67. Adoption

Atlanta's birth resulted from what I suspect was a medical experiment. She is fatherless, no less, as in not knowing even who her father – her root – was. And then she was adopted by a non-relative as a small child, who would not be able to show appreciable skills and/or fame that would bring honour to the family of the adopter, therefore countering the stigma of the adoption somewhat.

But, although a rather absentee adoptive mother from my impression thus far, the woman who has been raising Atlanta does take pride in her daughter's achievements….

`Or are all those badges of honour displayed prominently in the vestibule Atlanta's way of bringing honour to her adoptive mother's name?`

I swallow back some bile.

Seen from any angle, Atlanta's situation is bad, in the perspective of Asgardian culture. But she seems to be accepted and rather contented here, in Midgard.

And that, surprisingly enough, especially given our brief acquaintanceship, makes me glad that she is a Midgardian, not Asgardian.

Still, a tiny part of my heart wishes that she had been there with me as I grew up, to become my friend – only my friend, as the Warriors Three and Sif are Thor's.
