Chapter ~ Bait and Trap
Justin sat at the ground, holding onto the fallen Gamma as he stared at Wallis in disbelief. The field around them was covered in ice and snow, from the previous battle. Gamma still hadn't awoken, his body still cold to the touch.
From the sidelines, Anabel, Aubree, and Caleb sat in silence, not believing what they had just heard.
"He can't be serious.." Caleb muttered to himself, having forgotten about the special rule himself.
Anabel brought her hands to her mouth. "He can't be serious can he?" She asked to herself, already knowing that it was true.
Emie laughed to herself. "Huh, way to go Wallis." She exclaimed, praising her superior.
Justin slowly returned Gamma, standing up to Wallis. He tried to remain calm. "No.. no I won't give you Mew. I'm no longer an official member of the Ruby Royals, so that rule doesn't apply to me!" He declared, clutching Gamma's pokeball in his hands.
Wallis shook his head, scoffing at Justin's words. "Oh, but they do count. Don't you remember, Micheal? You agreed to the rules of an official Ruby Royal battle. The rules apply to you just as they would to me!" Wallis laughed, grabbing for Mew's pokeball.
Justin backed away from the ginger trainer, grabbing Mew's pokeball, and tightening his grip. "You've had your match, now leave!" He cried out shivering slightly; both from the cold, and from the fear of losing Mew.
Wallis groaned, snapping his fingers. "Weavile.."
The Dark/Ice weasile immediately took off, attempting to swipe Mew's pokeball from Justin.
Justin called out in panic, before a figure appeared out of thin air, blasting Weavile with a powerful attack.
Weavile flew through the air, before landing on his feet. Trainer and pokemon glared at Prankster, as the Gengar revved up a Focus Blast, daring the two to try and approach.
Caleb caught up to his trust ghost type, walking right up to Wallis, and staring the trainer in the eyes.
"That's enough, Wallis. Justin has been gone for eight years, you can't possibly expect him to remember a rule as dumb as that one. You've had your match. Now leave." Caleb demanded, standing a good five inches above Wallis.
The ginger was not impressed. He merely scoffed. "You're in on Micheal's charade as well? Bah, it doesn't matter if he remembered the rules or not. He agreed to them, and not even you will stand in my way anymore, Caleb. I bet you're as weak as Micheal is-"
A sudden force began to emit from Caleb, creating a maleficent dark aura around him.
Wallis began to back away from Caleb, who's pupils had expanded completely over his eyes.
"You will leave. Now." Caleb demanded forcefully, scaring everyone in the area. Anabel and Aubree ducked behind the table where they were seated, afraid of this new side that Caleb was showing.
Justin, even though he knew about this aura ahead of time, still quivered a little, knowing that when Caleb was like this, he meant business.
Wallis gulped a little, before shaking his head. He turned towards Emie. "Come on, we're leaving." He commanded.
Emie nodded, too afraid of the aura Caleb was giving off to argue.
As the two began to leave, Wallis stopped behind Justin, not turning around to face him.
"Since you're an ex member of the Ruby Royals, I'm willing to give you a chance at getting your precious Delta back." He offered.
Justin didn't look towards Wallis; only staring at the ground. "Go on.." Was all he said.
Caleb turned towards his friend, in shock. "Justin, don't fall for his tricks."
Wallis ignored Caleb, grinning as he ensnared his trap. "Beat me and Emie in the tournament, and you can have her back." He stated, waiting for Justin's reply.
Justin said nothing, thinking about the offer. "What about the others..?" He asked.
Wallis shook his head with a sigh. "I don't know what happened to the others; that's something you'd have to ask Pine." He answered.
The cold chill of the season blew through the park, only adding to the tense situation.
Justin thought about it a few seconds more. "And if I lose?" He quizzed, knowing that Wallis wouldn't give an offer without consequence.
The ginger trainer's grin widened. "You return to Laneno with us when all is said and done. You forfeit your pokemon, all of them, to Pine, and never train again." He declared.
Caleb, Anabel, and Aubree all watched in shock as Wallis strung the do-or-die rules for Justin.
Caleb stepped forward, intending to answer for Justin. "No deal! This is just another one of your traps to-" He was interrupted by Justin.
"Deal." Was all Justin muttered, wanting nothing more than to get Delta back.
Caleb nearly tripped over himself as Justin accepted the ludicrous offer. "Dude, no!" Caleb cried out. But it was already too late.
Wallis laughed, bellowing into the cold air. "Ha, it's a deal then! Better start packing your bags, cause if this battle is any indication of how the tournament match is going to go, then you're toast!" The Ruby leader taunted, walking away from Justin, who's eyes began to widen at the realization of what he just did.
"See you in three days, Micheal." Wallis departed, getting one last shot in, before leaving.
Emie took off not long after Wallis did. "Don't be sad, Mikey, it won't be so bad! We'll be together again!" She cooed, before catching up to Wallis.
The park grew silent, as Caleb picked Justin up off the ground, shaking the slightly younger trainer haphazardly.
"Micheal, what were you thinking?!" Caleb scolded, being too panicked to call his friend by his other name.
Justin began stuttering, still not having grasped the situation. "I-I don't know! All I could think about was saving Delta, and then, and then-" Justin couldn't continue, the situation he had dug himself into weighing heavy on his shoulders.
"Oh no.. Mew, Gamma! I- I have to go!" Justin declared, running off from the group.
"Micheal wait-!" Caleb called out, only to be ignored. He watched his friend run into the city, lost in the crowd.
The Ghost type trainer sighed as he slumped to the ground, shivering a little as he landed in some of the leftover snow.
Aubree and Anabel soon walked over to the Caleb, a thousand questions running in their mind.
"You're not gonna go after him?" Anabel quizzed, kneeling next to the raven haired trainer.
Caleb shook his head. "Not yet.. he needs some time. And I need to think." He asserted, trying to come up with a plan.
Not five seconds later, he felt Aubree's hand smack him upside the head. "Ow!" He shouted, more out of surprise than of pain.
He turned his head to find two very angry ladies staring at him.
"Then you can tell us what the heck that was all about!" Anabel demanded, finally sick of being out of the know.
"Yea, why did that Wallis guy have Justin's pokemon, why were you all calling him Micheal, and what's a Ruby Royal?!" Aubree declared, also wanting answers.
Caleb sighed slowly, knowing that there was no getting out of this one.
"Fine.. I guess the glameow's out of the bag, now." Caleb got up, and looked into the clouds overhead.
"Now.. where to begin?
