I DON'T OWN THE BOONDOCKS

It was a quiet day with the trees becoming a warm orange shade signaling the soon to be arrival of Autumn. Jasmine was walking along the sidewalk with her sketch pad having plans to draw a few nature backdrops having a Bambi outline in her head when she noticed Huey sitting by the tree by himself. Now this wasn't that unusual for him as both of them had marked the spot as a sort of safe haven to get away from the chaos of the world. But the thing that had made her concerned was the cold stare on his face and the fact that his laptop bag was sitting untouched beside him. She had come to realize after knowing him long enough and a good sense for reading people that the cold stare that made people think he was about to attack whoever went near them was actually just his face.

As she walked a little closer to him she saw a distinct look of contemplation in his eyes which meant he had been in his thoughts for awhile. She sat down next to him with a silent ease she had grown used to using whenever she was around small animals that required a calm gentle touch. "what mystery of the universe are you trying to solve today" knowing whenever he got a deep question stuck in his mind there was no pulling him out of it till he found an answer.

After a few seconds of him registering the fact that he wasn't alone anymore and what had been asked he looked as he was trying to put his thoughts into words. Jasmine was relived as it was usually a toss up of if he would talk to her or brush her off with a I'm fine leaving her with a gnawing sense of worry for her friend. "just thinking about how everybody seems to be fine with the way things are like they don't see all the corruption, selfishness and ignorance that's everywhere I mean don't they realize things could be better don't they want things to be better I mean like riley and grandad and everyone else seems to embrace this terrible way of life and its like what if there right you know if the only one seeing these things is me well then maybe its just me and I should just give up you know" He spoke in a tone that suggested he had been harboring the feelings of hopelessness for a while and had been facing them alone rejecting any attempts at help. Jasmine knew this was seriously affecting him if his barriers where down and had let her in.

She was unsure of how to handle this but knew if she tried to get anyone else involved he would just shove the feelings aside and act like nothing had happened along with keeping her at a distance till he forgave her. "Huey its not just you I mean yah there's a lot of people who act like that but its not all of them some try and do good its not like the world is stuck like this we just have to keep moving forward and maybe one day it'll pay off" Huey rolled his eyes "yah but it's a constant battle and us good people are outnumbered even if we get more people on our side their not all gonna be doing it for good reasons and just want their own selfish desires filled and then crazy people will get into the mix and ruin everything we worked for just using it to promote their own agenda like it just seems like everyone wants me to stop and let them be terrible people I mean no one really listens or respects me around here maybe that's just proof to leave everything alone"

Jazmine felt a chill go down her spine. Huey couldn't give up he was the smartest person she knew and felt could actually change the world. "I do though" she replied hoping this would help. Huey's retort had a cynical edge to it "yah but you're the only one who does even though you shouldn't I can see how it hurts you but you still stick around even when no one else will" his voice had a mournful vibe clearly understanding the reason why so many people avoided him. Jazmine without thinking immediately gave her reasons " because you're the only one who tells me truth and treats me like I can understand things even if it hurts I still want to know because it makes me feel better to know the truth" Huey gave her a surprised look that was quickly replaced by doubt "ok so even if you like the truth you still could have found it in books or something that didn't have a personality of barbed wire" Jazmine retorted back "well yah but your better than books you actually show me a lot more than I could've found on my own and after you get past the barbed wire then you get someone that's a lot better than most of the idiots the world is filled with."

At the last part Huey gave a small smirk of appreciation. He continued on with his pessimistic train of thought still not convinced "alright even if you still like me that doesn't solve the fact that I'm the only one around here that sees the world as it is and wants to make it better I mean our very existence in a cosmic sense is meaningless the world is only a speck of dust in the universe and the things are on it are just atoms that have no purpose I know we can make our own meaning out of life but my meaning is trying to help people and its constantly being denied from me what did I do to deserve this man I mean everyone else can find meaning and fulfillment in their lives but mine keeps being blocked and pulled away from me" Jazmine jumped in after he finished ready to prove that his purpose in life was still alive. "well you still help people you stopped me from being lemonade slave ,you saved an innocent man from death when he was seconds from being executed and you've saved Riley from dying from his own recklessness more times than should be healthy I mean you still put more good into the world than people twice your age you can't stop trying to help because even the things you think are small still are ten times the accomplishments than the majority of people earn in lifetimes and when you get older I'm sure your going to bring the world to its knees."

At the end of her speech the two looked at each other and locked eyes trying to gauge what the other was thinking. For a minute the world was still as green eyes met brown speaking a language that transcended words. Slowly Huey nodded having understood Jazmine and admitting that for now his thoughts of abandoning his ambition and leaving the world to become worse had been pushed aside for now.

After the two had a moment to clear their heads from the intensely of the conversation Jazmine pointed to his laptop long forgotten and in a relaxed voice asked "do you want to watch a movie I've been curious about fight club and my parents won't let me see it" Huey had a look of calmness as he pulled up a streaming site and put his coat around the two of them to allegedly block out the sun and as the first leaves of the season fell onto the grass a content air radiated from the two who where in their own little corner of the world with the only inhabitants being a revolutionary activist with dark eyes that seemed to know too much of the world and a caring girl with green eyes that saw the beauty in even the darkest parts of the world.

AUTHORS NOTE so this is my second boondocks fic and I hope it was good. the boondocks is one of those shows that introduced me to a lot of ideas and ways of thinking than I would have been exposed to on my own that has rightfully earned a spot in the hall of fame beside the Simpsons, Bojack horseman and futurama. I've always been into digging deep into the characters and settings and pulling out something that's a bit more than what's on the surface. Huey is one of the best characters in the show and along with Lisa Simpson has made the show as a whole gain a perspective that most shows don't with their ideas and depth that they present and makes me want to see past the surface on them. Huey however has something Lisa doesn't though and that's Jazmine who is usually ignored unless its to show her innocent nature being exploited but they both are essential to keep the other grounded. Huey gives Jazmine a window into the world and teaches her to question things and seek out the truth and Jazmine meanwhile gives Huey a chance to step outside of his own quest to right the wrongs of the world keeping him from going insane and remember what he's fighting for. Its why they both stick to each other. Huey needs someone to tether him to the ground and Jazmine needs someone to help her float. sorry if this explanation was unnecessary but I think its why the characters haven't been derailed into caricatures of themselves like so many other shows have done. please review if you liked this thanks
