Hi guys!
I've been soo bored thee last couple of days and am overjoyed that I have finally found inspiration to write something.
This is my first Percy and Annabeth fic, as well as my first Au. So please enjoy!
On with the show...
When Annabeth got her acceptance letter, she was already dreading it. Despite her dad's constant, "I'm so proud of you, "s and, "You'll do great!"s. Of course, she knew that by applying there was some, though very slim, chance of being accepted.
Princeton is your dream, she told herself, you've been working towards this since the third-grade, for heaven's sake! She had not, however, been expecting there to be a little over 10,000 fellow students. Yet, she faked excitement. Pretended that she didn't have a severe fear of crowds, that the very idea of how crowded those halls would be didn't positively terrify her, and packed her trunk for Princeton.
The car ride was awkward and tense, with her father barely able to contain his excitement that his daughter had made it into a prestigious academy for the gifted, and her wanting to talk about anything except for school. It wasn't that she wasn't completely overjoyed to have been accepted, it was just that she had never been exactly popular in any of her other schools, she could safely say that she had never had a real friend and stopped even trying. Sometimes she could still feel the injuries inflicted on her from various bullies throughout the years. Still feel rocks being thrown, and insults chanted behind her back. Freak. Nerd. Lad rat. Teachers' pet.
Walking in, Annabeth tried to ignore the packs of students scattered everywhere, in groups, shrouded by shadows, whispering and giggling. Inhabitants aside, the grounds were gorgeous. Large oak trees were speckled everywhere, casting shadows over well-kept flowerbeds, and the sun shown brightly overhead. Illuminating the large golden statue in the center. It was of the school mascot, a goat named Itsy. It looked a lot more impressive than it sounds.
In the middle was a painted image of parchment and a quill. She stopped walking as she reached the center, admiring the intricate design of the quill.
"Oh no!" someone shouted from nearby, "she stepped on the crest!"
Annabeth stood frozen as people stopped to look at her. Ten seconds passed, 20, then 30 before everyone took a collective groan of disappointment and wandered off again.
WHAT was that she questioned, anxious and perplexed. Finally opting to just try and swallow down her mounting panic and keep walking, she strode ever closer to the school.
Out of the corner of her gaze, she could just make out a person strolling over to her. Her first reaction was panic, but she tried to contain it. New place, new people, right?
The stranger had choppy brown hair that had various things braided into it, like beads and feathers, and as she drew closer Annabeth could just make out a pair of wide eyes that couldn't seem to decide what color they wanted to be. Her own slate grey eyes all of a sudden seemed boring.
"Hello!" the mysterious person said warmly, finally arriving at where Annabeth was standing.
"Uh, hi," she said hesitantly.
"I'm Piper," the girl, Piper, said and grabbed her arm, "and we're friends now." Annabeth was taken aback, never before had someone been so friendly to her. Was this normal? She allowed herself to be dragged away by her 'new friend', whether or not out of pure alarm or an eagerness to finally have a friend, she wasn't sure.
Piper dragged her all the way to the front desk, not that she had much choice. Even if she had been against going with Piper, there was absolutely no possible escape. That lady was strong! If not for the friendly smile, Annabeth might have thought she was being kidnapped rather than being pressed into a forced friendship she really didn't mind at all.
The office lady looked nice enough. Her hair was in a tight top knot on the back of her neck, and she was wearing an ugly pea-green cardigan, but other than that she had a welcoming smile. She stood beside Piper in line, still not entirely sure what was going on.
"Piper, dear," the receptionist greeted Piper warmly, "I was wondering when I would see you here. Especially because of your parents." Piper's expression turned momentarily sour at the mention of her parents.
"Well, Miss Flowers; I FOUND A ROOMMATE!" she practically screamed to the whole lobby before grabbing Annabeth's shoulders and jumping up and down. Everyone was staring at them, and she tried to shrink herself but Piper had failed to notice how uncomfortable people made her and proceeded to grab their dorm keys.
"Uhh, Piper?," she asked shyly, "Do you think we could go see our room now?" The stares were starting to feel laser eyes penetrating her skin, and Piper looked at her a little startled.
"What?" she said, unable to hide the irritation in her voice. She just wanted to get out of this stupid room!
Piper started laughing hysterically, causing even more people to divert their attention to them.
"Do you realize this is the first time you've spoken to me except for except for like five words?" While hilarious, Annabeth wanted nothing else to do do with it, it was her turn to grab the still laughing Piper and drag her to the elevator. She ripped the room card and key from Piper.
Room 187
Floor 5
P. McLean & A. Chase
When the elevator opened she immediately resumed heaving Piper through the halls, expertly skirting around crowds and other prying eyes. Finally, the gold plague that read 187 came into view and Annabeth opened the door and tugged her friend inside.
"Sorry," she said panting, "I don't like people much." Piper laughed, "Obviously." before falling silent to observe their surroundings.
The room was simply furnished with only a bed, a dresser, and a desk for each of them. There was a small bathroom and television also, and it was obvious they had gotten one of the better rooms. The girls shared a grin; the space may have seemed plain then, but it wouldn't stay that way for long. Not when they were done with it.
Time went by like a fairy tale. Annabeth couldn't help the elated feeling she got while living with Piper. To have someone who cared for you as a part sister, part mother, and part moody toddler was a new experience. And she couldn't help but feel like her this was the beginning of her very own, happily ever after.
That was our introduction to Annabeth, what did you think? Next, will be an intro to Percy so stay tuned!
