In the beginning of the world, the creator created the Sirens and Humanity. The Sirens were beings of unimaginable abilities, they alone wiped most of humanity to the point that years later only ten percent of the world was made up of humans. Why? Well, Sirens lived by the concept of evolution through combat and so they fought many wars with man just to move their own lives forward. This cycle continued for years until one day, the Sirens for some unknown reason, decided to give life to the warships made by humans, this was the start of man and ship co-existing in the world.
With these human ships by humanity's side, there was hope. They defended the world from the Sirens, and through this endeavour the alliance of Azur Lane was formed.
Eagle Union, Royal Navy, Ironblood and Sakura Empire, were the four biggest members of this unity, but there were many more from all over the world. Every country played a part in defending the Earth from the Sirens, and for what seemed like a long time the defences of the humans were working.
But not everything lasts forever...
Within Azur Lane, the factions of the Sakura Empire and Ironblood decided to use the technology of the Sirens as a way to defend humanity and this created a rift between everyone. This then led to Ironblood along with the Sakura Empire to create the Red Axis.
Their philosophy? The future of mankind can only be saved by serving the Sirens and using their powers to grow.
Conflict after conflict, both sides destroyed each other in the form of a world war. In order to prevent any more chaos to ensue, humanity sent Commander Felix Regis to help unite Azur Lane once again to battle the Sirens, their true enemy.
Through hard work and time, Felix Regis managed to unite all of the factions and with their combined strength pushed the Sirens back, achieving peace for years to come.
Years later, Felix Regis grew old, had a family and had now passed on his duty as commander to his granddaughter, Azure Regis, at the ripe age of 20. Unlike her grandfather though, Azure had not met the Sirens, and her role as commander was not to lead Azur Lane into battle against the alienoid beings; her role was to oversee the shipgirls and send them to help humans around the world.
"Commander. Laffey, Indianapolis, Portland and Hornet have returned." the shipgirl named Fletcher informed. Fletcher, as her name suggests, is from the Fletcher class ships made by Eagle Union. As a human Fletcher has faded orange hair, tied into a long ponytail, maintained by a brown and yellow bow, she also sports a white sailor outfit with blue accents and a pair of green glasses.
"Thank you Fletcher." Azure replied, taking a small pile of papers from the shipgirl's hands, then dismissing the ship from her role. It was customary that the shipgirls were to write a report regarding their missions, this task usually fell to the leading ship of that particular mission.
Scanning the report, Azure was glad that no problems surfaced during the task that she sent the ships to do. Once she was happy with the results, the female commander returned to her work with the computer: which was the task of managing the oil supply, the money they were gaining and losing; as well as the ships that were out on missions and the ones who required more rest.
Typing away on her keyboard, plus the occasional moving of her onyx hair, Azure's concentration was fixated on her laptop to the point she had forgotten the time. It was mostly silent in her cream coloured office, it was only her at that moment. Though from time to time the breath of the wind was audible enough when it had entered the room.
However this tranquility didn't last long when the two dark oak doors opened, making the female commander lift her head from the computer screen.
Walking in, an elderly man with short white hair and wrinkly face walked his way into the office with a silver cane supporting him, a gentle smile painted on his face. Immediately the commander's face lit up, she quickly stood up from her seat, then quickly made her way to the old man.
"Grandfather." She greeted happily, hugging the elderly man.
"Oh my dear girl, how are you?" the now old Felix Regis replied, hugging his granddaughter with his free arm.
"Wonderful, are the others with you?" Felix chuckled, as he and Azure walked to one of the sofas in the middle of the office where he sat to explain to the commander of their family's whereabouts.
"Well yes, your father is on his way. As for your brother, well… he seemed to be quite curious about the home port so he came early and went off to go exploring, or something around those lines."
A sigh escaped Azure's lips, which did not go unnoticed by Felix, "I just hope he is alright, the home port is large. What if he gets lost?"
"Nonsense, Belfast came here with him. If anyone can bring him back, then it'll be Belfast." the old man interjected confidently, assuring the younger girl with his words. "That said I have come here to discuss something with you." Felix said seriously, his tone dropping its cheerfulness.
"There has been some talk within the World Union about seeing some unknown signals appearing near coasts." The old man took some photos out of his pocket and placed them on the table.
Looking at the pictures, Azure saw the blurry shadows that were caught. It wasn't clear but she could make out what she assumed was a shipgirl with their gear on.
"Nobody knows who this could be, but there has been some talk that this could be the return of a grave threat to the world… the Sirens." chills went down the female commanders spine when her grandfather spoke the last two words. She had heard about the Sirens from childhood stories told to her by him, though since her grandfather had pushed them back, she was under the impression that they would never return.
"If they have returned, Azur Lane must be prepared to defend the seas once again. I fear that ever since we have stopped operations regarding pure combat and have moved into more escort type missions, the girls may have gotten rusty." Felix then went on to admit that the only reason why he stopped the girls from fighting in wars, was because he was conscious that they would end up having to bear large burdens throughout their lives.
"I will ensure that everyone here will be ready for any attacks grandfather. I promise." Azure stated with conviction.
Her grandfather gave her a small smile and a nod, indicating that she had his utmost trust regarding the situation.
In another part of the home port, a young man with short, messy onyx coloured hair was sitting on the edge of the docks, scribbling away on a notebook. This young man was the brother of Azure Regis, Emir Regis.
Behind Emir was a woman with white hair, wearing a maid outfit. She was peering over his shoulder watching the image be completed. Her name was Belfast, a ship of the English Royal Navy and was the Regis family's personal maid.
"What is that you are drawing, young master?" the maid asked, her eyes travelling to the young man beside her.
"Huh? Oh just some scribbles for ships." Emir answered, he then showed Belfast his drawing. It was a blueprint of a ship broken down into different parts, the top, middle and bottom of the ship as well as the types of guns and other parts that it could possibly be fitted with.
Although her face did not show it, Belfast was impressed. It was a detailed blueprint that can actually be used to make the ship in his drawing. The blueprint was then suddenly ripped away from her eyes, which drew her attention back to Emir.
"Don't you want to visit your sister Belfast?" Emir asked in a curious tone. "I'm sure that you'd rather spend time with the other ships of the Royal Navy than with me."
Though she didn't expect it, Belfast managed to keep her composure and answered with her dignified aura still intact, "I am sure that there will be opportunities to see my sister, Edinburgh as well as the others. My current task is to look after you, young master."
Emir mentally sighed, he was glad to have Belfast by his side, but she had been away from the port for a long time. Rather than tending to his needs, she could be visiting her sister; whom she had not seen for years. Looking back at the woman who showed little emotion, apart from that who was ready to take orders, Emir thought that the maid should really relax a little. So, rather than pondering about it, he opted to take Belfast to where her sister was, he wasn't sure where, but since he was there to be with family; so should she.
So Emir told Belfast to follow him which was the easy part since Belfast's loyalty was steadfast, she would follow orders from the Regis family with little to no hesitancy. The two made their way around the home port next; in the back of his head Emir knew that Belfast may have caught on to his plan, though her pride as a maid prevented her from calling him out on it.
Though that actually wasn't the case at all. The maid just enjoyed the effort her young master was putting towards her own personal agenda.
By the time they had gone everywhere in the home port, it was already dusk and Emir had now lost all of his energy to move another step.
"Where in the world could Edinburgh be?!" Emir wondered. His attention was then gained by the maid who called for his attention.
"You seem tired, why don't we go to the cafeteria and get you something to drink." Emir would have loved to refuse so that they could keep looking for Belfast's sister, but with no energy in him, there was no point.
Accepting the older female's invitation, Emir and Belfast made their way to the cafeteria where the young man was served tea by the shipgirl. He tried to invite Belfast to join him, however she enforced that as a maid she should not be joining her master. Emir sighed once again, he never once saw Belfast as his personal maid, for him Belfast was like a loving mother.
"Bel?" a voice called out making the maid turn around.
From afar another white haired lady, wearing a similar maid outfit, but shorter with glasses on her face, was looking at Belfast.
"Oh dear sister-" before her greeting could even be finished, the other maid rushed to Belfast's side and engulfed her into a bear hug, all the while crying her eyes out.
Smiling at the gesture, Belfast gently hugged her sister back, "It is good to see you Edinburgh." she lovingly whispered into the other girl's ear who then responded with a small whine.
Meanwhile Emir who was watching the two, had a small thought cross his mind.
"How lucky, I was gonna keep looking for her till night."
After the two had bonded, Belfast introduced Edinburgh to Emir, the younger maid was then about to tend to her young master again, but Emir wanted the two sisters to spend some time with each other. He kindly ordered that she should stop looking after him for the rest of the evening since he wanted some time on his own. Belfast wasn't very thrilled with the idea of leaving, however as his servant she had no choice but comply.
Emir left the two Edinburgh ships to their own devices while he went for another walk around the home port.
With the sinking sunset in the distance, Emir watched as the azure lanes turned orange and gold under the same coloured sky. A smile crept unto the young man's face as he sat on the docks and felt the sea breeze brush past his skin.
In his thoughts, Emir began to imagine himself living in the home port of Azur Lane. He loved the sea, for him it was like a large jewel that never lost its shine; even though he was aware that it is also a dangerous place, his love for the sea never once wavered. His hobby of drawing ships was also a reflection of this, his dream was to see what the sea had hidden from the world.
Because he was so deep into dreaming about the sea, Emir didn't notice that someone had walked up behind him and was calling him.
"Young man." the voice called, though it was still faded in the ears of Emir. Once again he was called this time louder.
"Young man!" this time the boy did hear it, so turning around the young man saw the face of a girl with flaming red eyes and was wearing a red kimono suit. "Hello there."
Emir quickly realised he was staring, panicking the flustered boy promptly introduced himself as to not look anymore foolish than he already was. When he had finished his messy introduction, he heard the girl giggle at his performance.
"It is nice to finally meet you. I am Akagi an-"
" An aircraft carrier of the Sakura Empire?!" Emir cut off, surprising the older woman.
"It seems you've done your homework." she teased making Emir feel self conscious.
"Well, I love reading about warships, since my grandfather was the commander of Azur Lane and my sister is the current commander." the boy confessed while rubbing the back of his head and then forcing a laugh.
Akagi merely stared at him with a smile before turning around and walked away, leaving Emir confused about the whole interaction. His only conclusion being she wanted to present herself to him.
"Wait did she say 'finally'?"
Returning to Azure and Felix, the two were still discussing the return of the Sirens. When suddenly, they heard a loud whistling before an explosion came from nowhere.
The port's klaxons wailed, alerting everyone of an attack. Many of the shipgirls rushed outside only to see the smoke that was coming from the direction of the commander's office.
"What happened?!"
"An attack?!"
"Tell everyone to stay alert and arm themselves!"
"Someone also go to the commander and see if she's alright."
"Everyone move now!"
All the shipgirls then scampered around, everyone going to either pickup gear to defend the home port or to go to where their commander was to ensure her safety.
Meanwhile Azure and Felix were recovering from the unforeseen attack, their vision blurry from the shock. Azure called out to her grandfather in order to ensure that he was alright, when he had answered back she gave out a sigh of relief before attempting to stand on her own two feet.
"Well it seems that you've gotten old, Felix Regis." an unknown voice said.
From within the smoke a young girl with silver hair and golden eyes appeared, she wore the top of a sailor but it was paired with black shorts and torn leggings.
"Purifier." Felix growled.
Outside Emir heard the sirens and saw the panic that had ensued, he was about to rush to the office when in the corner of his eye he saw something in the horizon. Squinting his eyes, Emir saw a fleet of ships, but unlike the ships that he was familiar with, these ones were painted black with glowing red cracks running across the sides of the ship.
"Are those, Sirens?"
Hello everyone, if this is your first time reading one of my stories then welcome to my library.
I have been excited to release this story ever since I began to play the game a couple of months ago. That said, since I am somewhat new to the game, there could be a couple of mistakes here and there, to which all of you are welcome to point out. However I hope its not too out of character since I have done research on the ships and how they act. (Thank you wiki, anime and voice lines)
As for the chronology, I'm not too sure about it, since I skip the cutscenes however I found summary in reddit of the events so I based the backstory off what I read there. Again if there are mistakes feel free to tell me in the comments.
I hope you all enjoyed the first chapter, feel free to tell me all your thoughts and opinions. Criticism is also very welcome, so don't be afraid to give me a rant because I will read it.
That's it for now, thank you so much for reading the first chapter and I wish to see you all in the next chapter :)
