The story takes place right after the season 10 finale, after Dean killed Death, the Mark of Cain was removed and Darkness was released into the world. I mentioned before, new characters will be added and thrown in the story and I will bring back several former characters from the show in the upcoming future.
Chapter 98 Rowena's Coven
Portsmouth, New Hampshire
Somewhere in an affluent neighborhood sat a nice looking brown-brick five-story mansion. Surrounding it was a nice large garden of beautiful flowers. The mansion definitely looked like the typical home of a millionaire who probably had a staff of domestic help, the most expensive car or possibly a hired chauffeur as it was quite a beautiful scenery.
However, there was something different about this mansion that made it stand out. The exterior mansion was covered in drawings of symbols including the front door. In fact, they were angel and demon warding symbols that prevent angels or demons from entering the home.
Some distance away hiding behind some trees near the wooded area surrounding the homes are the figures of two men, who were none other than Castiel and Crowley as they stood there just watching the mansion and rarely taking their eyes off it. It had been a little over two weeks now since Castiel had summoned Crowley for his help in locating Rowena and a couple of days ago Crowley contacted him by iphone to let him know his demons found her giving him the location, the address and everything and Castiel teleported there within moments. And now the two of them are standing right outside the building where Rowena and her minions are residing and growing impatient in coming up with a plan to make their move and snatch Rowena.
But the fact remains, there are several obstacles preventing them from doing that just yet. First, the mansion Rowena and her group of fellow witches are residing in has been warded off preventing any angels or demons from entering the building. Even the driveway was marked with enochion sigils which they later learned were an angel depowering spell meaning it could take away the powers of any angels nearby. Castiel would later learn that these sigils were on also marked on some of the sidewalks in public buildings like the nearby grocery store, the local library, diners, restaurant and nearby shops which rendering Castiel with no powers when nearby these areas. Also, there is the fact since finding this place, neither Rowena nor her minions has left the mansion although they both know Rowena is inside the building. Crowley's spies were quite persistent and reliable in tracking her down.
They learned the mansion is owned by a middle-aged millionaire named James Shackell owner of a Shackell empire, who has been divorced more than once and lives alone. This man also hasn't left the mansion although his domestic staff which consists of two maids, a cook and a gardener have but neither of them are able to approach these workers as they learned the hard way when trying. It turns out that these employees are also themselves marked with angel and demon warding symbols which Castiel figured are tattooed on them preventing either of them from getting near these people and their homes are also warded off to keep them away.
"She really came prepared" Castiel said when he first learned of all of this.
Then, there is the fact whenever Castiel or Crowely enter a place like a diner or library to talk about their next move, they are constantly being watched by employees who work there who either are glancing at them while talking on their iphones in a secretive matter. Even when they walk out in the streets, they caught a couple of policemen watching their every move talking on their phones not taking their eyes off them.
"So, she has her spies now all over this place reporting back to her I assume under a spell she conjured up turning them into her personal puppets" Crowely had told Castiel.
He wanted to eliminate her spies right there and then partly out to spite her and to stop her being one step of ahead of them, but Castiel put a stop to that as he insisted they were not to kill any humans, who are possibly under her influence and are not responsible and he put his foot down on that to Crowley's annoyance. And now the two of them are just standing there at a distance behind some trees just watching trying to as they seemed to be out of any bright ideas.
"So, do you have any idea what the next step is?" Castied asked turning to Crowley. "I mean it's been two days now since your minions spotted her hear yet she hasn't stepped outside at all since we've been hear and there is no way for us to get inside" he went on with a tone of impatience.
"I assumed you had all the answers there angel luv, afterall you done nothing but make all the demands since we got here, no killing the innocent humans who are spying on us for her and reporting back to her our every move" Crowely said annoyed himself.
Castiel went on, "Like I said before, the humans are innocent, I don't want them harmed just want to catch Rowena and…."
"Yeah I know find your buddies the Winchesters, blah blah blah, but sometimes in war there is casualties" Crowley interrupted.
"This is not a battle, this is just a mission to find Sam and Dean" said Castiel.
"Whatever, anyway not to worry there, angel baby, it's time to be one step ahead of her for a change and I have finally come up with an idea" said Crowley.
"What?" said Castiel anxiously.
"Oh, wouldn't you like to know" said Crowley with a devilish grin on his face. "Anyway, my plan involves getting more help from more powerful source" he went on.
"What is this source?' asked Castiel.
"More like whom, and I happen to know just who I can use" said Crowley.
"Well, that may not be so good afterall since as I told you before that…" Castiel tried to explain before he was cut off again.
"Yeah, I know those two psychic babes your Winchester buddies hitched up with, grandmommy and granddaughter duo, whom you think my dear mother might have stashed away" Crowley added.
"I don't know that for sure, but they were missing too and I said its' possible they either with wherever Sam and Dean are or with her since your mother is a witch and these female humans have special abilities themselves" said Castiel.
"Yes, you think my mother might be using them for their gifts making them another army of slaves like she had with most the poor saps in this town probably even that poor bastard of this palace whom she somehow sunk her claws into" said Crowley.
Castiel turned to Crowley again. "I just want us to catch Rowena without any humans getting hurt" he told him sternly.
"Alright oh holy one, like I said I have found someone who can help us get us what we want, and I'll try to make sure none of your precious humans get hurt in the crossfire, that's all I can promise" said Crowley in an almost mocking tone.
"Well, I guess that have to do" said Casitel a bit satisfied.
They paused a few seconds glancing at the mansion again before Castiel turned to Crowley and spoke up again.
"Can you at least tell me who this someone is that is going to help us?" he asked Crowley.
"Don't you worry, it's somebody that has as much of grunge against my dear mother as I have and she'll want her revenge and she's a useful ally to us that's all I will say right now" said Crowley.
Castiel sighed a bit growing more impatient of Crowley's vagueness.
"Patience my luv, I assure you I know what I'm doing, anyway you better phone Baby Winchester and catch him up with some of the lowdown so he won't feel left out" said Crowley sarcastically.
Castiel suddenly thought about Adam who insisted on not being left out of all of this ever since he learned his brothers were missing. Even though Castiel refused to take him along their mission to track down Rowena, he promised to keep Adam informed when they found Rowena mostly to shut Adam up who put up fight about being included and he knew Sam and Dean wouldn't want Adam involved in any dangerous missions and Rowena a powerful witch and far too dangerous. So, he left Adam back at the bunker and promised once they caught Rowena and she was completely powerless, he would fetch him, so he can be present in finding out what happened to Dean and Sam and how to locate them.
Castiel had already informed Adam about finding Rowena here in Portsmouth, New Hampshire but had to tell him of their inability to get to her since she warded off the place and he shut down Adam's suggestion of going over there and using himself as bait to lure her out so they can capture her. Even though Adam had read up about witch-killing spells and making witch-killing bullets to protect himself, Castiel wouldn't hear it, as Adam doesn't know how powerful and dangerous she is and he wasn't willing to risk his life no matter what out of respect for Sam and Dean. Castiel then took out of his iphone called Adam up who answered after three rings.
"Hello?" said Adam.
"Adam, it's me just wanted to phone you to inform you that Rowena is still holed up at the mansion where we located her but not to worry, Crowley has finally up with a plan to that could help us" he said.
"Oh really, that's great, I was going crazy here at the thought that you can't even get to her despite that she's just inches from you" he replied anxiously.
"Me too Adam, I just hope Crowley's plan works" said Castiel as he turned to Crowley with a stern look.
"Yeah, but please tell me what is this plan?" asked Adam.
"Well, Crowley decided we needed extra help on getting to Rowena so he knows someone who can assist us in trapping her, someone just as powerful as she is he informs me" said Castiel.
"Really, who is it?" Adam asked again anxiously.
"He won't say right now but don't worry Adam, we have this taken care of and Rowena will be in our clutches soon" that's all I can tell you" said Castiel.
"I hope so, I say I'm tired of waiting please just find out what that bitch did to Dean and Sam and fast" said Adam.
"We will Adam" replied Castiel calmly.
"And remember I want to be there once you have her captured, I want to hear it out of her mouth what she did to them" Adam said.
"I promise once that is done I will come and get you, just relax Adam" said Castiel.
"I can't relax Castiel until this is over" he replied back.
"Well at least try, find something to do to get your mind of all of this" Castiel said.
"I'm too distracted to do anything, well maybe I could practice my shooting on the range again that always helps plus I've been imaging the target is Rowena's head" said Adam.
"Okay you do that then" said Castiel a bit amused.
"Castiel, just get that bitch and find out what she did to Dean and Sam and do it soon, please" Adam pleaded.
"I will Adam, I can promise you that and when we get her, I'll let you know right away just take it easy okay" said Castiel in his typical soothing voice.
"Like I said, I'll try, I really will" said Adam.
"Good, I have to get off now but take care" said Castiel.
"You too Castiel and thanks" said Adam.
Castiel then hung up and placed the iphone back in his coat pocket.
"Oh how nice of you to comfort the little pup, just like a good little papa" replied Crowley who couldn't help being his sarcastic self.
Castiel wasn't fazed at all by Crowley's remarks. "Let's just hope your plan works" he told him.
"Don't you worry luv, like I said before, I got it covered" replied Crowley sounding so sure of himself.
Meanwhile, inside the mansion, Rowena sat at the dining room table dressed in nice fancy red long sleeve dress, the type that wealthy women could afford. She also had on nice expensive jewelry from long gold circle- shaped earrings. A nice pearl necklace and a diamond bracelet on her left wrist. She also had on some nice makeup with ruby red lipstick and her long red hair was impeccably styled. The dining room table was long and fancy and looked quite eloquent, the type that is found in a wealthy home. She was eating a nice tuna fish sandwich on a nice fancy looking plate. She wasn't alone for surrounding her at the table were fellow witches also eating whatever lunch they desired. At the left side of the table sitting near Rowena, was her friend Isadora the one who helped her break out of Madame Bess's house where the Winchesters were holding her captive forcing her to help them with a spell to put the Mark of Cain back on Dean in order to lock away Darkness. She managed to outsmart them though and sent them as well as their girlfriends to another place where they won't be a bother to her anymore.
Now, all she has to do is find a way keep that son of hers off her trail as she knows he is in town along with some of his minions. So far, she warded off the mansion and she has some spies among some of the residents of the city thanks to her advanced servitude spell who had reported back to her on his movements and she is aware that her son has that angel sidekick Castiel along with him. She has to stay one step ahead of them and she hasn't even left the mansion since their arrival and they can't enter the place. To be extra cautious, she even warded off the two domestic help by tattooing sigils on their bodies and had them ward off their homes. She knows she can't be holed up in this place forever and she will come up with a plan eventually on how to rid herself of her son and that angel for good but right now she's biding her time. So right now, she sat there at the table like some lady of the manor as she indulged in her tuna sandwich and tea while the other witches at the table where eating whatever lunch they desired.
After she finished, she took the bell that was near her plate and rang it the way they used to ring for the servants in the old days. Within in moments, a grayish haired middle-aged man wearing a nice black suit appeared holding a tray like that of a butler.
"Oh James, I'm finished my brunch, you can take away my plate and cup now" she said in an eloquent tone like a true lady of the manor.
"Alright Madame" replied the man, who then proceeded to take her plate and up and silverware and place them on his tray. Rowena then looked around at her companions at the table.
"I hope everybody else is enjoying their brunch" she replied with a smile trying to be a good host.
"Yes, the food is delicious Rowena" replied one of the witches.
"Same, here Rowena" said another witch.
"If you are finished with your food, James will be happy to take your plate unless you want seconds" replied Rowena.
"That is okay Rowena, I had enough, James can take my dish" said Isadora who was just finished up with a nice Caribbean dish.
"Very well, James!" Rowena called snapping her fingers directing James to take her dishes and with that James collected Isadora's plate cup and silverware.
Since everybody else was still eating their food, Rowena just turned to James and said, "that will be all for now, James".
"Very well madame" James replied and he was prepared to leave the room and head to the kitchen.
Before he made his way out, Rowena called him again.
"Oh, by the way, will you remind Janet that she is to clean the table once the table is clear, remind Louise that we will be having roast beef and smash potatoes for dinner tonight and afterwards check to see how Sasha is doing with the rooms " she told him.
"Yes, madame" James said as he nodded and just left the room with the tray like an obedient servant.
The witches were quite impressed with Rowena and the setup she had at this place even making James the owner of the mansion along with his three domestic help her slaves due to her using a more advanced servitude spell via the Book of Damned. Rowena can recall when she first met James. It was at a charity auction of expensive paintings. Rowena was pretending to bid for an expensive painting when James out-bid her or she let him think he did. She was wearing a nice expensive dress looking like a well-off society woman her face all dolled up with makeup and nice jewelry and her hair pinned up. She had already done her research on James Shackell, a twice divorced millionaire who owned a yacht, his own beach house in Martha's Vineyard and a villa in Europe and drives a fancy convertible. He was close to sixty but still a debonair handsome bachelor whose charm could attract the ladies especially gold-diggers.
After he out-bid her so he thought, she chatted him up and flirted with him which led to him asking her out to dinner at a nice expensive restaurant. After dinner, she invited him back to her hotel room where they continued to flirt and got really cozy, kissing on the couch and it was clear he wanted them to move to continue their tryst in the bedroom and from what Rowena heard was that James was quite a womanizer, a skirt chaser, which is probably why he has been divorced twice.
Anyway, she took him off guard when she placed her servitude spell on him and soon ordered him to take her back to his mansion and she then placed his maids and cook under her spell and made them all her slaves having them at her beck and call as she took over the mansion as if it were her own. She now had it made as she used James's credit card to spend on whatever expensive things she wanted, be it clothes and jewelry, or whatever she desired. She dined at the most expensive restaurants and she also started having a sexual tryst with the younger and hunkier gardener also via the servitude spell despite the young man already having a girlfriend as she didn't have much use for James anymore other than her personal servant. In the beginning, this led the gardener's angry girlfriend to show up at the mansion asking questions and giving angry rants until Rowena place a spell on her too making her forget about her boyfriend so she would go away once and for all.
Now she was living it up in the high life in his big house with her coven of witches as they try to work out their next move. Tired of waiting for her fellow witches finish their food, Rowena decided to speak up and get down to business.
"Okay ladies, lets discuss our next move again, we still need to find a way to get the grand coven on our side" she told them.
"I don't know Rowena, they are quite persistent in not working with you after what went down the last time, plus believe you had something to do with the disappearance of their leader Olivette" replied one of the witches.
"That is just an allegation which cannot be proven, besides I managed to persuade all of you to join me, I know we can persuade the grand coven we just have to offer them something" said Rowena.
"Rowena, you even showed them the Book of Dammed and they still wouldn't budge" replied Isadora who finished her meal.
"Yeah, the only thing that would make them consider is if you had given them the Book when they asked for it" replied another witch.
"There is no way in hell I would give up this book to them, no way!" replied Rowena seriously.
She paused for a moment as her fellow witches just stared at her silent.
Then in a more calm tone she replied, "but maybe, I could give offer them something else".
"Like what Rowena?" asked Isadora.
"A utopia where they will be free from any danger from persecution, be it from hunters or any other threat. Not only that, but they can become the most powerful beings in this country and rule over and the ordinary folks here will be under their thumbs, as they have all the power" she replied.
"I'm not sure if that would convince them" said another witch.
"Maybe if we show them, I mean I made several of the folks in this city my slaves, but I could spread that throughout the entire city, then other cities and other states, where we as a coven will rule, then we can offer them parts of the country to rule and with more spells any hunter, angel or demon will be powerless against us" said Rowena.
"Why haven't we done that yet?" asked another witch.
"Like I told you before, I wanted us to lay low not to draw attention and lure out my son, and I wanted to find the perfect spell that would make us immune to him and his minions and that angel sidekick and I think I found it. We need to take our time with this ladies" she said.
The witches just glanced about each other trying to think this over among themselves.
"Well, I'm always with you Rowena, you know that" replied Isadora.
"I know Izzy I can count on you" replied Rowena as she turned to her friend.
"You know Rowena, we want to talk about other conditions that we want" replied one of the witches.
"Like what Stella?" asked Rowena.
"I know we agreed that you be the leader of this new coven but we want more equal say in how things are run and all" said Stella.
"Well, Stella, I'm always willing to please my fellow witches" she replied slyly although a part of her was getting annoyed of Stella's demanding attitude.
She just wishes they can all just be subservient and let her run the show, but she knew she had to keep them happy in order to be the leader of this new coven she formed. Just then Madame Bess showed up and interrupted their little meeting.
"Madame, I have something to inform you" she replied to Rowena like an obedient servant this was due to the servitude spell Rowena had placed on Madame Bess after she defeated the Winchesters and sent them along with Gwen and Ava far away.
Madame Bess is now totally under Rowena's control, who she uses to information by seeing future visions. In fact, it was through Madame Bess, Rowena knew about Crowley and Castiel arriving in the city and she's proven to be quite useful for her. Rowena turned to her seeming impatient that she interrupted their witches meeting.
"Bessie can't this wait!" she replied a bit annoyed.
"No, this is quite an emergency Madame" said Madame Bess.
Rowena's expression went from annoyed to curious.
"If its an emergency, then spill it out by all means" replied Rowena.
"Just now I had another vision that affects all of you Madame" said Madame Bess.
"Well then tell me this vision!" said Rowena impatiently.
"I saw a woman who will arrive here tonight. This woman is a powerful being and she will use her powers to attack and try to kill you, Madame" said Madame Bess.
"Powerful, you mean a witch?" Rowena asked.
Madame Bess just nodded her head.
"It appears she is as powerful as you and she will be here with intentions to cause you harm and will be a dangerous force for you all" she told Rowena.
The other witches just looked at each other with fear and curiosity.
"Another witch is coming here tonight, I wonder who?" replied one of the witches.
"This is quite huge Rowena, do you think your son has something to do with this witch?" asked Isadora.
"Possibly" said Rowena who had a worried look on her face now.
She turned to Madame Bess again. "Bessie dear, describe to me what this woman looks like" she told her.
"She is older than you with short blonde wavy hair and wears a long white dress and appears from what I sensed has an unresolved grudge against you Madame" said Madame Bess.
Suddenly eyes lit up with nervousness as she got up from her chair.
"No, it can't be" she replied.
"It can't be what?" asked Isadora who also got up out of her chair.
"It's maybe not so impossible afterall if my son is involved" Rowena continued to say to herself.
"What isn't impossible, Rowena do you know this woman, who is she?" asked Isadora anxiously.
Rowena then looked up at Isadora with the same worried look on her face.
"I'm not sure but from what old Bessie here told me, it sounds like someone I went way back with in the grand coven, my dear friend Olivette" said Rowena.
The other women gasped and also got out of their seats and Isadora's eyes also lit up.
"Olivette, that can't be, you told me you turned her into a hamster and she was now in a cage in Hell" said Isadora.
"That's the last time I saw her, but from Bessie's description, she's the only possible person that I can think of plus she would have a beef with me after what I did to her and she is quite powerful herself and dangerous when she's crossed" said Rowena.
"But, how can this be, I mean your son Crowley is the King of Hell but does he do any witchcraft too?" said Isadora.
"He does know a few spells and rituals plus he could have found some powerful witch or possibly went to the grand coven to help him undo the spell and change Olivette back and if that's true she would now be helping my son to come after me" said Rowena.
The other witches continued to express their concerns looking worried about the arrival of this new threat.
"Don't worry Rowena, if Olivette does arrive her we will be prepared for her now that we know that she's coming her tonight" said Isadora reassuring.
"Yes, I mean it's just one of her and us" replied Stella.
Rowena worried expression changed to boldness.
"You're right, thank you for this information Bessie dear" she replied turning to Madame Bess who just stood there and nodded.
Then she turned back to the other women.
"After everything I've been through I won't be taken down by my old foe, if she does come here, we will be prepared to strike first" she told them.
They all cheered her own sharing in her confidence that they can beat the arrival of this new threat even though deep down Rowena was hiding the fact that she still felt worried even a bit scared for the first time.
