Yes I am alive. So sorry for all you guys that have been waiting for a couple years but I finally have an update! I am going to try and work on this story more since i finally figured out how it is going to end. This chapter is short and, please don't hate me, was actually written about a year and half ago and I totally forgot so I am also very sorry about that. Without further interruption, the story….
Previously:
"Well, well, well, looks like the Bat did know you after all." Shadow whipped around in a fighting stance but relaxed after he saw who it was. Batman and his little pet. Speaking of the pet, she was carrying his medical supplies.
"Took you long enough." Shadow scoffed at the bats' narrowed eyes.
"What do you want?" Straight to the point as usual
"Well Batman, I wanted to tell you to stop looking for the missing talon." Shadow extended his uninjured arm for the medical supplies before focusing on the man in front of him again
"Why would I stop my search for the talon?" Batman's voice had the barest hint of confusion in his voice and Shadow sighed inwardly.
"Let me rephrase that, you will stop looking for the talon."
"You can't tell us what to do!" Shadow spared a glance for the girl before looking down and bracing himself. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Batman and Batgirl tense and get into defensive stances. Dick smirked. It's good to know they think of him as a threat. Shadow slowly straightened his broken arm. He winced and then let out a loud sigh as he realized that his arm had healed wrong. He would have to break it again. Quickly, he cast a thoughtful look towards the two bats who were still in defensive position. They could help.
"Hey red," shadow smiled lightly at Batgirl's glare, "come her. I need you help with something." Batgirl was gazing at him skeptically but when Batman didn't object, she walked over to him.
"What do you want?" She asked (demanded)
"Hold my hand."
"W-what?!"
"Ah um that came out wrong. Uh…..what I need is for you to hold my wrist." Batgirl gaped at him and Shadow was thankful that she couldn't see his face in the dim light. After a moment of awkward staring, Shadow thrust his used-to-be broken arm towards her and waited.
"Why do you want me to hold your wrist?" Batgirl slowly gripped his wrist and held it. Shadow took a deep breath before answering her
"So I can do this." As he finished speaking, he brought his other arm down on where the break was. Batgirl yelled as a loud snap sounded in both their ears. Dick's vision swarmed black for a moment before he was able to concentrate again. Batman had moved, he was now standing directly in front of him.
"Why did you do that?" He demanded as he grabbed my arm and inspected the damage
"It- it healed wrong." Shadow said through gritted teeth "Had to-had to break it so I could reset it." Shadow gently took his arm from the furious and confused bat and gingerly reset it. After holding in the correct position for a few seconds, he felt his arm begin to heal. Nodding, Shadow returned his gaze to the two vigilantes on the roof across from him. Batman was glaring at him with a look of concern on his cowled face while Batgirl looked horrified.
"I can't believe you just did that!" Shadow looked at her surprised
"It's not that bad."
"You tricked me into helping you break your arm!" Oh. That's why she was upset
"It won't be broken for long."
"What do you mean! Broken bones take weeks to heal!"
"Nope, see?" Dick smirked at Batgirl's bemused expression as he waved around his previously broken arm "Good as new." Batman narrowed his eyes at him
"How did you heal that fast?"
"You know, I'm not going to tell you that." Shadow winced as the bat narrowed his eyes even further. Great. Now he's suspicious, or, more so. "Look," shadow glanced between the two bats, "I don't trust you enough to tell you guys that." Batman hesitantly nodded and Shadow sighed in relief. Heroes always agree whenever you throw trust out there.
"Anyway, back to business," Shadow shook out his arm and glared at the two bats "I need your word that you will stop looking into the talons or I will find ways to stop you." Batman stared at him intently and a stubborn look flashed into Batgirl's face but neither of them spoke.
"Your word." Shadow repeated
"Fine. You have my word that I will not look into the talon." Batman spoke angrily
Shadow grinned happily which seemed to surprise both bats
"Sweet! So now that that's cleared up, I gotta go find my bike. It was a pleasure talking to you and I'm sure we shall meet again." Shadow gave a bow before jumping off the side of the building while the two bats called out in surprise. As the wind whipped past his face, Dick couldn't help but let out a cackle before shooting off a grapple line and disappearing into the darkness.
A few hours later…...At the Batcave
Batgirl was furiously typing away on her handheld computer before turning to enter a few things into the main console. After a few more clicks of her keyboard, she let out an annoyed yell.
"Ugh why can't I find anything! There is nothing about a court of owls or talons anywhere besides that stupid nursery rhyme!"
"I thought we promised not to look into that." Barbara jumped at the sudden voice behind her and spun around quickly while pointing a finger at Batman
"No, you promised not to look into it, I never said anything." She smirked as she saw Batman's head tilt in amusement "Besides, you can't tell me you aren't curious about that guy? He broke his freakin' arm and then broke it again because it "heals wrong" in the time between the crash and our talk. Nobody can heal that fast besides a speedster and he definitely wasn't one of them." Batman nodded slowly as she spoke
"I can't deny that I am curious but I gave my word that I wouldn't look for information. He seemed frightened by something when he asked us not to."
"I know but still, I never said anything about not doing research."
"I think it was implied."
"I think you just don't want me to learn something that you don't already know." Barbara snapped "Look we know this guys name is Dick, he leads an extremely powerful but surprisingly docile gang, he knows how to fight, you yourself said he recognized that owl dude so he knows something about them and he asked us not to look into the court, whatever that is, which also means that there must be something to find! You can't tell me you just want to sit back and sweep it all under the rug because he asked, no, ordered you to stop!"
"That's not what I'm saying, I'm saying there are other ways to find our information."
Thank you all so much for still waiting on this story after all this time, reviews would be loved and even if you don't have criticism i would also love to hear your ideas of how the story should take off, I have a general idea but specifics in some areas are still on the drawing board. Thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week!
