Kagome looked curiously at the door, her hand reached out and she opened it. Her eyes closing at the bright light of the sun before she stepped out and carefully opened them up again. Sighing, she didn't even see anyone. "Don't tell me I came all this way for nothing."
"Not quite,"
Kagome jumped, walking around to the other side of the roof, she frowned as she came across a girl leaning against the overlook on the rooftop. Her eyes stared out at the tennis courts and she smiled as a soft sigh swept past her lips. "You called me out here?" One of the girls who's been harassing her not long ago.
"I did!" She turned a wide grin to Kagome and laughed playfully, "I'd like to fight you. A fair match between two girls,"
'She doesn't look like she's all that strong, but again, I don't know the first thing about fighting.' Kagome sighed, "it won't be much of a challenge."
"...really..." the girls smile slowly slipped away and her eyes narrowed. Walking forward, she only stopped when she was a foot from Kagome. Having to look up at her, she glared distastefully at the her. "I'd like to find out the hard way then, since you think I'd be a waste of your time, you won't mind if I go first!"
'What!?' Kagome stumbled over her feet as the girl rushed her, fist flying. Kagome's eyes widened as she struck the brick wall hard, a line climbing down from where a crack formed. "I think you misunderstood! I really―"
"SHUT UP!" A foot came down.
Kagome rolled out of the way, she twisted to avoid another punch, and ducked as the girl spun and tried to take her head off her shoulders with a hook kick. 'She's nuts!' She reached out suddenly and her hand caught the girl wrist, but she failed to catch the other hand as it came down on her uniform and pulled hard. She heard the sound of fabric tearing and felt the popping of her shirts top button. Even saw it as it flew forward and struck the girl in the eye. Kagome didn't waste a second. Bringing her knee forward as the girl brought her hand up to her eye. Her knee struck her hard in the gut and the girl doubled over. Kagome fell away from the girl and crawled backwards as she angrily stalked forward with one eye shut and one hand on her stomach.
"Damn it...you lucky bitch! I won't let you get away with insulting Gakuto-Senpai, and then going around acting like you and he are best friends! No way...IN HELL!"
She brought a tightly clenched fist down and Kagome closed her eyes tightly, but the hit never came. She glanced up uncertainly, her eyes widened. "G-Gakuto-San..."
He tightened his hold on the fist of the girl in front of him, his cold eyes moved from her to Kagome. "I thought you said you were going to the Library, liar." He glared at Kagome, "get it through your thick head, stupid, I don't want to see you get hurt!"
Kagome frowned, "you don't know anything about me, so why does it matter?"
"I―I don't know why it matters so much to me, but since you won't leave my head, I have no choice but to stand by your side and protect you from psycho's like this!" He tossed the hand aside, the smaller girl crumbled weakly to the roofs ground, and he passed her before kneeling in front of Kagome. "What were you going to do? You don't know how to fight, right?!"
Kagome smiled, "true, but I didn't want anyone else to be hurt on account of something I've done."
Gakuto was steaming, turning to face the small girl with short brown hair, her eyes shaking fearfully, and her cheeks flushed in embarrassment. "You, stay the hell away from her!" Grabbing Kagome, he stormed past the girl who stayed shaking on the ground. Kagome glanced back and frowned as she watched tears fall lightly to the stone rooftop before she was pulled around the corner and back inside. Gakuto said nothing. The entire time, he pulled her silently down the stairs and out to the tennis courts. She watched him curiously, her eyes bouncing back and forth between his hand on her wrist and his overshadowed eyes. "Gakuto-San,"
"Hm?"
"Gomen,"
He paused just before the gates of the tennis court, "...I don't know what's wrong with me. However, when Oshitari-Kun said you guys had no test, when I realized that you'd gone to the roof, I was really scared." He looked back at her, his eyes were shaking as he locked his eyes with hers.
Kagome smiled and moved in a bit closer to him, her free hand lifting to his cheek as she did. "Gakuto-San is a good friend, I'm sorry that I caused you to worry."

'A good friend,' he smiled, "damn right your sorry." Laughing as he turned away and continued to walk her inside towards the benches where he finally let her go. 'That's right. I hardly know her; how could I be anything other than a friend. Even that is pushing it, isn't it?'
"Gakuto-San, if you are back, go practice doubles with Oshitari-San against Ootori-San and Shishido-San."
"Mm, hai~!" He let Kagome go and ran off. 'I'm glad she's okay, but why the hell does it bother me...when she says I'm a "good friend"?! Isn't that good? I like her, she's a good girl. She's a good friend...a good...friend.'

Kagome's eyes trailed over the red outline of a hand on her wrist. A shadow came up to her and she looked up, smiling at the Hyotei King as he looked curiously over the mark on her wrist. "Atobe-San, sorry about causing trouble for Gakuto-San."
"Isn't it us that should apologize to you?" He smiled charmingly at her s he sat beside her at an angle, taking in her messy hair, scuffed knees and torn shirt. "What was Gakuto-San thinking, dragging you here when you look like this." He shrugged his Regulars jacket off and draped it over her head, smiling at the look on her face before he stood and walked away.
The look on her face.
Tears falling from her eyes as she brought her knees into her chest and bowed her head, burying herself in the warmth of the jacket. She let herself fade from existence as she cried. Thankful that beneath the jacket, no one could see her tears.
