MIRROR OF SOULS

CHAPTER 40

ZYRIANNA

Part II

In the mirror:

"Release me from this place!" He snarled his demand as his eyes sharpened and elongated…"I will not ask again." His jaw clenched at the scene transpiring from the bigger mirror. Out of habit his hand reached for his sword but he found air where Bakusaiga should have been. He snarled his frustration.

"Yes, I can see that." The woman glanced at the youkai lord, not even intimidated at the threats. "Are you willing to do anything to help her, my lord?"

Like a hunter who has taken a whiff of prey Sesshoumaru's attention was immediately caught. "How?"

"There are ways." She spoke coyly, playfully.

"Woman, you are trying my patience. The miko is in peril at this very moment!" His angry voice reverberates in the void. Sesshoumaru feels impotent and he hated it. A cage that he could demolish in seconds is preferable than this nothingness. This helplessness is fueling his anger.

"She is safe. If you had stopped your threats for a moment then I would have told you that she is safe. She was never in danger." She heaved a big sigh at the intense glare he gave her. "How could you think I'd let Kagome be pawed by that asshole? I couldn't!" Zyrianna stopped to control herself, breathing deeply to ease the pressure forming in her chest and throat, hot tears threatening to overflow. "I will not let him use and abuse people anymore!"

The woman's beautiful face twisted in rage as she looked back at the quiet inu lord. "I loved him but he betrayed me. Then he ruined my land and abused my poor people." The pale woman turned away from him overcome by emotion and Sesshoumaru understood her fury. "He hunted and killed them. He sold them and used the women for his pleasure. If they fought him he killed them. He tortured and killed them if they displeased him in any way. Men and women. I saw it all and heard it all and I couldn't do anything to stop him! I couldn't help them! I couldn't!" Zyrianna wailed and sobbed the despair she had kept for hundreds of years.

Sesshoumaru clenched his fists as he allowed the woman to pour out her grief for herself and her people.

"Let us help each other, lady Zyrianna. Upon my honor as Prime Cardinal I will avenge your death and people." Eyes on fire he solemnly nodded to her as she gathered herself and wiped her tears away.

Zyrianna took deep calming breaths, "Yes. I think that the time has come to kick Rylanion's ass, don't you agree?" she asked with hands on her hips now very much in control of her emotions. Sesshoumaru nodded in approval about trouncing Rylanion and the inner strength of the woman.

He was a little surprised when the pale woman walked out of the portal, slightly sashaying to be exact, flirting. "Your effort is lost on this Sesshoumaru." He deadpanned.

"Ugh!" Zyrianna threw her hands up in frustration. "Whatever! Just let a girl have her fun, okay?"

"But you are not a…" he stopped at the soft snarl, amused that for a moment her words sounded like Kagome.

She just shrugged at his expression. "Like I said I'm already dead so there's nothing you can do to me. But you…nope." she leveled a bejeweled finger at him. "So. I can let you out of this dimension and send you back into your body but…" the woman stopped and looked at him seriously, the same finger pointed for emphasis. "without Rylanion's khrustal'naya palochka…"

"I have seen him wield that cursed crystal wand." He snarled.

Zyrianna was impressed at the Lord of the West's perfect Russian. "Tsk! That wand was not intended for that infernal use but without it you and everyone here would perish after Rylanion has absorbed everyone's zhiznennaya sila."

"People's life force is what he consumes?"

"Yes." the woman nodded; her face dark with emotion. "And then he turns them into ornaments." In a voice so soft only a youkai could hear.

"Ornaments?"

"Da." The pale woman had that faraway look in her eyes. They look desolate and tortured.

"Have you been turned the same way?'

The woman shrugged, "No, Kagami took my body in here for protection."

"Hn, that was why he was looking for you." A nod. Then…, "Tell this one what needs to be done to return this one's soul into this one's body." He stopped, puzzled. "Is there a cause for amusement?"

Zyrianna chuckled. "Tsk! No wonder the miko kept rolling her eyes." She giggled even more when his right brow rose. "Never mind. You'll figure it out." She sighed. "Maybe." She shrugged her doubt. Zyrianna took a few steps then beckoned him closer. "Would you please?"

When they were standing side by side she slowly brought her hands together as if praying and opened it palms front towards the void. As her hands separated a pillar of light rose from the 'floor.' "Shall we?" At his nod Zyrianna turned her palms toward them and the pillar engulfed them in light.

Western Shiro:

'Intruder!" Jiro shouted. "Aah!" The kitsune commander covered his sensitive ears at the high pitched whine coming from the object.

"What in gods…!" The northern lord hissed, claws extended at the orb floating above their heads.

Everyone in the room scrambled up and in their haste the remainder of their repast upturned and scattered on the tatami. Each person took a defensive pose at the glowing object pulling out their weapons.

"What is that?" Kohaku gasped as he lifted a hand to his eyes, the chains of his sickle jingled in his hands.

In fear for whatever violence or danger might transpire Mizuta the river otter grabbed for his son Kanta and almost shoved the boy behind a huge urn "Stay there, Kanta!" the little otter nodded and made himself small in the corner. He ducked his head down for he was almost blinded by the brilliance in the center of the room. Mizuta growled in pain and fear and then he realized how useless his wooden club is if push comes to shove.

As the orb descended slowly it changed its shape; it became wider. "Do we attack it?" Sango looked at her husband. "Kirara, stay with me!" Sango stopped the neko youkai from leaping at the glowing object.

"Wait! I see something!" Miroku squinted through the light. "There are people in it!"

"Yes! I see it too! There are two of them!" Sango affirmed from behind Hiraikotsu.

"I can't see anything!" Jiro yelled, his eyes almost shut from the glare of the light.

The ability that majority of youkai have is their excellent eyesight; they could see even through the dimmest of light but this ability is now their disadvantage as the intense light painfully pierces from behind their eyelids and deep inside the optic nerves as if someone with claws were digging their eyes out. But the humans do not seem to be too bothered by it.

"Don't look directly at the light!" Miroku yelled through the noise.

Jiro and the other youkai cover their eyes from the painful light. The lack of visibility automatically makes them feel vulnerable and helpless. And when they are in this state they get angry.

"What the blazes is that thing?!" spat the northern lord.

"None other but I, Takuma."
