The story takes place right after the season 10 finale, after Dean killed Death, the Mark of Cain was removed and Darkness was released into the world. I mentioned before, new characters will be added and thrown in the story and I will bring back several former characters from the show in the upcoming future.
Chapter 103 And Now All Came Back
Plenty of time has passed since Castiel and Crowley forced a chained up Rowena who is now under their control due to a magical neck shackle around her neck, to bring Sam and Gwen back from where she sent them which was in one of Madame Bess's painting. After the shock and joy of their return from almost everybody around, Castiel managed to fill Sam and Gwen in on what has happened while they were away especially about the Darkness being locked away again explaining to them about Lucifer coming to them and willingly offered himself up to God to bear the Mark again and then how Lucifer being Lucifer tried to turn on the angels to remain on earth but God intervened just that time and sent Lucifer back to the cage himself and he's gone forever.
He also told him about all the angels returning to heaven except him as God allowed him to remain on earth to complete his mission which confused Sam as much as it did Castiel since neither them understood what Castiel's mission was suppose to be, but Castiel assumed he will figure out in time. Castiel also told him about God restoring his wings and now he's regained all of his powers. Sam was happy for his angel friend but he was mostly thrilled about Darkness being gone although he was kind of upset that he and Dean went through all that trouble of trying to find a spell to bring the Mark back to Dean for nothing. Both he and Gwen still had to deal with their shock of Rowena sending Dean and Ava to the Underworld as Crowley filled them in on more info about that world and what it is was and as they just processed the idea that such a mythical place actually exists and Dean and Ava are trapped there and not knowing if they were alright.
However, Sam just knew in his gut Dean has to be okay just like he was when he was when he Castiel were trapped in purgatory for a whole year a few years back. Madame Bess also filled Gwen in on what happened to her being under Rowena's spell as a servant as she offered her grandmother sympathy and relief that at least she was okay while Adam got more acquainted with Madame Bess and Gwen and sensing the vibe between Sam and Gwen and even tried to press it to Sam who didn't want to offer any information at least not now.
"I still can't believe the Darkness is actually gone" said Sam after both he and Gwen had stepped outside the house and looked up at the bright blue sky, seeing daylight again for the very first time since the Darkness was unleashed which felt like such a long time now longer than it really was.
They were now back inside the house in the living room taking it all in.
"Yes, this was only good thing Lucifer did in his entire life even if his motives were selfish, and now he's back where he belongs and is no longer a threat to the earth again" said Castiel.
"I guess it doesn't matter how it happened just as long Darkness is gone for good and so is Lucifer" said Sam as Castiel just nodded his head.
Sam was in thought for a moment then he looked up again focusing on their next step.
"Now all we need to do now is make Rowena bring Dean and Ava back" he said turning to Rowena again.
"Yes, mother dear, we got one Winchester back and another to go" replied Crowley in a smug tone.
Rowena just smirked again.
"Well, I know I don't have a choice, but I will have to perform a spell and in order to do that I will need the same ingredients as before" she replied.
"Fine, we'll get all the stuff you need but you just make the spell to get Dean and Ava out of the Underworld and you better succeed or I promise you I will end you once and for all" Sam said in stern tone.
Rowena seemed unphased by his threats and just grinned again.
"Didn't my son and his angel sidekick tell you luv, that killing me is impossible now" she said.
"What do you mean?" asked Sam confused.
"I mean I used a spell in that book that has made me immune to death, nothing not even witch-killing bullets can kill me" she said smugly.
"She's right, Sam, I'm afraid destroying Rowena is entirely impossible now" said Castiel.
"But you needn't worry, there Sammy, she is totally under my control and can't refuse me, she will do whatever I want her to" Crowley pointed out.
"Whatever you say my dear boy" Rowena remarked sarcastically.
Some more time passed again as Castiel teleported to the bunker to retrieve the sword again while Crowley teleported to the nearest ocean to collect sea water in a jar while Sam went outside to get the earth on the ground in Madame Bess's backyard and Madame Bess got a box of matches from the kitchen drawer. After the ingredients were collected, Crowley and Castiel took the sword and teleported together to Portland, Oregon to find the sewers were the dragons resided and slay one or two as much as necessary in order to collect a dragon's heart while the others now waited in basement now with a large pot to prepare for the spell and it seemed to be taking a quite a while.
"They should have been back by now, I hoped nothing has happened" Sam replied who was getting a bit impatient despite the fact it wasn't too long since they left.
"Don't worry, Sam I think Castiel and that Crowley can take care of themselves. Remember Dean and Ava got back safe and if they can I think an angel and a demon can" replied Gwen as she lightly placed a hand on his shoulder.
Sam just looked at her and felt more at ease now.
"She's right dear, no need to worry, although I have to say, I still have a hard time processing that angel from heaven and the King of Hell are off on a mission together like a team, who would have thought" replied Madame Bess.
"Well, I still have a hard time believing that dragons exist and not only that, but they are don't look like dragons you remember in the stories or movies but look like humans and can talk and all" said Adam remembering what Sam told him about the dragons earlier when he first heard about them.
"Yeah, one thing you learn is what you hear or read about on the lore is sometimes quite different in real life. I've learned that plenty of times, so get used to it" said Sam.
"I guess, still trying to process all of this" said Adam.
"So are all of us dear" said Madame Bess soothingly.
"Oh, boy you all are giving me a headache with all your moaning, I suppose we cheer ourselves up by playing a game of charades" said Rowena being snarky as she was now chained up again in the basement and was sitting in a chair.
"Quiet Rowena, the only thing that should be on your mind is making sure that spell works" Sam told her.
"You have my word deary" she replied unphased again by his warnings.
Just then Castiel and Crowley appeared in the room within seconds spooking almost everybody except Sam and Rowena who was used to that. Castiel was holding the sword while Crowley had a box in his hand.
"We're baaack" crooned Crowley looking so satisfied.
They all looked up at them as Adam spoke up first.
"You mean, you did it, you guys…" he said.
"That's right laddie, we slayed the dragon or dragons as we had to fight off a couple of others but we got the dragon's heart" Crowley interrupted.
"Well, so glad of your safe return my boy" said Rowena sarcastic as usual.
"That's so lovely mummy, thanks for caring" Crowley fired back with his sarcastic wit.
"I'm just glad you guys were able to get what you need to complete this spell" said Sam.
"Me too, Sam" said Castiel. He then turned to look at Rowena. "Okay, Rowena, we got everything time to begin" he told her.
Soon they placed what the ingredients in the pot as Rowena took a match from the match box and lit on of the small candles and placed that in the pot too as she started chanting words in Latin that nobody understood while everybody just watched in curiosity. Gwen then turned to Sam who just had an eager intense look in his eyes.
"Don't worry Sam, I'm sure this is gonna work just like it worked for us" she told him.
Sam turned to Gwen then. "I hope so, Gwen, I just wish so bad that you had one of your visions right now and see Dean and Ava coming back safe and sound" he said as Gwen just looked sympathetic as she placed a hand on his shoulder.
Madame Bess who overheard the conversation decided to interject herself into it. "I wish we both could see a vision of your brother and Ava coming back from the place of the dead but unfortunately for whatever reason we haven't gotten anything since being back to my place. I don't understand it myself but the thing with visions is that they are unpredictable, sometimes we can get a vision of something very big happening and sometimes we just don't, I mean who knows when the next time we get start getting visions maybe not until tomorrow" she replied.
"Hey, look guys it seems to be working" Adam cried out and they all looked what Rowena was doing.
Somewhere, in the underworld Dean and Ava were running through the eerie woods like they were being chased by something. Dean had a hold of Ava's arm as they both were running for their lives and not stopping to take a breath. Behind them was not one but two chimeras chasing them in full speed as Dean and Ava just kept running despite both feeling exhausted and their feet getting sore.
"Dean I can't run anymore!" cried out Ava as she was starting to slow down.
"Don't stop now Ava, we can make it, just keep moving!" called out Dean still holding on tightly to her arm as he refused to let her go vowing never to lose her again after what happened the last time.
But Ava couldn't do it her feet was getting too sore and she was out of breath and she slowed down more as Dean kept running faster that she took a little tumble unable to keep up. Dean stopped for a moment to drag her up but before they could start running again, it happened. Suddenly they felt a strong gust of wind hit them hard. Then while both looking up in at the sky they saw suddenly appearing out of the eerie sky, rays of blue glowing light flying through the air. They both realized how familiar the blue rays of light were remembering those same rays of light that appeared at Rowena performed that spell that transported them to this place and now it was appearing again and Dean had a feeling he knew what this means.
Both continued to stare stunned and neither realizing that the chimeras that were chasing them also stopped upon the sight of those blue rays looking up at the sky in curiosity and finally seemed frightened as they both ran off in the other direction forgetting all about their prey Dean and Ava. Ava looked frightened to and grabbed a hold of Dean in fear.
"Dean what the hell is that?" she cried out.
"I'm not sure but I have a feeling I know what it is" he told her.
"What!" Ava cried out again.
"Don't worry Ava, it's gonna be okay, that's the only thing I can tell you!" he cried out back to her.
The two faced each other for a few seconds and then back at the rays of blue lights as it started flowing down closer and closer towards them as Dean grabbed a hold of Ava and she gripped him tighter. Before any of them knew it, the blue rays surrounded them and completed covered them as they felt like they were in a middle of a twister. Within seconds, the blue rays disappeared into the sky.
The next thing Dean and Ava knew, they were rolling around on what appeared to be a floor. When both looked up, they saw that they were in a room. As they looked around, they realized where they were. Back in the basement of Madam Bess's house and sitting up they could see Sam, Castiel, Madame Bess and Gwen and it hit them that they were back finally out of the Underworld and back to their world right in Madame Bess's home. Before they could get their composure, Sam ran up to Dean.
"Dean, it worked, your back!" he cried out as ran to help Dean up and soon the two embraced with long brotherly hug. "I was worried we would never see you again but, but we got you back" he said so overjoyed of seeing his brother again.
"Yes, same here bro, you're a sight for sore eyes" said Dean as he let go of his brother and just stared at him as it felt like such a long time since they last saw each other.
"Gosh, I'm glad your back too" cried out Adam who ran up to hug his brother next and Dean quite surprised to see Adam here just hugged him back a little before letting him go.
"Adam, what the hell on you doing here?" he asked his youngest brother.
"I brought him here, Dean, he wanted to be here when we got you guys back and insisted so I agreed to bring him once we captured Rowena and make her bring you back from wherever she sent you all" said Castiel who was looking very happy of seeing his old friend again.
Dean just smiled back feeling joy of seeing his best friend.
"Castiel, good to see you again too" he said as he ran up and gave Castiel a hug who hugged him back.
"I just knew you wouldn't give up trying to find us and wouldn't stop until you found a way to get us back" Dean said after letting go of Castiel.
"Yes, you and Sam are like my family, I did whatever it took to find out what happened to you guys when I hadn't heard from you and when I got to this place and found it empty, I knew something bad happened" Castiel said.
"Well, I can't thank you more Cas" said Dean.
While Dean was greeting his brothers and Castiel, Ava had greeted Madame Bess and Gwen who each have her a little hug welcoming her back and expressing joy of seeing her again. Ava then briefly hugged Sam and after Dean greeted Castiel, Madame Bess ran up to him to get her turn.
"I'm so glad you're alright dear, I missed you quite a lot and worried something awful" she replied as she gave Dean a little hug.
"Glad, to see you too ma'am" said Dean while he hugged her.
"Once again this hug fest is getting a bit nauseating" said Crowley who just sat back and watched the whole scene.
Dean finally turned to Crowley noticing him for the first time.
"Crowley?" said Dean as he just glared at him.
"Here we go again" replied Crowley rolling his eyes. "Yes, it's me and none of you would have this little reunion if it wasn't for my help" he told him and before Dean could make a reply Castiel spoke up.
"It's true Dean, I asked for Crowley's help in locating Rowena and when we tracked her down, we brought her back here and made her perform the spell to bring all you guys back" he told Dean.
Crowley just smirked. "Would you like to give me a hug too there, old buddy" he said sarcastically as he spread his arms out preparing for a hug.
"Are you kidding man, where the hell have you been all this time, pardon the expression" Dean cried out a bit angry.
"Oh, I was just hiding out with this Darkness being out on earth causing chaos in its wake, and neither me and my minions wanted to be in the crossfire" he explained.
"We tried contacting you, we could have used your help on defeating this Darkness" Dean cried out angrily.
"But Darkness is gone thanks to my help and the help of my demons as well as our angel buddy here" replied Crowley.
"What?" asked Dean taken aback by what he just heard.
"It's true Dean, Darkness is gone and it turns out we didn't need to perform the spell afterall" said Sam.
"Oh my God, is this for real?" cried out Ava.
Castiel nodded his head. "Yes, it's true, Darkness is no longer on earth, part in thanks to Lucifer" said he said.
"Lucifer, you mean you found him!" cried out Dean even more shocked by this news.
"Well, actually he found us, Lucifer showed up at our base with Crowley and his demons to help us battle Darkness and all its evil and he volunteered himself to bear the Mark of Cain again to lock Darkness away again" explained Castiel.
Dean still was shocked up the news as was Ava since they quickly exchanged glances at each other and back to Castiel.
"So, it's really over, I mean really over, Darkness is gone?" asked Dean one more time.
"It's really gone Dean and daylight is back" Adam chimed in.
"Yes, my dear you can go outside and see for yourself as Sam and Gwen did" replied Madame Bess.
That is exactly what Dean and Ava did. They eventually raced upstairs from the basement and headed to the living room windows and looked outside and sure enough they saw that it was daylight in the sky.
"Oh, my God, Dean it's true, daylight is truly back and this Darkness is gone, it's all over!" cried out Ava excitedly.
"Son-a-bitch, it is!" cried out Dean who too was overcome with joy and excitement.
Then they both ran towards the front door and opened it and went outside just like Sam and Gwen did and looked around their surroundings and the clear blue sky and sun never so happy to see those things again.
"Oh God, it's so good seeing the sun again" cried out Ava.
"Yeah, and the best part is Darkness is gone for good and it's all over" cried out Dean and before either of them knew it, they embraced each other and as Dean spun Ava around one time and put her down and they continued to hold each other, their faces so close together they were nearly touching as they glared into each other's eyes.
The next thing, they kissed each other on the lips real hard like two lovers before Ava slightly pulled away.
"Okay, there I think we had enough of that, time to get back to reality" she said as she and Dean let go of each other.
Dean smile suddenly disappeared from his face as he was thinking about something.
"You know what, I just realized that if it's true Lucifer finally stepped up to take down Darkness and Rowena was just playing us the whole time, we went through all that we did with the dragons and the spell for nothing" he said now a bit ticked off.
"I wouldn't say all for nothing if you remember" Ava replied referring to their sexual tryst and Dean just smiled thinking the same thing.
"Yeah, that was the only good thing about all of this" he replied.
Later, they were both back in the basement and almost everybody except Rowena gave them the details of what happened while they were trapped in the Underworld. From learning about Sam and Gwen being trapped inside a painting in the living room, Castiel and Crowley searching for Rowena, Madame Bess being under Rowena's advanced servitude spell and her gaining a coven of witches. How Crowely and Castiel were able to take Rowena down with the help of the demons and the witch Olivette and giving them more details about the battle against the Darkness with the angels, the demons and Lucifer actually working together and God intervening and sending Lucifer back to hell and ordering the other angels except Castiel back in heaven and they didn't leave much out.
Dean and Ava gave their account of being trapped in the Underworld except for their sexual tryst. Ava was finally introduced to the Winchester's youngest brother Adam and she greeted him friendly. Everybody was still and awe and the other's adventures especially Adam.
"Wow, I don't know what is more shocking, you two being trapped in a painting" he said looking at Sam and Gwen. "Or you two in the Underworld, with Hades and all" he finished looking at Dean and Ava.
"Well, I think being in the Land of the Dead is more believable than being inside a drawing, I mean what was that like" asked Dean.
"Well, it wasn't too bad except, everything around us looked just like the painting except none of it was real, none not even the water" said Gwen.
"Yeah, it was all like an illusion" Sam finished.
"Well, after everything we been through, I think I would rather be trapped inside a painting than a place with dangerous creatures and dead souls" said Ava.
"I hate to be a party pooper, but we need to take care business now with my dear mummy here" replied Crowley glancing at Rowena still chained up sitting on the chair feeling a bit worried about her fate now.
Dean walked over to Rowena looking quite ticked off and thinking how he would like to wring her neck right now after everything he put them all through.
"I say we take care of her right now once and for all" he said angrily glaring at her.
"I'm afraid that would be impossible as the others haven't told you yet, I'm immune to death, you can't kill me" she said.
"The hell I can't" said Dean still angry.
"Yes, it's true, you see I did a ritual from the Book of Damned that makes me immune to any death, from witching killing bullets, even burning me at the stake like the did in the good old days, I'm just invincible now, nothing will ever kill me" she said.
"I'm afraid she's right Dean, from what she told us" said Castiel.
"Dean turned to Castiel. "Have you got any proof of this" he asked him.
"No, but from what she told us, she can't be killed nor tortured as she's immune to pain as well from using that book" Castiel said.
"But you're only going by what she told you, maybe she's bluffing to save her own hide just like she bluffed before" said Dean.
"Well, if you want me to prove it, you can try to kill me with your witch-killing bullets, I have all day, but it won't do you any good nor will any torture luv" she told him smugly.
Dean just looked frustrated with this latest news as did Sam for he really wanted to give Rowena exactly what she deserved.
"Even if that is true, we can still make her pay, can we?" he asked.
"I certainly have every intention of making her pay" said Crowley sternly looking at his mother.
"But you all agreed if I helped you bring back your mates here, you will let me go, you said you would" cried out Rowena nervously.
"Well, you know mummy, we lied, there is no bloody way in hell I'm letting you walk after everything including trying to kill your own son, time to pay mummy, you are coming with me. I have plans for you. I might lock you up in my dungeon for all eternity, or maybe I'll summon Olivette again have her turn you into a hamster this time and put you in a cage and keep you as my pet forever" he said with a satisfying look on his face.
Rowena still looked nervous about her fate but then suddenly she starting smirking again showing now fear.
"Well, you know, I already figured you boys would double-cross me so I had a back-up plan just in case that could change everything" she said smugly.
"And what pray tell is that?" asked Crowley.
"It doesn't affect you dear son, but it does affect Dean and Sam here" she said turning to them with the same smug look in her face.
"What are you talking about now Rowena?" asked Dean.
"I'm talking about leverage boys, I have leverage" she told them.
"What leverage?" asked Sam curiously.
"I have something that is very dear to you, far more dear than seeking vengeance on me" she said.
However, Dean was feeling skeptical this could be another trick.
"I don't buy it, if you had real leverage you would have used it against us the moment we caught you" he told her.
"Not so, you see I only planned to use this leverage as last resort if one day you two found me and only if I was really backed into a corner and was running out of other options and it seems to be the case right now and like I said this thing I have is very precious to you guys. Something you two would really want back more than punishing me for my sins" she told them.
Dean was starting to get bit worried but was still skeptical.
"Just spit it out Rowena what the hell are you going on about" he cried out impatiently.
Rowena was unphased by his demeanor and was quite calm.
"You two would want to take a look into my purse and pull out an envelope dearies, I promise you fellas it will make your eyes go pop after you see what I have" she told them with that same "I know something you don't know" look on her face.
Dean was a bit hesitant about all of this as he still felt a bit skeptical.
"You know what Dean, it doesn't hurt to go along with this, I mean she's not going anywhere" said Sam.
"Forget it mates, mummy is going with me" cried out Crowley.
"Not so fast, Crowley let's just take a look at what she has and get this over with" said Dean who still was getting more curious to what this leverage could be as he had a funny feeling that this could be huge.
"Castiel where's her purse" Dean said turning to Castiel.
"I left it upstairs, Rowena insisted we let her take it with us when we captured her at the mansion saying it contains some things that could be of importance involving you guys, but I didn't know what she meant so I just went along with it just in case" he said.
"Perfect can you fetch it real quick?" asked Dean.
Castiel nodded. "Very well" said Casitel who then vanished within seconds and reappeared within seconds as it went by so fast now holding a large handbag.
He handed the handbag to Dean who then zipped it opened and stuck his hand inside until he felt an envelope that look it had some papers inside. Dean then set the bag down on the counter and opened the enveloped and pulled out some photos. When he looked at the photos carefully, he suddenly had a shocking look on his face.
"Son-of-a bitch, this can't be, no freaking way!" he cried out.
"Dean what is it?" asked Sam wondering what was in those photos that shocked him so much.
"Sam, you are not going to believe this in a million years!" Dean cried out.
Just then Sam went over to Dean and looked at the photos that he was holding, and he too had a very surprised look on his face, nothing could have shocked in more than what he saw in those photos.
"Oh my God!" Sam cried out.
"What, what is it guys?" asked Adam feeling a bit nervous himself feeling this was something huge.
"Yeah, Dean what is it?" asked Ava who had the same feeling.
As both Dean and Sam kept looking at one particular photo, they saw that that in the picture was none other than their dear departed friend Charlie inside what looked like a room who was very much alive smiling in the photo!
