Big Mama led Dinky and Boomer to the farm fence where she told the baby fox to stay until they landed on a top of the fence.

As they looked down at the baby fox who just woke up from a short sleep before he looked up the owl and birds with a sad face, Dinky and Boomer started to realize that the baby fox was all alone without his mother beside him and shook their heads sadly feeling so sorry for him.

"Oh, poor little guy", Boomer said in grief.

"Don't you worry now", Big Mama assured the baby fox. "We're going to find someone who will look after you."

Dinky started to think of something.

He looked at the house by the barn house where a couple of humans live: A widow and her young granddaughter.

"Hmmm," Dinky hummed to himself as he looked between the baby fox and the house and his idea started to come together. "Hmmm."

Then Dinky's idea hit him!

"Hey! I think I got an idea", he said to Big Mama and Boomer.

The three gathered around started to whisper to each other and coming up with a plan to get the humans' attention.

The three looked back down at the baby fox who watched them with curiosity.

Now the plan was settled.

Boomer giggled excitedly.

"Okay, Boomer. Now, you know what to do," Dinky said to Boomer who was ready.

"Yeah! Leave it to me! Leave it to me!", Boomer said and then he flew toward the house.

After he landed on a door handle, he knocked on a door with his beak.

"Who is it?", called a elder woman's voice.

"I'll get it, Grandma", said a young voice.

Without warning, the door swung open and it smashed Boomer by the wall only with his beak stabbed through the door.

It was a preteen girl at age 11 who opened the door.

She was wearing a light sky blue dress with an apron and a pair of brown slippers.

She was slender and had fair skin, her ponytail hair color was ginger and her eyes were pure blue.

She was a beautiful girl named Lily.

She looked left and right and wondered who knocked the door but she didn't find anyone.

"Hello?", Lily called but she saw no one and scratch her head. "Huh. That's funny. Grandma! There's no one here."

Her grandmother named Widow Tweed came to the door next to her and looked around too.

"Um...Well, I'm sure we heard someone knocking", she said before she and Lily saw Big Mama and Dinky carried one of Widow Tweed's undergarments from their laundry lines.

"Oh, dear!", gasped the widow.

"That's our laundry!", Lily called the birds as they started fly to the baby fox hoping that the humans will follow them and they did.

Lily ran down the stairs of the front door and race toward Big Mama and Dinky to get her grandmother's undergarment back with Widow Tweed ran behind her granddaughter to help her.

"Oh, Here!", Widow yelled at the birds. "Stop it!"

"Cone back!", Lily called the birds.

Boomer pulled his beak off the door and shook his head.

The widow and her granddaughter ran after the birds toward the fence.

"Oh, you pesky birds!", Widow Tweed called to the birds.

"Will you come come back here with that?!", Lily pleaded as she tried to reach for her grandmother's undergarment. "Please, stop!"

Big Mama and Dinky dropped Widow Tweed's undergarment and it landed over the baby fox. Lily reached for the undergarments where the Big Mama and Dinky dropped it.

"Well, I wonder what had got into those birds", Widow Tweed said as she started to slow down and walk toward Lily.

"I don't know," she shrugged as she reached Widow Tweed's undergarment.

When she lifted the undergarment, she saw a baby fox on a ground looking up at her with big eyes.

Lily gasped as she dropped the undergarments on the baby fox before she slowly lifted it off of him astounded with a warm smile.

She looked up at Big Mama, Dinky and Boomer who were on the oak tree and nodded at her.

She finally realized why they gave them attention.

She turned to her grandmother and called to her.

"Grandma! Look what the birds had led us to."

When Widow Tweed caught up with Lily, she saw the baby fox and had a same reaction as her granddaughter's.

"Well...bless our souls", the widow smiled as she placed her hand on her chest "Why, its...its a baby fox."

Lily knelt down on a ground and moved her free hand toward the baby fox gently but he started to move back further in her grandmother's undergarment skittishly.

Lily looked backed up at Big Mama, Dinky and Boomer with an expression as if she's asking them 'What has happened to his mother?' while her grandmother focused on the baby fox.

Big Mama, Dinky and Boomer turned their heads toward the field and Lily followed their direction and looked backed down at the baby fox with sad eyes.

She figured out the answer.

"Oh, hello, little fella", Widow Tweed greeted the baby fox gently before she started to look around. "I wonder where it's mother is..."

Lily looked up at her grandmother.

"Grandma, I think his mother dropped him off by the fence before she got killed by a hunter and his hound", she explained with sorrowful that shown in her beautiful blue eyes. "I think she was trying to protect him from them."

Widow Tweed looked down at her only granddaughter and looked back down at the little one with a sad face feeling sorry for him.

She believed her grandchild and knew she had a special gift of understanding animals' situations.

Lily reached her free hand toward the baby fox once again and tried to pet him but the little one backed away from her hand again with a frown on his face.

"Its okay", Lily said to him with a soft voice. "I'm not going to hurt you."

The baby fox swiped his little paw at Lily's fair hand but missed it before he tripped and fell on a ground.

He got up and tried to flee but Lily grabbed him by his little waist with two hands and picked him up slowly as he tried to escape her grasp.

"Oh, my, my! You're a feisty little rascal, aren't you", Widow Tweed asked softly to the baby fox as she watched her granddaughter untied her apron and wrapped it around the baby fox and held him on her chest.

"Its alright...just calm down..." Lily said to the little one tenderly. "There's nothing to be afraid of now..."

Slowly, the baby fox stopped struggling in her arms and realized that she was not hurting him.

He looked up at Lily and saw her smiling down at him tenderly before he started to calm down and laid his small head onto her chest before yawned and fell asleep feeling safe in her warm arms.

Both Lily and Widow Tweed watch him fell asleep while smiling.

Lily looked at her grandmother and said "What could we do, Grandma? He's all alone and there has to be a way to help him."

Widow Tweed started to think for a minute and smiled at Lily.

"You know? We can't just leave him out here all alone", she side to her granddaughter.

Lily smiled happily and knew exactly what her grandmother meant and hugged her with one while the other one held the sleeping baby fox on her chest before her grandmother hugged her back lovingly before they both started to walk back to their house with the little one.

Lily looked back at Big Mama, Dinky and Boomer and smiled at them as if she saying to them 'Don't worry. We'll take care of him.'

The three birds started to cheer silently as their plans succeeded.

...

Half an our later, Widow Tweed sat on a rocking chair and started feeding the baby fox a bottle of a cow's warm milk with Lily knelt beside her grandmother's knee stroking his little head lovingly.

"Not so fast...Now, now, not so fast", the widow said softly to the baby fox as he was eating fast before he started to eating milk slowly. "Oh, my. You're such a little toddler."

Inspired by the word 'toddler', Lily thought of a perfect name for the baby fox.

She watched the him yawned and continued eating milk from a bottle while continuing stroking his head.

"That's it", Lily said to the little one softly. "That's what we're going to call you; Tod."

"Tod", Widow Tweed repeated loving the name that Lily gave him. "That's a perfect name. You know Tod? My grandchild and I aren't going to be so lonesome anymore."

"Grandma?", Lily said as she raised her arms gently toward Tod. "Could I feed him too, please?"

Widow Tweed smiled down at her granddaughter and was proud of her being patient like a grown woman.

"Of course, Lily", she said to her before she handed her Tod and a bottle of cow's milk.
Lily cradled Tod into her arms to make sure he's comfortable before she started feeding Tod some more warm milk on a floor.
When Tod continued eating more milk, he nuzzled his head on her chest happily.
Lily smiled down at her adopted fox.
"Not matter what happens, I'll always protect you, Tod", she promised to him.
From outside the window, Big Mama, Dinky and Boomer watched the young human taking care of Tod and were so happy that the little one is save and has a new family.

Yeah! Tod had been adopted!❤️
