"Neela's okay," Coco told Titus and Ilia as she joined them around the fire, handing Eliana her scroll back and she sat on one of the logs, staring out towards Shion. "If Blake asks any of you how this went, you tell her that everything went fine. Got it?" They looked at her blankly. "Guys…"
"Got it, tell Blake that everything went horribly," Titus replied while texting.
"Not funny," Coco replied.
"I don't suppose that Beacon will be doing another out of kingdom field trip any time soon," Ilia asked.
"You guys are hilarious," Coco told them. She sighed as she took off her boots and rubbed her feet, the stress leaving her body as she relaxed. "I'm getting a drink after all of this is over."
"You know there's a pub in Shion, right?" Titus reminded her. "You were there the day before yesterday."
"Don't tempt me," Coco told him. "So what have we all learned today?"
Eliana glanced up at the sky and took a deep breath. She had been worried and stressing out all day though she hadn't let the others know it. Neela was missing that morning and all that Eliana could think was the worst possible scenario in her head. A freak Grimm attack similar to the one that had killed her father. She shook off the fear, finally relieved that they'd heard from her.
"That you're an alcoholic?" Titus asked. Coco shook her head.
"That Neela isn't very difficult to kidnap?" Ilia asked. Coco groaned.
"That tomorrow we're going to kick some ass?" Eliana asked.
"I mean, that isn't really something that we learned per se, but we will be kicking some ass tomorrow, so you aren't entirely wrong," Coco told her.
"Mistral is dangerous?" Ilia asked.
"No," Coco said.
"That you're an alcoholic?" Titus tried again.
"Alright already," Coco replied.
"That we should envy Team CBLT for getting to go out with Pyrrha and do something relatively safe and boring?" Eliana suggested.
"I was looking for more of an overview of today's events, but once again Elli, you're not wrong," Coco said.
"What do you think they got to do this week?" Eliana asked.
"Like you said before," Ilia said with a chuckle. "Probably something boring."
"Good morning everybody, I'm here with Victor 2.0 and we're going to be repeating that bit that Coco did a couple of chapters ago because why not?" Cobalt asked as he looked back and forth between the camera on his shoulder and the monitor. Tawney yawned as she slowly crept out of the bathroom and glanced over at Cobalt who watched her walk over to her dresser and search for clothes, a towel wrapped around her and her toothbrush hanging out of her mouth. "Are you ready for an exciting day of training with Mrs. Arc?"
"If you can call it exciting," Tawney told him half forcing the words out through her toothbrush. She retreated back to the bathroom and closed the door, the noise causing Bái to stir who was sleeping on Lykos shoulder. Cobalt operated the camera with the OS in his visor, allowing it to leap down and stand in front of his keyboard, staring up at him.
"That was Tawney, our resident tomboy. She secretly has a crush on me, but she won't admit it to anyone," Cobalt said beaming. "I kind of get her complaint about our training with Pyrrha not being excited. Team NITE gets to go to another kingdom and fight bandits, something that's never been done before and if it ever was, it's probably a job that should be handled by students that are at least in year 3. Always kind of seems like they get to do things that they probably shouldn't, but who are we to complain I guess, our time will come. So far all of our missions with Mrs. Arc have been Grimm related. Train crash? Grimm. Strange noises at night? Grimm. Property damage deep in the woods on the outskirts of Vale? Grimm. Grimm attack? Well, I mean that one speaks for itself, but you get the idea.
We're hoping for a challenge, but I guess we'll get there someday, right?"
"Optimistic as ever," Lykos said standing over his shoulder and looking at the small drone. "Is that a camera?"
"Indeed it is," Cobalt replied. "This is Lykos, our team's brooder."
"I don't brood," Lykos replied as he walked back to Bái who was trying to wake herself up.
"Yes he does," Cobalt whispered back to the bot. "He makes up for it by having a badass weapon and making some kind of Grimm illusions that I don't exactly understand, but whatever."
"Are you going to be playing with that thing all day?" Tawney asked exiting the bathroom again and allowing Lykos to enter.
"I'm not playing," Cobalt told her. "I'm using it to record us during our mission later so that we can watch it back and decide what we can and need to improve on."
"Playing with it, got it," Tawney repeated.
"I think it's a great idea!" Bái exclaimed.
"Bái. She's like the group's little sister… but not for Lykos… that would be weird," Cobalt said.
"Do you ever stop saying strange shit?" Tawney asked.
"Do you ever stop being condescending towards me?" Cobalt shot back.
"Fight nice!" Lykos called from the bathroom as he turned the sink's water on. Cobalt stretched as he closed his laptop and placed Victor in his pocket, standing up and moving to his bag to look through it for his scroll.
"Looking for this?" Tawney asked holding it out to him. He snatched it away.
"Where did you get this?" He asked defensively.
"Relax, you fell asleep before plugging it in, so I did it for you," she told him.
"Oh…" Cobalt replied. "Thanks." She brushed him off with a smirk and opened the door to head out of the dorm.
"Hey boss, you wanna join me to go get breakfast and pick up our weapons?" Tawney asked. He looked at her with a tinge of confusion.
"Am I dreaming?" He asked her. She furrowed her brow.
"No you asshole, I'm just trying to be nice to you for once," she said as she left. He looked at Bái who shrugged and he chased after Tawney, slamming the door behind him. They walked out of the dorm in silence, moving quickly through the cold of the outdoors as they made a beeline for the cafeteria. Tawney spotted the breakfast bar that was set up on the far end of the room and marched over, several other students moved out of the way for her.
"What's with inviting me to come along?" Cobalt asked her. "Normally you kind of go off on your own and tell me to go screw myself when I want to tag along." Tawney's neck tensed up for a moment before she took a deep breath and started filling her plate.
"I started thinking about the fact that Team NITE has been number one since the beginning of the school year and that we've only been a few steps behind the entire time. I began thinking to myself 'what do they have going on that we don't have going on' and it finally occurred to me," Tawney told him.
"Three women? Are you thinking of getting rid of Lykos?!" Cobalt cried out.
"No! They get along better than we do!" She said throwing bacon at him.
"Do they though? I know you get a little starry-eyed over Eliana and Neela, but Ilia and Titus do not get along in the slightest," Cobalt reminded her as they took their seats.
"Even if that's true, if we can learn to cooperate with each other better than they can, we might stand a chance at toppling them," Tawney told him. "And I do not get nuts over Neela."
"So you pretend to like me?" Cobalt asked. Tawney rolled her eyes and shrugged.
"Who says I'm pretending?" She asked chuckling with her mouth full. Lykos and Bái sat down next to Cobalt.
"What's going on?" Lykos asked.
"Tawney is having an identity crisis," Cobalt said.
"That's not true!" She exclaimed.
"What was she saying?" Bái asked.
"We need to work on our togetherness or something like that," Cobalt replied.
"Camaraderie?" Lykos asked.
"Synergy?" Bái added.
"Coaction?" Lykos asked. Cobalt nodded.
"Yeah yeah, all of that," Cobalt said.
"It's the only way we'll pass Team NITE," Tawney explained again. "Wait, how did you two get here so fast?"
"I showered last night," Lykos said. He glanced at Bái who blushed.
"Anyway, Tawney thinks it will be that simple," Cobalt said.
"I never said that!" She yelled. She stood up and leaned across the table, her face inches from his own. "You don't understand how badly I want, no, how badly I need to be better than Neela! When I lived on the streets in Haven I was a fighter and I was considered the Maniac! I was number one, I felt like I was on top of the world! To come here and be less than the best isn't acceptable! I train on my own for hours on end, I've had so many lessons with Yang and yet I'm still here climbing after Team NITE!"
"Do we need to be the best?" Lykos asked. Tawney looked at him.
"Didn't you hear what I just said?" Tawney asked.
"Maybe your role has changed," Lykos suggested. "Sometimes you have to just do the job that's asked of you and it's good enough. I didn't come here expecting to be the best and I get that you did, but when Bái is asked to put up a wall of ice to protect us from an attacking Grimm, do you think that she's upset later when you and Cobalt deal the killing blow or was it enough that she kept us from danger?"
"I understand what you're saying, but you can't tell me that there's anything wrong with me wanting to be the best!" She shouted.
"There's nothing wrong with that," Bái said. "But you can't let it consume you." Cobalt looked at Bái with a raised eyebrow as Lykos finished his slice of toast and stood up.
"We should get going," Lykos said. "We need to get our weapons and meet Pyrrha at the airship landing in the next forty-five minutes." Lykos and Bái left ahead of Cobalt and Tawney who followed after them.
"Anybody know the rundown for today's mission?" Cobalt asked.
"Don't you ever listen when Pyrrha gives us our briefings?" Bái asked.
"Sometimes," Cobalt said as the doors almost hit him on the way out of the building. "Last night I was researching something for a new project that I'm working on so I was a little distracted."
"And I wonder why we can't surpass Team NITE," Tawney groaned.
"I heard that!" Cobalt called out. They collected their weapons and Dust, meeting Pyrrha with several minutes to spare and Cobalt removed his camera again, placing it on his shoulder.
"Hello again, students! How are you all doing today?" Pyrrha asked.
"Pretty good, I have a question Mrs. Arc," Cobalt replied.
"What would that be?" She inquired.
"What's the plan for today again?" Cobalt asked. Pyrrha looked at him slightly disappointed and took a step away from him. "I'm sorry!"
"Would one of the other students going with today like to remind Cobalt what the plan is once we get to Forever Fall?" Pyrrha asked them as she entered the airship with CBLT close behind.
"We're to locate the Grimm that's been causing issues in the area and take them out," Bái said. "Nothing too crazy."
"Should be pretty run of the mill, but if you can't listen to your briefings properly it might start affecting your grade," Pyrrha told Cobalt. "When you graduate students and you're sent out for your missions, with the exception of the notes provided by the kingdom's Headmaster on your scroll, his or her briefing will be the only time that you are presented with the information in entirety. Understand, Cobalt?"
"Yes ma'am," he replied with a nod as the ship took off and they made the short trip over to Forever Fall. They landed in the middle of the forest where it was obvious that several Grimm had attacked. The earth was torn up and several trees had been broken off at the base, giant splinters and pikes of wood remained where the trees had once stood. Cobalt took a look around, his visor telling him that the breaks weren't normal for Grimm that were native to the area. "Should we be concerned about this?"
"This is rather strange Grimm behavior," Lykos told Pyrrha as they examined the area and looked back towards the river where claw marks could be noted and a single thick line that traced the soft earth between them. "The beast must have taken a dip and flown off."
"What kind of Grimm though?" Cobalt asked.
"Nevermore?" Bái inquired.
"Has claws, not talons," Lykos noted.
"Griffon?" Bái suggested.
"There's only one set of prints, it would walk on two feet, not four," Cobalt suggested.
"Mrs. Arc, it looks like we found something," Lykos called back to her as she was investigating the trees themselves with Tawney.
"What is it?" Pyrrha asked.
"Prints," Lykos said. "But we can't seem to figure out what it would be."
"It would have to travel quite some distance, but could it be a Lancer?" Tawney suggested.
"But why would a Lancer do this to the trees, they burrow in the sides of hills, right?" Bái pointed out.
"Crash landing?" Lykos suggested.
*MOVEMENT SEVERAL HUNDRED FEET TO THE SOUTH*
"Maybe," Pyrrha said. "But it wouldn't match the markings on the ground."
"What if it was just a Beowulf dragging something?" Bái added.
"They can't fly," Lykos said.
"Maybe it exited the river further down?" Bái said. "We could go and check it out."
"I'll go with you," Tawney said following her.
"What do you want me to do?" Lykos asked.
"Look for any other telling marks that might give us a clue to what we're dealing with," Pyrrha instructed him. He nodded and was off, she turned to give instructions to Cobalt, but he was nowhere to be found. "Cobalt?"
"I think he went deeper into the woods away from the river while we were talking," Tawney said.
"I'll find him, you students keep working," Pyrrha said. Bái looked up at Tawney.
"Do you really hate Cobalt?" Bái asked.
"What gave you that idea?" Tawney asked.
"You're always giving him grief. Yeah, he can be a bit inattentive sometimes. He's lewd. He needs to work on getting better at leading, but everything that he does, he does with us in mind and he tries to do it for our good. Why are you so abrasive?" Bái asked.
"When did you and Lykos turn into therapists?" Tawney asked. Bái shrugged. "I just want him to take things seriously. If he only put into training as much time as he did reading his comics or tinkering with his camera or visor I feel like we really could be the number one team!"
"There's something more you're not saying, isn't there?" Bái asked. "What is it about being number one to you? You said during breakfast that it meant the world to you, but your eyes were dark. You didn't really take pride in being the best, you were forced into that position, weren't you?" Tawney looked at her with wide trembling eyes, unable to open her mouth for a response.
"Look, I…"
"Help!" Came a blood-curdling scream from the woods that caught both the attention of the girls and Lykos.
"Cobalt?!" Lykos shouted in return as he took off quickly, using his whip to pull himself forward. The girls chased behind, the three of them reaching the top of a short hill as Cobalt raced back towards the river between the three of them.
"It's Ozzy Osbourne!" Cobalt screamed as he fumbled with his sword and rolled to a stop, activating it as his teammates watched him.
"What?" They yelled at him in unison and he pointed back the other direction, about a hundred feet away stood a large Grimm that was easily a few feet taller than a Beringel, the hybrid of a man and a bat, it stood on two long legs and had grandiose wings that were attached to the back of its arms. Its chest, neck, shoulders, and back heavily plated with bone as was its face, two horns protruded up from the bone mask, making it appear more demon than Grimm. A long tail dragged the ground behind it. Pyrrha's shield bounced off of its torso with little to no effect and as it noticed the others it opened its mouth and screamed, the screech seemed like an endless high pitched sonar of nails scraping across a chalkboard. They covered their ears, a mistake as it left them unable to balance properly when it flapped both wings at them, throwing them away.
"Get back!" Pyrrha waved at them. It took off towards her as she dove, missing the claws of its feet as it flew low and tried to grab her, moving at incredible speed over the river and destroying the trees in its way without a second thought.
"What is that thing?" Lykos asked as they all found their feet.
"It appears new!" Pyrrha noted. "We can't kill it!"
"Are you insane?" Cobalt asked.
"Oobleck will want to examine it, and unless you know a way to kill Grimm without having them disappear, we need it alive," Pyrrha told them.
"What about Lykos?" Tawney asked.
"My mother gave me this pelt, it had something to do with her semblance," Lykos told them.
"Then no, we don't," Cobalt said.
"It's coming back around!" Bái announced.
"Then call Oobleck! We can at least keep it distracted!" Tawney yelled at Pyrrha. The beast flew for them once more, Tawney tackled Bái as it flew low again, Cobalt knelt and fired, the blast throwing it off course and it crashed into the ground with a mighty thud, the earth torn apart as it slid to a stop.
"I said don't kill it!" Pyrrha yelled. "And it's not that cut and dry, he'll have to fly here from the other side of Vale!"
"I guarantee that wasn't enough to kill it," Cobalt told her. It screamed again and they all covered their ears. "See! It's fine!"
"Bái, can you keep it on the ground until we figure out what to do with it?" Lykos asked.
"Only if you guys can keep it down long enough for me to do so," Bái replied.
"Without killing it!" Pyrrha reminded them.
"We'll do our best!" Tawney said as she took off running for it with Cobalt and Lykos close on her heels.
"Tawney, I know you think that beating the hell out of everything is the right solution, but…" Before Cobalt could finish his words the monster had suddenly found its strength again, batting Tawney into Cobalt and they both flew away as Lykos zeroed in, examining it and creating a replica of the beast. The bat stood, screaming at the decoy as Lykos grunted and looked back at his team.
"Hurry up, I can't hold an image this large for long against something this strong!" Lykos told them.
"Right!" Tawney replied as she tore past. She used her tonfas to throw herself into the air, punching the beast in the jaw as she reached its face, the illusion-shattering and reminding the creature that it was fighting humans and not another Grimm for dominance. It stumbled away, hissing and slapping her away again with its wing, flapping furiously to place distance between him and his opponents but Lykos had found solace behind a tree and Bái had dug in with ice. Cobalt slid by before slamming his sword into the earth.
"Tawney?!" Cobalt shouted.
"Fine, just keep him busy, right?" She asked.
"Right!" Cobalt replied as he formed his clone and sent him in to try and keep the thing busy.
"You have a plan yet?" Lykos asked Cobalt. Cobalt thought it over, his visor running numbers quickly before him and he read them off silently.
"We keep it busy I guess," Cobalt offered. "Keep a steady barrage of shurikens trained on it. Tawney, I'll need a little assistance." She looked at him, thinking about the words that Bái had said to her about him. Why did he get under her skin so badly, he wasn't all that bad of a leader! She smirked.
"You got it!" She replied. She ran to him and he pointed to a large tree to his left.
"Think you can knock that down towards the Grimm?" Cobalt asked.
"Can I?" She asked sarcastically.
"Can you?" He asked.
"Shut up," Tawney replied as Cobalt chuckled. She took off with a grin, Cobalt turning and preparing to fire at a tree behind the beast as Bai threw a flurry of ice projectiles at it. The bat was quickly becoming aggravated, using its wings to block its body from the endless attack and screeched again.
"Now Tawney!" Cobalt yelled. The tree toppled with a single blast with both of her weapons connected, it tumbled towards the creature which saw it at the last second, flapping to fly back quickly but into the tree crashing down from Cobalt's shot. It cried out in pain, a louder ear-shattering scream than before and Lykos covered his ears, his shuriken slamming into the ground around him as Bái slid in and attempted to freeze its feet. The Grimm noted the fact quickly, the light and smoke trailing from its eyes burning bright red and growing. It threw both wings down, launching into the air and sending ice debris all about as Pyrrha rejoined them.
"I contacted Oobleck," Pyrrha informed them. "How's it going here?"
"The first plan failed," Cobalt told her.
"What's plan 'B'," Pyrrha asked him.
"I haven't exactly gotten that far," Cobalt told her. The creature warned them of its return with a call from high above.
"You may want to think of something," Pyrrha told him. "I'm only here to help if you absolutely need it and depending on the severity, it might affect your grade."
"I'm aware of that much," Cobalt replied.
"Scatter!" Lykos shouted. Bái covered herself, Lykos, and Tawney as they dove out of the way, the beast using its feet first before leaping off and swinging its tail around, swatting at Cobalt and Pyrrha who both dodged the swipe. It swung down its fists against the dome, screeching at Pyrrha and Cobalt as they approached, the pitch suddenly dropping and the sound waves themselves tossed them into the woods.
"Can't we just tell Oobleck what the damn thing was like?" Cobalt asked Pyrrha.
"He needs to be able to examine it Cobalt," Pyrrha told him once again. Cobalt's eyes lit up after a moment.
"We'll kill it if there's no other option, right?" Cobalt asked. Pyrrha nodded. Cobalt tossed his scroll to Pyrrha.
"What are you doing?" She asked. He double checked the camera on his shoulder and took off.
"Send Oobleck the link for my stream. If we do have to kill it, he'll at least get something!" Cobalt called back to her. The beast still worked on the ice, its ear twitching as it noted Cobalt drawing near again but he rolled out of the way as it attempted another sonar attack. This pissed off the monster even further, it moved away from the barrier and made its way towards Cobalt who stood stoically, staring it in the eyes as it bent down to scream at him.
"Cobalt, what are you doing?" Tawney asked as the ice shattered, Lykos making sure Bái was okay.
"Watch Tawney," Cobalt told her. She stared at him long and hard. Everything that he does, he does with us in mind and he tries to do it for our good. What was this feeling? Had Cobalt been holding back this entire time. Watch Tawney… "This is what it looks like when I get serious."
"Lykos, what's he doing?" Tawney asked.
"They don't just let anybody in Beacon," Lykos said with a smirk waiting to see what would happen next. "Maybe he listened to what you said this morning." Cobalt's eyes searched the bat's. I'm always listening, Tawney, and I want to beat Team NITE just as bad as you do. It's the only way I'll become a hero after all. The beast swung and Cobalt blocked it with the flat of his sword, striking it back and sliding through its legs. It sniffed and snarled in confusion, turning to try and face him.
"Tawney! Bái! His tail is strong, but if we can pin it, we might be able to keep him grounded!" Cobalt told them. "He won't have as much strength to free it like his legs!"
"Got it!" Tawney yelled switching out her clips for ice.
"It'll have to be quick!" Lykos said.
"Bái, shield me!" Cobalt yelled out as he deflected another swing and stuck his sword through its wing, stopping it abruptly and it shrieked at the weapon pinning it. She tossed the ice kite shield to him and he rolled under the beast's backswing, taking a blow from a follow through and landing on his back, rolling quickly to avoid its claw. Lykos sprinted for Cobalt, leading the Grimm to swing out at him and allowing Cobalt to complete his plan, slamming the shield through the other wing. "Now!"
"Right!" Bái shouted.
"Got it!" Tawney called out. She and Bái barraged the monster's tail with ice until it was covered in a thick coat, the bat finally freeing its wings and swinging back to look at the ice restraint.
"How long should that hold?" Cobalt asked as he grabbed his sword out of the ground and rejoined his team, the Grimm had ripped its wings in order to break free.
"Probably until Oobleck gets here, so I can manage to keep him from moving," Bái said. A screeching came from high above them and they all glanced at one another. Pyrrha looked up and watched as it circled.
"Another one?" Pyrrha asked herself as she formed her rifle and watched it for a moment before taking a shot. The Dust shot blasted through the creature's shoulder and it dove towards Pyrrha, she rolled out of the way, spinning her rifle into its Xiphos form and kept it from getting close to the first, batting away each blow from it with her shield. It threw her away with its wings, sending her towards a tree that she planted her feet against, using her polarity to launch herself back, landing in a kneeling pose and throwing her shield frisbee style. It wedged in its chest and the bat screamed, prompting the other to scream as well and thrash.
Pyrrha managed three more shots before it reached her, she scrambled away as it flew for her, the shield still lodged, unwilling to fall out.
"Tawney!" Pyrrha yelled.
"Right!" Tawney shouted.
"You said not to kill it!" Cobalt yelled at her. Pyrrha chuckled.
"We only need one of them to live," she replied. Tawney braced herself as she ran for the creature, it landed by the river and Lykos sped past his teammate, sliding to a stop as he forced his illusion on it.
"Go!" Lykos yelled as she ran past. Bái used her powers to create platforms that Tawney navigated without losing momentum, connecting her tonfas and smiling as she placed them against the shield.
"This is going to suck for one of us, and I'm not going to let it be me!" Tawney shouted as she fired. Pyrrha's shield sliced clean through it and came out through its back, it hit its knees before it was freed of the illusion and fired its sonar attack at her, tossing her away and Lykos moved quickly to help her land on her feet. It flew up into the air once more, looking specifically for Tawney and singling her out.
"That wasn't enough?" Bái asked. Pyrrha rushed in as it swept down, catching her shield at the last second as it returned to her and blocking the feet above them. Pyrrha threw her shield again as it flew away from them, it crashed against the plating on its chest.
"Get back, I can take care of the rest!" Pyrrha told them. A large blast of fire exploded in its face, aggravating the monster as it looked around for its new target.
"Look!" Lykos yelled pointing. An airship was coming in and Oobleck stood on the edge of the doorway, his flame thrower offering a small orange blaze from the end as he looked down at them, the ship circling around.
"Dr. Oobleck!" Pyrrha exclaimed. The ship came in closer to the ground as the bat attacked again, Oobleck batted it away with his club allowing Pyrrha a shot at its back and she took it with her rifle, it shrieked in pain one last time before Oobleck launched another projectile that blew a hole in and killed it, the Grimm crashed into the ground and slid a ways, taking out trees before coming to a stop a hundred feet or so away.
"I'm sorry that I couldn't have been here sooner students, but I was in the middle of giving a lecture at the expo center on the other side of Vale and had my ringer off initially. It wasn't until I had a moment to step away that I had seen the video that was sent to me. I ended the lecture as soon as I could and called in a favor, coming straight here even before being able to get a fourth cup of coffee. Mrs. Arc, Mr. Thénard, Ms. Lung, Mr. Asimi, Ms. Lupara, what are we looking at?" Oobleck spit out quickly before he even hit the ground.
"That thing," Cobalt said with a point. Oobleck walked past all of them without stopping, his weapon becoming a thermos again as he took a sip and looked at the beast that was still struggling tirelessly to try and escape the ice.
"Yes! Very good! Fascinating! This reminds me of the first time that Port and I had encountered a Beowulf. At this point, there was no collection of Grimm names, and so I took it upon myself to begin naming all that we encountered, what their habits and patterns were, weaknesses and the like. We were walking along in a meadow and I asked Peter 'what he would do if a Beowulf came along', since it was the only one that we knew the supposed name of at the time, and he told me that he wouldn't be afraid of it and would try capturing it, though I wasn't sure that I believed him entirely. I continued on without him as I rambled on about the origins of the Beowulf's name and when I turned to see if he had any questions, he was gone. I returned to find that he had managed to catch one by tying a rope around its tail and tying the other end to a tree, and when I asked him how he had done such a thing without the beast resisting or attacking him, he said that a bird had distracted the Grimm, which, as I think we all know, is a completely ridiculous notion!" Oobleck declared.
"What did he say?" Cobalt asked.
"Camazotz!" Oobleck shouted with a finger in the air. "A new species indeed, unlike anything that we've ever seen before, which is both a fascinating and utterly terrifying discovery!"
"Where would this…?" Tawney began.
"Camazotz!" Oobleck yelled again.
"Right. Where would the Camazotz have come from?" Tawney finished.
"There were only two people ever, that were known to have created new Grimm. Otherwise, it is entirely impossible, but both of those people are dead and have been deceased for quite some time," Oobleck replied. "A man by the name of Merlot, and the more obvious of the two, Salem!"
"What does this mean overall?" Pyrrha asked. He stepped aside with her and walked off a ways.
"That is something that will need to be discussed with both you and Goodwitch at a later time," he told her. They looked back at the students and Oobleck approached them quickly. "You students should be quite pleased with the work that you did. Capturing a Grimm, as opposed to killing it, especially a new species which you know nothing about, is a challenge that you succeeded in completing, and you should be extremely proud of yourselves. Scientific work has been done today and it will go down in the history books!"
"Yes!" Tawney exclaimed. She shook Cobalt by the shoulders.
"Calm down Maniac," he replied. She smirked at him.
"I finally did something that Neela hasn't done! We should celebrate!" Tawney declared.
"I wonder how Team NITE is doing," Bái pondered.
"Wonder how…?" Started Cobalt. "We just fought that crazy ass bat looking…"
"Camazotz!" Oobleck declared to them as the students made their way to the airship. "It is a bit strange that the second beast didn't dissipate upon death…"
"We could have died!" Tawney yelled.
"Don't be so dramatic," Lykos told her.
"We're a good team, we were fine," Bái said.
"Seriously, let's go celebrate!" Tawney told them.
"Where?" Cobalt asked.
"I know a place…" She said.
"We're not old enough to drink," Bái replied.
"Lykos, tell your girlfriend to stop being such a killjoy," Tawney replied.
"No," Lykos answered.
"Where would you rather go?" Cobalt asked Bái.
"Bowling?" Bái offered. Lykos nodded.
"Sounds good to me," Lykos agreed.
"You're just saying that because you're dating her," Tawney groaned.
"I'm saying that because it's not illegal," Lykos said. They all chuckled with the exception of Tawney as their ride took off.
"Hilarious," Tawney told them. "Hilarious."
CBLT discovered a new Grimm, but that might be bad news for Remnant. Next Week, Chapter 79 - Lancers!
