Kanji's POV

"So…what do you want me to call you?" I asked as we walked down a dark staircase "Mest or Doranbolt?"

"Mest is fine." He said "That is my real name."

"So where are we going?" Erza asked.

We were taking this dark staircase under the guild, to some room.

"This place feels familiar…" I sighed "I think I snuck down here once when I was a kid, Gramps got pissed."

After making his presence known to the guild Mest requested that I come with him to this basement like cavern. I didn't question him, maybe he wanted to talk in private, that was fine by me. I left Ellie with Erza and walked off with the man. I wasn't sure why but I had a feeling I should trust him on this, he had helped us in the past with the Dragons and with Tartarus, so the least I could do was here him out for a bit. Sides I'm the Master now…so I guess I have to listen to my members problems if they ask.

"The area beyond here is restricted." Mest said as we approach a set of huge doors.

You save stuff this size for something special…

"This place is for the Master's eyes only, I shouldn't even be here but this time the circumstances are special." He said forcing the door open.

A light bled out, it was blinding and took a moment to dissipate.

"What the fuck." I mumbled.

Inside that room filled with light was a crystal…and inside that crystal was a body, the body of Master Mavis.

"This is the guild's greatest secret." Mest explained "This is Lumen Histoire."

"Lumen Histoire, so this is that thing Dad wanted." I mumbled.

"HUH?! GAH! OWCH!"

I turned around and growled "What are you all doing here?"

"I told you this place was for Guild Masters only." Mest grumbled.

"This was supposed to be my moment!" I snapped "You guys came and ruined it."

I looked back and saw the rest of my team stumbling out.

"Well since you disobeyed the Master's order I'll just have to kill all of you know to keep the secret." I shrugged.

"No." Erza said smacking my head.

"I was kidding." I laughed.

Natsu, Lucy, Gray, Michelle, Wendy and the Cats had snuck in behind us to snoop, Erza came too but I wasn't really angry at her.

"That's not fair let us see too!" Natsu whined.

"What are you five?" I groaned "You don't get to be privy to everything in the world all the time."

"Is that…?" Wendy tilted her head "The First Master?"

"She's naked!" Natsu yelled as Lucy covered his eyes.

"No staring." The blonde said.

"This does make sense though." I nodded "Ghosts don't really pop up all that often, I mean how come the rest of us never saw ghosts important to us, people like Simon, or Lucy and I's mothers, Ur…the Mavis we know must be a thought form, it's the only explanation."

"How about we let Mest explain." Erza suggested.

"I don't quite know myself." He sighed "I just know that she's here for an important reason."

"Still where's the old man!" Natsu yelled.

"No yelling." Lucy sighed.

"Ha!"

"These are my memories." Mest said "They will tell you everything you need to know."

My head was full of pictures, images from times long past.

"This is from nine years ago." Mest started "Well two for you guys. Master asked me to go undercover in the council and find information about the western continent, Alverez. I made the decision to wipe my own memories to make the job easier, Master was the only one with the key to wake me up again. Master tried to tell me not to but I did it anyway, eventually I got a little too serious about the job and you can fill in the events of Tenrou Island there…luckily you all didn't die and Master was able to wake me up again, he wanted me to come back right after the games but I was so close to finding out what he wanted to know. Before I could find it, the Council was destroyed and Master dissolved the guild."

"Yeah I know that part." I said "I got all pissed and yelled at him…but he never told me why he did it or where he went."

"I know." Mest said "It was the information, he broke the guild up to save it, from the kingdom on the western continent, Alvarez. They once attempted to invade Ishgar but failed…Master said they invaded in the first place was because of this, Lumen Histoire."

"They didn't fail the council just forced them back." Mest continued "They used the powerful Magic Weapons like Etherion, FACE was meant to be their back up plan. Without it…without the council, Etherion or FACE, we don't have a defense."

"He said an invasion was coming, I tried to tell him we could fight back, did you know that there are about 500 guilds in Ishgar, there are 730 in Alvarez, that includes Dark Guilds, the guilds there are combined to form the military of that kingdom."

730 guilds…with hundreds of members each…

"If we were to fight alone we'd be obliterated." Mest said "and so…Master went off alone. He just did it to protect everyone."

"That damn old man." I growled "Vanished for a whole year on some damn suicide mission."

"I don't even know if he's still dealing with them." Mest shrugged "That country is so isolated…"

"Enough…" I mumbled "I don't want to talk about this right now."

"I did what Master asked and helped the council, specifically Master Warrod, we jury rigged that ten-wizard saint group but…Master Warrod knows what is happening but I'm not so sure about the others. They do however feel the pressure, they've been reinforcing the border for some time now."

"The old man should have been back by now if his plan worked." Gray said.

"Exactly." Mest nodded "I don't know if he failed, or just can't get back."

"Then we can go help him." Natsu said

"For now my mission is complete." Mest said "From this point I am officially back as a member of Fairy Tail, please use me as you see fit."

"Then let's go!" Happy yelled.

"No." I snapped my fingers to let off a rumble and silence them all "If this is an enemy the old man couldn't handle, we can't go storming in. Alvarez, I remember my mother mentioning it when I was young, it is a place full of wizards that will cut you down in a moment."

"We spent the last year training!" Natsu yelled "We won't lose to them!"

"SHUT UP!" I yelled "You think one year suddenly makes you the top of the food chain?! You don't understand anything Natsu! This isn't some game or some casual fight, this is life and death, you're not the best Natsu, there are still plenty of people that could kick your ass in a fight, partially because you're not strong enough, and secondly you're not smart enough. I will not charge my guild to certain death so you can feel good about how strong you are!"

I looked at Erza and took a deep breath "I won't allow you to disobey his last order, I am the Master now, this is my decision. I want everyone to rebuild and be together. That is my order as Master."

"Kanji!"

"But, as a member of the guild and a descendent of the name Dreyar…I must rescue my Grandfather, only the people in this room may go. A smaller group can infiltrate with more ease, we will find Gramps and leave. We can talk more after that."

I glared at them "Let me make this clear, this is a rescue mission not a fight, don't pick fights or try to be the hero, am I clear? NATSU?!"

"Yeah, yeah…we'll save Gramps for sure."

Kage's POV

"Well the guild hall is coming along nicely." I shrugged "Not too much work."

"You didn't have to make all the wood." Laki glared.

We were sitting with Cana, Mira and Juvia, just catching up and chatting.

"Hey!" Gajeel pushed Juvia out of the way "I need the B-team again."

"Is it the Magic Games again already?" Cana laughed.

"You're drunk…"

"We need to find the other two." He said "We're short Lightning Bastard and Sunshine."

"Wait?" Mira asked "Do you know where Laxus is?"

He just flicked his nose "Don't know where Sunshine is though."

"She's in Sun Village." Carole said walking up "Lauren and Flare went to Sun Village."

"Well that's the other direction." Gajeel said "We can deal with her later, come on let's go."

"Elfman come on we have things to do!" Mira cheered.

When Mira told him they were going to find Laxus and the Thunder Legion he was on board.

"You coming?" Cana asked.

"I'm not on the B-team." I smirked "I made A-Team."

"Sure~" Gajeel mumbled "Let's face it if the rest of us got back on time Kanji would have been on that team…and Elfman was just a sub."

"HEY!" we both snapped.

"Come along A-Team rejects!" Cana cheered grabbing us.

"Wait I'm supposed to be watching Elise!" Mira yelped.

"I'll take care of her for you." Kinana smiled.
