Zara lounged on her couch going through the channels and something on the news caught her eye. A picture of a young black woman standing there with far-off stare that looked like she could be anywhere but there. Why couldn't they use any other picture of her?! Why was she even on the news? And of course, Vicky Vale standing outside of Arkham to answer all of Zara's questions. Zara turned up the volume and decided to listen to the beautiful blonde on the screen with a plastered look of fake concern.
"This is Vicky Vale reporting live from outside of Arkham Asylum where another tragic death has happened. A patient by the name of Patricia Arkwell was in Arkham for her routine thirty day stay since a run in with the high minded criminal the Riddler caused her some serious distress and mental anguish. Patricia is yet another victim of women being taken down by the powerful male criminals. Among those victims are Tamela Taylor." Another picture of a young woman of brown skin sneering her nose in an unmannerly fashion. Her hair was blonde and long, she was wearing red contacts, and a crop top with an anti-batman shirt. Something about that picture didn't seem right. "Who was killed during a riot invoked by Two-Face. And the newest edition Zara Smith." They showed the same picture. "Who was accidently killed by police when mistaken for a henchwoman of the Joker-who was murdered the same night- we got to speak with Chairman of the Board of Arkham Dr. Hugo Strange, who had this to say,"
"It is a very bothersome thing that happened with Ms. Arkwell. It is hard to deal with such a terrible tragedy. We wish the Arkwell family luck, and we shall make sure that all of her funeral procedures are taken care of." He said and then walked back into Arkham with the chattering of reporters asking more questions. Questions she was sure Hugo Strange was not going to answer.
Vicky Vale continued her sepal about Arkham "Although Arkham has been a place to stick the criminally insane… There has been no success story when it comes to rehabilitation. The Joker, being one of the most prominent people who was a patient and we can see how that went." Vicky Vale said looking at the camera. "After this horrible incident we can hope that maybe the rich philanthropist can assist the Asylum in a reform that can-"Click.
Zara turned off the television and sighed. Who would they help? Why would they help? The crazy and dangerous were out of sight and out of mind in 'Old Gotham' and they were in the new shiny product of their hard-spent money. She looked at her cat who looked up at her with a confused look. "I think I'm going to take a little trip to Arkham." She stroked him behind the ear. "Don't wait up. I'll be back."
The cat meowed, Zara was sure in relaxation, but Zara looked at him and smiled "I know how rude of them not to mention the blood diamonds that were stolen. Guess just another crime swept under the rug… Or maybe we missed the segment. But right now, we've got bigger fish to fry my little pretty." She said her voice devilishly coy. Then she walked out of the apartment and down the stairs. Out into the street where the Gotham sky was orange, and a hazy green toxic taste in the air. She pulled her purple jacket closer to her and slipped through the back streets.
