Follow up to Runaway Slayer.
Billy, Kimberly, and Tommy arrived at the Youth Center to see that a crowd had formed around the practice mats. They made their way through the crowds toward the front where they found Trini, Zack, and Ernie.
"Hey, what's going on?" Kimberly asked as she turned to watch Jason spar.
"Jason and his cousin have been sparring." Zack told her.
"They're on their third match." Ernie told them. "Jason took her down first and then she took Jason down."
The trio watched with the others as Jason threw a punch at her. Buffy blocked the punch and tried to sweep Jason's leg. Jason jumped avoiding it and then caught Buffy's arm when she followed with a punch. Jason then quickly swept her feet from under and she landed on her back. She laid there breathing heavy trying to catch her breath. The crowd applauded.
"Good job Cuz. I thought you had me there for a minute."
"I did too, but I'll get you next time." Buffy said as she sat up.
"That was great you two. Here's a bottle of water on the house." Ernie said handing them both a bottle of water.
"Thank you." Buffy said accepting the water.
"Thanks Ernie." Jason said.
"Before we do introductions, I need a shower. Give me fifteen minutes." Buffy said looking at the others.
"I do too." Jason said wiping the sweat from his brow.
"Let me help you." Billy offered his hand to Buffy. He pulled her to her feet.
"Thanks Billy." Buffy said giving him a thousand-watt smile that caused Billy's insides to warm up just a little.
Jason and Buffy returned having used the gym's showers. They found that the others were all sitting around two tables pushed together. Jason and Buffy both ordered something to eat.
"Ernie, I'd like you to meet my cousin Buffy. She's going to be staying with my family and possibly starting school at Angel Grove High in the fall."
"It's nice to meet you Buffy. I'm glad that Jason found you yesterday."
"Yeah, so am I. You have a nice place here Ernie."
"Thanks."
"Ernie can we get two burgers with fries, a strawberry-kiwi smoothie…which one do you want Buffy?"
"Can I get a Strawberry-orange-banana smoothie?"
"Sure. I'll bring your food to you when it's ready."
"Thanks Ernie." Jason said as he paid for their food.
They went over to the table where the others were at and Buffy was a bit nervous, but Jason just gave her hand a squeeze.
"Guys, I'd like you to meet my cousin Buffy Summers. Buffy, you remember Billy and Kimberly." Buffy nodded and gave a wave to them. "I want you to meet Zack Taylor, Trini Kwan, and Tommy Oliver."
"Hi, it's nice to finally meet you all. Jason has told me so much about you all that I feel like I already know you."
Buffy said as she took the empty seat between Billy and Trini. Jason pulled up a chair and sat between Zack and Tommy.
"Buffy when did you become more interested in martial arts?" Kimberly asked.
"Well Jason always teaches me something when we see each other and last year when he visited, I started thinking it would be fun to learn."
"You picked up on it really fast. Tommy is the only person I know that has been able to match Jase move for move like that." Zack told her.
"I'd like to see what you got Tommy. Maybe we can spar sometime?"
"Sure." Tommy said having caught the end of Jason's match. Ernie brought Jason's and Buffy's food. "How long are you going to be in Angel Grove?"
"I'm hoping to stay at least until I graduate. My aunt and uncle are seeing if they can get my mom to agree to let me stay. So, you guys might be seeing a lot more of me."
"Ooh that would be so cool Buffy. We need to have a sleepover soon so we can dish the dirt." Kim said her eyes sparkling.
"How about this weekend at my house? That will give Buffy some time to settle in. What do you think Buffy? We can have it Friday after school." Trini offered.
"Sounds good to me. I have to check with Aunt Judy to make sure nothing happening, and I'll let you know." Buffy told them.
"Great." The two girls said.
The others talked and let Jason and Buffy eat. Some music was playing, and Zack couldn't help but get up and dance to it. The others watched from the table. Buffy had to admit he was really good. Having finished her food, she walked over to where Zack was dancing.
"That was really incredible Zack. What do you call that?"
"Hip-hop Kido. It combines karate with dancing. Why don't you give it a try?"
"I'm not much of a dancer but I'll give it a try." Buffy said getting up. Zack started off with a simple move that Buffy was able do. He did a few more before stepping it up a bit.
"You're a natural." Zack said with a grin
"Thanks." Buffy said going back to sit down now that she was hot again.
She went to sit back down when she noticed the two bullies approaching Billy. She figured this must be Bulk and Skull.
"It's Nerd boy. Don't you know the Youth Center isn't for losers like you?" Bulk said to Billy.
"Yeah losers like you." Skull repeated.
"Then what are you two doing here?" Buffy said coming to stand by Billy. "I mean I'm looking at everyone here the only two losers I see are standing in front of me."
"You need to be taught a lesson." Bulk growled.
"Yeah a lesson."
"Wow I bet you don't have an original thought up there do ya? I didn't think it was medically possible for two different people to share the same brain. Guess I was wrong."
Buffy said with a huge taunting smile. Both Bulk and Skull reached for her and Buffy ducked under their grip and ended up hugging each other. That had the crowd laughing.
"I guess two heads really aren't better than one. You got to do better than that. I'm not even trying."
They chased after her and Buffy begins to back flip away from them landing in a handspring on the balance beam. When they charged at her, Buffy flipped over them causing them to hit the balance beam with their stomachs knocking the wind out of them.
"Come on Toro! Toro!" Buffy said using a towel she borrowed.
Bulk charged at her and she spun out of the way causing him to hit the wall.
"I could do this to him all day. Your turn." Skull hesitated. "Oh, come on, I won't even move my feet."
Skull charged at her and in one swift motion with her hands tossed him with Bulk on the ground.
"I never moved my feet." Buffy said as she walked over to the bar. "Let me see that water Billy."
Buffy took the cap off the water and went over to where Bulk and Skull still laid. She poured the water on to their faces.
"Wakey-wakey." The two sputtered and sat up quickly. "Now would the two of you like to leave this nice establishment or would you like to continue to embarrass yourselves?"
"Who are you?" Bulk asked as he got up.
"Let me introduce you to my cousin Buffy Summers and if I were you, I'd leave because she could keep embarrassing you all day. She's a natural at it." Jason said matching the charming smile Buffy was wearing.
Bulk and Skull both left grumbling about geeks and short blondes. Everyone laughed and watched them go before returning to what they were doing.
"That was fun. Are they always that easy to dupe?" Buffy asked as she and Jason walked back to the table.
"Yes. You would think they would learn by now."
"Buffy that was a phenomenal display of intellectual and corporeal competency."
"Thanks Billy."
"You understood that sentence?" Zack asked.
"Well he just complimented me on my mental and physical skills to get rid of Bulk and Skull. Right?" Buffy asked hoping she had deciphered it correctly.
"Affirmative." Billy said with a smile.
"Yeah me!" Buffy said with a huge smile.
Jason watched discretely as Buffy and Billy talked. Unbeknownst to Buffy, Billy has had a crush on her since they were twelve and looking at his cousin it looked like she might like Billy as well. He'd have to keep both eyes on that.
