Chapter 9

The night wore on splendidly, Kagome stuck with her friends for the majority of the evening. They kept her occupied with dancing, and conversations. Sesshoumaru was in and out of the group, having to speak with different clients and family friends. Kagura was sometimes seen tittering behind him, grabbing on to him when she could, she was using their shared clients and known connections to keep him within her company.

Kagome wasn't worried about her, it was Naraku that she kept her eyes on. He had 'happened upon her' twice more since she was initially saved by Sango. One time she was saved by Kikyo and another she was able to get out of his creepy presence on her own.

The night was winding down, and she noticed most of the patrons leaving and inwardly cheered, they could leave soon, and she wouldn't have to worry about Kagura or Naraku. She left the table to go get one last drink, she had spent a lot of the night drinking water, not wanting to be tipsy or drunk at a work event.

She had her back to the bar while she waited for them to pour her glass, eyes on the lookout for their friendly neighbourhood creep.

"There you are!" Called from beside her and she jumped, once again he was able to creep up on her. She took her champagne flute off the bar top

"Mr Tanaka!" she greeted, lifting the drink to her lips then deciding against it. She didn't want to potentially choke on anything he had to say.

Naraku, Kagome." she said jokingly exasperated. "I came to say goodnight and to give you one last opportunity to go have a nightcap in the city." he offered magnanimously. She smiled faintly.

"You'll have to enjoy your night without me, Mr Tanaka. I hope you had a good time. Good night." she said, ending the conversation and walking away, not seeing him watch her as she took her first sip of her last glass of champagne for the night, she could not wait to get home.

Noticing belatedly that the champagne tasted a little salty, she spat whatever remained in her mouth back in the glass. Unfortunately, she had already swallowed some. She wondered what it was, drawing from her memory of what Rohypnol tasted like. She couldn't quite remember if it was supposed to be salty. Having been drinking champagne all night, she knew this particular glass tasted off.

Kagome tried not to panic as she looked around for either her friends, family or Sesshoumaru. She had hoped the amount she had wasn't enough to affect her. To her dismay she already felt a slight heaviness in her shoulders.

She needed to move and get to the bathroom. At the very least she needed to leave the middle of the ballroom, she didn't want to cause a scene and ruin the whole night for everyone. She wondered if someone really spiked her drink or if this was all in her head.

'Could Naraku have done this?' she thought. He was there with her at the bar. But she didn't look away from the bartender for very long. 'if he was able to get behind me without me seeing him, he could have most definitely drugged my drink'

She stumbled a bit before managing herself and continuing forward more strongly. Her brain felt a bit foggy but she was still aware of everything. Someone came up beside her and wrapped an arm along the small of her back. She felt a suit jacket brush her skin as the person pulled her to rest on them.

She turned her head with effort, hoping to see Sesshoumaru looking at her. To her dismay, Naraku smirked down at her. She tried to fight his grip and call out, but she wasn't strong enough and the sound was strangled.

He walked her into a side room, fumbling a bit with the door but he eventually got them through the threshold. It was a small room, seemed to be used for keeping spare tables and chairs or extra drinks.

He pushed her roughly to a table, she landed heavily, and her legs gave out sending her crumpling to the floor. He hefted her up and pinned her to a wall, groping at her breasts and trying to kiss her. She managed to turn her head away and pushed against his shoulder to no avail.

"Stop it" she managed out, slurred. The drug worked itself faster through her blood stream now that she was active.

'I think I saw her go this way' they heard outside the door.

Kagome tried to scream but Naraku slapped her before forcing his tongue down her throat. She grabbed at him, trying to push him, but he rested his weight on her. Knowing she couldn't move.

The door opened, "Oh! I guess we're interrupting." It was Kagura. Even in her drugged state, Kagome could hear the smirk in her voice.

Kagome tried to make another noise and it came out like a moan. The door squeaked again, opening further.

"What the fuck is going on?!" It was Sesshoumaru and he was upset.

Kagome felt her heart drop.

Naraku looked back at the couple at the door, "Do you mind?" He asked with a smirk. Kagome's head lolled backwards against the wall; she couldn't hold herself up anymore.

'This can't be happening' she thought, crying out internally. She hoped he would notice that something was wrong. She couldn't see anything or hear anything anymore. The room was fuzzy.

She felt when Naraku was pulled off of her and her body fell to the floor in dead weight. She tried to lift her hand to her head that was blooming with pain but she couldn't lift it more than an inch off the ground.

Something was pressed to her lips, a glass. She tried to get away from it, Naraku must be trying to feed her more drugs. She felt the liquid run down her cheek, some of it making it into her mouth.

Her ears felt like she had cotton balls in them, she was hearing some intermittent noise. She opened her eyes and saw two fuzzy figures above her. In a moment of clarity she recognized Kikyo and Sango's worried faces.

"Drugged" she slurred out, or at least she hoped she did. "He drugged me." She tried again, hoping that a longer phrase would provide some context for them to understand.

She felt the glass to her lips again and this time she allowed some to flow down her throat. Choking in the process. She felt them ease her up and Sango rubbed her neck with a cool cloth.

She didn't know what was going on, she just wanted to go home.

Sesshoumaru was more than ready to go home. He was tired and wanted to get away from Kagura's clinginess. He thought it was a little suspicious that she was so eager to help him find Kagome, but in his exhaustion, he didn't question further.

She led him to a room off the one side of the ballroom. "I think I saw her go this way" she said reaching for the door. He looked around the emptying room, seeing InuYasha, Kikyo and Sango off to one side, he didn't see his parents nor Kagome

"Oh! I guess we're interrupting." Kagura said again, bringing his attention back to the room. He was confused, what was she talking about? Turning away he was about to go talk to InuYasha when he heard a low moan. He froze.

Walking into the room, he was shocked to see Tanaka Naraku press up against a shockingly familiar woman. Her eyes closed as he kissed her, she was fisting his suit jacket. "What the fuck is going on?!" He all but yelled, his heart dropping to his feet and shattering.

Naraku turned to them and Kagome did nothing, her head tilted to the wall. She didn't even look at him. He didn't hear what the other man said, swiftly exiting the room. He also missed the gleeful expression on Kagura's face.

"Oi, what's going on?" InuYasha walked towards him, hearing his raised voice and coming to investigate. "You find Kagome? Where's her skinny ass at? I'm starving"

"She's fucking around with Naraku of all people it seems" Sesshoumaru bit out, not stopping.

"What?! You LEFT her with Naraku?" InuYasha cried out, causing some people to look over at them in concern. InuYasha tore into the small room, all but throwing Kagura out of his way before he bodily pulled Naraku off of Kagome, who fell immediately to the ground.

"You fucking creepy motherfucker. I'm gonna kill you!" InuYasha threatened, repeatedly punching the dark-haired man in the face and then throwing his unconscious form out the room.

"I need an ambulance!" He cried as Kikyo and Sango rushed into the room to see their friend crumpled on the ground.

Sesshoumaru was confused. Very confused. He hesitated. He saw the flurry of activity and noticed Kagura trying to be as unnoticeable as possible. His stomach dropped.

"Kagura." He said and she froze. Her face was ashen, like that of someone who got caught. "What did you do?" He walked closed to her and stopped, the activity in the room catching his attention. He heard Kikyo asking Kagome to drink.

He went into the small room and saw the two women huddled over the third's prone form. She looked out of it, ill.

How could he have not noticed that?

She half slurred, half moaned out a word. But they could figure out what it was. Thankfully she tried again and Sesshoumaru's blood ran cold. "He drugged me".

Then it all clicked into place. Naraku must have slipped her a date rape drug and had been taking advantage of her when Kagura led him to them. Was it all set up to seem like she was cheating? But why? He honestly didn't think Kagura would stoop so low.

A man dressed like a medic came in and kneeled beside the three women on the floor. Sesshoumaru left the room, torn. He wanted to make sure Kagome was ok, but he also needed answers. Deciding she was in good hands with the emergency personnel in the room, he went outside into the ballroom, surprised to see police officers as well.

He found InuYasha, who was giving a statement while another officer and medic were waking Naraku.

"He had her against the wall, and when I pulled him off she just fell to the ground. I don't know what happened" he heard InuYasha giving his statement.

"She was drugged. He slipped something in her drink" he filled in, his heart, mind and soul weary.

"Are you shitting me?!" InuYasha cried out. "Fuck, we were watching this motherfucker the whole night and he just needed the one moment when we all were distracted. I should have never let her out of my sight." InuYasha was upset, he looked up at his brother, convinced the older man hated him for failing to protect his girlfriend.

"I'm so sorry man, I should have tried harder, we had a system after we realized he was after her. We fucked up" he continued, clearly beating himself up.

"He was after her? What are you talking about?" Sesshoumaru's confusion deepened. There was clearly something going on that he didn't know about. He was frustrated, he needed answers. He needed to be able to control something in this whole situation.

"InuYasha." He said, stopping his brother from rambling. "from the top, tell me everything."
