Ch.1 RagTag
This hurts a lot more than I expected. Not the punch from Qrow and how his rings dug into my aura nor when our back thwacked against the tree. But the fact that once again in my long, long life I've been laid bare for everyone to attack.
"Maybe you're right." I catch myself saying without thinking, then realize I was about to repeat history by locking myself away from the world, away from pain. But if I leave, would that resolve anything? Or delay it? Something needs to be done, or else I'll make the same mistake again. "But I had hoped-"
"Hoped what?!" Qrow picks us up causing Our back to grind against the bark. "That I would be some mindless follower?" Even though he made his point, He winds up to punch us again.
"Wait!" Oscar takes over, receiving the brunt of Qrow's punch.
"Did that coward leave you to take a hit for him?"
"No, I'm trying to protect my body."
"Uncle Qrow pl-" Ruby begins to say but she gets cut off by her older sister.
"Tell that bastard to come out. We're not through with him yet."
"Why? So I can get hurt more for his mistakes? Ugh, I hate this! I want it to stop."
"Calm down everyone or we'll attract more-" A roar close by drowns out the old woman's voice. A mob of Grimm charge in from the woods. Beowolves, Creepers, and more Manticores start to swarm in our area, snow crunching under their stampede. Qrow drops us then turns his back. At once, everyone begins fighting the Grimm. Surpringsly, the old lady joins in too, using her cane as a sickle. I swear I've seen her somewhere.
Oscar, if you would.
"No! I'm staying in control now."
There's too many Grimm, I simply want to help you.
"Is that what you were thinking when you possessed your last host?"
I'm stunned. I haven't seen Oscar this angry before. Nor were there any memories I could search for like this. The only thing close was when his extended relatives picked on one of his aunt's farm animals. Oscar attacks Grimm with wild abandon, swinging our cane unlike how I taught him. Each enemy he hits is a wet noodle striking a fort.
If you're not going to allow me to take control then please at least remember what we went over.
"Shut up!" His attack bounces off a the bony hide of a Grimm, leaving us wide open. The Beowolf turns and holds up its claw, but then it gets cut away by Ruby. The rest of its body is torn into ribbons by her.
"Thanks for that." Oscar says.
"It's okay, we're..." She stops herself. Looking up, all of our gazes meet something truly terrifying. "Megoliath!"
The Megoliath charges in, knocking away trees and causing everyone to evade, except Oscar. He stands there wide-eyed. When I try to take over there is an overwhelming amount of mental resistance, as if a steel wall was put before me. It collides with our midsection and spit and air come out of our mouth. Once the tree barreled over us, we gasp for breath but nothing came to us. Pain dominates our mind so all we could do for a few seconds is lay on the ground and catch our breath. Why didn't he let me take control? I could have avoided that.
Oscar, this isn't like you, you should have-
"I" Cough. "Said." Another cough."Shut up." He gets up on his feet, wobbly, and his breathing is ragged. Even if he forgot all of our training in the heat of the moment, all of my experience should still be instilled in him. Why is he fighting like when we first met?
Everyone starts to engage the Megoliath while also batting away the smaller enemies. The field is a monochrome of snow and Grimm, but far more Grimm surrounding us than snow. Worst of all, I hear the click of an empty gun. With all of our ammo locked under the trees from earlier, we won't be able to get them in the midst of combat. I have no choice but to put all my strength into blasting past this mental wall and taking authority. Stumbling, I take control of our body and yell,"Retreat!"
Ruby is the first to hear me. Taking stock of the situation, she passes on my order. I engage a Beowolf to try to clear the way but then our legs stiffen. "I don't want you to take over. Not ever again." Oscar says behind gritted teeth trying to resist me. The Grimm in front of us swipes down and I try to block but Oscar takes control and is hit. He dodges the next attack. More Grimm start to turn their eyes on us.
Especially the Megoliath.
"Oscar this isn't the time." I take over and crush the Grimm before us, but take a bash from the Creeper behind us.
"No! I won't be like the other ones you possessed." Oscar hits back in retaliation but the Creeper still stands and knocks us back with its tail.
"We will be dead if we don't move." Once I took over there was too many surrounding us to block or evade. Their snarls announce their attack, striking us back and forward like ping pong. Our aura is down and I can taste the metallic flavor of blood. I fall down exhausted and hurting.
"Then let me move!" Oscar tries to get up, but he can't. Our physical strength has left us. I'm screaming at Oscar to let me take over while all of the Grimm's red and yellow eyes stare down at with fear, he doesn't respond to me calling him.
The Megoliath is on us with its hoof right above our head. Everyone yells out Oscar and Ruby uses her semblance but she won't be able to make it in time. Right when I got a second of control, I did the first thing I could think of to get us out of here.
I teleport away.
Author's Note: Thanks for reading. I wanted to make this fic because after seeing the episode about Ozma and Salem, I really wanted to see more about Oscar and Ozpin's relationship. I want to explore topics like: how Oscar feels after learning the truth, what does Ozpin think about his lifelong mission, how is it like for Oscar to have an old man in his head, and more. So that is what I'm going to be mainly exploring in this fic while also having side-stories in it. Who doesn't love that, huh? Please leave a review if you feel so inclined. I eat them for sustenance.
