The next day, Shaun and I ran into the lunch room to talk to Cory, because Shaun spotted his mom the other day,
"I don't know, Shaun. How long do you think its been?" Cory said
"A minute. I saw my mom, Cory. She was right across the street at the Trailer View Motel. She was looking through her window at our trailer. Cory, my mom's back."
After school, Cory, Shaun, and I went to talk to Shaun's father.
"You're telling me for the last year I've trapped across these her United Staes searching for my long lost Virna, and you find her across the highway?"
"It's her, dad. She's been watching us."
"Well, how long she been there? How she look? When she coming home?"
"I don't know. I haven't gone over there yet."
"Why not?"
"I'm afraid I'm gonna chase her away again"
I rubbed Shaun's back, trying to comfort him.
"You didn't chase her away. You're the only reason she stayed here as long as she did."
"Thanks, dad."
"Why's she over there spying on us? Hey. She's probably after my secret plans."
"What secret plans?" Cory asked
"Nice try, Corky."
"Guys, lets talk. You've been looking for this women for a year, and now you've found her. Now go get her before she leaves again," Cory said
"No, no. It's like some beautiful butterfly sat down just for a moment on the branch next to ya. And you know if you so much as breathe wrong, it'll fly away and you'll never see it again," Shaun's father said
"This is a real delicate situation. What we need is someone who won't be thought of as a threat," Shaun said
The three of us turned to Cory, who was looking at a butterfly on his finger.
"Hello. Hello."
He then looked up.
"What?"
We explained the plan to him and sent him off across the highway to the motel.
(Cory's POV)
"Come on in, Cory. I've been expecting you."
"Really?" I asked, entering the room
"I saw you through the window crossing the turmpike."
"Then you know how lucky I am to be alive."
"It's nice to see you, Cory."
"It's nice to see you, too."
"You're growing up real handsome."
"Uh, thanks. Look, I'm just here to tell you on behalf of them-couple of chickens- that they miss you. They miss you very much."
"Yeah, well, I miss them, too."
"Well, if they miss you, and you miss them, then why aren't you guys together?"
"Well, I suppose I could just go over there, and we'd all have ourselves a big emotional reunion. We'd hug and kiss and five minutes would go by, and then where would we be?"
"Well, you'd be a family."
"No, we'd just be together. I left because we wer three unhappy people living under the same tin roof. Just beacuse you're married doesn't make you a good husband and wife. And just havin' a little boy doesn't make you a good father and mother."
"Yeah, I guess you have to wanna be."
"I know I have no right to hope for anything because I left my family, but in that time, I learned that all I wanna be is a good wife and a good mother. But I need to know that Chet wants to be a good father, too."
"Ok then. I'll just go back and tell them that."
"It doesn't help comin' from you, but for my family, I need to see it happen in its own time."
"Well, how long are you gonna wait here?"
"You're a good boy for bein' their little messenger, and if you wanna take back a message, go tell Shaun I love him. And you give him a big kiss right on the lips for me."
"I think that more his girlfriends job, but I'll certainly do some version of that."
I then walked back to the traillor.
(Eliza's POV)
Shaun, Chet, and I were sitting at the table when Cory ran in.
"Eight lanes and not one stinkin' island. Ya gotta be moses to get across that highway."
"Well, Moses, is she in, or is she out?" Chet asked
"Look, the only thing I can tell you guys is she's gonna be watching you from right where she is."
"That's creepy. And somewhat exciting," Chet said
"So, what do we do now, dad?"
"Guess we stand next to the window and try to look appealing."
The next night, I sat in Shaun's trailor, listening to the discussion about Shaun's mom and also the letters she sent. You know, sometimes I wish I had that.
Laer that day, Cory came over as we were looking at family photos.
"Does your girlfriend have as many cute baby pictures as you do?" Chet siad
I knew that he didn't know about my past, but I wish he didn't bring it up at this very moment.
"No...not those kinds of pictures," I frowned
Vierna ended up checking out of the motel, and we heard a nock at the door. Chet went to ansewer it. It ended up being Vierna.
"Can I come in?"
Vierna ended up deciding to stay, although I wasn't sure if it was a permanent thing.
The next day, we were getting ready to talk about another presidential election.
"And this will be the last presidentail election in which you do not cast a ballet. I want this classroom to be an p[en forum to discuss the issues that most concern your lives. Mr. Hunter, what issue most concerns your life?"
"The swimsuit issue...How am I doin'?"
"Boffo, Mr. Hunter. Mr. Mathews?"
"Yes. Actually, there is a pressing social matter which I feel equipped to discuss with confidence and alacrity."
"Oh, well then you have the floor, Mr. Mathews."
"Nah, that used me up."
"Can either Ms. Rogers or Ms. Lawrence save us?"
Topanganga ended up contributing.
"First of all, I'd just like to say that I think Cory's really cute for tyring."
"Oh, thank you, sugar."
"And that I think the biggest crisis facing this country is the breakdown of the American family."
"Oh, you always gotta go after Shawn," Shawn stressed
"I just think that lots of other issues, like crime and the decline in education-"
"Hey, hey! Lay off me," Shawn said
"All have to with how we're brought up in our homes."
"Well, now, I agree with you, Miss Lawrence."
"I agree, but not in the way you'd think," I siad
"Would you like to elaborate on that, Ms. Rogers."
"Ok. Well, I don't think that the people you grow up with shape the way that your persoallity is. Example is me. My step parents, or ophanage parents, were terrible. They were bad people to me. Although, I think that shaped me into who I am today beacuse there are some things that I've...well, there are some things that have changed my life, and not always for the better."
"Thank you, Ms. Rogers. You make an excellent point."
It was Friday night, and I was going over to Shaun's house. On the way there, Paul attacked me. I then ran as quickly as possible to Shaun's house.
(Shaun's POV)
I was getting worried because Joe was supposed to be here over an hour ago. Just then, I heard a knock at the door. I opened it and saw Joe standing there. I looked at her closely and saw that mascara and tears were running down her face, her dress was all ripped up, and her pants were all dirty.
"God, Joe, what happened?" I said, hugging her
"Paul...he found me...he hurt me."
"Oh, God, I'm so sorry, Joe"
"No, it wasn't your fault."
"Thanks...Hey, why don't you go and take a shower and then we can talk."
"Okay."
