I can hear the smiths hammering away at hot metal shaping it into something new, perhaps swords, perhaps horseshoes or gun barrels, it's hard to believe that a year has passed since I first arrive here.
The locals are good people and they didn't ask any questions when the two of us first got here, right I forgot to mention, I didn't come here alone, Bunny arrived here at the same time as me.
She's completely different from me, you see she has long blond hair and despite cutting it several times it's still long enough for it to reach below her waist while being held as twin tails.
She's thin with light peach skin and bright blue eyes, but her appearance is deceiving mainly because of her appetite, the girl is a big eater, but she's kind to everyone, especially children.
I, on the other hand, was fat, this place made me lose the weight, I have short smooth black hair and tanned skin before we go any further I started taking care of the kid not long after we both arrive here, the only thing she did back then was cry.
Was it pitty, was that the reason I started taking care of her, maybe I just wanted someone anything to be there when I got back, regardless I did it for selfish reasons.
Our days are quiet and boring, but I'm told that as long as they stay this way, Sigmar is watching over us.
I haven't seen any monsters in this world, but I know they're real because hanging from my neck is a piece of string, holding seven rings each one containing the powers of the emotional spectrum.
I have no way of recharging them if they lose power and I have no idea if they even lose power at all, but I'm not willing to risk it.
My job is to be a watchman during the day and at night someone replaces me, watchmen do exactly what the name says. but we don't stand guard in towers or walls, no we are sent into the forest to kill anything that might get close to the town.
We are the first line of defense, and at times, I swear we are the only line of defense, the town is surrounded by a wall made of thick wood that somehow fixes itself, but there are a couple of guards here and there and that's it nothing else.
It's just us watchmen- the guards and the walls, those are our defenses.
Bunny is now working as a helper in the town's orphanage, because I took her in, by the town's customs she is now either my wife or concubine, so she can't become a nun.
In all honesty, she seems more than happy to play the part of a clingy wife, considering that when we do have some spare time we do go out just to walk around, see the animals graze, or play in the river.
From time to time the town's children will see her and run up to her and some people say that bunny has a strange power or gift for healing because anyone she helps cure, is cured with little to no effort from the doctors here.
The houses here are made out of some sort of light yet surprisingly strong rock, that's placed between logs that are from the same kind of tree that was used to build the walls that surround the town.
I don't know how it works, but from what I have seen, the men make the skeleton of the house using the post or logs of the tree, then they make the walls when the walls touch any of the posts/ logs, the wood will grow, fill in any gaps and the house is done.
The streets are a combination of dirt and rocks men are trying to build a rod but people keep walking where they are working so they haven't made any real progress.
I can already smell the various stews being cooked and as I get home the smell of burned meat reaches my nose, looks like its a barbeque today, I can't complain the girl is learning to cook and I've eaten worse.
I open the door and I notice the candles are already light, somehow the candles give off enough light that there isn't any place dark inside the house.
I leave my hat on the livingroom table and take off my thick brown coat that reaches all the way down to my ankles and covers part of my face when I unfold the top of it.
I'm tempted to take off my boots, but the last time I did that she was angry all day, she later told me that the women in town told her that no man should remove his boots after a hard day's work, so its better if I keep the boots on.
I can't help but smile when I finally see her standing next to the table, she's smiling at me and boy does she light up the room.
She pulls out the chair and with any words, she tells me to sit down, I do as I'm told, this is her area after all, in front of me is freshly made guacamole, burned lambs leg and ice-cold water to wash it all down.
She quickly moves o the other side of the table and she begins to serve me my food.
I can't explain it, but the hairs on my hands are starting to stand and the hairs on the back of my head are starting to do the same thing and my instincts are screaming Run.
Out of pure instinct, I grave my necklace and with my right hand and jump towards bunny and a green ball forms around us, just in time for the wall next to us to explode.
Ding ding ding ding ding, the men at the walls ring the bells alerting everyone that we are being attacked.
I turn to look at Bunny and I can't help but let out a breath of relief, she's okay.
"Get the church, its the safest place in town" I tell her, I want to take her here myself, but I have to help the men on the walls, she looks at with before giving me a soft strained smile, it breaks my heart having to let her go, the fear in her eyes ...
"I have to go" I tell her and she nods before running out of the house, I look back to the wall that exploded and I notice that the wall that exploded is already repairing itself.
I can't stay here anymore, as I run out of the house, I can see women and small children running towards the church and in the distance, I can see a boy no older than ten cranking at a machinegun firing away at whatever is attacking us.
As I run towards the walls, I can see men and boys firing aros and using slingshots but it's not enough, finally, I'm at the top of the walls and I can't help but grave my head because of what's in front of me.
The forest is moving and the field around the town is completely covered in bodies, thousands of dead animals, people, and other things I don't even know what they are called are marching towards us.
I didn't want to do this, but none of us are going to make it if I don't.
"On brightest day, on blackest night. No evil will escape my sight" I begin to chant and the men near me turn their heads towards my direction.
"For those who worship, evils might beware my power. Green lanterns light"
The green ring around my neck glows so bright that it could almost be compared to a green sun, but when the light fades, I notice that I'm wearing both my coat and my hat.
I can use the green ring to call upon some of the yellow and red rings power, not too much just enough for the things I construct to be able to kill.
All around the walls, canons and machine guns made of green light come into existence, startling the men, but they quickly ignore them and continue to open fire on the undead.
It's hard to use more than one ring, the yellow energy, tells me to be afraid, but the red tell me to kill everyone around me, while the green energy tells me to keep going.
With the sound of a thousand sticks of dynamite going off, the cannons fire all at once, followed by the machineguns.
We continued to fight as the sun went down and when it finally rose back up again, we kept on fighting until the arrows ran out, when the guns ran dry and when the mages couldn't cast any spells anymore.
Then it was just me fighting alone.
Four days, passed or I think it had been four days and finally the last of the undead fell, beyond the walls are skeletons and corpses that are starting to rot, but I can't move anymore, the rings drained everything, I have no more will left in me.
[Change]
The sounds of bells ring and the women and children all begin to cheer, its over, but when they open the doors, we are met with the grim expressions of the men.
"Bunny, your husband he's ..." she was about to run towards mark but the man placed his hand on her shoulder, as he tries to calm her down.
"He's exhausted, he used nearly all of his magic to hold off the undead, we ran out of arrows and bullets, so it was up to him when the other mages couldn't handle it anymore" the man said to her before he handed her Marks necklace.
"I was there he used these to control his magic, hide them don't let anyone else know about them because they will steal them" the man said to her and she quickly put the necklace on and for a brief instant she felt something inside her react to the ring's powers.
The women around her ran towards their husbands and sons and she could hear both women and children crying, then she saw hin being watched over by a sister.
"He's sleeping, he used too much of his energy, he will be asleep for one maybe two days, let him rest" the sister told her, yet the moment the words left the sister's mouth two men carried mark to their house and laid him on the bed.
Bunny didn't know what to do, Mark had always bee with her since she first arrived in this world and now he was about to leave her behind, she remembered his necklace and placed it on his chest, she didn't want to risk hurting him, and she noticed the blue ring giving off a small glow.
"Hey" Mark said to her with a strained voice
One month later
