"Who would have ever believed that?," she told herself. "A beach volleyball tournament in two weeks' time, charity-sing-dance parties in three weeks… God I've become a social freak again; the good thing is I don't have to organize those events myself, not anymore."
Olivia was very much looking forward to the beach volley contest, not only because she would pair with Caitlin – the organizers at Surf Central had insisted that the teams should be composed of same-sex family members, ideally of two different generations – but also because she needed some revivifying physical exercise. She had to meet her daughter at 3pm on the beach for their very first training session. Bette and Emily would join them later, so that they could play a mock-up match together. "I wonder if Sean and Gregory are going to practise against Cole and AJ," she amusingly reflected. "That would be an exhilarating première for potential spectators. I really should ask Caitlin about this. I would be worried about Sean though. He would be the go-between once again." At that moment, she had not yet nurtured the possibility that mother Olivia and daughter Cate could play against father Gregory and son Sean, not only before but also during the real tournament. Now that she and Gregory were friends, she did not really mind. All she knew for sure was that her ex-husband used to play volleyball as though he was a professional, and Sean seemed to follow in his dad's footsteps. "Let's see how Caitlin's doing. I hope she is better than her mum."
