" Do you see them?" Kion asked his Guard, not even batting an eye at them.
The Lion Guard approached him and stayed beside him. Their eyes searched for Janja and Jasiri until they spotted their shadows.
" Oh! Oh! I see them!" Bunga exclaimed excitedly. " Let's go save Jasiri!" He headed forward before Fuli moved her paw in front of him, blocking his path.
" Chill Bunga! We don't know what Janja's doing with Jasiri. Besides, if Janja is planning on hurting Jasiri, it would be better to assume he isn't alone."
" Fuli's right Bunga," Kion admitted. " We need to be cautious." Kion turned to Ono. " Ono, take a look."
" Affirmative." Ono flew up to observe Janja and Jasiri. From what he could see, the two weren't conflicting with each other. They just seemed like two hyenas taking a nice nightly stroll. Ono checked their surroundings. Nothing seemed out of place, not another hyena to be spotted.
Ono came back down to Kion. " Nothing seems wrong. Janja and Jasiri didn't seem like they were fighting and there was no sign of another hyena."
Kion thought to himself, his mouth slightly pounting and one brow slightly raised. " That's odd." Kion turned to the Lion Guard. " We should check on them, just to be sure. But we won't say anything and just observe .l make a final decision when we see the situation."
" Sounds good," Beshte agreed.
Bunga groaned. " Fine."
"Affirmative," Ono said.
Fuli smiled and gave a small nod.
They proceeded forward towards the hyenas, making sure they wouldn't see them.
Janja kept following Jasiri through the small area and they kept chatting about the circle of life and the disconnect that lions and hyenas had with each other. Janja's walk turned to more of a trot and he was bearing the brightest smile he had on his face. Jasiri was in a trot as well and her smile was soft and her ears were flattened.
After a while, Jasiri took a moment to just observe Janja. Her smile widened as she looked him
" You seem really happy tonight," Jasiri pointed out.
" Yeah! I know!" Janja agreed. " I just feel like a tree was just lifted off my chest. It's refreshing."
Jasiri giggled. " Of course it is."
" And spending more time with you just makes me feel like I'm living in endless bliss, you know..." Janja stated with his words drifting off at the end. But as he observed Jasiri, with her eyes widening and her smile disappearing a bit, Janja started to digest what he had said. He started to cringe with his fur bristling. He started mumbling. " Why did I just say that?! I'm a freakin furbrain."
Jasiri's smile widened and she burst out giggling. " Janja, you're such a mess!"
" I didn't mean to make it so awkward!" Janja said as his skin started to get warmer. " Just… forget what I said!"
" Is there something else that you want to tell me?" Jasiri asked with a smirk.
" Uh, NO!" Janja shouted. " At least not what you think! I don't! Yeah that came out the wrong way! I-uh…"
" I'm just kidding Janja! Chill!" Jasiri continued to giggle as Janja looked away from her and looked at the ground. He still felt unusually warm and he lowered his head with his ears flattened in embarrassment. But as he listened to Jasiri's happy giggle, he felt more comfortable
" You know," Janja started off saying. Jasiri turned to him as he continued. " I could get used to that laugh."
Jasiri flattened her ears shyly and Janja noticed her smile widen and her eyes seem to widen as well in a delightful manner. "Thanks."
Janja and Jasiri continued on, with them looking at each other with a gleam of happiness and walking away with each other.
After a moment, Janja yawned. " It's been a while."
" Yeah," Jasiri agreed. " Maybe we should get going."
" It's okay," Janja insisted. " Unless you want to go."
" Are you sure you don't want to go?"
" I'm sure. But maybe we can settle down for a bit. So we can look at the land whilst lying down."
" But what if you fall asleep?"
" I won't! Trust me!"
Jasiri sighed. "Fine I will. But what if you actually do fall asleep?"
" Scar doesn't really attack too early into the morning," Janja reassured her. " If I do, we should still have time. And since I'm supposed to carry out the plan, they'll probably have to wait for me to do it. We should have enough time to get the Guard and get our clans setup."
"And you're sure?" Jasiri asked as her brows rose.
Janja gave a confident smile. " I'm certain."
Jasiri thought for a moment before responding." Fine then." She looked around scanning the area for a nice spot to rest. She spotted a smaller hill not too far ahead. " We can get a good view up there, and it doesn't take too long to get there."
" Yeah let's go," Janja instantly agreed.
As they walked up towards the hill, Janja started to think. When was he going to confess to Jasiri? It's probably obvious already, Janja thought while cringing about what he had said earlier. But admitting my feelings now would make it a bit awkward I think? I don't know. Maybe I should be direct and just say it. But what if Jasiri doesn't feel that about me? What if I'm just another hopeless hyena? But why would she want me to join with her clan? But that could have been a friendly gesture. I don't know! I think I'm overthinking it.
They got to the hill and started climbing up. With Janja still anxious, he made a decision. Maybe I'll just wait a bit.
They got to the top of the hill and Janja immediately plopped down on the grass after he turned to face the opposite direction to which they head. Jasiri slowly laid down next to him and looked out at the view. " It's beautiful isn't it?" Jasiri said.
" Yes, it is." Janja paused for a moment to think. " I wonder what this place looked like when I was born. You know, with Scar around at Pride Rock."
Jasiri hesitated to say anything in response. She furrowed her brows a bit in thoughtfulness. " I don't know. From what I heard, everything in the Pridelands seemed dead and bare."
" I can't believe that just this morning, I was following Scar. Why did I follow him when he caused so much destruction?"
" You didn't know and you were thinking about your clan. You were trying to make the best decision."
Everything was silent for a moment. Janja's thoughts about Scar filled up in his head and Jasiri looked at the antelope grazing below. Everything just seemed still and there was a somewhat awkward tension around them.
Another yawn escape from Janja mouth, breaking the silence. Jasiri turned to Janja to observe him and think for a moment . After Janja finished his yawn, he looked back at Jasiri. As Jasiri kept looking at him, Janja raised his brows. When Jasiri continued to look at him, Janja rested his head on his paws while looking back strangely. Janja then cleared his throat to break the silence. " Well uh… this is kind of awkward."
" Oh!" Jasiri said as she snapped out of her thoughts. " I'm sorry… I was just thinking about something."
Janja gave a small chuckle. " It's fine."
" Are you sure there won't be any problems if anything happens?"
" Yeah I know how Scar plays. I'm sure."
" Okay," Jasiri sighed. " Because it seems like you're about to sleep."
" I'm not..." His words drifted sleepily. His eyes started to close and he kept his head on his paws. His mouth was slightly open and he started to drool slightly as he fought his tiredness. " I'm not tired."
" Now that's clearly a lie," Jasiri started as she looked to the side for a moment. " You're just trying to-" she stopped as she turned back to Janja. Janja had fallen asleep in an instant. Jasiri didn't even bother to finish her sentence and decided not to wake him ethier. I'm sure Janja knows what he's doing, Jasiri thought. She kept looking at Janja. He looked so peaceful and innocent. No one in this moment would have thought he was a known enemy to the Pridelanders.
He looks cute, Jasiri thought. And now that I think of it, I'm tired too. Jasiri decided to move so her body was touching Janja's. She laid her head down on Janja's leg so that her cheek brushed against Janja's felt a bit warm and fuzzy for moment as she stayed awake, but soon enough she started to fall asleep as well.
From a little ways behind a bush, Kion and his Lion Guard were watching Janja and Jasiri as they cuddled.
Outside of Fuli, everyone had their jaw dropped. Fuli smirked instead, amused by the Lion Guard's shock. " Told ya that Jasiri knew what she was doing."
