Son of Nedra

"Listen, oh my people, to that which I have Dreamt! Know that the EVENT that has come to pass, and the PURPOSE which it birthed are but one of multitudes! Forsooth, the DECISION of The Holy Seeress has made final the PURPOSE of our Reality, but our role in the Greater Mysteries is not complete! For I have seen that our Reality is but one of many untold millions of Realities, each tied together by common threads, but each distinct in its own right. Attend, my people, and learn of what I have Dreamt!

In the earliest days of the Reality of which I most deeply dreamt, Aldur, eldest son of UL, accepted His responsibility for the Dallish peoples, creating Kell as their sanctuary, as well as His own temple. There, we are not Godless Ones – we are the Beloved peoples of the God of Wisdom and Knowledge, joyously aiding our God in researching the deeper Mysteries of the world. And yet, for all that the love of our God has made us whole, without our yearning, we of that Reality have not been able to develop the Sight that guided our Holy Seeress to her DECISION in our world, and the EVENTS have played out differently.

Though my heart weeps to know what we could have had, I must first share with you that in this other Reality our God, deeply satisfied by the love of His people, did not send the call for His Disciples in the same time or fashion as He did in our Reality. Rather, he spent centuries delighting in teaching, testing, and sharing His love with us. Thus, while the better part of His cadre of Disciples – namely Belzedar, Belsambar, Beltira, Belkira, and Beldin – eventually travelled to Kell to serve Him (joined later by the clubfooted alchemist, known there as "Belsenji"), two did not.

Makor – witty, urbane, civilized, and meticulous – saw no intellectual challenge in journeying to Kell, but rather sought a God who both matched his character, and needed his talents. So driven, Makor found himself travelling to Arendia and, in time, serving as the First Disciple and High Priest of the Bull God, Chaldan. There, he learned the courtly ways of the God of the Arends, and taught the Arendish peoples the value of intellectual curiosity, drastically changing the course of life for the three Arendish Duchies. His thirst for challenge was met, and he continues to live in that Reality to this day.

"But what," you may ask, "of the Ancient and Beloved? What of Holy Belgarath?"

"Ahhh," I would say to you, "therein lies the most significant change of all."

For Holy Belgarath, known to us as the First Disciple of the God Aldur, serves a different God in that Reality. Known as variously as "Belgarath the Shrewd", "The Miser of Tol Honeth", "The Master Negotiator of Tol Borune", "Grand High Commander of the Imperial Legion," "The Wicked Vicar", and "The Richest Man in the World", the title he holds dearest is that which we might view as most prosaic:

"Son of Nedra"."
