Chapter 5: sleepover

Sarah was fidgeting with the hem of her sweater. She was trying to muster up the courage to ask Emily something.

"Emily, you know about what Jacob and I share…No I am not going to demand explanations. Like Billy said: it's up to him to reveal this family's secret." Sarah said "But what I wanted to ask is: Would it be inappropriate if I were to sleep in the same room as Jacob?"
"Of course not silly! It will make things so much easier for the both of you. Go get a goodnight's rest, unless you plan to…"
"No no! Not in the same bed..not yet." she replied, blushing.
"Kim and Jared didn't even bother to ask. Embry found them in bed together one morning."
"Cool, though I didn't need to know that. I've got to pick up some necessities from home first, though."
Sam entered "Jake will drive you home."
"Sheesh were you listening in? You're like the wolf from red riding hood.. big ears.."
Sam almost choked on his water.
Sarah didn't know how close she was to the truth.

During the car ride Jacob turned on the radio and tapped the steering wheel, feeling happy. They sang along and made a quick stop for an ice cream. The weather was great. Life was good.

Sarah quickly showed Jacob around her apartment, while packing up.
"Nice digs."
"Thanks. It's my grandmother's apartment. I cleaned it up a bit… Maybe I should rent it to someone. Not that I need the extra cash, I just feel like you've been doing so much for me. Emily cooks nice, you fix my car,.. I wanna do something back."
"Don't think like that. We love helping you, just as you've been helping Billy. He was getting a little depressed lately, but with you around he's feeling like himself. He gets to go outside, he makes jokes again,..."
"Thanks Jake." She smiled and squeezed his hand "Billy's a great man. I love working with him. He and Sam carry this family. Their love and concern runs so deep into their veins I swear I can feel it sometimes."
"I believe you Sarah." He replied and kissed her forehead.

When everything was packed they got back to the car.
"What do you feel when you're near me?"
"Jake.. I… I don't even need to be near you to know what I feel.."
"Say it." He whispered uncertain.
"I love you Jacob Black." Sarah replied, looking him in the eyes. Slowly she inched forward to kiss him.
Jacob eagerly replied the kiss and pulled her onto his lap. His lips felt dominant, like he was claiming her, but underneath it all was a softness. "You have no idea how long I wanted to do that." He grinned.
"I asked Emily if I could sleep in your room this time. But I don't want to instigate something bigger than this kiss… yet.." she replied, blushing, something she had been doing a lot lately.
Gently he stroked a hair from her face "I'll be here forever Sarah. I'm not leaving you, ever. You're mine."
There she noticed that possessive look in his eyes again. Like a feral beast. But with just a hint of protectiveness.

Sarah unpacked her bag and carefully moved some stuff into his room, making sure she didn't disturb his things. They shoved the beds together. That night she slept like a baby.

The next morning Sarah found out he had inched a bit closer. Her head was on his chest, his arm loosely on her hip. Of course they couldn't stay in bed all day, as tempting as it was. She slowly woke him up with a kiss. "Hmm.. I could get used to this."
They took turns showering and had breakfast with the entire family, but there was something off. The air seemed tense.

Jacob said it was nothing and went to the garage to work on a car. Sarah watched him work for a while. She got a book to keep busy, but realized she had been staring at the same page for over 5 minutes. So she went back inside to try and help Emily. But Emily refused her help.
Whatever was going on, it wasn't good.
