Rangers huffed and puffed a bit, his arms aching slightly as he carried the bleeding, tipsy, and equally exhausted Angel on his back through the streets of Lungmen. A trip of his clawed feet sent them spiraling to the ground, his reflexes being the only thing that kept Exusiai and him from slamming headfirst into the pavement of the street. He sighed heavily, groaning as his body protested about going on any further. They both propped up against each other on the sidewalk, the usual citizenry of Lungmen giving some looks their way as Exusiai leaned on his shoulder.
"H-Hey- hic Rangers~" She said with a smile, slightly offset by her bleeding nose which had long since dried on her lips. He sighed a bit as he took in her face.
"Yes, young Exusiai?" He questioned with a raised ridge of scale that one could assume to be his brow.
"Sorry for the trouble and all tonight~ Kinnnnnnnda thought this was gonna be a more- urp…" She held her mouth, giving a hard swallow as bile built up in the back of her throat.
Rangers chuckled lightly, rubbing her back softly. He wasn't exactly well off himself. His normally white scales had a fair bit of bruising, and he could feel his own stomach churning from the several blows he had received over the course of the night to his abdomen. The male averted his eyes partly in politeness and partly in wanting to avoid losing his own stomach contents. As she finished, the older of the two spoke.
"It is… fine, young Exusiai. Despite everything, the night was… enjoyable. I would like to avoid similar circumstances in the future, however. If we go out again." His maw quirked slightly into a smile as a low chuckle rang out while he rubbed up and down her spine comfortingly.
Exusiai wiped her lips with a little cough, smiling a bit with a nod. Her sweaty red hair was matted against her face, and she pushed it out of the way as she leaned on him again. "I mean, hey, not like it was boring, huh?"
The albino male gave a small snort, shaking his head softly. "It certainly was not boring…"
Rangers' eyes wandered softly at the lights of Lungmen, taking in the sights and smells of people and food alike as he walked the streets with the colloquially dubbed 'Apple Pie Angel.' His tail swayed gingerly behind him, giving him an area of safety in case of pickpockets that might wish to sneak up from his rear.
"We're here!~" Exusiai shouted with gusto as the two arrived at a brightly lit yet traditional looking bar, people coming in and out of the area quickly with drinks in their hands. The male squinted quietly, the lights irritating his eyes a bit.
"I see. This is the spot you spoke of? It's quite… busy." He said simply as he looked over the area carefully. The whole of the hall was quite packed with people drinking, laughing and chattering away. The noise by itself made Rangers' head swim lightly, unused to quite so many people packed in such a small space. He was brought back from his observations by Exusiai grabbing his clawed hand and tugging him forwards.
"Come on, Grandpa, it should be a fun time! Live a bit!~ Drinks are on me after all!~"
Rangers thought to protest a bit, but he sighed and nodded as he was dragged along to the bar where the two perched up. He had to admit, Exusiai's taste in alcohol was quite pleasant. The sugary concoction that he sipped on while Exusiai began to prattle on about the day tingled on his tongue, leaving a warm feeling in his stomach. It also helped to focus on it other than the absolute wave of scents and sounds in the bar itself.
"Hey, Grandpa. You listening?~" The Angel smiled as she downed her drink, slapping down the lungmen dollars for another round for them both.
Rangers was startled a bit, quickly taking his drink down with a sigh. "I am… sorry. I was not."
Her lips turned down slightly, but she kept her smile. "Hey, if you're not down, we can always head out somewhere else. I just thought you'd be cool with a spot like this one~ You probably older than most of the people here after all~"
The male chuckled a bit at that, giving a slight nod as he sipped on his drink. "I… appreciate the gesture. The noise is a little much for me, if I am being honest."
"Well why did ya say so, Rangers! Texas complains about the same thing~ I got a better spot!" She said as she downed her drink quickly, a light flush already coming to her face.
Rangers quickly downed his own as well, the movements made him stumble a bit as he jogged a bit to keep up with the Angel girl. "H-Hey there! Exusiai, why are you moving so quickly?!"
"Because we gotta move fast so this buzz doesn't go! Now come on, Grandpa!" The red haired girl said with a laugh as she sprinted down the streets of Lungmen.
This was one of the few times Rangers could remember regretting his well built form. Being lighter meant he was already stumbling slightly as he followed the girl at a run, keeping an eye on her as she moved through the crowd. He may have been an avid hunter, but his skills were tested with how well Exusiai managed to duck and weave through the crowd. He could only guess that it came from being a Messenger.
He sighed as he just barely managed to keep up, stopping with a surprised gasp as he hunched over a bit to catch his breath. Exusiai grinned at him, leaning against the alley wall with her halo shining slightly above her head. She reached over and patted his shoulder with a smile, walking into the alley.
"Good job keeping up, Rangers~ Come on, we're almost there~" She said as she leapt up and grabbed a ladder attached to a fire escape. It slammed onto the floor, the Angel hanging off it as she beckoned him over before scurrying up. Rangers jogged up and climbed it as well, following as she went up about two floors before coming to a slightly ajar window. He quirked his brow as she pushed it open and hopped in, smiling at him as he climbed in after her and shut the window.
The window came into a room, which led into a hallway that contained several people quietly chatting while sipping from cheaper cups. The scents of the area mixed together into a strange slurry of smoky and fruity, a contrast from the public bar from before. His eyes wandered as he followed Exusiai deeper in, curious as to just how she actually knew about this place. A grunt escaped him as she tugged him into a doorway, stumbling a bit as they ended up in a wide room.
The whole place looked like an underground bar, low neon lights flickering as people walked about or sat at makeshift tables, couches, or stands that they could hang off of. From the smoke alone, Rangers could tell it wasn't just alcohol that several of the inhabitants were indulging in, and he moved in a small berth around some of the more toxic smells as Exusiai hummed and led him to the core part of the bar.
The bartender was a tall man, red hair smoothed back on his head where crooked wolf ears sat. The Lupo's eyes shone a bit, their red irises flicking up as Exusiai and Rangers approached. He set down the glass he was running a rag through, leaning lightly on the bar as his gruff voice called out a bit. "Hey there, Angel. Looking to fly tonight? Who's your friend?"
Before Rangers could ask what he meant by the 'fly' bit, Exusiai jumped in with a smile. "Hey, Mutt. It's a friend of mine from work~ And nah, just looking for some drinks to have fun with in a quieter place. He's a bit sensitive to the public spots~"
She pointed slyly at the albino male, who snorted slightly as her voice still carried to his hearing quite easily. The Crimson Lupo looked a bit behind her, giving a bit of a nod with a chuckle. "Ah, alright. Nice to meet you, Work Friend. Never seen an albino Savra before."
Rangers looked towards him and nodded a bit in return. "Pleasure to meet you."
"I'm sure." The Lupo snorted softly, pulling up two cheap cups and filling them with a darker liquid. In one, he added a small berry of sorts, which made a fizzle as it fell into the liquid. They were slid to Exusiai, who raised a brow. "On the house for Work Friend's first trip here. Give him the berry one, it's a Savra favorite."
The Angel lit up a bit, giving a smile as she grabbed them. "Aw, thanks, Mutt~ Remind me to scratch behind your ears later~"
The Lupo's ear twitched a bit as he gave a grunt, going back to his other glasses as the angel girl handed Rangers the cup with a grin. "You heard the man, this one is yours~"
"What… is in it?" He sniffed lightly at the cup, afraid of being spiked by the red-haired man. The scent actually seemed quite familiar, and he took a curious sip as his eyes widened lightly with a small shake of his head. "O-Oh…"
Exusiai smiled brightly, taking a sip of her own drink with a giggle. "Oh? Is it good?~"
"It's wonderful…" Rangers said as his body relaxed almost immediately, tension leaving his form rather quickly. He drank deeply from the cup, swallowing slowly as his vision tinged a soft purple. His tail swayed as he stumbled a bit, and Exusiai giggled as she made sure he didn't fall over.
"Here, let's find a place to sit down~"
The next hour or two passed in a haze for the Savra, but he had to admit, it was the most relaxed two hours he had experienced in a very long time. Whatever this particular fruit was, it greatly diminished his senses, and he could feel the world move more slowly around him as he rested back on the couch with the Angel girl. Exusiai, meanwhile, seemed used to seeing people like this, and she chatted away softly, her hand making small motions as she continued to drink from her own cup.
When she asked if he wanted another, he merely nodded, and they went on like that for a while. Rangers spoke few words that even he could comprehend, but they seemed to be coherent enough for Exusiai, who would smile and continue chatting all the same. His head turned to her as she got up and spoke to him.
"I'm going to go get us some more drink okay?~ Last ones, I promise~"
He nodded as he watched her stumble off, barely registering her words in the back of his mind. His hands wandered over his scarf, stained a bit from what he had spilled on it. As he looked up, he thought he saw Exusiai, but she seemed to be talking with two other males. Their dark brown coats and hats shifted as they moved, but they swam with the same slowness as the world did. The scene didn't bother him, since she seemed to be pretty friendly with them. One grabbed her by the shoulder, and the two led her towards the door that led out of the room as Rangers watched.
It wasn't until his sluggish mind analyzed the situation that the little epicenter of his brain that had kept him alive so long started to scream in frustration. His eyes widened slightly as his purple tinged field of vision swam when jolted up, making a few other patrons lazily throw their eyes in his direction. He stumbled a bit, heading towards the door with a grunt.
Exusiai. Alone. Danger.
The sobriety that the sudden adrenaline gave him impressed him, as he ran/stumbled down the hall. He could catch a glimpse of the two as they pulled Exusiai into the room they had entered through, and he pressed passed several other intoxicated patrons as he moved quickly. His listening was strained, but he thought he heard the window slamming shut as he approached. The Savra almost skidded as he slid into the room, heading to the window and throwing it open easily. The cold air of Lungmen hit him as he stumbled onto the fire escape, looking down over the alleyway.
Exusiai swayed a bit as she stood below, giving a smile as the two males reached into their jackets in front of her and pulled out shining blades with knuckles on the handles. She cracked her knuckles, giving a grin as she giggled. "Ah come on, you all are still mad about that?~ I thought Lupos could be the more 'forgive and forget' types when all is said and done."
"Nothing to forgive here, Redhead. You made us look damn incompetent, and we're not gonna let that slide regardless of what the boss said." The male on the left said as his knuckles clenched around the guard.
"Fine then~ Let's do this so I can get back to my friend~" She smirked as she flipped up the gun on her hip, finger sliding into place before a blade landed on top of it from behind. The angel girl yelped as it flung the gun out of her hand, and a sickening crack sounded out as Exusiai turned only to be met with another knuckle guard to her face. Her feet fell out from under her as she hit the ground, scrambling as two other Lupo thugs came from the dumpster behind her.
Rangers suddenly shifted, feeling his world go sideways as his body tucked forwards, and his form launched off the fire escape and towards one of the Lupo below. He slammed into them and grabbed their face in his scaled hand, driving it into the dirt hard as he landed onto the alley floor with a gasp. He knew he was going to feel it in the morning, but it was a damn good thing he was drunk right now. The other three Lupo gave startled growls as the one in his grasp went limp.
"Exusiai. Who are your friends…?" The Savra said as he stood up, stumbling a bit as he turned. He grunted as he suddenly took two body shots from the Lupo beside him, and his hand barely caught the third before he slammed his head into the thug's face.
"Just a couple of assholes!~" Exusiai shouted a bit as she hopped up, going for her gun as the other two went to intercept her. Rangers grabbed the wrist of the Lupo in his hold and pushed with all his strength towards them, using him as a ram into the other two Lupo. They all stumbled to the ground as the angel girl moved and snatched her gun up from the floor. "Rangers! Roll!"
He did so as the sudden sound of gunfire rocked the small alleyway, and several dull thuds were heard as the three Lupos were suddenly riddled with bullets. Rangers gasped as he felt several fly by, one slamming into his leg as he hissed. He reached to find that it wasn't bleeding, looking confused for a moment as Exusiai gave a sigh. His head turned to see her hand reaching out towards him, blood dripping from her nose and onto the floor as she grinned. Smoke trailed up from her gun.
"Oh damn, did you get hit by a stray? Sorry. Don't worry though, it was just a rubber one~ No live fire in Lungmen~"
Rangers raised a brow, looking over at the unconscious forms of the Lupo thugs with a grunt. He grabbed her hand, gratefully taking it as he stumbled onto his feet with a huff. "Are you alright?"
"Alright? Man, I'm freaking pumped!~ You went barreling off that staircase like you were some sort of meteor!~" The angel grinned, slapping him on the shoulder, which made them both stumble.
"I… suppose I did. I was not very fond of them striking you like that. You think they would have at least had the decency to fight you fairly if this was a dispute."
"Probs not. These are the salty ones to be sure~ Speaking of which, we should probably leave now before more show up or the police get here~" Exusiai grinned as she slid her gun back into place before heading on a brisk pace out of the alley. She turned the corner, and Rangers heard a thud before he ran over himself to find her lying on the ground.
"Young Exusiai?!"
The redhead gave a groan and rolled onto her back, looking up at him with a grin. "Hah~ I'm so fucked up~"
He gave a sigh as he reached down, throwing her arm over his shoulder as he helped her up. "Come on, let me assist you…"
Rangers sighed as he watched the sky for a moment, the purple in his vision having faded some time ago. He looked back over at the woman still leaning on him, his arm wrapped around her as he shook her slightly. "Young Exusiai, come on, we still need to make our way back to Rhodes Island before it is too late."
Exusiai groaned, eyes peeking open as she huffed lightly. "But I'm so comfortable~ Can't you carry me some more?~"
He snorted gently. "If I carry you anymore, I am not responsible for the injuries both of us would sustain. I am quite exhausted now, young one."
The angel girl nodded and lightly pushed out of his hold, standing and giving a stretch as she tried to wipe some of the sticky leftover of her bloody nose on her sleeve. "Man, I hope the Boss is alright with us getting patched up from a street fight~"
"I do believe the Doctor will be fine with it. I will explain the situation for us."
"Awwww~ Thanks, Grandpa~ You're the best~" She smiled as she helped him to his feet.
The Savra was acutely aware just how exhausted he was as he stood, giving a sigh. "Exusiai, if we go out again, we are very much going to be watching ourselves carefully with our imbibing."
"But Grandpaaaaaaa…" She said in a playful whine, which ended at the more serious look from the Savra. Exusiai smiled a bit, giving a soft huff. "Alright alright, things might have been avoided if I was a little more sober~ But Rangers?~"
"Yes?" He said with a soft groan as he popped his joints gently.
"Thanks for hanging out, and fighting with me, and basically just being cool overall tonight~"
If the Savra could blush, he probably would have done so. "Urk… well… you're welcome, Young Exusiai. Let's just… watch ourselves next time."
"Yeah yeah, party with a plan next time~ Race you!" She grinned, running off down the street with a sudden burst of energy.
Rangers yelped, moving after her with a pant. "Wait! How are you suddenly so energetic!? Exu- Exusiai!"
The albino Savra huffed as he tried to keep up, following the laughter of the angel girl down the street with a soft groan.
