Chapter 10
Moreau watched as his man walked in the room without Nate and with a bloody shirt and a pained look on his face.
"Where is Ford?"
"I didn't get him. He sent me with a message." The man said knowing that he was in danger here, he could see the anger in Moreau's eyes, but he also saw something else.
"What message?"
"He said to tell you that you don't really know who he is, but you are going to find out. That you should run like you did before or he is going to kill you and that there is no plane to get you way this time." The man rattled off summarising what he thought Nate had said.
Moreau said nothing as he listened to the man. So Nate thought he could scare him well he had another thing coming, he thought he did not know him, well Nathan Ford did not know who Damian Moreau was either, but he was going to find out.
"So you let a man who was injured get the better of you and you are supposed to be the best." Moreau said looking at the man with disgust. "I don't like people who fall down on their jobs, if you can't take on a man that is almost half dead then what use are you to me?" Moreau said reaching under his desk pulling out his gun and putting a bullet through the man's head as he finished speaking.
"Mr Moreau…" Another of his men said as they ran into the room on hearing the shot then stopping as they saw the body.
"Get rid of him." Moreau said as he put the gun down.
The man looked at his boss and then nodded calling some of the others over to take the body away. Then he turned to Moreau waiting to hear what to do.
"Get out, I need to think." Moreau said harshly and the man nodded. "Double the guards on the house and be ready to move soon." He nodded again and then turned and left, obviously his boss was not in a good frame of mind and he had worked for the man before, it did not do to be around him when he was in this mood.
Moreau poured himself another whiskey and sat down. So Nathan was going to come after him, like he had last time but this time he meant to kill him. He could have killed him or had him killed last time but that was with the help of his team, this time he was alone, and Moreau was ready for him. But he did not know where the man was and when he would be coming. The man was a lot more than just a Mastermind he thought, he had bested his man who was a hitter and that could not have been easy. Add to that the man was still suffering from a gunshot wound that he had given him, so what would he be like when he was completely well. No he had to go after him now, before the team got to him and gave him the help he needed and before he could come after him. So where was he.
Moreau ran over the message that his man had given him from Nate. What did it mean besides the obvious? He stood and poured himself another drink as he contemplated the situation.
"You are going to Boston aren't you?" Moreau said to himself. "Back to where it all started where we met. Well that is fine, far away from your team and everybody who can help you. You are not thinking straight Ford and you are going to pay the price for that." Moreau said to himself with a smile. Nate was leading him away from his team, but at the same time he was isolating himself and making himself vulnerable. "Well we shall see who outwits who here Ford, who goes down this time."
Moreau finished his drink and strode out the room calling his man and telling him to make the arrangements and that they would be going to Boston. He had properties there unlike here, he had resources that he doubted Ford would know about. The man thought he would have home ground advantage, but he would have more than Ford and he would be more prepared for anything the man might try he thought.
While Moreau was boarding his private jet to Boston Nate was disembarking from his chartered flight. He hailed a cab and told them where he wanted to go. He was tired, exhausted actually and sore as well. He knew he needed to rest, to sleep and regain some of his strength. Moreau would be coming he had no doubt about that, and he would not have too much of a lead on him. He sat back in his seat and closed his eyes and before he knew it the cab driver was waking him and telling him they had arrived. Nate thanked him and climbed out of the cab. He turned and looked at the house he had arrived at and smiled to himself. Then he took out his keys and walked up unlocking the door and entering. He dropped his bags at the door as he entered. The house was empty and quiet, he walked up to the wet bar and poured himself a whiskey before taking a seat on one of the comfortable chairs. Then he put his head back and closed his eyes as he thought about Sophie and his family. He knew they would be incredibly angry with him and beside themselves with worry, but they had to know he was doing this because it was better for them not to be involved. He was going to kill Moreau and he knew they all disapproved of that, none more than Sophie, but it was something he had to do. This was not like with Dubenich or Latimer, this was different, and he was not going to be dissuaded from his goal, not by them, not by anybody. He was sure that nobody would find him here, he was safe at least for a while and he needed some time to regroup and get the rest of the plan in place, although a lot of the plan depended on Moreau behaving the way he wanted him to. He sighed to himself downing the rest of the whiskey in the glass and then rose to pour himself another before moving to the bedroom. He sat down on the bed and then lay back closing his eyes and soon drifted into sleep.
Moreau landed a few hours after Nate and immediately made his way to one of his safe houses that he still had from four years ago, it was one that he knew Eliot would not know about, one of the few that were completely under the radar. He wondered where Nate was and what plans the man had for him. He had several men with him and had planned for a few more as well. He had instructed one of his men to investigate Nate's old apartment in case the man had gone there and there was nothing more he could do for now. He dropped into a chair and one of his guys handed him a glass of whiskey.
"Make sure the guards are ready for anything." Moreau instructed him as he took the glass.
He could not discount Nate's team and Eliot coming after him either. He was sure that Hardison would not be able to find this place, but he was not taking any chances. He did not think that they knew where Nate was though, that he had come to Boston but again, but that team was good with or without their Mastermind, they had proved that over the last year and he was going to be ready for anything. The good thing was they would be more intent on finding Nate and not him. He thought about that for a minute, perhaps he should have them do the heavy lifting, lead him to Nate. No he thought it was too risky, if they picked up on it then he would have a war on two fronts, the team and Nathan, no he would take care of Ford first, then the rest would also pay.
