Chapter 2
Later on, we are all outside and there's a fire going and music playing. I see Mateo talking to a girl so I walk over and take a seat by the fire and just enjoy the music. Mateo and his girl, who I learned is named Marci, come over to sit beside me. We're listening to the music and Marci says "Mateo said you lived in Georgia for awhile." I nod and say "Yeah. I had a scholarship to a music school out there." I tell her. "Do you play an instrument?" she asks. "She sings, actually." Mateo says. "I'd love to hear you." Marci says. Love on the brain by Rhianna comes on and Mateo says "I know you know this one." I glare at him and Marci says "Please sing it." Someone sits down next to me and says "Yeah, please sing it." I look beside me and see it's Ghost. Looking at Mateo and Marci and they are smiling at me. I roll my eyes and say "Fine." I start singing the song and by the end of the song we have a crowd around us, listening. Everyone applauds and cheers and I look at my brother and see pride in his eyes. He always did like hearing me sing. I look at Ghost and he says "Beautiful." and I start to blush.
I see my brother get up and walk to the DJ and all of a sudden Demi Levato's song Tell Me You Love Me comes on and Ghost says "Please." I look at him and roll my eyes again and start to sing. Three songs later, I finally say "That's it." and everyone goes about their conversations. Mateo and Marci go off by themselves and Ghost is still sitting there next to me. "That was beautiful Princessa." I look away shyly and say "Thanks." He tilts my head up and says "Don't hide." We look into each other's eyes and he says "Why don't you let me take you out sometime." I look away and say "I don't know if that's a good idea." He tilts my head up again and ask "Why not?" Not wanting to tell him why, I say "I just got back. I need to get settled in before I start getting out there. Coming tonight was Mateo's idea." He smiles and says "Then remind me to thank him." I just shake my head. Looking up, I see a woman watching us. She's glaring at me and watching Ghost closely. "I think your girl is looking for you." I say as I stand to go. "Nice meeting you Ghost." He stands to speak but I walk away before he could. Walking over to Mateo, I say "Are you ready to go?" He nods and the three of us head out.
After we dropped Marci off, he says "Talk to me, G." I just look out the window. "Hey." Mateo says and I look at him and say "Ghost asked me out." He smiles and asks "What did you say?" I shake my head and say "I told him I didn't think it was such a good idea. I just got here and need to get my head right before I even think about going out with anyone." I tell him. "I get it. But how are you going to get your head right?" he asks. "Mom said the trails are still opened." I tell him and he smiles. "You loved those trails." he says. "Yeah. They are the only ones that go by the water and it's peaceful." I tell him.
We get home and Mom is waiting up. "How'd it go?" she asks as we both sit on the couch on each side of her. "G sang." Mateo says. "What? Really?" she asks, hopeful because I haven't sang in years. "Yeah. Did a few songs." I tell her. "That's great Mija." she says. "Oh and she got asked out." Mateo says and I glare at him. "So, when are you going out?" she asks. "I'm not. I told him I needed to get settled in first. I need to get my head right Mom before I even think about getting involved with someone." I tell her. "Okay. But just keep yourself open." she says.
I go to bed and all I can think about is Ghost. He was sweet, attentive, smooth, but I can't get involved with anyone right now. Maybe someday.
