Chapter 36
"You ready?" Beca asked Halsey as the two were standing backstage waiting for the cue.
Halsey nodded "Always, this is what we've been waiting for." She smiled.
Halsey received her cue as she was preforming first. She started it off with singing a new song she made called "Nightmare" which she got the inspiration from Beca's label. After she sang a part of it Beca joined her for "Strangers" before Beca closed it out with a new song "Great One". Once Beca closed it the lights dimmed, and they walked off with a standing ovation from everyone in attendance.
When they were backstage the two of them engulfed one another in a tight embrace enjoying the moment.
"We did it." Halsey said happily.
"Dam right we did." Beca said back.
Halsey broke the embrace "One last award, may the best girl win." Halsey joked.
Beca chuckled "At the end of the day we both won as a team, but yeah may the best girl win the last award." Beca smirked.
As it was time for the last award Justin Bieber walked on stage along with DJ Khalid to announce the final award which was song of the year. Halsey's "Bad at Love" was nominated along with Beca's "Perfect".
"And the award for song of the year goes to" Justin Bieber spoke into the mic as DJ Khalid opened the envelope and leaned forward to speak "Perfect, Beca Mitchell." Khalid said.
Halsey clapped in excitement for Beca while Beca herself was stunned.
"Holy shit scrappy you did it!" Halsey said hugging the girl.
Beca just stood frozen "I did it." She mumbled.
Halsey grabbed her hand and lead her to the ramp "Yes you did now get your award." She laughed nudging the smaller girl forward.
Beca made her way up the stair of the ramp way and walked over to where Bieber and Khalid were hugging each of them and thanking them before grabbing the award and standing in front of the mic.
She looked over to her team and gave them a smile.
"Geez I really don't know what to say, I don't think I've had to talk this much in one night ever." She said causing everyone to laugh "I wasn't kidding guys." She said with a chuckle "Seriously this is insane. When I first started my career three years ago, I never pictured having a night quite like this, I mean five Grammy's? Like come on this is wild. None of this would be possible without the love and support I get from all of you so from the bottom of my heart thank you. I know you all are probably tired of hearing me say this, but I wouldn't be standing here if it wasn't for my team and until all this is over, I'll never stop thanking them." She said as she looked over towards them once more "Thank you guys for everything going all the way back to Barden to everything in the future, these awards are just as much yours as they are mine. Love you all with all I have." Beca finished her speech with a wave and bow.
She walked backstage and headed towards the dressing room she shared with Halsey as they awaited the rest of the team to get there.
"What a night." Beca said said looking at the nine Grammy awards sitting on the table in front of them.
Halsey nodded "You can say that again. Who would have thought when we first met eight months ago that we'd be here, me signed to your label and is winning all these Grammy?."
"Crazy how much things can change." Beca said.
Halsey smiled and patted her leg "Hey it's all changed for the better. We've both been through hell and now look at us."
Beca nodded and smiled "Happier than ever."
"Exactly." Halsey said just as she heard a knock at the door. "The calvary has arrived." She joked as she went to open the door.
The team walked in and everyone immediately congratulated the two of them.
Stacie walked over to Beca and planted a big kiss on her lips "I'm so proud of you baby, this what you've busted your ass off for all those years. I know it wasn't the easiest of roads, but you've made it and I couldn't be any prouder and happier for you."
Beca smiled and gave Stacie a quick kiss "Thanks babe but I wouldn't have any of this without you by my side being my rock through the dark days. Like I said all this is just as much yours as mines."
"Alright love birds we have an after party to attend." Amy called out.
Everyone laughed and headed towards the cars but Beca and Halsey has to make a stop at the carpet and take photos with all the awards.
"Ok small person here so give me a minute to make this work." Beca joked as she held out both arms as Stacie placed all the awards carefully on her hands and up her arms. Emily did the same for Halsey who was standing next to Beca. Once all the awards were placed on the girl's arms, they looked ahead and gave several different possess. After taking about ten different photos of the two, everyone else joined on for one big group picture. Of course, the media wanted a picture of the new power couple with the awards, so they gave them that as well.
They all hoped in the two separate cars and were off to the after-party CR and Jesse put together and unlike San Fran there would be no unwelcome guests.
Thirty minutes the after party was in full blown effect with everyone having a good time drinking and taking pictures with one another. The Bellas were there as well as the treble makers along with other artist that Beca and Halsey have worked with. Beca who was with Stacie excused herself and wanting to talk to a certain someone.
"Hey, can I talk to you?" Beca asked.
Aubrey, who was with Jessie, nodded "Of course." She answered as she followed Beca to a more quiet spot.
The two walked outside to the balcony of the location and Beca leaned against the railing facing Aubrey.
"So, what's up Bec?" Aubrey asked.
Beca took a deep breath "I just wanted to pull you aside and really thank you for everything."
"Beca you don't need to thank me anymore then you already have." Aubrey smiled.
"But I do Bree. I need to thank you for everything you've done and even for the things you don't realize you've done." Beca said.
"Like what?" Aubrey asked confused.
"I know we never saw eye to eye back in Barden, but you showed me what it was like being a leader and the kind of work ethic it takes to be successful and get to where you want to be at. Even though you took it to the extreme." Beca joked "Despite the rocky start, when we won ICCA's and we became actual friends you always protected me when you could and a lot of times you did it without even realizing it and that meant a lot to me. Especially when Chloe did what she did, and I know how tough that was for you considering how close you two are. A big part of me actually though you'd side with her and you'd forget me, but you didn't, you constantly checked on me and I truly thank you for that." Beca said.
"Beca I know back we weren't the best of friends, but you still meant a great deal to me and I never once agreed with her decision I hope you know." Aubrey said.
"I know Bree. After all that we got closer and I started to look at you as my older sister and you never did let me down. You, along with the others, really got me back on my feet and got me to where I'm at currently and I can't thank you enough for that. Even after San Fran you were persistent and helped squash all the Chloe drama. So, for someone who I consider to be my older sister, thank you for everything." Beca said.
Hearing all this brought tears to Aubrey's eyes "Becs you're welcome. If anyone deserves this, it's you and I'm honored that you see me as an older sister. I've never taken that for granted and I never will. I want to thank you for allowing to be your lawyer, friend and sister. Thank you for allowing me on this journey." Aubrey said emotionally.
Beca walked forward and hugged the blonde girl.
Aubrey quickly returned the embrace "I love you hobbit."
"I love you too blondie." Beca said.
The two stayed in the embrace for a few more moments before Aubrey broke free "Let's go sis you got an after party."
The two made their way back down and parted ways with a smile.
"What did she want babe?" Jessie asked.
Aubrey smiled and saw Beca make her way towards CR no doubt to thank her as well "Nothing love, we just talked about the night she had."
Jessie nodded "I'm sure she did."
Beca did make her way around thanking everyone from her team saving Jessie for last.
"Sup geek." Beca said sitting next to him.
"Sup witch." Jessie joked back.
The two laughed "Just going around making conversation." Beca said.
"Wow now that's a first." Jessie said with a gasp.
Beca gave him a nudge "Oh shut it Swanson."
"On a real note though, congratulations on all this. Proud of you." Jessie said with a smile.
"Thanks Jess. Thank you for everything you've done since we first met at Barden. You've done so much for me since then through everything you've stuck by my side and I can't thank you enough." Beca said.
Jesse put his arm around her shoulders "Hey no thanks needed. Like I've always told you, you deserve happiness and I just wanted to help you see that. I was just doing my job as your les-bro." He said with a smile.
"God you really need to stop saying that." Beca laughed.
"Never youngling." He said.
"Thank you for being my brother who always has my back and for being the best manager I can ask for." Beca said.
"Always my little annoying sister. Love you." He said back.
"Love you too." She said before standing up.
"I have one last thing to take care of." She said.
"What's that?" He asked.
"You'll see." She winked.
Beca made her way towards the DJ poking his shoulder to get his attention.
"Mind if I borrow the mic?" She asked.
He shook his head and paused the music handing her the mic with a smile.
Beca tapped the mic to make sure it was on, gathering everyone's attention in the process.
"Hey guys, I have a couple of things I want to say. First off thank you all for being here and for supporting Halsey and I, it means the world. Now for the next part I need my beautiful girlfriend to come up here." Beca said causing Stacie to get up confused and walk towards her. Beca pulled a chair next to the DJ booth and instructed Stacie to sit.
"Don't worry I'm not singing to you this time." She joked "See I've gone around thanking everyone for all they've done for me and telling them how much they mean to me. But I've saved you for last, now you're probably wondering why am I doing this how I'm doing it, well that'll be answered shortly. Stacie we both know how much you really mean to me and how much I love you. Hell, the whole world knows by now. I can also stand here and tell you how thankful I am for everything you've done for me but once again we all know how thankful I am. For about seven years now you've been my best friend and my rock sticking by my side through all the ups and downs, let's be real there's been a ton of those. For seven years you've been my biggest fan and for seven years you've been the person I go to for every and anything. For seven years you've been the person I've trusted the most and I've loved the most. For seven years you Stacie Conrad have been the most loyal and special person in my life." Beca said before standing in front of Stacie and reaching into her jacket pocket.
Stacie who had a feeling where this was going was instantly brought to tears but held them in until she was for sure.
Once Beca grabbed what she wanted she pulled it out and got down on one knee causing everyone to gasp and pull out their phones. Beca opened the box revealing an insane looking ring filled with diamonds and a singular emerald.
Seeing this opened the flood gates for Stacie as she brought her hands up to her mouth and let the tears fall.
"And all I want is for you to be that person for all eternity. All I want is to be able to spend forever with you so what do you say? Stacie Conrad will you do me the honor and marry me?" Beca asked.
Stacie nodded nonstop not being able to speak. Beca smiled and grabbed Stacie's left hand sliding the ring on her ring finger. She got up and placed a loving kiss on Stacie's lips causing everyone in attendance to clap for the newly engaged couple.
"I love you." Stacie said through the tears.
Beca smiled "I love you too."
Stacie brought her in for a hug which Beca returned with a smile still on her face.
"This is it, I did it." She said quietly.
