A longship sailed through a desolate sea. It weaved around icebergs as it came closer to its destination.

"Captain, there it is. The Isle Of The Gods." Out of the fog, a massive island loomed. To the right of it, a smaller island protruded from the sea. In the sky, a pillar of light shone above the smaller island.

"We're getting closer. Keep going to the smaller island." The captain, a middle aged man with a long beard, said. The crew members readied the ship for the arrival.

Suddenly, a crew member pointed beneath the water. A dark shape swam beneath the boat. It was five times the size of the ship, and the crew members stared in awe. It slowly came closer to the surface.

"Wait… it's one of the gods! It's going to sink the ship!" Another man in the crowd shouted. Everyone scrambled to escape, but it was too late. The creature, a massive walrus, came up and capsized the boat. The ship split in half and sunk into the icy depths.

A woman and a little girl, both with brown hair, knelt before a shrine.

"Mommy?" The little girl asked.

"What is it?"

"Will the winter ever end? I heard you and the chief talking. He said that we were running out of food."

"The winter will end. The gods will have mercy on us. They'll forgive us. I know they will." The older woman said. But as she looked at the shrine, she realized that she wasn't so sure anymore.

A woman lay on the shore of an island, the water lapping at her boots, and the wreckage of a ship around her. She groaned and slowly opened her eyes. She was wet and cold. She knew she would die if she lay there any longer. She struggled to her feet, and walked forwards, towards the giant pillar of light in the sky. There was a campfire, still lit despite the ferocious wind. She warmed her hands and dried off, then continued. The path she walked appeared to have been a city once, but was now old and ruined. However, fires burned in torches and braziers, making the city seem like it was just abandoned.

She spotted a tattered flag, blowing in the wind. It had an image of a bird's wing on it.

The same flag, but now whole, fluttered above a massive stone castle. A little girl sat against a wall of the castle, crying. A bigger man with a long beard and brown hair approached her.

"What's wrong?"

"Daddy, I'm scared. You say that coming to the Isle Of The Gods will be safe, but- but…"

"Sweetie, it will be fine. It will all be fine."

The girl held back tears, but eventually managed to ask her father a question. "What if, by going, you make the gods angry?"

"Don't worry. The gods are peaceful. I'm sure they won't mind Their people coming to Their land."

"Okay. As long as it's safe…"

The woman stumbled as she snapped back to reality. She reached up and tore the flag down. She glared a bit longer at the empty space, then continued walking, as fast as she could.

She eventually came to the mouth of a cave, and climbed a short stone wall to enter.

The inside of the cave was covered with paintings on the walls, the one on the left depicting a massive figure creating a snowstorm as people bowed to it, and the one on the right depicted the same figure, but bound with chains. This seemed familiar to her. She slowly touched the figure, and a memory arose.

She was a child again, standing with another, older woman in front of a statue of a creature with a skull for a face and a massive chunk missing from its body.

"Mommy, who is that?"

"That is the Satyr God. He is the god of winter and death. But, he is also the god of new life. As the Satyr God leaves for the heavens every spring, new life comes."

"How can the god of death be good?"

"There is no good and evil. He is the god of death, and life. He is neither bad nor good. He just is."

She snapped out of the memory, and scoffed. How could she have been so foolish? She didn't know how she knew, but she knew the gods were evil. She felt rage. She didn't remember much, but she knew the gods had taken everything from her.

With newfound vigor, she approached another wall and scrambled up, only to see a massive door in front of her. In front of the door was a stone structure, with a bell in the center. Words floated into her confused mind.

'Ring the bells.' She felt a strange sense of familiarity as she pulled the handle in the center, and slammed it back in, creating a ringing noise. The door slid up to reveal another cavern.

'Why was she here?'

She stepped forward to see the floor had been eaten away by age in some places, leaving gaps to jump over. She jumped to the next platform, then jumped again to grab onto a wall and climb up onto another platform. It came naturally to her, as if she had been trained.

'What happened?'

On an elevated section of platform in front of her, an object waited. It was shaped like the jaws of a dragon, and once again, she knew exactly what to do. She clicked a button, and a hook shot out, attaching to the side of a platform too far away to jump to. She let it pull her over, then climbed up. She walked across a wooden bridge, finding a map on it. It showed the area around the cave. More frozen wasteland. She kept walking until she reached the end of the bridge. She used the hook to reach the exit of the cave. As she walked through, a final question entered her mind.

'What was her name?'

A/N: Welcome to the first chapter of my Praey For The Gods fanfiction! I haven't finished the game yet (stupid Yeti), but so far it's an amazing game! I noticed there were no fanfics about it, so I had to make my own! I decided to come up with my own, non-canon version of what happened.

I'll answer questions in this fic, such as: "Why did the gods cause the eternal winter?"

"What is the protagonist's past?"

"What are the gods?"

(Most of) These questions will probably be answered in the full release, but this is my non-canon version.

I'll still focus on Pendulum Of Kings most of the time, but I'll update this story monthly. Yes, I'm using the amnesia trope, but there are interesting things I want to do with it, and it would be boring to reveal everything in chapter one and have the next 13 or something chapters be just the protagonist mindlessly fighting gods. Some people might think it's stupid to make a fic about a game that's not finished yet, but the game will probably be done by the end of the year. Thanks for reading!
