Beach Party
Harry didn't think that this was a good idea. He and Ginny had just broken up, although they hadn't found the courage to share the news with her family yet. Harry knew that Ron would be mad if he found out.
It wasn't that he had broken his sister's heart or anything, they were still close. It was just that they've realized that they weren't well-matched.
Ginny wasn't really interested in a stable relationship yet. She wanted to have fun and focus on her career. Being a professional Quidditch player wasn't family-friendly with all the training and traveling.
A while Harry was interested in something long term and as an Auror, he had a stable career. Afterall there would always be crimes. He came to realize that he didn't necessarily want to be in a relationship with a witch.
With their breakup still fresh, he wasn't sure if going to a beach party together was a good idea.
"This is going to be so much fun," Ginny said as if she could read his thoughts.
"I don't know. Do you think it's odd that we attend the party together?" Harry asked.
"We're not going together technically, we're going there as friends with Luna."
Harry loaded a full crate of beer with bags of marshmallows. "How many people are going to be there?"
"Well, just a few friends. It's Blaise's beach house and I think Draco and Pansy are going to be there."
Harry frowned. "Friends."
"What?"
"I'm just saying, the snakes are hardly our friends."
The sun was just setting as the three of them stepped out of the fireplace. The beach house was small and dusty, it must have been years since anyone has really used it. There was a painting hanging over the fireplace. The wizard was sleeping up until Luna tickled his nose and he began cursing in Italian.
From the windows the ocean was visible. The waves provided an ambient background noise. Harry spotted Draco and Blaise near the sea, arranging stones in a circle. He couldn't fail to notice how his platinum blond hair moved in the gentle breeze.
"Are you coming?" Ginny asked, already out of the door.
He nodded. Harry lifted up the crate of beer up and carried it over the soft sand to the campfire. Draco and Blaise had managed to make a fire in the meantime. Not that it was particularly difficult for a bunch of wizards.
Luna didn't pay much attention to any of them. Before either one could say a word, she had already her sandals off and was knee-deep in the sea. Bowing down, she began collecting shells and pretty stones, not caring that her summer dress was getting wet.
Ginny closed her eyes and took a deep breath of the fresh air. Harry couldn't understand it but for some reason, she was wearing heels with her rather short dress. It didn't really bother him, but still raised questions. Who was she trying to impress? There were only Slytherins here and Draco would most likely be disowned if he socialized with a Weasley.
Putting the crate of beer down, he couldn't wait to shake the sand out of his shoes. Sitting down on a stone he took his time trying to remove every last grain of sand. Watching Draco and Blaise tend to the fire he wondered how he should greet them. They hardly were on speaking terms, he can't just pretend that they were one happy family.
"I've brought some marinated meat and salads," Pansy said, walking down to the beach.
It was already dark and she had cast Lumos so that she could make the way safely. She said down next to him and offered him a fork opening the lid of the salad.
She leaned over, giving him a good view of her well-endowed breasts. "So, I've heard that the great Potter is single again."
"What, Potter is single?" Out of nowhere, Draco was suddenly standing next to him.
His musky cologne filled his nostrils and his shampoo smelled of cardamon and sandalwood. Harry couldn't resist and inhaled deeply. He hadn't known that Draco's hair would smell so good. Was it soft as well? Like a moth drawn to the flame, he raised his hand, reaching out...
"Beer?" He quickly reached into the crate and withdrew a couple of bottles of beer to disguise the fact that he had wanted to touch Draco's hair.
Handing them out he saw Ginny from the corner of his eyes helping Blaise grill the meat. "Give us a bottle too," she asked.
Pansy reluctantly stood up and handed them the bottles. As the meat was getting close to ready, Luna rejoined them, proudly showing off the shells and stones she had collected.
Draco rolled his eyes. "What a weirdo."
"Hey, don't be mean to Luna!"
"Why, are you into her?"
"What? No!" Harry shook his head. "Have you ever heard something about common courtesy? Also, she is one of my bestfriends."
As they sat down gathered around the campfire eating their meal, it wasn't long until they had run out of beer. Draco had brought a bottle of Firewhiskey but that didn't last forever. Without anything to drink, Blaise stumbled to the cottage looking for some liquor.
He returned minutes later with a clay bottle. The label was washed off and unreadable. "I found it in the corner of the cupboard," Blasie explained.
They opened the bottle and each one of them had a gulp, handing the bottle to the next one. His throat burned and there were chunks of something in there.
