SOPHIE'S POV

I decided to crawl back to where I came from and hid in my house until I could wrap my head around any of this. It was getting harder for me. Part of me wanted to just accept the wolf inside me but all I could see it as was a beast. A beast that could kill.

I patiently waited for Paul to come home. But he didn't. I was alone. It wasn't like I didn't expect it. But I honestly thought he would be a bit more concerned for me. My reason for staying around was decreasing more and more.

Paul

Dad

Jake

Cole

Ashley

I had none of them.

So I decided to do what was right. I packed a bag. There was no way I could stay here. Not while I was so out of control and confused. They would understand... Eventually.

Yes Jake had been trying to make me feel better, and that hidden cove was nothing short of magical, but I had to make my own life somewhere no one knew about my secret. Somewhere I could control the beast before coming back later on. I pulled the window open, and headed towards the woods at full speed, where I came to the town line.

The point of no return.

If I crossed the line, I was in Cullen territory. There was no telling how they would handle a random shifter on their land unannounced. But if I could get through, I was home free.

So I stepped over the line and began walking down the road towards freedom. I was so close I could taste it. Unfortunately, It didn't last. Carlisle Cullen glided from the trees to face me. "Where are you going, Miss Lahote, if I may enquire?" He asked politley. I just shrugged.

"I'm just passing through, Doc." I tried to stay inconspicuous. It failed.

"And why is that? Is the reservation not your home? Do you not wish to remain with your imprint?"

I smirked. "I'm not called back to him when I leave if that's what you mean." That was a lie. I could sense Jacob's fear.

He knew.

"Now if you don't mind, I have to leave." I rushed, walking around him.

He simply stood before me again, a concerned look on his face. "What's wrong?" I finally gave in.

"I lost my temper. I nearly killed Embry because I let him bait me. I have to get out of this place. Being here... It makes me a monster."

Carlisle simply gave me a look of understand, which I hadn't seen since I had arrived in Forks.

"The Quileutes have always had trouble with their temperament. I haven't seen many able to overcome it." His implication was that someone had. And that greatly interested me. "If you really want to escape your fate, then perhaps running is not the solution."

"I'm listening."

"You need to be trained in control. As Vampires, we not only control blood-lust but our superhuman strength and speed. We know how to control ourselves. I would like to offer you the chance to do this."

It was everything I wanted. But it was coming out of a Vamps mouth. I wasn't entirely sure how much I could be sure of when it came to this family.

"It's your choice." I could hear the bounding of feet in the distance. It was now or never.

"Okay."

JACOB'S POV

I should never have left her on her own. That girl can barely sit still when she's in a good mood. No doubt she was running from us, but we couldn't leave the rez. Not until Sam allowed us to. If we didn't hurry, there was no way of getting her back. But when we got to the border, she was no where. He scent passed the line.

She'd left me.

She'd finally decided to flee, and in the process left her only family behind. She wasn't about to go to her mother's due to their history. She was on her own out there, and that worried. Dr Leech appeared from the other side and came to greet us.

"Can I help?"

I was torn as to whether or not to tell him Sophie had fled. To tell him that we needed their help to find her. But I was too stubborn and I was never in hell asking a leech for help.

"Just passing through."

"Funny." He smirked, clearly knowing something. "One of your pack said that to me earlier when she was leaving."

He'd seen Sophie. And he was keeping that information from us. That aggravated me. She was my imprint and I had a right to know where she had gone.

"Where did she go?"

"She left. Passed through and headed south. No doubt she's reached San Francisco by now."

No. She couldn't have. She wouldn't have passed through vamp territory. Unless she knew we would never follow her there. She really was trying to abandon us. She was that afraid of herself.

Sam finally arrived and shook his hand. "Thank you for the help." Why was he thanking that useless leech? He let my imprint just leave and didn't even give us a heads up. "Any time." He smiled back and then left with his bear-sized, leech son.

She was gone.

And she was never coming back.

SOPHIE'S POV

I sat in the Cullen's living room and smiled awkwardly at the pixie-looking girl and her blonde, brooding boy-toy. Then a little girl rushed in. "Ness! Slow down!" A gorgeous blonde woman called, chasing her. The coppery haired kid giggled and then froze when she saw me. She looked about 10 years old or so. Clearly, she was unsure of me.

"You must be Renesme." I smiled gently. She was comforted by my tone. "Seth's told me so much about you." I told her. That made her smile.

"You're Sophie." She stated, now understanding.

Alice, the pixie, stared in shock as we began talking.

"Yes I am. I'm the new fur-ball." I grinned.

She giggled melodically. "You're pretty." She told me, coming over and playing with my short messy hair.

"I wish I looked like you."

I was stunned. I knew she knew about us, but I didn't realise quite how much she idolised us and felt like an outsider. I was liking this little girl more and more as I got to know her.

"Wanna know a secret?" I asked. She nodded frantically and I beckoned her over.

"Everyone in this room wants to look like you." I whispered.

She blushed and grabbed my hand. "Where are we going?" I asked.

"Home."

Renesme dragged me to their little cottage and sat me in her room, asking if I would let her play with my hair. I just smiled. "Go ahead. There used to be a lot more to play with." She grinned and rushed to get a brush. After a while, she became more comfortable in my presence.

"How long was your hair?" She asked.

"It was so long it went past my waist and I could nearly sit on it." Nessie seemed fascinated.

"I want long hair." She explained.

I nodded. "I miss my long hair. I think I'm gonna grow it out again."

"When you do, can I play with it?" I couldn't help but smile. She was full of so much joy.

"Whenever you want."

"Promise?" She asked, coming round to face me and holding out her pinky.

"Promise."
