"Janja!" Jasiri exclaimed. " You're alive?"
" I think…" Janja said as he lifted his head up slowly. His voice was still quiet as he spoke. " But if I'm not, then Heaven sure is painful."
" You furbrain!" Jasiri shouted with a small smile. " I thought you were gone for good!" Her sorrowful cries became tears of shock and joy. She leaned back to Janja to nuzzled him in his neck.
" Well when I have you…" Janja whispered. " You're always here to save me."
From behind them, they could hear everyone gasping. Some of the creatures started to murmur amongst themselves. Some of them were saying things in disbelief. Some remained silent with gapes.
" Janja came back to life?" Cheezi gasped. Then Cheezi turned to Chungu, who's gape just became bigger. " Chungu! He came back to life!"
" Is this really happening right now?" Nne said, hardly moving his eyes to anywhere but Janja. His eyes grew in shock and his ears were perked towards Janja.
" I think so…" Tano whispered next to him, with the same expression as Nne.
Suddenly, as everyone continued to gasp, Jasiri leaned back from him and looked at Janja. Her smile disappeared as she observed Janja's wounds which had plenty of blood spilling out." Well, you still need help! You could die from those wounds!"
" My guard and I can take him to Rafiki," Kion said from behind Jasiri. Jasiri looked behind her to face Kion as he approached with the Lion Guard behind him. " Rafiki would know how to heal him."
Jasiri stood up from where she was and moved aside for the Lion Guard. She gave an appreciative smile with tears in her eyes. " Thank you Kion."
Kion returned the smile for a moment, before he looked down to look at Janja. " Thank you Janja… for standing up to Scar."
Janja looked up to Kion with a raised eyebrow. He didn't really react outside of that for a lingering minute. He seemed a bit confused by the look of his eyes.
" Well… thank you for fighting against him." Janja finally responded. " Even for...fighting against what I did before…"
Kion nodded to Janja before stepping aside so the guard could get Janja on Beshte's back. Beshte crouched down as much as he could as Fuli and Kion helped him get up on Beshte's back. Fuli and Kion became his support by letting him lean on their shoulders as Janja tried to stand up and pushing Janja when he needed get up on Behste's back. Bunga went on Beshte's back, ready to grab Janja when he was pushed up and ready to help Janja get situated on Beshte safely.
After Janja was on Beshte's back lying down, Janja closed his eyes. Beshte turned to Kion. " We should going now."
" Yeah," Kion nodded. " We should get there as soon as possible." Kion looked to Ono who was standing on the ground. " Find Rafiki and tell him we're bringing Janja to him."
" Affirmnative," Ono said as he flew up to the sky.
Kion turned to Jasiri. " One of us can stay to lead your clan home. I know you want to accompany him."
Jasiri nodded as her eyes moved from Kion to Janja. Then she looked to her hyenas and noticed Madoa sitting down. Her head was down and the gash on her head was still bleeding pretty bad. Jasiri looked back to Kion. " Can we take Madoa too? She seems weak right now too. I can help her get there."
" Of course!" Kion reassured. He then turned to Fuli. " Fuli, stay behind to make sure the hyenas gets home alright. Once Ono gets back, I'll send him to help out."
" What if Scar's army tries something?" Fuli asked with a raised brow.
" You don't have to worry about us," a familiar voice said. Kion and Fuli turned to see Kiburi looking back at them. " If we were to try something, we would have done so already."
Kion scrunched his nose and his brows furrowed as he heard him. " What made you change so quick?"
" This doesn't mean I've changed. I just don't see the point of fighting if Scar just set us all up just to do his dirty work. And he's gone now anyways. There's no one to please or make deals with."
" Kiburi's right," another voice budged in. Kion and Fuli turned to their left to see Reirei approaching. Her ears were flat as she gave a small frown. " Scar got destroyed while insulting everyone of us. I'm still not for the Lion Guard, but it would be stupid to continue fighting this battle at least."
" I won't guarantee that my crocodiles will never attack again," Kiburi added. "But I'm tired, and I'm done being a part of this army. Me and my crocs are going home."
Kion thought about what Kiburi said before nodding. " I can accept that." Kion turned to Fuli. " You should be fine Fuli. Like I said, I'll have Ono help out."
Fuli stayed silent but she nodded with her brows furrowed. Kion then took a glance over to Beshte who already had his eyes on him. " We should be good once Jasiri gets Madoa," Kion said.
" Madoa's good with me now," Jasiri said as Kion swung his head in her direction. Jasiri was standing with Madoa. They weren't touching shoulders, but Jasiri was close enough to become shoulder support if Madoa really needed it. Jasiri's ears were pressed against her head, as she held a small smile as if to reassure herself that it is going to be okay. Madoa remained with her body seemingly weak from the wounds she earned and her face wasn't displaying any emotion.
Kion observed them before turning back to the hippo. " We should leave now Beshte. We need to get there quick."
Beshte dipped his head before he turned towards the exit of the volcano. He made his way towards it, with Kion, Bunga, Jasiri and Madoa trailing after him. Animals on the ledge moved to the side to move out of the guard's way. The animals remained silent as Beshte passed with Janja on his back, most of the eyes following Janja as they left.
They were just at the mouth of the volcano when the group heading out with Janja heard a hiss. Beshte and Kion turned to a pile of rock to their left, with their ears perked and their eyes wide in surprise. Peeking out from the rocks was a familiar set of snake eyes staring back in rage.
" This is unacceptable," Ushari hissed. " Janja should be dead and so should the guard."
Kion dismissed Ushari as Kion looked back over to Beshte in front of him. Kion's brows furrowed as he and his companions exited the volcano.
But instead, we destroyed evil. Kion thought.
Janja opened his eyes, as his eyes were greeted with sunlight. Janja closed his eyes as they needed to adjust to the surprising light. Janja opened his eyes again, this time more slowly.
As he looked ahead of him and his eyes got more open, Janja saw the face of a familiar hyena looking back at him, her brows furrowed but her mouth in a small smile.
" You're awake…" Jasiri whispered.
Janja remained silent but continued to look at Jasiri as he started to lift his head off the rock his head was on. He felt his headache as he continued to lift him and some of his wounds started to sting as well. Janja groan in response to his wounds before he had completely lifted his head.
Janja glanced around his surroundings. From the stone walls, large rocks and vines hanging from everywhere, it seemed Janja that they were in some sort of cave. The sun was shining bright into this cave, making everything clear and visible in it. Janja could even see that some of the walls had paintings of the guard.
With a brow raise, Janja turned back to Jasiri. " Where am I?"
" You're in the Lion Guard's lair," Jasiri said. " Rafiki wanted to you stay in the Pridelands until you've healed a bit more, so the Lion Guard agreed to have you stay in their lair in the meantime."
Janja looked over to the wounds that were on his body. His wounds on his limbs had been wrapped up with some kind of long green plant. The wounds on the rest of his body were covered by a green paste of another plant.
Janja turned back to Jasiri. " Do you know for how long?"
" Maybe for a few days," Jasiri said. Her smile disappeared a moment after. She was quiet for a moment looking down to the ground.
Janja noticed this and his brows furrowed in concern. " What's wrong Jasiri?"
" It's just that…" Jasiri's voice trailed off for a few seconds before speaking again. " You were so close to dying in that battle. I almost lost you! For good!"
" But I'm not dead Jasiri," Janja pointed out. "I'm alive, and I'm going to be okay."
" But you were on the brink of death Janja!" Jasiri's eyes started to fill with tears. " I shouldn't have let you go into Scar's volcano by yourself! I let you risk your life like that! It was my fault this happened."
" No Jasiri," Janja said. " It was my fault for following Scar in the first place!" Janja didn't seem to help Jasiri too much as Jasiri continued to cry.
Jasiri looked down as she continued to cry. Janja's eyes started to water too, looking at his love in a weak state for something he knew was his own fault and not hers. Janja nudged himself a bit closer to the edge of the rock he was on. He then leaned his head down towards Jasiri to nudge her forehead with his nose.
" Jasiri, it's not your fault…" Janja whispered as he continued to nuzzle her. "You have saved my life in so many ways Jasiri. If it weren't for you, I would have died in that steam vent. If it weren't for you, I would still be fighting for Scar. I probably would be fooled into killing my own self and my whole clan, just as my parents were. In fact, if you didn't bust into that volcano and knock Kiburi off of me, he would have snapped my head in two!"
" But I still let you-"
" No Jasiri. I let myself do that. I needed to go alone. It was the price I had to pay myself. You shouldn't have to pay for something I did to myself. You're still my hero Jasiri." Janja rested his nose, with it still in contact with Jasiri's head. " You're still my hero…"
Jasiri's cries slowly became quieter and quieter after Janja finished what he said. Jasiri didn't say anything more as she continued to look down.
Janja then moved his nose away from Jasiri, but his face still remained close to Jasiri. " I love you, Jasiri."
Jasiri looked up at Janja. Her eyes still had droplets of tears but her face showed that she was able to gather up some strength. " I love you too."
Jasiri lifted her nose up closer to Janja so her nose was only an inch away from Janja's. Janja then leaned in so that their noses touched.
The feelings came back again. Janja's heart started to flutter as Janja closed his eyes. He could feel a surge of excitement in his body as he nuzzled Jasiri, his face feeling warmer than usual and his fur pricking up.
" I see you guys are getting all lovey dovey." A familiar voice said. Janja and Jasiri flinched away from each other from the voice and turned towards the entrance of the lair.
At the entrance was Nne and Tano, who were looking back with smirks. Janja perked up his ears at the sight of them. " Nne! Tano! What are you doing here?"
" We've come to visit you," Tano said. " We even brought some more visitors with us." Tano and Nne turned and looked over their shoulders.
"Janja!" Janja flinched at the loud yell, but quickly recognize that voice to be Cheezi's.
Not even a second later, Cheezi and Chungu busted through the entrance, pushing through Nne and Tano without a second thought.
The surprising entrance into the lair, caused Jasiri to quickly step back from the rock that Janja was lying on. Cheezi and Chungu ran up to Janja and leaped on the rock. They started rubbing their head against Janja's as they laid down next to him, Chungu rubbed on the right side of Janja and Cheezi stepping over to Janja's left to rub his head there. Janja started to feel squished as his eyes widened and his headache started to hit him again.
" We miss you Janja!" Chungu exclaimed.
" Yeah! You almost died out there!" Cheezi cried.
" Uhh… furbrains?" Janja grunted. " Have you guys heard of personal space? I've got a headache! And I'm still recovering!"
" Oops," Chungu said and he and Cheezi removed their heads from Janja's face and they sat up next to Janja. " We just miss you being with us."
" Well I'm here now guys," Janja pointed out. " And I'll be back in the Outlands once I've recovered."
" Yeah, and I'll like it even more that we're with Jasiri's clan!" Cheezi exclaimed.
Janja raised a brow at that statement. " You guys already moved in without me?" Janja looked to Jasiri in front of him. " You didn't tell me about this."
" Yeah, everyone just got settled in last night in fact," Jasiri said. " Everyone seems to be doing fine for adjusting to newer members."
" Yeah! Everyone is just so happy and kind!" Cheezi said.
" Those hyenas aren't as bad as what we thought," Nne mentioned with a growing smile. " At least for now."
" Some of those hyenas are cute as well, not gonna lie," Tano said with a smirk.
" The only thing we need to think about is everyone recovering from the battle," Jasiri pointed out. " But most hyenas are doing fine with that. Madoa got it pretty bad out there, but she was able to make it home this morning."
" But there's plenty of food!" Chungu said with a jump. "
Hearing that the clans had finally allied, made Janja's smile grow and his tail started wagging in excitement. " I'm glad it's all started to work out for everyone. Now we are one clan."
" Yeah, we are…" Jasiri let the last word linger for a bit longer, as she thinking about the harmony that was finally happening.
Finally everything was coming together.
Finally there was peace between the hyenas.
Peace in the Outlands.
