Chapter 6

Kagome stepped off the elevator, checking her watch to make sure she wasn't late. Her cobalt designer pumps clicking along the tile as she quickened her steps to make it outside.

She had lunch with Kikyo and Sango today, she was excited for some socialization time, because with the soft launch approaching, her workload seemingly doubled out of nowhere. She entered the cafe they were meeting in and immediately spotted them.

"Hey Girls" she greeted, kissing both women on their cheeks before sitting in the chair saved for her.

"You're just 5 minutes late, I'm impressed" Sango joked, her chocolate eyes widening in fake shock.

"Some extra work is doing her good. She has to be on time for meetings now." Kikyo teased as well.

"You joke, but I actually have to set reminders and alarms now so I don't miss a meeting" Kagome said exasperated, as if it was a supreme hardship to endure. "Woe is me."

The three women dissolved into giggles and looked through the menu, murmuring about what seemed good from what didn't. After their waiter left with their order, Kikyo began;

"So...how are things with Sesshoumaru?" She asked, clearly deciding to get to the juicy bits first.

Kagome rolled her eyes, knowing that this was coming. "We're...dating. I guess you can say" she said taking a sip of water.

"Uh huh?" Sango said leadingly, eyes expecting.

"Guys it's only been a couple weeks, ok maybe almost a month. But still we're just trying" Kagome said looking away.

"And fucking." Kikyo said confidently, daring her cousin to refute.

There was nothing to refute, however, because it was true. They had been spending time together when they could around work. Going out on dates..and fucking, meditating together...and fucking, they even went hiking.

And fucked twice. Once in the car and another time on the trail.

Sango looked expectant, scandalized that she didn't know this information before just now.

"Okay so there has been some fucking" Kagome caved quickly. "We're consenting adults. But we do other things too." She continued, trying to gloss over the conversation she KNEW they wanted to have.

"And it's obviously good fucking." Sango commented

"You have no idea" Kagome whispered, rolling her eyes in the back of her head.

The girls giggled together for a little before Kikyo asked, "So, you think you'll agree to the match?"

Kagome got quiet. "I mean, we agreed that we would make it work" she said, "So we're trying."

"I thought you could, you know?" Sango asked confused, clearly referring to the newer clause of marrying whoever she wanted.

"The Family wants are our wants." Kagome said simply, hoping they would read between the lines.

"Oh Kagome.." it was Kikyo who understood first, "well I hope it works out between you too"

"Thank you Kik" Kagome said gratefully. Sango smiled over at her and grabbed her hand

"If you ever need anything, you know we're here" Sango said.

"Thanks you guys." She said happily, "How are you and InuYasha?" She asked Kikyo and the other woman blushed.

"We're doing well, actually, we're planning a trip for the holidays."

"Oh that's lovely Kik!" Both women gushed, happy for their friend that her relationship was progressing.

The women continued with their lunch date, catching up happily, chatting about any and everything until Kagome's phone started trilling.

"Oh, that's my reminder, I have a meeting with the marketing execs and some guy named Tanaka Naraku about the soft launches and all the preparations." Kagome stood up from the table.

"Be careful of that guy 'Gome, he kind of sleezy, doesn't take no for an answer." Sango warned.

"Oh goody, hopefully he isn't a micromanager or anything. Thanks for the advice." Kagome sighed, suddenly wondering if her apricot sweater dress was long enough or loose enough. She didn't want to give this man additional reasons to try to speak with her.

"Ah, Kagome, I must say these changes you suggested have really improved the weight of our media plan" A man spoke, his reddish-brown eyes alright with excitement. He had his hand on her arm, holding her there in conversation with him.

Kagome looked at the man in front of her, uncomfortable, but not showing it. Tanaka Naraku was a charismatic man, if a little clingy. She was thankful for Sango's warning because she wouldn't have paid attention to the warning flags that went off in their initial meeting. Now weeks later, she was very tired of him and his advances.

"Thank you Mr Tanaka, but you tell me this every week." She hid her exasperation, counting down the time before he decided to let her be on her way. His advances had been getting more and more insistent, riddled with innuendo as if he were trying to get her to slip up and agree to something she didn't want to.

"How many times do I have to remind you, call me Naraku?" he purred, leaning into her personal space. She stepped back and pulled her arm from his with the pretense of lifting some paperwork.

"And how many times do I have to remind you that we are simply work colleagues." She stared at him flatly, not smiling or giggling at his smarmy display.

"Let me make it up to you, have dinner with me tonight, we can go over extra changes and get to know each other outside of work." He smirked arrogantly, certain she would reconsider.

"No thank you Mr. Tanaka. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm late for another meeting." She said before walking confidently out of the room, making sure to not falter or glance back in any way because she was certain he was staring at her with that leer in his eye she caught once when he thought she wasn't looking.

If he wasn't a part of the general board, she would have already requested that she not have to work with him anymore. But as it stood, her hands were tied, so she would deal with him until everything was over.

She bumped into InuYasha in the corridor,

"Whoa there, where's the fire?" He asks jokingly, steadying her as she almost fell over.

"Sorry, I just had a meeting with Tanaka Naraku and I had to get outta there. That smarmy motherfucker gives me the creeps." She replied, glancing behind her.

"Is there anything I can do?" He asked seriously.

"I'm not sure. He hasn't outright harassed me yet so I'm sure if I bring it up it'll be a case of he said she said" she dismissed

"Yeah, but you forget, your words have weight here. If you tell them that guy is a gross asshole, they'll deal with him." InuYasha pointed out.

"I think it'll be fine. At least while he's here I know what to expect. I fear taking action and his retaliation goes further, you know?"

InuYasha looked skeptical but didn't disagree. "Just keep me posted. If that asshole steps one foot outta line, I'll have his head on a platter for you."

"Gross Yasha, but thanks for having my back on this." She said, "Anyway, I gotta go, I have a meeting with your brother"

"Oh a meeting eh? Have fun!" He teased before winking and walking away.

"It's not like that!" She tried to call out to him, but he waved her off with a laugh. Shaking her head, she continued on her way to Sesshoumaru's office.

She entered the space after receiving the go ahead from his secretary, walking straight over to kiss him in greeting.

"Izayoi wants to see you for tea tomorrow, she said you left before you normally do this morning" Sesshoumaru announced, glancing up from his screen.

"I had to prepare for the meeting with Tanaka today and I didn't want to be late, so I asked Kenta to drive me in earlier." She responded, wearily. It was only eleven, she really shouldn't be so tired, she swore Naraku was a leech.

"You know, you can come in with me." He replied quietly, as she sat in one of the wingback chairs in front of his desk and crossed her legs.

"I know, I'm still wanting to wait on that. That feels like an announcement that, you know." She faltered, "that we're together, and I still want to keep that somewhat private."

"But are we not together?" He was confused, sure they never really had the conversation, but it was technically a done deal. "Or are you still keeping your options open?" He all but sneered.

"What? No. Where did you even get that from?" She asked defensively, surprised he would say that to her. "I'm not trying to meet anyone else; how could you even insinuate that."

"You want to keep our relationship private, why?" He cut to the point, not wanting an argument and if he was being honest, hurt.

She stood up and paced to his side of the desk "because I don't want everyone in our business. I just, I don't want to see our pictures splashed all over the social pages and sites." She said worriedly.

"They do that already when we go out together." His response was flat, obviously not believing her.

She looked at him, really looked at him and saw the insecurities hovering but not fully there. She cupped his cheek.

"I'm not ashamed of us, and I'm not trying to hide us. I just, it's still so new and I know what our lives are gonna be like when we make the official announcement with all the prying from our families, the media and the public." She sighed and looked down, "I guess I just wanted to keep this for us as long as possible. I'm sorry for making it seem like I didn't want this."

He pulled her in his lap and she automatically wrapped her arms around his neck. "I understand, and can't say that I don't have similar wants." He said simply.

"We should spend the rest of the day working from home." She said suddenly.

"Will we actually get any work done or are you trying to score a free ride home early."

"Eh, tomato potato. I'll make it up to you." She offered with a smile. He looked at her consideringly.

"Fine, is 1pm sufficient? I have a meeting with my father soon."

She nodded once and kissed him on the cheek. He shook his head, not letting her go. She giggled and pecked him on the lips instead. His arms tightened around her in response, eliciting a loud laugh from her before she held his cheeks and kissed him deeply.

Some fluff to end the chapter. I'm always for some cutsie goodness.

Please tell me what you think :)
