SOPHIE'S POV
"What're you doing here?" I asked him. I was so busted right now.
"SETH!" Renesme clambered off my back and ran into his arms. I could see how much care he had for her, but it wasn't creepy either.
He was still watching me though, confused and a bit stunned by it all.
"I'm here to see Nessie. What're you doing here?" He asked me.
I shuffled my feet around. I was not gonna come off looking good here. May as well bite the bullet now. Before I could, the question was answered for me.
"She's my friend!" Renesme declared.
I smiled at her, and Seth couldn't help but soften.
"She's mine too, Ness."
That made her happy. And also helped me. You beautiful child you totally just saved my ass.
"I should tell your parents I'm here." He told Nessie.
She pouted, clearly not wanting to go back in.
"They already know." Bella's voice was gentle but echoing from behind me.
Her smile was tired. She looked so worried and it was showing.
"Why don't you come in? We need to talk to you anyway." She nodded to both of us.
Oh dear.
Without another word, the three of us went into the house.
JACOB'S POV
When I got back to the pack house, Paul was waiting for me. He was pouting on the stairs.
"What's wrong with you?" I asked him, keeping my distance in case he decided to lunge.
Paul's mood swings have been worse than mine since Sophie left. And the two of us couldn't be near each other without fighting.
"Sam won't let us over the border. He says she left and she has to come back on her own."
I couldn't believe my ears. That was my mate. I was not waiting around while she was over in fucking leech land. I knew where she was. I had been waiting over a week to find her and now she was within my reach I couldn't go and get her.
"This is bullshit." I growled, charging in.
Sam was tangled with Emily when I came in. He saw my face and immediately sent her out of the room.
"So Paul told you." His tone made me shake.
"Yes he fucking told me!" I shouted, completely enraged. "What the fuck, Sam?! You seriously expect us to sit and wait around?!"
"I expect you to follow orders." His voice boomed down on me.
He may be the alpha, but he was a total dick.
"We can't afford a war with the Cullen's. So suck it up and deal with it." He was definitely not going to change his mind. And that just angered me.
And then he made it worse.
"You gave up your right to order us around when you gave up your Alpha position."
I roared with rage. I gave it up after the battle because it was the best thing for us. But he was dreaming if he thought I was about to give up on Sophie.
Before I shifted in the middle of the house, I stormed out. Paul followed me into the woods.
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"I'm going to get her back."
"I'm coming too." He told me.
I looked at him, irritated and confused at the same time.
"No. You're not." He didn't like that answer.
"She's my fucking sister! I'm coming. You can whine like a little bitch about it or you can deal with it."
I knew there was no arguing with him, so I just nodded.
We both shifted and headed into the woods.
SOPHIE's POV
Carlisle had told Seth why I was there. I just sat awkwardly the whole way through it. I didn't know how to explain myself. I had abandoned them, and they were gonna be super pissed.
But he didn't look mad. He looked upset.
Eddie and the gang had clued him into the whole Volturi-vision mess, and I had to say he took it better than I thought. His only thought was Renesme.
"So what do we do?" He asked.
"We need the pack. I've asked our friends if any of them are willing to return and fight, but I can't guarantee it." Carlisle's words set us all on edge.
If we couldn't pull this off, there was no way to protect Renesme or the humans in the town. It was gonna be a complete slaughter. I couldn't stand by and let that happen.
"When are they coming?"
"Three days." Seth looked panicked when this was told to him.
Yep. We're screwed.
And then Seth turned to look at me and I felt my body clench. I was worried he was gonna go off at me. I'd screwed up a lot, but I did this to keep them safe. I just hoped they'd see that.
"And what about you?" He asked me. "What're you gonna do?"
My eyes wandered to where Nessie was dancing with Rose in the other room. She was so innocent. So much pain because of one small child. It was so unfair.
"I'm in. I'll fight."
Seth nodded and we both turned back to face Carlisle.
"The pack will fight. I know it." Seth assured them.
But would that be enough?
I wasn't so sure.
JACOB's POV
Paul and I made it to the border, and froze for a minute while we looked into the distance. Were we really gonna break the treaty? Was this the right thing to do? What if she didn't even wanna see us?
Who cares? She needs to come home. Paul insisted.
But I didn't know for sure. It wasn't exactly like we'd thought this through.
Before we could take another step, someone else had joined the conversation.
Seth's mind raced with images of Sophie with Renesme and the Cullens. With Dr. Leech explaining everything to him. His words resonated with me. 'She wanted to be in control. So I offered her help'. Would she have really taken it? She was desperate, so I could see it being true.
But all this time she was here.
We have bigger problems boys. Seth tried to catch our attention as his grey form approached us.
Bigger than getting my sister back? Paul asked, his wolf face growling.
Seth came over the border and walked past us.
Do you consider old vampires who are back for vengeance worse?
Oh shit.
