Darkness in the Light: Sirius won't be Lord Black but at the same time will not just fall off to the side.

GL: No, most of the first year is canon but I will be throwing new twists in for the later years.

Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter

Voldemort was angry, no beyond that he was seething with rage. All his planning, the research, the magic, was starting to turn out to be a waste as he stared at the empty room at the end of the maze. He had thought Dumbledore had finally given in to his age when he noticed the alarms along the third floor door way hadn't been re armed, of course he had Quirrell check for new ones just incase. But now that he was here at the end he found nothing, no stone, no Dumbledore waiting, nothing.

Quirrell shivered as he felt his masters rage push against his skull, making him start to drop to his knees. He knew why his master was upset but not what to do to make the rage subside. As he hit the floor he clutched his hands tightly, doing what he could to stay conscious.

"Get the boy." The ghostly voice of Voldemort said as he anger started to lessen. "Dumbledore must have told him where the stone is."

"Y-y-yes Master." Quirrell said with a shaky breath as he stood and made his way out.

"M-m-mr. Potter." Harry looked up from packing his bag at the Defence Professor. "P-p-p-please stay for a m-m-m-moment."

Harry cocked an eyebrow. "The Headmaster wanted to see me before lunch Professor." Both brows went up when he saw Quirrell flinch.

"I-i-it will only t-t-take a m-m-m-inute." Quirrell said.

Sighing Harry turned and gave Terry a nod to go on without him, as Terry closed the door Harry turned back to Quirrell. "How can I help yo-"

As the door closed Quirrell whipped out his wand and ropes leapt out of his wand and wrapped around Harry, the force knocked the boy to the ground. Quirrell stalked around his desk to stand over Harry. "Where is the stone Potter?" Harry noticed his voice was sure and didn't have the submissive edge it normally did.

"What stone?" Harry asked.

"Don't play coy with me, I know you're involved." Quirrell snapped. "You want me to believe it was a coincidence that you were there before I broke in to steal the stone."

Harry was trying to figure out what Quirrell was talking about. "I don't know anything." As he said the words he felt his necklace heat up.

"How are you doing this?" Quirrell demanded. "How can you block me so easily?"

"Let me speak to him." Harry jearked his head around as he heard the new voice.

"Master, no your not…" Quirrell started to say but flinched. "Yes Master." Placing his wand on the table he turned his back to Harry and began to unravel his turban. Harry flinched back as the final piece of cloth fell and he saw a morphed face in the back of Quirrell's head.

"What?" Harry whispered.

"We meet again Potter." The face said with a dark chuckle, Harry cocked an eyebrow and shook his head, trying to comprehend what this was. "Oh don't recognize me?" It chuckled again. "I suppose you were rather young the last time we met." When Harry made no response it chuckled again. "The night your parents died."

Harry's eyes went wide. "Voldemort." He barley whispered but the face chuckled.

"Correct." Voldemort answered. "Now where is the stone boy?"

"You're dead." Harry said a bit firmer.

"You think a child could really kill me?" Voldemort said amused. "Whatever happened that night may have put me in this state but know this boy." His voice rose. "Once I get that stone and a new body I will deal with you like I did your worthless parents." Quirrell had bent down so Voldemorts face was close to Harrys.

At those words Harry snapped, leaning back Harry used all his strength to headbutt the back of Quirrell's head. "AHHHH!" Quirrell screamed as he fell forward, his arms flying back to grab his head. "It burns Master!"

Harry quickly scrambled up onto his feet, he noticed the back of Quirrell's head seemed to have been burned but shook it off as he ran and began kicking the man's head and face. Quirrell grunted in pain from the blows and reached out to grab Harry's leg. "Stop him you fool!" Voldemort yelled. When Harry caught a leg he pulled to drop Harry to the ground, Harry twisted as he fell so one of his captured hands fell on the man's throat.

"It burns!" Quirrell yelled again, this time Harry could see that the area under his hand was glowing and seemingly burning to ash.

"What are you doing!?" Voldemorts screamed as Quirrell's voice began to die out. "Stop this!"

"Die you son of a bitch." Harry grunted through clenched teeth as he squeezed with all his might.

With an inhuman wail a dark shadow shot out of Quirrell, startling Harry and making him fall back on his butt. It wailed as it circled the room before flying straight at Harry, the young Lord felt a massive chill as it collided with him before he was overcome and fell into unconsciousness.

Waking with a start Harry bolted up and took in everything, he wasn't in the Defence classroom anymore. Judging by the room he was in he guessed the Hospital Wing, he was also no longer tied up.

"Oh thank god." Harry turned to see Sirius sitting up in his chair. "Poppy! Albus, he's awake!"

"Stop yelling!" Poppy yelled as they came around a curtain. "Don't think I won't bounce you right out of here if you cause a disturbance Sirius."

"How do you feel Harry?" Dumbledore asked.

"Fine sir." Harry replied, he felt somewhat weak but overall fine. "What happened?"

Albus nodded. "Poppy please give us a moment." The nurse huffed but nodded and walked out. "Perhaps you could tell us what happened first Harry?" He would have liked to be alone but he knew there was no way he could get Sirius to leave.

Harry nodded. "Professor Quirrell asked me to stay after class, I told him you wanted to see me and he said it would only take a minute. After the last student left and closed the door he used a spell to tie me up in ropes and started asking about a stone." Harry watched for any sign Dumbledore knew what he was talking about. "When I told him I didn't know he eventually dropped his turban to revel a face in the back of his head, it spoke to me and told me it was Voldemort." Sirius gasped but Dumbledore didn't react. "It also asked about a stone but when Quirrell dropped close enough I head-butted him and tried to escape, he tackled me but when he made contact he seemed to get burned. After a bit of screaming a ghost, or at least something along that line, shot out of him and circled the room before passing through me and leaving me unconscious." He didn't need them to know he attempted to kill the man and by their faces they bought his story. "Could it really be him sir?" Harry dropped his voice to seem weak. "And what is this stone they kept asking about?"

Dumbledore sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose. "I do believe it was him Harry, or at least a shadow of his former self."

"How is that possible?" Sirius asked.

"Voldemort researched and used some very dark magic's my boy." Dumbledore replied. "I cannot say precisely what he has done but I am not surprised." He let out a sigh and shook his head.

"And the stone?" Harry asked, trying not to sound to eager. "He said it would help him gain a body."

"Have either of you heard of the Philospher's stone?" Dumbledore asked, Harry shook his head.

"Isn't that the stone that can turn materials to gold through Alchemy?" Sirius asked, he remembered vaugly hearing about it in school.

Dumbledore nodded. "Created by my friend Nicholas Flamel but what few know is it is also able to create an elixir that will extend ones life."

"Really?" Harry asked.

"Yes my boy, a few months ago he contacted me saying something or someone was trying to break through his wards." Dumbledore sat back. "He feared they were after the stone, so he asked me to hide it away. From what you have said I believe it must have been Quirrell possessed by the spirit of Voldemort attempting to get the stone." Harry nodded.

"That's whats hidden in the third floor." Harry said, Sirius looked confused but Dumbledore nodded.

"Quite so." The Headmaster said. "And on that note, the reason I called for you Harry was to talk about the stone."

"Sir I honestly had no knowledge about the stone." Harry replied, which was true. "Now I will admit I was curious and attempted to pass the challenges to see what was on the other side." Sirius still was confused but grinned when he heard Harry was getting into mischief. "Myself along with the W twins, Fred and George, went together and got past the chess puzzle. However as you know from Halloween I have experience with trolls and when I smelled that familiar scent we left." Dumbledore hummed in thought. "I won't lie that I wanted to try again but I couldn't find a way for three students to get past a troll."

"I see." Dumbledore said, it wasn't what he wanted to hear but he could read the minds of the twins and check that it was true.

"So what now sir?" Harry asked.

"I will keep an eye out." Dumbledore answered. "And do what I can to discover how Voldemort did this and a way to destroy him for good."

Harry nodded. "Alright, now I think I will lay down for a bit."

"Of course." Dumbledore said with a smile as he stood. "Come Sirius let's give the boy some peace and quiet." He patted Sirius's shoulder.

Sirius looked at Harry then Dumbledore and sighed, he didn't want to leave but knew he really wasn't supposed to be here. "I'll be around if you need me Harry."

Harry nodded as they left, he waited a beat before he gripped the sheets of the bead hard. "He's alive. Harry thought. "That bastard is alive." He had never dreamed that Voldemort would be alive, part of him was angry but another part of him was excited. He never hoped he would get revenge for his parents but now, now he had a chance. "Once I get out I will start researching what can be done about spirits and ghosts." He would destroy Voldemort once and for all.

There were a lot of whispers once Harry got out of the Hospital Wing, no one knew what happened but they all knew Quirrell was gone. The strongest rumor was he attacked Harry and the boy fought back and defeated him, then Dumbledore handed him to the Auror's. Harry denied any commit to his classmates but that just fueled the fire of the rumors.

Dumbledore took over the Defence classes as it was pointless to find a replacement that late in the year. Other than that nothing of real note happened the rest of the school year, Harry's gambling ring stayed fruitful and Dumbledore had said since so many students seemed to enjoy it he would not attempt to forbid it, much to the ire of McGonagall.

Harry found many books on ghosts, spirit's and wraiths, along with several ways to banish them. Now all he had to do was locate Voldemort and he could be rid of the man for good. What made it better was Harry knew the mirror was somehow connected to the Philosophers Stone. He couldn't trust anyone with that knowledge yet but once he could he would work on getting the stone out and use it.

Harry sat aboard the Hogwarts, last night had been the Farwell feast and it had been surprising to the older years. Apparently with Snape gone many of the points had been closer, Slytherin still held their winning streak for Quidditch and won the Quidditch Cup but Ravenclaw pulled ahead with house points and won the House Cup. Even he would admit it was a fun victory party that night, though he could have done without all the girls wanting to hug and cuddle up with him. Now sitting in the compartment he looked over at Theo, the twins had run off to do whatever it is they do.

He had been thinking a lot about how to deal with Voldemort, people would always be watching him so he couldn't just run off on a grand chase. He was going to start needing help soon and for that he was going to have to start trusting people. "Theo." The boy looked up from his book. "What are your plans for the week?"

"Nothing." Theo answered. "I will see father tonight and catch up but other then that I have made no plans."

Harry nodded and reached into his pocket for a scrap piece of parchment, something he started to carry after the maze. He then pulled out a quill and scratched his home on it then stood and showed it to Theo. "I want you to meet with me here tomorrow."

Theo looked surprised but nodded. "No problem, can I ask what for?"

Harry began ripping the paper up and then set it on the ground before pulling his wand he incinerated it. "My home is hidden under a Fidelius Charm." Harry said in explanation.

"Can I ask what this is about?" Theo asked.

"Not here." Harry said, as if on cue the door was opened and the Twins strolled in.

"Gents." They said in unison.

"Got quite a few questions if our little business will be up and running again next year." Fred said as the dropped down into seats.

"What did you burn?" George asked.

"Nothing." Harry replied. "And yes, Dumbledore said so many people enjoyed it and the Quidditch attendance was the highest it's ever been so we can continue." It was true as every house, even the ones not playing were showing up to watch the results.

"Wonderful." Fred said but both sported large grins, they loved the extra income.

Theo walked through the floo in his home, the family elves coming behind him with his luggage. He walked down the hall towards his father's study, where he was sure the man was waiting. Walking the dark halls he passed several paintings of his ancestors but all remained quiet as he walked, well aware he had to speak to the Patriach before anything else. Arriving at the lavish dark Cherrywood doors Theo knocked firmly.

"Enter." He heard his father call out and he entered, standing just behind the door and waiting as he shut it. Edward Nott was an older man compared to other fathers of children Theo's age, despite that he was rather young looking. His black hair peppered with grey was well maintained and showed no signs of thinning while his short pointed beard held no signs of greying. He wore a thick robe over a woolen suit, Theo knew his father always seemed to be suffering a chill and thought nothing of it even though the room was rather warm. "Theodore." Edwards said with a nod to his son. "Come sit." He gestured to the chair across from his desk.

"Hello Father." Theo said as he made his way to the chair and sat.

"How were your grades?" Edward asked.

"Very good, I am fifteenth in my class." Theo reported, Edward nodded.

"Of the Slytherin's?" Edward pulled out his wand and floated over a glass decorum with something, wine Theo guessed.

"First." Theo said. "Draco was close but after Snape left he didn't do as well in potions." Edward nodded.

"How is Vector doing as your Head of House?" Edward hadn't meet her and was curious.

"Stern, she doesn't put up with any bullying or horseplay but sticks behind us." Theo reported. "I know she's even backed some for things she was sure they did."

Edward nodded. "Good, a proper Slytherin." Edward poured a glass. "Snape coddled them too much." He took a sip. "What of your little business with Potter?"

"We did very well." Theo answered. "And the Headmaster has allowed us to continue with it next year." Theo licked his lips. "Harry has asked to see me tomorrow, even told me where he lived."

Edward paused and placed his drink down. "Really?" He hummed. "How would you describe your friendship with him."

"As I told you at Christmas he trust me enough." Theo said without giving the details away. "More than the Weasley Twins or his Ravenclaw mates."

"Good." Edward said and turned to look at his son. "Despite what others will say you will do what will prosper this family." His son knew about his choices in life and he cared not. "No matter what do you understand?" Theo gulped but nodded. "Then tomorrow you will see what Potter wants and if it is fruitful help him."

"Yes father." Theo said and stood. "I will see you at supper." He turned and left the room.

Theo was surprised at how warm and welcoming the Potter Manor was, he felt Harry would live somewhere more neutral or depressing. "How's your father?" Harry asked him as they sat in the living room.

"Well." Theo replied as he looked around.

"Good." Harry said with a nod. "I'm sure you're wondering why I called you here today?"

"Somewhat." Theo said with a bit of a chuckle.

"As you can see from our time in Hogwarts I am starting something new in the Wizarding World." Harry began. "Eventually I will branch out and even start investing in other fields, to do this I need someone I can trust to help me."

Theo sat up in his seat. "And you want me?"

"Your father is seen as a man who was a follower of Voldemort." Theo shivered. "And while you still have a good standing you family has dropped in the past for years, I am offering you a chance to rise up even further then your family ever has been." Harry smirked. "I plan bring a new age to the Wizarding World, the only thing I want to know is do you want to watch from the side or walk at the head of it?"

Theo stared at Harry for a good few seconds, letting everything sink in. He didn't think for a second that Harry was joking and what's more he really believed Harry could do what he thought he could. However he also wondered what exactly a partnership with Harry might entail, he remembered what he did to the older Slytherin's and knew part of the reason Harry truseted him was he didn't say anything about it or disapprove of it. "Okay." He finally said, after all the thought of rising his family was always on his mind, just as his father taught him. "What do I need to do?"

Harry smiled. "Nothing." He replied as he stood and walked to Theo, his arm out. "Trust is earned through actions, we have all summer to work together on things for next year."

Theo stood and took Harry's hand. "Sounds good to me."
