Truth telling
When the past is left forgotten to keep their treasures
To be able to feel free is the most sacred thing. Having the opportunity to be able to be who you are and do whatever you feel like it something that everybody should try once in a while. When you let loose, do what you wanna do and just live the life that you wanna live then you will achieve the most amazing things in your life.
Those achievements will become your treasured memories, experiences and adventures, something that you alone creates and explore. That because you live your life to the fullest you create your own pathway, a path that you love and will cherish for the rest of your road. There will be bumps, indents, rocks and trees falling on your path, that's just how it is, you can't predict anything no matter how hard you try.
But those you can either fix, jump across or avoid by waking around them. Then you might divert your path but eventually you will get back on track because you are the one who created it after all. Then you're also the one who are able to get back onto it.
Sonic the hedgehog wasn't philosophical. He didn't use metaphors, didn't use advanced linguistics, and kept to saying things the way he wanted to say them. His vocabulary wasn't that large, he sometimes repeats his sentences because he has nothing else to say and he definitely talked before he thinks. With that being said, that didn't mean that he didn't understand it or appreciate it.
He was practically the creator of the term 'do what you wanna do', as this blue hedgehog, known as the hero of Mobius, the fastest thing alive and was seen as the blue blur did whatever he wanted to do. If he wanted to travel the world then he did, he wanted to meet new people and learn a new culture then he did, and if he wanted to learn something new and go on an adventure then he did.
Nothing could stop him – both literally and figuratively. He was the embodiment of freedom, being able to run as fast as the wind without any complications – no hurting feet, not lungs heaving for air and no bumping heart – he could practically go anywhere, whenever he wanted. And so, he did, as this blue hedgehog was one of the few mobians who had already had his adventure of a lifetime, but he didn't have any plans on stopping now. Oh, then you're mistaken.
This hedgehog wants to keep exploring the world, go into the highest mountains, down into the deepest caves and run around in the largest forests. Then if he didn't find anything interesting like a lead for an adventure, like forgotten parchments, people who needed his help or his arch nemesis stirring up trouble then that was fine. If he didn't find the gold at the end of the rainbow, then that was cool – at least he had gotten a nice view and a refreshing run out of it.
The idiom 'It's not about the destination, it's about the journey' was what he lived for. Running was his way of doing what he wanted to do, was his way of feeling free and the way that he created his path. A bunch of bumps was on his road, a lot of them, with his past that included giant water gods attacking a technological advanced city, robotic replicas of him wanting to take over the world, getting possessed by dark energy and has the job of restoring the world, saving kidnapped aliens and prevent six over worldly creatures of taking over the planet.
You could say that he got his hands full, as he had devoted himself in full time to stop the evil Doctor Eggman from building an amusement park and enslave everybody. To anyone else, this sounds completely and utterly ridiculous, but that plan alone, that idea, that freedom of thought was what made Sonic the hedgehog have a somewhat full time job.
Eggman was the one who made the bumps and the indents on his parade, he was the one who threatened Mobius and their inhabitants. But the blue blur didn't care. He didn't care in the sense that the evil doctor made his road horrible, as long as he kept everybody else's clean. As long as he could make sure to stop the madman's plans in time and make sure that everybody else could be sound asleep in their bed then he didn't care. If he could make sure that everybody else made their own road and stick to it, then he would keep doing his job.
Sonic had bumps that was definite, but he also had extra pathways, clean gravel, and a shining sun in the things he had achieved. One of the things that he kept sacred to himself was his friends. They meant everything to him and was the most likely family that he was ever going to have. Some of them were questionable in sense of trust, though those things he could ignore, as long as they kept doing the things, they did in terms of good then he didn't care. His friends were very different in personalities and were spread apart in the world. All of them hadn't been together in a long time if ever.
The ones that he called friends, but they might not be were a team that consisted of three people, which was a black hedgehog, white bat and an Eggman robot. They were special, fun to tease and interesting to work together with, though he didn't see them that often at all considering that they worked for GUN, and organization created by the government to keep the president safe from the evil doctor's clutches.
Other friends were someone he had no idea if he would even see again, considering that he knew a purple cat princess from another dimension and another silver colored hedgehog from the future. They were interesting people, the cat being royal, careful but trustworthy and the hedgehog kind of awkward, but loyal and thought about the safety of the planet.
His closer friends, friends that he could see every day if he wanted to be a pink hedgehog named Amy, though he didn't seek her willingly. She was highly in love with Sonic, almost manic about him and every time she saw him, she would claim that he was just shy and didn't know how to tell her that he loved him. With that aside, she had angry tendencies that you wanted to stay away from, but she made a good friend and a great ally when battling their enemy.
The other friend was named Knuckles, and echidna, the last of his kind, lived on a floating island called Angel Island and was the guardian of the Master Emerald. Meeting him was an adventure in itself, as his friend was the most loyal individual he had ever met, and most likely one of the strongest as well. They had started off as enemies most definitely, but as the fog had cleared between them, he made a great friend. Though he knew that Knuckles thought that he was annoying and a pain in the bottom, but he knew that if he ever were in trouble that he could count on him.
The last person he knew was someone who was his best buddy, his best friend, his sidekick, and his adopted little brother. A two-tailed fox nicknamed Tails, who was the most intelligent person he had ever met, was a quick thinker and great sarcastic counter to his witty puns and lame jokes. They were the duo that people saw the most, the team that worked together like peas in a pod and the family that took care of each other.
They gave something to one another, if it was safety, warmth or laughs they didn't know, but it was most likely all three of them. The two of them had worked together the longest, had joined each other through thick and thin, in the battle against doctor Eggman and battles with themselves. Including water pools and lightning storms. But these they concurred, by each other's side, and none of them could ever see that friendship crumble.
The Tornado was a red one-seater biplane, meaning that it had two sets of wings, leveled above each other. Its wingspan was large, grey, and perfect for tactical theatrics. The body of the plane was red, the side of it had the name 'Sonic' written in white, and the tail had a red and blue star painted on it. The propeller was large and fast, courtesy of the engine that remained inside.
Originally this was Sonic's plane, but ever since he had taken care of the two-tailed, then he had practically been given it. Tails had a high interest in machines, mechanics and everything that had to do with technology, and therefore had taken it upon himself to improve and modify the plane for his own liking. That meant that it flew faster, it could go into high altitudes and had a weapons system in case they ever met flying enemies. Sonic preferred it that way, also because his sidekick loved flying it and he loved even more standing on the upper wing and enjoy whatever scenery they flew across – also because it only had one seat, he really didn't have any other choice.
This travel was no different, as the duo flew over the ocean, a coast to their left and a clear sky ahead of them. There were almost no wind, meaning that his quills didn't get bended in the wrong way like they could, and could instead enjoy the steady breeze in his face and the warm sun warming his body. With hands laced behind his head, he let out a sigh, emerald green eyes opening from feeling satisfied and just overall perfect, he let his gaze fall down the plane and analyze the coast.
They were a good amount of miles into the air, meaning that he could see practically everything around them, though most of it was the vast ocean, which he didn't want to spend too much time on. Sure, it was beautiful but that was all it was. Nothing else.
His dark colored fur and tan arms and stomach got warmed in the summer's heat, loving the weather more than anything. A red and white snicker with a golden buckle started tapping on the plane, as the hedgehog became a bit thoughtful, looking down at the coast and lifted an eyebrow in question.
"That's Emerald Hill if I'm not mistaken," He said, a low-pitched voice that was completely calm and collected, a mere comment that had escaped his mouth. His voice always had an edge of a grin, meaning that it sounded like he was about to laugh every time that he had said his sentence. Sonic was both the embodiment of freedom and fun, as he didn't want to do anything but have fun. That was his road.
He turned his head towards his pilot, a skilled aviator and none other than Tails himself, to get confirmation for his suspicion. Feeling the gaze of the hedgehog a young yellow furred face with a white muzzle and white tusks at his cheeks looked back at him with an amused grin, feeling just as tranquil as the hedgehog. He looked down, his eyes only darting over the sandy beach and the large forest once before he nodded.
"You're right. I took us around Westside instead, we haven't been here in a long time," He explained, in a higher-pitched youthful and innocent voice, though there was a hint of sarcasm lacing it and he always had a grin on his face, looking like he was about to laugh as well.
"I don't think we've been here ever since we left for Chemical Plant," He continued, his best friend nodding to his statement, thinking back about their first adventure together.
The whole experience had been one of a kind, something that he would cherish forever and thank Chaos for him most likely helping him on his path. He had crash-landed on that beach a long time ago, was frustrated that he didn't know how to fix this very biplane and had been running around trying to figure out how to continue. Then when he came back, he had found a small four-year-old fox who was nose deep in his engine, tinkering with a wrench in hand, completely stained with oil and grease.
Addressing him had made him jump and run away, though the fastest thing alive had hurried after him, trying to be able to talk to him. It had taken some effort as Sonic had learned that Tails had been neglected and bullied for his intelligence and his extra appendage, the hedgehog himself having to break up a few fights seeing how brutal it was. He was emaciated and very, very young to be on his own and had therefore asked if he wanted to come along for now until he could find him a place to stay, a nice village or a good family.
But as time went on, he learned that the fox could defend himself, was a quick thinker and a careful planner, quick on his step with both running and flying – courtesy of his two tails – and of course he was the best company that Sonic could ever have wished for. He was funny, knew how to bite back without offending him and had a sarcastic remark to his sentences.
After their first adventure together, that had ended with him going super and the fox getting shot down from the Tornado by Eggman himself, the hedgehog had come to realize that he didn't want to depart with Tails, and neither did he. And therefore, the duo became best friend's rather quickly, the hedgehog taking care of a growing fox when talking about normal mobian needs like food, thirst and comfort and the fox taking care of a hedgehog and making sure that he didn't do anything stupid.
It was a friendship, that evolved into family, something that neither of them had, and through osmosis alone they had become brothers, a pair that could take on anything and anyone.
"I think you're right bud. Though, I don't mind us not visiting it any time soon," Sonic said, his eyes glancing back at the fox, but he was slowly shaking his head, eyes travelling back to the sky ahead of him.
"The zone is beautiful in itself, it's the people that makes it horrible," He explained, and looked at the hedgehog and made sure to give him a faint smile. A silent 'I'm okay', which the hedgehog only nodded to, before his own eyes travelled back to the ocean.
"Couldn't agree more," He said, letting a satisfied breath escape his nostrils, letting his eyes lazily travel around the sparkling and turquoise beautiful nightmare-fuel underneath him. His eyes then caught something interesting and turned his head to the right, seeing something green instead.
It was a small island, with a beach and a small forest that stretched out around the entirety of it, a lake in the middle of it and tall brown mountains in the back. They didn't stretch as far up into the sky as others he had seen, but they were still tall, nonetheless. Two sister islands were on either side of it, one of them being a mountain in itself and the other a really small patch of green that was forests. It seemed small and secluded, like it had been left behind a long time ago, untouched, and interesting. A smirk crossed his features, looking back at the fox and then pointed towards the islands.
"Hey Tails, know what those islands are?" The fox looked up at him with a questioning stare before following where the hedgehog's finger were pointing.
He thought he saw him gulp and his eyes widening just a fraction before it disappeared, and his head whipped away from them.
"No, I've never seen them before," He declared, making Sonic take back his arm and cross it over his chest with the other, a trademark grin on his features.
"Then let's go explore it. It's a while before dinner anyway," He suggested, knew that the fox hardly ever said no to an adventure, especially when it included something mysterious as a seemingly forgotten island. Being an aviator and been flying all over Mobius since Tails had gotten the plane, he knew practically every single zone, piece of land and island. That he didn't know what this was, was interesting meaning that this was something unexplored.
"No Sonic we can't."
The hedgehog's brow quirked at the almost panicked answer, seeing a determined glare put on to his sidekick. He was looking ahead, not evening glancing back at the mentioned islands.
"Huh, why not?" He asked out of curiosity, not one to be let down by something he could explore. This was unusual behavior, something that he rarely saw in the two-tailed one.
"Because – because we're running low on ring energy," He then explained, tapping a display on the cockpit. "But that's fine, if you wanna land and strand on the island with nothing but water around it then that's cool, we can land," Sonic smirked at the sarcasm, his thoughts completely disappearing from his mind as he lifted a palm in front of him.
"Alright, alright I hear ya," He said, saw the countering smirk Tails sent him back, flying past the islands. Curiously, the hedgehog let his eyes travel back to them, his adrenaline needed brain not satisfied with them just flying past something that he hadn't seen before.
"You sure you don't know anything about it? You lived on Emerald Hill for a while and I-," –
"Sonic leave it, I don't know anything about it," Tails interrupted, shaking his head slightly.
Sonic took his time to look at him, read his face and his features as the abnormal behavior made its return. His eyes seemed fierce, an unusual determination shining through them, while both hands were on the joystick, holding on tight. The hedgehog was then about to say something else when the fox looked up at him and shrugged his shoulders.
"I didn't go around the beach much because that's where everybody else hung out. I haven't noticed them before," He explained calmly, the fierce look in his eyes dispelling from his features, a faint smile replacing it. Yet again, his suspicion was removed from his thoughts, as he nodded in understanding, the biplane flying past the coast and the islands becoming dots in the distance.
Although he still couldn't leave them behind, a longing, a curiosity in the back of his mind of what was there and what could be discovered.
