SOPHIE'S POV

I had been on a run, clearing my head from all of the pain and sadness I felt. I was dying from the separation. My pack were my family. And now I wasn't even allowed to see them. I had been running a lot more since I found that it helped me cool off. But it only lasted about 5 minutes before I found myself on edge and covered in prickles.

I jogged back over to the house where I had been staying. The Cullens were nice for letting me stay there, but I realised why it was hard for us to get alon. Every part of me wanted to rip them apart, on a physical level. But emotionally, I had no issues with them. The only one I had no harm towards was Nessie. And if the Volturi came for her, I would fight.

My nose stung. I could distinguish between the Cullen's and the Rogue Vamps. And this was a very strong scent. Yet again, a messenger had been sent to Renesme. And no one was going to allow that.

"Another one?" I asked, coming into the Cullen's house.

Carlisle simply nodded, and headed out of the door.

JACOB'S POV

Every patrol I went on, I wanted Sophie to emerge from the trees. I felt nothing but sadness and anger. My rage was so hard to control, I had been skipping school so I didn't kill that Cole kid. That was not the way to win Sophie back, if she ever returned to me.

And if she didn't, I would find her. Because I could feel her pain, and it was equal to mine. She missed me too, I knew it. But she had a reason for staying away. I just didn't know what that was yet. But I would.

Jake! Embry's voice rang in my head and I noticed what he did. The scent. It was strong. And was leading to the clearing. If I didn't get the leech now, it would make it across the line to where Seth's imprint was.

So I followed it.

And I saw it stood there, silently staring over the forest. Lunging at the leech, I tackled it. Unfortunately, my stance was wrong because the vamp threw me straight off and landed on her feet.

"Hello, pup." She hissed, her eyes meeting mine. And then I felt my body freeze. I felt my body shrink and my fur turn to skin. What had this leech done to me?

SOPHIE'S POV

I was forced to stay with Nessie and Bella while the others took care of it. This was against my being. I needed to be out there, fighting them. I had to do something. But instead, I was stuck here watching Pretty Little Liars with Bella while Nessie brushed my hair like she did most days. I never pictured this would be how I lived my life. To be honest I didn't picture anything.

And then my leg ached. And then it burned. Jake. No.

"I have to go out there."

"But you're not meant to phase." Bella reminded me.

I shook my head. "I have to get to him. He's hurt."

Bella tried to stop me, but I slipped through her grip and out the door. I'm coming Jake. I'm coming.

Before, I could resist the need to find him, but having been parted for over a week, and knowing he was hurt or even dying, I had no fight left. I took off through the woods on foot, and leapt over the river. I heard his screams in the clearing and picked up the pace. My legs couldn't move any faster. Not even in wolf form would I have been able to sprint so fast.

And there he was.

He was lying there, completely nude, with a vampire stood over him. I saw the lean figure knelt over him like a predator, and felt my stomach knot together. "This is for Laurent, you mutt" the woman spat.

"Get the hell away from him!" I yelled, without any ability to stop myself, I lunged and tackled her to the ground.

She was far stronger than me, and I had no shot of getting out of this unscathed, but I only cared about Jake. And right now, he was lying there and I could feel his pain. I could feel his strength slipping.

She tried to take a chunk out of my arm but I snapped her jaw just before she could. The leech squealed and I quickly searched the floor for anything. My hand grasped a tree branch, and I shoved it straight through her chest.

I watched in shock as her body began to crack and turn grey. Finally, she stopped moving.

Then Jake's breathing slowed.

I spun around and threw myself at his side. "Jake!" I slapped his cheeks. "Jake wake up or I swear to God." Tears streamed down my face.

A hand placed on my shoulder. "I can help him."

"Then do it." I begged Carlisle. "I'll do anything."

Carlisle knelt down and I flinched when he suck his teeth into Jacob's leg. His eyes fluttered and he caught mine. "Soph?" His eyes then rolled back and he was breathing softly.

"What would you like to do?"

I searched his sleeping face. I had been waiting for the moment I would get to see him again. I had constantly thought of nothing but seeing him. But now I saw him, I felt guilt. I felt pain and guilt and hatred for myself.

I had left to protect them. And because of me, Jake got hurt. It was all my fault.

But before I had time to decide, the pack came out from the trees. "Sophie?" Jared stared at me. I looked up at him and saw Paul. Paul looked like he had seen a ghost. "Take him to Billy's. He needs to rest." I croaked, brushing the tears from my eyes.

"What about you?" Paul asked. I walked over and clutched my big brothers waist. "I'm never leaving you again."

We headed back to Billy Black's house and they put Jake in his bed. I sat on the sofa shaking. Paul stood over me with a very angry expression. "How could you do that to me?! I thought something had happened to you! Are you that stupid to think leaving was a good idea?! Where even were you?!" Before I could explain, Embry came into the room.

"Jake's awake." He declared, then turning to me. "He wants to see you."

My heart raced and I felt sick. But I struggled to my feet and wobbled to the door of his bedroom. Opening it a crack, I slipped inside and sat on his bed. He turned to look me full in the face. His dark eyes met my own and I felt myself break.

"Jake?" I asked, stroking his hair and crying over him like an idiot. His hand slowly reached for my face. "You saved me." He croaked, his thumb wiping away a tear.

"I tried to stay away. I tried to protect you. I'm so sorry." I felt myself falling apart all over again.

But instead of being mad, Jacob laughed. I didn't understand. "That's why you left?" He asked me.

"Well... Yeah." I stated. He shook his head. "You're an idiot."

I frowned. "I'm the idiot?! You went to take on a Vampire without any back up are you crazy you almost died!"

He pulled my face to his and kissed me gently. "I've missed being yelled at." He grinned.

My heart fluttered and my face felt hot. He reached my waist and pulled me into his arms, and automatically fell into a deep sleep.

I then became very aware that under the blanket he had no clothes on.

Paul cracked open the door. He gave me a look we need to talk about this. I simply shot him back a pleading glance Let me stay with him a bit longer, and then you can yell at me.

So he grunted and left.

And Jacob and I remained there, lying close to each other and trying to forget that we had to resolve everything else that happened before this.
