Kristoff whistled merrily as he unhooked Sven from his sled after a day of delivering ice. While he knew that he technically no longer had the "title" of official royal ice-deliverer, there was really nothing else for him to do in the castle as Anna prepared for her wedding, coronation, and the tribute to her parents. He felt helpless as he offered his assistance, only to be gently refused, as it honestly wasn't needed. He understood; he didn't have the castle life until only a few years ago, and even then, he only ate and slept there, and had the family game night every once in a while. Still, he tried to be supportive to his fiancée whenever he could, and tried to stay out of her way when he couldn't.
Suddenly, the stable doors slammed open, causing both Sven and Kristoff to jump and cry out in surprise. The latter whirled around to see the intruder, only to see his Princess staring at him, wide-eyed and breathing heavily.
"Anna? What's wrong? What happened?"
Anna didn't respond, except to run straight at him and tackle him in a tight hug. Without even thinking, he caught her and secured her place beside him. She, in turn, started to attack his face with kisses.
"Um, Anna?" he started, between pecks. "As much as I, hmm, I love this greeting, did… did something happen?"
"You," she began, still panting, "you… must actually… really love me!"
He didn't dare laugh. This probably wasn't a laughing matter. However, a breathy chuckle might have escaped him, as he replied, "I'm sure most people who propose do actually love the other person. Now, what are you over-analysing this time?"
Slightly indignant, Anna leaned back, but still kept her firm grip on his shoulders. "I do not over-analyse!"
Kristoff raised his eyebrows in silent disbelief.
"Okay, maybe I do, sometimes," she admitted, "but I wasn't this time! I was just thinking about the last time with Elsa, and… oh my gosh…! You were trying to propose all those times!"
"Ah…" Kristoff brought her closer to him. "I see."
"And I'm so sorry! I can't believe I didn't even notice! And you weren't discouraged, either, you just tried again, and, oh my goodness, I practically accused you of trying to break up with me! But you weren't, you just tried again, and I'm so sorry for not realizing!"
"Anna, calm down," Kristoff gently commanded. "I get it. My timing was a little off. You were too preoccupied with thinking Elsa might have been crazy, asking to go-"
"I didn't think she was going crazy, I just thought she was going into dangerous territory!"
"Either way, asking to further our relationship at that time was more than a little dumb. I should've waited a little later to do so."
Anna sighed happily as she nuzzled into his shirt. "Third time's the charm, I guess?"
"Uh, more like the fifth…"
She immediately stiffened. "Fifth? You tried four other times? Wait. There was in the sled, then at the dam, then when we found Elsa again… When were the other two times?!"
"Well, before everything started, right after charades-"
"What?!" she shrieked, practically jumping away from him. "As early as then? You were trying to propose then? Why didn't I notice? How didn't I notice? Wait, what was I doing then?"
"You were trying to find out why Elsa seemed a little down," Kristoff reminded her. "And found out her word was 'ice.'"
Anna raised her hands to her face. "And I didn't notice, even then?" she cried, incredulously. "What about the other time?"
"Uhh, you know, maybe we shouldn't talk about this," Kristoff began. "How 'bout we go inside, get something to drink, and-"
"Kristoff." Anna's tone left no room for argument; she sounded too unsure for Kristoff's liking. "What was the other time?"
He sighed. "Ryder had told me of the way the Northundra men proposed, and it seemed really cool and romantic, so we set that up that night, ready by dawn. It involved a whole lot of reindeer, and flowers and butterflies…"
"What," Anna whispered, into her hands, "kind of girlfriend am I? I just left!"
Kristoff groaned slightly, not certain on the next right thing to do. Because, yeah, learning that Anna and Elsa had both just left him behind kinda hurt at the time. Looking back, he understood; Elsa was getting frantic, and maybe a bit crazy obsessed with finding her destiny, or the truth, or whatever it was, and Anna just wanted to make sure her sister was safe and sane. Still, he did think that they could have at least tried to find him and let him know they were leaving.
"I heard you had left, and I didn't even bother trying to find out why! I just…" Anna groaned into her palms, clearly embarrassed and frustrated with herself.
Her fiance smiled gently, and pulled her close to him again. "Come back here," he demanded softly. "Like I said, I could have timed it better. I just had been getting so anxious about it, that I kinda wanted to get it over with, without even thinking about what you were going through at the time. But we don't need to over-analyse this anymore. I managed to ask at the right time, and you gave me the answer that made me the happiest man in the kingdom."
"But I should have-"
"Hey. No more 'should haves' and such. Think of it this way: if you hadn't gone ahead, I wouldn't have tried looking for you later, and that means I wouldn't have been able to pick you up and save you from the earth giants."
Anna chuckled breathily. "Fine. I get it." She brought her arms around his body. "I do love you. So much."
"And I love you, just as much."
"Now… How about that 'something to drink'?"
A/N: Hey everyone! I know, it's not Jeanne, it's not even an OC story. Heck, it's even late to the Frozen party. But honestly, I wrote this a while ago, had the idea for even longer. Because, as much as I really liked the movie, it had it's flaws and plot holes. My personal biggest issue with it; WHY didn't anyone talk? There was lack of communication, and then running off, particularly on Anna's end. And I understand why she did, but there was also that lack between Elsa and others, apparently between the parents and their kids, the Northundra and the Army. The only one who got to have an important talk was Olaf, and I think he represented kids' transitions, so it made sense. Anyhoo, i know it's a movie theme, but they were getting married, and communication in marriage is so freaking important, I just thought that this needed to be addressed.
Please let me know if you agree or disagree. What nettled you in the movie?
