Enjoy?

Andy drove them from the Bed Bath & Beyond like they stole everything in the trunk. As fun as that would probably be, they instead had to be boring old people and listen to what Ben told them. It felt like checking off a list until the last item was Be Lame.

At least, it should have been like that but now they have a few marshmallow shooters that someone had "forgotten" to check out. Even then, something felt uneasy in the car on the way back home.

"That was pretty cool back there," April said in her flattest voice possible.

"Oh yeah? Awesome," Andy laughed and she could only shake her head. They waited a beat before he said, "What was?"

She should be annoyed, but she was too tired to deal with any of that. "Y'know, what you said in the store..."

"Oh, I mean. I cannot imagine what life would be like without another fork, babe," he said in the most serious voice imaginable. "I know, I know it's cute. But, honestly? I eat like way faster and better than you, anyways."

It was unreal. How could he just do that? Just make everything feel all right, and good and warm, and then resume everything like he was some kind of emotional superhero. Baffling is the only word she can think of for all of it.

"I love you," she said while they stopped at the sign just a block before their house.

"I, uh, I love you too, babe," Andy answered.

"Hey, you know you're... special, right? To me," April whispered. She tried to ignore the heat in her chest and cheeks at how lame she sounded.

But it didn't seem lame to him, because Andy gave her the biggest grin he could muster and reached out his right hand to hold hers.

And, frankly, she might explode because they just bought cleaning crap and household supplies - or whatever - and now they were holding hands and she told him, her husband for crying out loud, that he was special. No duh, he got to be married to her.

His voice was a bit quieter, then.

"You're super important to me, too." And then he laughed and said, "Ha, I'm gonna tell everyone April Ludgate is a big softie."

"Not fair," she whined, but did not think about letting go of his hand for a second as they pulled into the driveway.

"What're you gonna do about it, shoot me with marshmallows?" he asked, tempting her with a sly smile.

"More like a hundred marshmallows," April said and raced out of the car when he parked.

She ran to the back of the car and cried in surprise when Andy picked her up by the waist, practically tossed her behind him, and opened the trunk. He already had half the bags in his arms when April pushed him to the side and reached for the now missing toy guns. Andy was already across the driveway and reaching the door when she groaned and grabbed all of the bags, trying to catch him before he could ready a preemptive assault.

He got to be married to her.

It wasn't quite like that, somehow she was married to him and her heart could barely contain the thought.
