SOPHIE'S POV

It was my first day of training to control myself, and there was no way I was about to miss it. I had left everything to be here, and had to get better. Maybe, if I mastered it, I could help the others. But first things' first: I had to get through today. I wasn't sure what to expect from the Cullens for this. But I was both excited and nervous.

There was a knock on the door.

"Time to go, Lahote." A boomy voice echoed through my door.

I smirked, and opened the door. The large bear-Vamp known as Emmett was waiting at my door.

"You coming, wolf-girl? Or you just gonna stand here?"

"I don't see you going anywhere."

He simply smirked. "That's because I'm on babysitting duty."

I laughed at that and pushed past him, heading down to the woods, where Carlisle was patiently waiting. The entire Cullen clan was circling me, watching my every move as I stood in front of them. I was very unsure of how to act, as I had never been through this before. I had only ever met Vampires in hostile or necessary situations. But now I was here, I knew there was no going back. They would never forgive me for what I did. And Jake... Jake'll be so hurt.

I stood still and looked around.

"What now?"

Emmett's smile was extremely disconcerting.

"Time to practice."

JACOB'S POV

It had been three days since Sophie had vanished. Each day that passed, I felt the pain more intensely. She was my soulmate. And she'd abandoned me, her family, her friends... Everyone. I had to find her. But where would I even start.

I was walking through the halls with Quil when I spotted Cole on the phone to someone. "Are you sure you can't make it?" He asked the person on the other end.

"Sorry Cole. I wish I could. But something happened with my mom and I had to fly back and help her. I'll try and make it for the dance... But I don't wanna get your hopes up."

Sophie.

"It's okay, babe. I get it."

"Babe?"

"Well... yeah." The smirk on his face gave me the urge to punch him.

I could here the discomfort in her voice. " Okay... Well... Save me dance when I get back... Maybe."

"You got it."

My body shook as I watched his grin. He hung up, and my whole body felt like it was disintergrating. I didn't even know it was possible to feel like this. All I wanted to do was charge over and snap his fragile neck. But I didn't. The last thing I wanted was to drive Sophie even further away. And he made her happy.

At lunch, the guys (and Leah) all sat around the table stuffing their faces. I hadn't wanted to eat for days. Which, for wolves, was extremely messed up.

"Come on, Jake." Leah insisted. "You gotta eat."

I just stared at her.

"Leah, just leave him."

My eyes stayed on her, examining her. How could she be so unfazed? How could any of them be so unfazed? I couldn't stand looking at them all, acting so casual and laughing together. I got up and left the room, faster than I had ever walked before. And then I spotted Cole.

SOPHIES POV

I had been training for hours on end and was getting exhausted. Staying calm was a lot harder than I thought. Especially when Vampires were the ones messing with your stability. But the whole point was to see how far I could be pushed before I snapped. And currently, I was still human. Even after them insulting my mother, father, pack in general and Cole. "Well, Sophie, it seems that you are able to control yourself rather well." Carlisle complimented. He then nodded towards Rosalie and Emmett once more. I felt sweat trickle down my forehead as I clenched my fists ready for more. But I wasn't prepared for what was coming.

"Do you still feel the pain?" Rosalie asked.

My heart stopped.

"He betrayed you."

Carlisle and the others seemed on edge. Even Emmett had become silent and concerned. But I ignored her with all my strength.

"How can you stand it? You know that he never wanted you. You were forced on him. He had no choice. And if he had the choice, he would have chosen differently."

My body started shaking. It wasn't rage I was feeling. It was pain. Pain and frustration at everything that happened. The amount of pain I felt was overwhelming.

"You were a fluke." She hissed in my ear. "And Jacob is probably all over that girl at school right now."

My body felt like it was burning. As if every negative emotion I had ever felt was filling me.

"And if you hadn't abandoned him, and taken him for granted, you wouldn't be so angry."

She was right about one thing. I chose to be here. I released my grip and took a deep breath. Looking dead into her gold eyes I smirked. "Nice try."

They all looked very impressed in my progress. I was proud of myself, though I still wanted to rip off Rosalie's head from her shoulders and burn it in a sacrificial fire. But I could resist the urge to do so. Edward had obviously heard these thoughts and smirked in my direction. "Don't make me put you on my list, Eddie." I growled. His smile faltered and he walked back to the house.

Renesme came running out and leapt onto my back. "You promise we'd go exploring." She grinned.

Bella gave me a look of scorn.

"Only if your mother would allow me the honour." I stated, meeting her gold eyes firmly.

She shifted her eyes between me and her daughter. "As long as you don't go past the border..." She muttered.

Nessie squealed. "Ya! Giddy up!" She ordered me.

I rolled my eyes with a smile and sped off through the forest, Nessie on my back.

We made it to the border of the woods where the river separated the Cullens territory and that of the wolves. I miss them. I missed their cracks and their stupidity. I missed knowing Ash had my back. And I missed Jacob like I had a hole in my heart.

Nessie shook my arm. "I wanna see Seth." She was an insistent little thing.

"You're mother forbid it." I reminded her. "Besides, I doubt they would want me over there."

I looked over the river with such pain in my chest. I couldnt tell if it was mine or Jake's, but it didnt matter. If Nessie hadnt been there I would have broken down in tears and curled up there. My plan had been better in my head that was for sure. I had been so desperate to protect them from me, I had miscalculated how much I needed them.

But then I caught a scent.

"Nessie get on my back. Now!" She leapt instantly at me and I sprinted back to the house. Bella met us outside.

"Get her inside."

"What is it?" She asked, cradling her child.

"A Vampire."
