked his head one last time, grinned at Sheldon and said "Spur of the moment, you dawg!"

Amy's eyes went wide and gaped at Leonard but Sheldon just shrugged his shoulder not acknowledging it.

The couple decided it is time for bed and took turns with their nightly ablutions. After Amy came out from the shower, Sheldon handed him a robe and said "I already brought the pillow and other blankets inside the fort. Amy nodded, she looked at the robe and asked "what is this for?" Sheldon is already holding another robe in his hand so she doubts he will use another one. "Oh, that's for you. I assumed you don't have a robe in your emergency kit. You can use mine. I don't want Leonard to see you in your nightgown when we have breakfast tomorrow. Amy was taken aback and only mumbled a "thank you" before Sheldon disappeared to take a shower. Sleep over and breakfast? She couldn't but help but swoon over the idea. That is so romantic, she thought. She can't wait to tell Penny!

Suddenly, she remembered her bestie. She fired a quick text checking in on her with a promise she'll come by tomorrow to talk. Another thought suddenly crossed her mind. Living across her bestie sounds wonderful; Wonderful because that would entail that she will be living with her boyfriend. She smiled at the thought but immediately chastised herself for thinking about it. She promised herself not to push Sheldon again so she avoided thoughts like this because she might push him again without even realizing it.

Sheldon emerged from the shower looking very clean and fresh, she was immediately bombarded with that familiar scent of talc she always associates with him. Amy on her end was thankful for her preparedness; she was able to put some shower gel in her emergency overnight kit because she thought she should smell nice in case they will be sleeping in close proximity. Little did Amy know; Sheldon was struggling on his own the minute Amy walked out of the shower sans glasses and make up. She looked so clean and smelled so good. "Would you like anything else before we sleep?" Sheldon asked. Amy smiled because of his thoughtfulness "I'm all good. Shall we go in?" Sheldon opened the side so Amy could go in, he followed her swiftly. Amy went to sit at the single sofa blinking on the sight before her eyes.

Sheldon made a make shift bed, good enough for two. She was surprised because she assumed Sheldon would want them to sleep in a separate bed. Amy tried to open her mouth to ask Sheldon where why there's only one makeshift bed but the words never came out. She just stared at it and Sheldon moved past her, sitting on what looks like a very cozy bed. "Do you mind if we share this makeshift bed? This is more comfortable than the couch." Sheldon said. Thankfully, Amy was able to snap out of her trance and said "O..okay. Are you sure? I don't want you to feel uncomfortable." Amy asked as she moved closer to the bed. "Not at all, come sit here!" an excitement evident from Sheldon's voice. Amy was trembling, she did not expect this is how her night will end – sharing a bed with her boyfriend. They were both lying down watching the lights around their fort and admiring the view. "It is more beautiful when looking at it at this level, I feel like I'm looking at the stars!" Amy said beaming. Sheldon responded with a big grin and said "I know! This is really fascinating. I never had so much fun in a long time. Thank you for doing this, Amy." Sheldon said, now facing Amy. Amy made a move to face Sheldon; she placed her left hand on his right cheek and said "I'm glad. You're welcome Sheldon." Shocked by her boldness, she retracted her hand immediately.

"Uh..is it safe to sleep under these lights? Aren't we going to get electrocuted from these?" Amy asked averting her eyes and changing the subject. Sheldon's eyes never left Amy's face, it made Amy more nervous. She doesn't understand how is Sheldon taking all of these sudden changes, not to mention their proximity at the moment. "I will turn them off in a minute." Sheldon said still not averting his gaze. Amy gulped and just nodded, still staring at the lights.

"Amy" Sheldon said huskily. "Hmm?" Amy looked at Sheldon, fascinated by the intensity of his gaze. "It's date night. I'd like to kiss you now." Amy was so sure her eyes were as wide as saucer now, she faced her boyfriend and only managed to whisper "okay" before Sheldon closed in the gap between them. They kissed for what is like minutes? Hours? None of them could tell. Sheldon pulled back and when Amy opened her eyes, she saw how his pupils became dark. She was certain both of them are blushing now. Amy smiled and said "I'm sorry you did not get invited to that party. I actually feel sorry for them because they didn't get to experience your brilliance. Thank you for making this date night perfect. I love you." Suddenly, she realized what she just said, she was about to say something to downplay the vehemence of the moment but Sheldon beat her to it when he responded "I love you." She couldn't tell what it was exactly but the was he said it really made her heart almost jumped out of her chest. He said it with so much conviction. Amy smiled softly and whispered good night before turning away from Sheldon. She doesn't think she can survive any more minute under his gaze. Suddenly, she felt Sheldon's hands reach for her waist and she was pulled closely to his body. "I hope this is alright?" Sheldon whispered and she felt goosebumps all over her body. This is just better that what she has imagined. Sighing deeply, Amy placed her hand over Sheldon's hand and said "It's more than alright." The couple fell asleep a few minutes after that, both surrendering to the best good night sleep they could ever have.

Hey my darling friends! I'm so sorry if this again was messy and all over the place. I had this idea for years and the other day while I was in line for a swab test, while I was scrolling through my phone, I found the draft I made few years ago. I made sure to finish this because I will again be very busy in the upcoming months. But I will still be on Instagram for sure. Anyway, I hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy. I cannot believe we are still on quarantine at this time of the year. It's actually my birthday today, (August 31st) but I am spending it alone at my place, I haven't been home to my family in months because of the quarantine and the nature of my work. I just hope this pandemic ends soon. Don't you miss hugging people? Because I do. 🙁
