James twisted a piece of Lily's hair around his finger, his eyes fixated on her. She was gorgeous. Her red hair was strewn across his lap, her eyes were closed, and a faint smile was playing on her lips. The common room was quiet aside from soft music playing from the record player in the corner. The firelight danced across Lily's face, making it glow.
Lily opened her eyes — they were the prettiest shade of green! Merlin she was gorgeous!
Her lips twitched at the stupid grin on his face. She sat up and before James could make a disappointed noise she kissed him. When they finally broke apart they were both grinning like fools.
"I can't believe I'm doing this," James breathed.
"Doing what?" Lily questioned.
"Kissing Lily Evans," James said, leaning in to kiss her again. "I never thought this day would come."
"That makes two of us," Lily teased. "I mean — Potter of all people? If you told me that this day would come two years ago I would have laughed in your face." She paused. "Actually, I did. A lot."
James let out a hearty laugh before standing out and holding out his hand to Lily. "Dance with me, Evans?" he asked with a sheepish grin.
Lily happily took his hand, allowing him to pull her to her feet. The music and the fire created the perfect atmosphere. James pulled her against and they started slow dancing to the music before spinning and dancing around. This continued for a minute before James tried to dip Lily. She shrieked in shock startling him enough that he lost his grip and dropped her before promptly dropping to his knees next to her apologizing while she laughed until she couldn't breathe. "Idiot," Lily managed through her laughter.
"I know," James groaned, pushing his glasses back up his nose.
"Bet I could do better than that." Lily held her hand out to him. "Help me up." In one fluid motion James pulled Lily to her feet.
"I'd like to see you try," he challenged, allowing a stupid grin to fill his face.
Lily pursed her lips and twirled him around once before dipping him, fighting to keep from dropping him. As soon as he was back firmly on his feet he pressed his lips tightly to Lily's.
Laughter interrupted them a few minutes into their make out session and they spun around to see Remus and Peter sitting on the closest couch, a black dog sprawled in between them.
"Really?" James asked annoyed. "No. Go!"
"Gosh fine," Remus said standing up, but it was too late, the damage was done.
Lily crouched down by Sirius. "Who's a good boy?" She held her hand out for him to sniff, then started petting behind his ears. "What's his name?"
"Snuffles," Remus said, smirking. "He likes to hang around a lot."
"Is he one of yours?" Lily asked, scratching under his chin. Sirius/Snuffles happily barked, leaning into her hand. Lily glanced up waiting for an answer to her question and noticed James cross look. "Aww how adorable, you're jealous of a dog!"
"Can you blame me?" James glared at him venomously. "Can you guys go away?" James demanded. They all ignored him, watching Lily continue to scratch Padfoot's ears. "And take Snuffles with you."
Padfoot decided that right then would be the perfect time to antagonise James further. He climbed into Lily's lap and licked her cheek. It worked, James has had enough.
"I'm exhausted," James announced, fuming. "I'm going to go to bed. Come on, Snuffles."
"Really babe?" Lily rolled her eyes at him. "Stop being jealous of Snuffles and come sit with me."
"I dunno, you seem to like him more than me. He even kissed you," he added, throwing extra venom into the words to let Sirius know just how much trouble he would be in later.
"You're mad cause a dog licked me?" Lily asked before breaking into hysterical laughter. "Wow — you really are the jealous type," she forced out around the laughter. She stood up and walked over to him kissing him on the cheek — earning a few whistles from Remus and Peter — before sitting down in an armchair right by the fire.
"Come here Snuffles," she called parting her lap.
James scowled as Sirius went and jumped up on Lily's lap turning around a few times before settling down and allowing her to pet him.
"Come on Lily, I was having a good time," James said trying to distract her from Sirius.
"Come sit with us," Lily suggested patting next to her.
"Yeah go sit with them Jamie," Peter chuckled.
James scowled and gave him the finger, but obliged. He leaned in close to Sirius on the pretext of scratching his ear. "Fuck you," he muttered.
Sirius just happily licked his ear.
"Dude!" James said, wiping fiercely at it.
Lily laughed at James' scowl. "You really aren't a dog person, are you?"
"Cats are much cuter. Also, this dog is an asshole!" James declared.
"Uh huh," Lily agreed. "You are sooo cute."
James perked up a bit. "You think?"
"You get jealous of a dog," Lily said, grinning. "What could be cuter than that?" She pushed herself up so she could reach James' face and kissed him.
He kissed her back but after about ten seconds Sirius got bored and pushed his face in between the two.
James scowled and fake yawned. "I'm getting tired, mind if I head up to bed?"
"Sure, we have to be up early tomorrow."
They both stood up.
"Night James." She gave him a last kiss.
"Goodnight Lily." he turned to Sirius. "Come on, Snuffles."
Padfoot whined and planted himself firmly on the chair. James just raised an eyebrow. "Wingarden Levioso," he said pointing his wand at Padfoot who barked frantically as he floated up. Remus and Peter followed them up the boys staircase cracking up and calling goodnights to Lily. He levitated Sirius all the way up to the dorm before setting him not to gently on the ground. Sirius transformed back as soon as he hit the floor.
"Ow Prongs! Not nice."
"Really! You just couldn't resist!" James threw up his hands in exasperation. "And you kissed my girlfriend!"
Sirius just grinned at his best friend. "Honestly, I think she might like me more than you, mate."
He got hit directly in the face with a pillow.
