Silverpaw felt a prodding in her side.

''Hey, Silverpaw... Hey, WaKe Up!''

Silverpaw jumped up as gracefully as a lopsided badger.

''Urgh, Tawnypaw. What do you want?''

''Your mentor needs you. You know? Ravenstalk?''

''Ok, ok," she grumbled "I'm up, I'm up.'' Silverpaw stood up and stretched some sleep out of her limbs. She blinked as the sunlight filtered into the clearing. She saw her mentor, Ravenstalk, next to the exit slope. She looked around, the clearing seemed alive as more and more cats came out of their dens. She went to the long next to the medicine cat den and drank out of it. She stretched as she walked to the other side of the hollow to the her mentor.

''What are we going today?'' She asked, trying to sound as alive and exited as she could.

''Battle training.'' Said Ravenstalk.

A shiver not excitement ran through Silverpaw's body. She was going to do some training with the other apprentices! Her mentor and her scrambled out of the dip in the earth and Silverpaw ran to the training hollow. When she got there she could see who she was training with. Greypaw, an obnoxious, stupid, big headed tom, and Frostpaw, a quiet white she cat with a gaze that makes anyone who sees it really uneasy.

''Who should go first?" Asked Greypaws mentor, Ashpelt.

''Silverpaw and Greypaw.'' Mewed Ravenstalk.

The two got into position.

"3, 2, 1, begin!"

They circled each other, for what seemed like an eternity, until Greypaw made the first move. He launched herself into Silverpaw's side, causing her to loose her footing and stagger, trying to catch her breath. Suddenly, the tom landed onto of her, class unsheathed, he grappled onto her, Silverpaw began to fall under the weight, then she had an idea. She rolled over, and her attackers grip failed. She sprang free and got into a crouch, hissing and spitting. As the grey tom got up she rammed into his die and started swiping at him, getting him over the head and ears. She tried to bite his leg, but he kicked her face and she staggered back. She managed to take a swipe with her paw to his hind leg and Greypaw flopped over onto his face. She then jumped onto his back and pinned his face on the ground.

"The fight is over!'' yowled Ravenstalk.

At the sound of her mentors yowl, she breathed, hard, shallow and fast breaths. She had never felt so... exilerated and tired. It was only pure luck that Greypaw fell over and that he was dazed enough not to get up.

''The next round will be Greypaw and Frostpaw. If your up to it Greypaw?''

''Of course!'' yowled Greypaw, shooting a furious glare at Silverpaw.

''Begin!''

Silverpaw watched as the two cats tussled. Frostpaw did quick swipes and then fell back. She also always kept eye contact, nor betraying where she was going to strike. The battle ended with Frostpaw being victorious by tripping Greypaw up and pinning him against a tree.

''Greypaw, come. We are going for some training.'' Mewed his mentor, Ashpelt. Silverpaw was just close enough to hear him mutter

''I can't believe you. Being shown up by the runt, not of one litter, oh no,but all of the apprentices!'' He spat out the last few words as if they were a piece of crowfood.

She felt bad for the young tom, his mentor was very harsh, and she wanted to tell him it was just luck, but she just wanted to get back to the hollow and bathe herself in the sunlight.

''Both of you, when you get back to camp, go to the medicine cats den. Then grab some prey and have the rest of the day off.''

The two she-cats raced back to camp and got their pick from the pile, Silverpaw took a mouse, and Frostpaw took a vole. Once they are they made their way to the medicine cats den.

''Hello Bramblefire. We just stopped by, um, so you can check our scratches we got from training...'' She said, but the tabby cat seemed to be looking right at her, but his mind was in a different place.

''Oh, um, yes! Of... Of course. Frostpaw, you and your sister go sit over there, Leafpaw will tend to you both.'' She and Frostpaw both sat down and waited for the apprentice come to them.

''Hi Leafpaw!'' Mewed Frostpaw. Silverpaw always knew she had a crush on him, though he was a medicine cat.

''Hello Frostpaw, Silverpaw, how was training? Not to bad, I presume?'' He purred.

"Just a few scratches, just want your opinion on how it is.'' He checked both the she-cats. ''Nothing to bad, just clean them yourselves, make sure they don't get any bigger, now shoo! Be rid of you! Or fear my wrath!'' he joked. Frostpaw purred in amusement and Silverpaw chuckled before they both raced out. It was just past sunhigh and the clan was sharing tounges. Just as Silverpaw settled down, a cry sounded through the camp.

''WHITEFOOT! WHITFOOT IS... IS DEAD!''
