A/N: Here is the first chapter where you kind of get a look into the first animagus transformation. After this chapter the rest of the story will take place during their sixth year of Hogwarts. I'm hoping to get the next chapter out within a good amount of time so that there's not too much of a delay! Enjoy!

Shining Doe Eyes
A Promise
James Potter stared out the window of the boy's bedroom in Gryffindor tower. The glow from the full moon illuminating his face showing the concerned frown that graced his handsome features.
"James it's time to go."
James turned around to face his best friend Sirius Black who was standing next to their other best friend Peter Pettigrew. In one hand Sirius was holding James's invisibility cloak and the Marauder's Map in the other. James sighed and nodded at Sirius's statement.
"I wish we had left earlier. The full moon is already high in the sky." James stated while rubbing his eyes underneath his glasses. Sirius shook his head. "You know what Remus said. He didn't want us to be present for the actual transformation, he just wanted us to get there afterwards." Sirius mirrored James's concerned look. Remus Lupin was the groups other best friend. The four boys made up a group called the Marauders.
James tiredly sighed, "I know. But we're going to have to be extra careful when we get in there. Peter will already be transformed but you and I are going to have to make sure we transform as soon as we get into the Shack." Sirius nodded, "of course." With that said the three Marauder's clambered under the Invisibility Cloak and made their way out of the common room.
Sirius held the Marauder's Map while James led the way out of the castle and towards the grounds. "OW! Peter watch where you're stepping." Sirius exclaimed while glaring at Peter. Peter looked at him sheepishly, "sorry Sirius, it's pretty cramped under here." Sirius growled at him.
"Will the two of you be quiet. We can't risk anybody catching us." James snapped at the two of them. Sirius grumbled out an apology while Peter continued to look guilty. They came to stop at the corner right before the stairs that led to the door that went out onto the grounds. "Are there any professors coming this way Sirius?" James asked Sirius who was looking down at the map.
"Looks like Filch is up on the fourth floor and Slughorn is down in the Dungeons." Sirius folded up the map and put it away. "Now is a good a time as any for us to make our way out." James nodded and with that they continued on onto the grounds.
As soon as they were far enough away from the castle, they ripped the invisibility cloak off of them, hiding it behind a large stone pillar, and started to make their way towards the Whomping Willow. "Alright Peter, you know what to do." James said while looking at him expectantly. Immediately Peter started to change. First his ears started to look smaller and more round, then his hands started to shrink and look more paw like. Soon his whole body started to shrink down until there was a common looking brown rat in his place. With the transformation complete Peter headed towards the trunk of the Whomping Willow so that he could press the knot at the bottom of the trunk. Immediately the Whomping Willow froze with James and Sirius following after Peter and making their way down the secret tunnel that is usually guarded by flying limbs of the Willow.
With Peter still in his animagus form James and Sirius followed behind him through the tunnel until they came upon a small opening that led into a very disordered room. Dust was all over the room with the floor littered with pieces of broken furniture. The walls did not look much better; paper was peeling from the walls and windows were boarded up. The Marauder's found themselves in the middle of the Shrieking Shack, rumored to be haunted by evil spirits.
James turned towards Sirius, "We need to transform before we head upstairs. Remus is most definitely already in his werewolf form and we need to be prepared." With those words both James and Sirius started to transform into their own animagus forms.
Sirius first started to grow black hair all over his body and face while the rest of his body started to move closer to the floor. In the blink of an eye a big black dog, similar looking to a grim, stood in the same spot where Sirius just was. Once Sirius completed his transformation James started to change his own appearance. First, antlers started to grow from the top of his head and hooves started to form on his hands and feet. James's body started to shift until he was standing on all fours with a majestic looking stag standing in his place. Two circles were around his eyes as though marking where his glasses would be in his human form.
The group of animals made their way upstairs towards the open door of a bedroom where they could hear growling and whimpering. Once through the door they came across a werewolf in the middle of the room. The werewolf was in actuality their other friend Remus Lupin. When he was a small child Remus was unfortunately bitten by a ferocious werewolf by the name of Fenrir Greyback. Now Remus is cursed to change into a werewolf during each full moon.
Remus's ears twitched when he heard the creaking of the floorboards as the three animals entered the room. He immediately growled at the group and lunged for the closest one to him, which happened to be Sirius. Sirius immediately jumped into action and met Remus tackle head on while trying to avoid the sharp claws and teeth. Peter started running around the room squeaking in panic while James made his way over to the wrestling canines and used his antlers in order to subdue Remus off of Sirius. When Remus turned to try and attack James, Sirius growled and latched his teeth onto the back of Remus' neck in order to tell him that he needed to submit.
Remus whimpered at the feeling and immediately rolled over to show his belly, letting them know that he was done fighting. James snorted as though he were sighing in relief. He thought about how it was a good thing that Remus wasn't really a dominate type when it came to his werewolf form. Once Sirius noticed that Remus had calmed down his tail started wagging and he barked happily while pouncing around the room. Peter also started to squeak happily and not seem so panicked anymore.
With James in the lead the strange group of animals started making their way towards the tunnel, leading their way out of the Shrieking Shack. After they all emerged from the tunnel, Sirius automatically bound his way towards the Forbidden Forest with Remus chasing after him playfully and James and Peter bringing up the rear. The four animals made their way deep into the forest to begin exploring and playing around with each other. They soon came across a small clearing deep in the forest where they felt that they were far enough away from the castle grounds, just in case somebody decided to go on a late-night adventure.
After a couple hours running around the clearing James decided to lay down on the grass with Peter resting on his shoulder. Sirius continued to run around and playfully nip at Remus' heels with Remus happily running around with his tongue lolling out the side of his mouth. A crack of a branch caused James' ears to immediately perk up and stand up quickly, causing Peter to slide off his shoulder and land on the ground with a thump. The noise also drew the attention of both Sirius and Remus, causing Remus to lose his playfulness and change into hunter mode. Before Remus could lunge towards the sound, Sirius jumped on top of him to try and prevent him from rushing off.
James immediately stiffened his form in case he had to lunge either towards Remus or towards the mysterious figure making their way towards the clearing. A group of bushes towards the front of the clearing started rustling when a beautiful doe appeared, walking cautiously into the clearing. James stared mesmerized at the reddish-brown color or the doe's coat and the shining green eyes that seemed to glimmer in the moonlight. Under the moonlight the doe looked positively radiant causing all three animals to completely freeze in shock.
The first of the group to snap out of their daze was Remus who saw the new addition as a fresh meal. Remus immediately started growling and lunged to attack the doe. Hearing Remus growling caused James to spring into action and cut Remus off by slamming his antlers into his side. Sirius shook himself out of his stupor and sprang in to help James in keeping Remus from attacking. Neither James nor Sirius noticed that during their wrestling the doe moving closer towards their forms, keeping her head low to the ground. During the struggle James noticed, out of the corner of his eye, that the doe was walking towards them. James snorted in order to give her a warning but either the doe didn't hear him or just completely ignored the warning.
As the doe got closer to the pile of wrestling animals, Remus started to calm down and cocked his head questioningly at the strange creature in front of him. The doe lowered her head and slowly moved so as not to startle the werewolf. Remus started to sniff at the mysterious doe, and to the shock of both James and Sirius, he immediately calmed down and started to whimper happily. Hearing this the doe continued to move forward until she was able to nuzzle the side of the happily whimpering werewolf's face. In shock both James and Sirius slowly moved away from Remus, letting up on the weight they were using in order to keep him subdued. Remus quickly jumped up and started playfully running around the doe, trying to get her to play with him. The doe seemed to understand and began running after Remus, leaving the other three animals staring in confusion at the two of them.
James, Sirius and Peter quietly lounged around the clearing watching Remus and the doe continuously run and jump around each other. It seemed that Remus couldn't get enough of the energetic doe and didn't even bother to take a glance in the direction of his three friends. If James could laugh, he would be in hysterics, rolling around on the ground, at the sight that the two new friends made. James had never seen anything like it before in his life. Remus resembled a puppy with a new playmate and James couldn't help but feel grateful to the mysterious animal.
Looking up at the sky James noticed that the moon had moved in the sky and that they needed to get back to the Shrieking Shack in order to not raise suspicion when Madam Pomfrey came to collect Remus in the morning.
Carefully standing up James gave a loud snort to draw the attention of the two animals playing. The sound also caused Sirius and Peter to perk up and wonder why James was getting up. James nudged his head towards the sky causing Sirius to look up. Noticing the placement of the moon Sirius shook out his fur and moved towards Remus to start nudging him back towards the Shrieking Shack.
Noticing that their time was over, the doe turned towards Remus and went to helping Sirius start to move the werewolf out of the clearing. Remus got the hint and started to sadly follow the other animals out of the clearing and towards the end of the Forbidden Forest. It didn't take the group long to reach the edges of the trees, allowing the Whomping Willow to come into view.
The group of Marauders started to make their way towards the Whomping Willow, except for James. James turned around to look back at the doe that was still standing within the confines of the forest. Very slightly, so slight that James thought he missed it, the doe nodded her head in recognition and then moved back into the forest disappearing.
James cocked his head to the side in confusion, thinking that there was no way that was a regular doe that joined them in their adventure. Unfortunately, James did not have much time to dwell on the issue as he could hear Sirius barking in the distance, letting him know that they needed to move quickly. Turning his back on the forest James made his way over to the Whomping Willow to help both Sirius and Peter move Remus back into the Shrieking Shack.
Once James joined them Peter snuck under the thrashing limbs, pressing the knot that immediately froze the tree. James and Sirius started to nudge Remus through the tunnel and back into the bedroom that was located upstairs. Upon entering the room Remus collapsed due to the exhaustion that was felt after multiple hours of exertion. When they realized that Remus no lingered needed their help, they quickly moved back towards the tunnel so that they could escape before Madame Pomfrey arrived.
Safely outside of the tunnel each boy slowly started to transform back into their human forms. Before James could even say a word, Sirius opened his mouth.
"James!"
James looked at Sirius in confusion he didn't understand why he was yelling at him when he was standing pretty close by.
"James!"
"James!"
"James! WAKE UP!"
Startled, James blearily opened his eyes and looked around in confusion. Slowly, he started to realize that he was not outside on Hogwarts grounds, but rather at a desk in his History of Magic class. Rubbing the sleep out of his eyes he looked over at Sirius who was seated next to him. Sirius looked at him with amusement.
"That must've been some dream you were having. You kept mumbling and moving your head back and forth." There was clear amusement in Sirius' voice as he started to pack up his materials. Remus and Peter already waiting at the door for them.
James shook the drowsiness out and followed Sirius towards the door, slinging his bag over his shoulder. "Actually, it was strangely about the first time we ever transformed for the full moon." James whispered the last part; in case anybody was able to hear.
Remus looked at him thoughtfully for a moment before a look of understanding came over. "It's about our mysterious friend isn't it?" James nodded his head at Remus' question.
"I just can't help but wonder who this person is. We already agreed last year that there's absolutely no way she's a regular deer, so she has to be somebody within the castle who also became an animagus." Frustration clear in his voice, James ran his hand down his face as the group started making their way down the corridor towards their next class.
Sirius got a thoughtful look on his face. "I don't know why you're so worried, frankly I'm excited to see if they join us again this year. Besides, Moony seems to enjoy her presence every time she shows up." Sirius cheekily winked at Remus. Remus rolled his eyes at Sirius' statement.
"I'm going to ignore the fact that you're insinuating I have a crush on a deer." Sirius swung his arm around his shoulder. "Ah, Moony don't be so glum. I'm sure once we find out who this mysterious friend of ours is, she may actually be willing to date someone with an ugly mug such as yours." Sirius immediately ducked at the hand that went to swat at his head.
James looked on in amusement at his friend's interaction while Peter looked on in awe. Letting out a laugh James let them know what was on his mind. "Well I for one am determined to find out just who this lovely lady is and that is something I can promise you boys." With that said the four boys continued on their way down the corridor.
