It was time for Amity to sleep now and after seeing Luz's dream, she knew her mind would want to betray her. She convinced Luz to watch the Azura movie, claiming she wasn't sleepy yet to try and get her off her mind. If she could just blank out all those thoughts, maybe watch enough Azura, she'd have a random dream with no meaning. When Luz turned off the lights, Amity made sure she had her own blanket and was out of the way so they wouldn't accidentally bump into each other. Luz offered some popcorn as they watched the movie but Amity declined and scooted even farther away from her human crush. During a heart wrenching moment of the movie, Amity used it as an excuse to let the tears she couldn't control finally spill out. Luz didn't seem to notice, a few tears rolling down her eyes too.

"You ready for dream-zone now, Amity?" Luz asked in her usual cheery voice. She had her notepad and pencil already at hand.

"Um, I'm actually still feeling kind of awake, but I think if I lay down I can fall asleep. Do you mind doing the spell on me instead? Just, after you think I'm already asleep, can you do the spell?" Amity was planning on trying to manipulate her dream before Luz could see what was happening. If she managed to have a few seconds, maybe even a minute, to come up with a dream as she slept then nothing would have to be revealed. Luz agreed and sat down on the floor next to her bed. Amity laid down and stared at the ceiling for a few minutes before falling asleep, hoping Luz would take a long time to notice.

In her dream, Amity was back at home wearing her school uniform. There were clothes thrown everywhere and her diary was open. Edric and Emira were in her room too, blocking the door, seemingly trying to keep someone out.

"OPEN THE DOOR! WE NEED AN EXPLANATION" The familiar voice of her father could be heard clearly through the wooden door. Edric and Emira looked helpless and concerned as they tried to push harder but Amity stopped them. Her parents could come in.

"Hey mom. Hey dad." Amity said without looking at them, grabbing some of the clothes and beginning to fold them.

"Amity, can you tell us who Luz Noceda is? And don't lie, we know you went to her house instead of Skara's!"

"She's nobody mom. Just a girl from school who I had an assignment with. It doesn't matter, we already did the homework." Amity continued to put away clothes, careful not to let her parents see the sadness in her eyes.

"Well it better be over. We heard from Boscha's parents that you played Grudgby with that human against your own friends. What will people say? Do we need to get rid of her for you or do you know what y-"

"I KNOW. I know. But you know what? I'm not six anymore either! I think I can decide who I want to be friends with. You were wrong about Willow! She's one of the strongest witches I know and I should have never stopped being her friend. Sure, Luz is a human but I believe in her! Even if she makes dumb choices she still tries her best. She may not be able to do magic naturally but you can't deny how impressive it is for her to still attend school with the rest of us. She's amazing, I-"

"BOOP" Luz's voice rang through the entire Blight house. Amity looked around in confusion and realized Luz must have casted the spell on her. Everything now was being broadcasted to the room.

"So, should we just have dinner now?" Amity asked trying to change the conversation. Her parents narrowed their eyes and walked out. Emira and Edric rushed to their sister but she waved them off. While she appreciated their support, she just wanted to be alone for a bit.

Amity heard someone knocking downstairs but couldn't be bothered to answer it. She could hear her parents answer the door and quickly slam it shut, locking it before storming away. Amity stopped folding her clothes and grabbed her journal, now noticing a few pages missing. The drawings of Azura were still there along with a few she had drawn of Luz cosplaying. Guess her parents thought it was just another character. As she stared at her writing full of hope and corny thoughts of Luz, tears made their way back to her eyes and threaten to flood the pages. She closed the journal and held it close to her chest before tossing it out the window. If she wanted to stay close to Luz, she had to forget about her true feelings.

A few minutes after sulking around in her room, Amity heard the sound of tiny pebbles bouncing off her window. She dragged herself to look outside, expecting Edric or Emira to be doing something to cheer her up but instead found Luz. She was wearing the star t-shirt and pajama bottoms she had been wearing when they were both awake. Amity saw Luz was holding the diary and tried to make her disappear but only managed to get rid of the journal. Her mind was too powerful, it wanted Luz to stay.

"Amity! Amity, are you there?" Luz tried to whisper as she shouted. Seeing as she was not leaving, Amity decided to go against her better judgement and climbed out the window.

"Hey Luz! What's up?" she tried to play it off casual. Friends. They could still be friends.

"Are you alright? Your parents seemed a bit mad." Luz asked, her expression similar to the one she had had in class the day before. The hint of sadness peeking through her easy going façade.

"Yeah, everything is fine. Did you uh, want to go to the owl house? Or go down to the library? Emira and Ed are being kind of annoying and now would be the best time to sneak out without them noticing." Amity lied and began walking away from her house. Luz stood in place, looking at the Blight household and then back at Amity. Her concern was more noticeable now but it soon changed into anger. Maybe frustration. She began walking towards Amity, each stride more determined than the one before it. When Amity finally turned around to see if Luz was following, her nose almost touched hers. Amity's face flushed red as she backed away. Friends. She was just a friend.

"Amity, I think we need to talk. I want to tell you about my dream." Luz began, her eyes focused on Amity's. Panic rushed through Amity's entire system. If dream Luz talked about her dream, then real Luz would know that she had heard everything!

"I think that's okay Luz. You really don't have to do that, I'm sure I can write a full report on it before we get to class." She turned away from Luz but soon felt a warm hand grab her shoulder. Luz looked worried but her eyes were still soft, making Amity's heart sink to the bottom of her stomach. Friends. She just had to keep telling herself that.

"Amity. Did you… want to ask me out to Grom?" Luz's voice was lower than her usual range. Amity looked at the floor, her face now the color of the dress Eda often wore. Luz was seeing all of this in the real world, what was she going to say?

"What? No, of course not. We're just friends. I – I was just thinking about asking Boscha but didn't know how to ask her. Anyways, things are weird between us now so it's probably for the best that I didn't go through with it." Amity's fist tightened, the urge to tell Luz everything was too powerful.

"Oh."

Amity looked up, catching the disappointment in Luz's voice. Luz was looking at the ground, avoiding Amity's gaze. The two girls looked at each other's shoes for what seemed like an eternity before Luz spoke again.

"Do your parents know?" she asked, her voice quiet. Amity couldn't comprehend what her dream was trying to tell her. Luz was acting out of character, was she trying to make the friend version of Luz?

"Know what?"

"About you liking Boscha."

"Like I said, it doesn't matter since we're not even really friends anymore. I'm sure my parents would be thrilled to have me date Boscha, they never seem to shut up about her and her family." Amity rolled her eyes, thinking about how her parents would react if she actually liked the pink-haired witch. They might just choose her as a suitable match at this point.

"Did they ever, think it was weird?" Luz asked, her eyes still not looking at Amity. Her voice was still close to that of a whisper. Amity got closer to her, she could sense something was wrong with Luz. This time, it seemed to be Luz who wanted space from Amity.

"Why do you ask?"

Luz didn't respond but Amity could see drops staining the ground in front of Luz. In a panic, Amity grabbed Luz's hands and faced her. Tears were cascading down Luz's cheeks, her hazel eyes now blurry. "Luz?"

The human girl wasn't able to look at Amity for more than five seconds before turning away. The fears she had been dealing with for her whole life were too much to bare. Her whole family always told her to be normal, to be someone she knew was not. All this time, she had been able to hold back, even if it was that one aspect about her, but how could she pretend after knowing someone like Amity? She wanted to be like her, so strong and true to herself. She was different, she was bold, she was everything she wanted to be.

"Amity, I – I can't do this. H-How do you- How can I… Why is this so difficult? I wish I could be more like you. I hate – I hate living like this! I – I – I love you!" Luz covered her mouth as soon as she let those dreaded three words out. "I'm sorry! I know you probably still have lingering feelings for Boscha and I'm not even a witch so your family doesn't approve but-"

Amity grabbed Luz's face before she could say anything else and kissed her quivering lips. She didn't care if this was a dream and for a second, she wasn't worried about what Luz would say when she woke up. She just knew she wanted to hold Luz.

"Amity" Luz's voice was startled and slightly out of breath. The kiss had taken her by surprise and the crying hadn't help her breathing much.

"Luz, what I said about Boscha… I lied. I don't like her as anything more than a friend. It wasn't her that I wanted to invite to Grom. The person I actually like-" Amity gave a deep sigh, deciding the truth was something she wanted Luz to know, "the person I was going to invite to Grom is you, Luz. I – I love you." Amity gently touched Luz's cheek with her thumb before leaning in for another kiss. It felt so real, it wasn't like her previous dream. When she pulled away, she felt Luz's warm hand touch the back of her neck pull her closer for a third kiss. The two young witches stood there for a long time, each seemingly entranced by the other. The next time Amity opened her eyes, she wasn't standing outside her home anymore. Instead, she was back at the owl house, holding Luz – real Luz! – in her room.

"Ah! Luz! I'm sorry, hahah, I think, I think I wasn't feeling too good. That must have been some kind of fever dream! Wow. Sleepovers, huh? Sorry if dream you was acting out of character, like I said-"

"That was me." Luz said, her voice was firm and straight forward.

Amity scratched her head unable to come up with a better lie. Getting out of this one was going to be difficult. How could she convince Luz's mom that they were just friends when she couldn't even convince herself?

"Amity! That was me. I entered your dream by accident. I guess since I did the spell it let me in or something, I'm not sure how but, but that was me, okay? Everything I said? That was me. Was that… was that really you too?" the firmness in her voice was replaces by something close to desperation and fear. Luz had just openly told someone her biggest secret and even kissed her crush.

"Wait, you mean… you mean everything in my dream about you was…real?" Amity's eyes seemed to pop out of their sockets and the blush was a deeper shade of red than any she had had before. Luz simply nodded her head as she hugged herself, fear and insecurities beginning to consume her. Amity couldn't hide away her smile until she noticed Luz staring at the floor.

"Luz, that was me too. Everything I said – its real. I love you." The space between Amity and Luz was almost nonexistent now. Luz finally looked up as she heard Amity say this and a wave of relief settled within her. She didn't have to be afraid of her feelings. Even if a relationship with Amity represented something her family did not consider 'normal' this was normal to her. This was something she was willing to fight for. When Amity put her hand on Luz's cheek again, Luz closed her eyes and held Amity as close as she could while their lips interlocked.

Luz had just removed Amity's hair tie when she heard a cough coming from a corner in the room.

"Are you done with your assignment, kid? I think you've done plenty of observations." Eda teased from the shadows. Amity and Luz quickly let go of each other, both sporting a red blush and a smile.

"How long have you been here?" Amity asked, her voice unable to conceal her embarrassment.

"We just came in to prank yall and walked in on this! Great. Now I owe Hooty $10!" King shouted from a few feet below Eda.

"About time! Told you she dressed up for a reason, pay up!" Amity's blush deepened as the house demon entered through an open window. As she was ready to attack the annoying bird tube just like before, Luz held her hand and stopped her. Even if everyone was in the room now, she just wanted to enjoy the night with Amity. Lacing their fingers together, Luz smiled at Amity as the green witch looked back and blushed soon forgetting what she intended to do to a certain demon bird. Amity figured she could let this slide, for Luz of course.
